外刊精读,
a way he likely never anticipated:as an animated character reviewing the very stories he once
wrote-the central plot of the new summer blockbuster Curious Tales of a Temple.
Trapped in an ancient temple well with a frog and a turtle,he judges their tale rivalry().
As the two rivals each tell two stories,Pu rediscovers his passion and narrates the fifth himself.
Interestingly, all five short stories were originally written by Pu in his classic Liaozhai Zhiyi in the
real world beyond the screen.
Among the overall 491 tales in Liaozhai Zhiyi, most are,at their core, profound explorations
of human struggle. These stories reveal the suffering of the common people, echoing Pu's deep
compassion for those yearning for love and dignity.
When the makers first started working on the project, they wanted to stay really true to the
original stories. They chose an anthology format.Spanning multiple dynasties, from Jin to Song,
and even reaching into modern times, the film uses various animation techniques to reflect each
era's mood and style.
As the film continues to gain popularity in domestic theaters, like most of previous works,
Curious Tales of a Temple is set for international release.Dubbed versions are currently being
negotiated for several markets, including Southeast Asia and North America.Reflecting the
maturity and growth of the Chinese film industry, the film has also scheduled to produce a range of
merchandise.Plans are also underway to collaborate with tourist destinations-such as Zibo in
Shandong Province, the hometown of novelist Pu Songling-to promote local tourism through the
film.

B.To show features of different eras.
C.To keep adaptations to a minimum.

C.It was inspired by the hometown of novelist.D.Each story of the film has a different purpose.
4.What is the most suitable title for the text?
A.Curious Tale of Pu's Return
B.Animation Art of Pu's Tales

For something designed to streamline communication, corporate jargon()often does the
opposite-leaving many employees confused and excluded.
A survey of more than 8,000 working professionals across eight countries found that 58 per
cent feel their fellow employees overuse jargon. If given the opportunity, nearly half of them would
remove its usage since interpretingtheir meanings "causes stress and slows down productivity".
Yet,we keep using it.Then why does it continue to exist?
"Language isn't just about sharing information. It's social, said Daria Bahtina,a lecturer.
"When we speak,we're performing relationships,identities,and positions,"she explained.This
isn't limited to managers or corporate departments.Specialized language pops up wherever people
gather, for example,in a team of software engineers,or even a neighbourhood book club after
their third bottle of wine.
In addition, jargon is a means of exclusiveness."Shared jargon can develop a sense of identity
and community, said Eric Anicich,a professor.According to his findings, office jargon is
employed to draw invisible lines between insiders and outsiders.Lower-status individuals are more
likely to use jargon in evaluative situations-not to clarify their message but to signal intelligence
and competence.
So,where do we go from here? When asked about his position on jargon,Anicich replied,
"Jargon is used as a tool-it's not naturally good nor bad,so it depends on how and when you
use it..”
Jargon is indeed integrated into daily life.Bahtina notes that medical drama fans, though not in
hospitals, understand "code blue",showing jargon can spread beyond its origin into everyday speech.
Rather than going to extremes,it's best to question whether jargon is being used
appropriately. If our vocabulary is building walls instead of bridges,it's time to circle back and
rethink how we speak at work.
⑨

B.They think it is used too often.

A.A friend in the national park.
B.An employer on vacation.
C.A customer over the phone.
D.An applicant in an interview.
3.What is Eric Anicich's attitude towards jargon?
A.Appreciative.B.Unprejudiced.
C.Disapproving.
D.Indefinite.
4.What is a suitable title for the text?
A.Jargon:Hated but Used
B.Applying Jargon,Raising Doubt
C.Jargon:a Universal Device
D.Using Jargon,Building Bridges
