The Chinese Huazhao Festival, or Festival of Flowers, is generally held around the 15th day of lunar February, which is the birthday of the Flower Goddess in Chinese culture.
In recent years, hanfu has become popular in China. Many hanfu lovers wear this traditional clothing of the Chinese Han people to take part in the Huazhao Festival celebrations.
They join in cultural, artistic and entertaining activities. They meet in spring in a romantic way and bring back this forgotten traditional festival.
During the Huazhao Festival, people worship the flower god and pray for its blessing in keeping flowers and plants thriving(茁壮成长). Young women cut colorful paper and paste it on flower branches as decorations. People also go out to enjoy flowers and have picnics, write poems and paint. In some places, there are additional customs such as reciting flower orders, releasing sky lanterns for the Flower Goddess, and making flower cakes. ▲
However, at some point, this festival, which has been recorded since the Spring and Autumn Period(770 BC - 476 BC), slowly disappeared and became unknown. Many people can only learn a little about it from textbooks.
