P37 History is one of those subjects that could be endless if we had enough time. There has always been an understanding that we learn history to stop it from being repeated,in a sense learning from past mistakes. However,as we have discovered, this is not entirely true. With the invasive()and violent events still in existence in many parts of the world,we can see that humanity has not learnt from its past.History shows itself to repeat and it is important to learn history to see these chaotic repetitions.History is not just about strife-fights,revolutions,and struggles-but it is also a political and philosophical topic. A man named Peter Turchin has spent many years investigating how we can use history to our own benefit. In 2003,Turchin published his book Historical Dynamics. The book demonstrates his workings in which he shows the secular()state of France and Russia from their origins to the 18th century. Not long after his book was published,Turchin founded cliodynamics.Cliodynamics works to show the underlying patterns we can observe in history and model them in a way to make scientific estimates of how the future may play out.His use of mathematics has allowed scientists to develop a greater understanding of how political settings may occur or how societies will grow. Of course,it is simply impossible for any historian to predict the future, but by using this "big data"approach,Turchin has allowed individuals to locate patterns and use critical thinking to help make judgments about what the future may hold.Turchin as well as many others has used history in an important way to help future generations. As time passes, the databases will improve, highlighting more patterns and similarities, unavoidably helping to make these predictions more reliable.Could this approach to using data be the future of history and would we as a society be able to show the repetitions in humanity? ⑨ 1.What does the underlined word "strife"in Paragraph 2 mean? A.Reflection. B.Conclusion. C.Account. D.Conflict. 2.What can be inferred from Turchin's research? A.It intends to reveal state origins. B.It jumps out of historical cycles. C.It confirms history's mirror values. D.It shows the significance of maths. 3.How does Turchin's approach benefit historians? A.By providing first-hand data. B.By helping predict future trends. C.By ensuring precise future predictions. D.By fueling insights into certain events. 4.What is the author's attitude toward predicting the future? A.Favorable. B.Objective. C.Unconcerned. D.Opposed. P37 The digital divide means some people have the Internet and technology, while others don't.In the UK,8 million people don't use the Internet.1 As more things like banking and shopping go online, this gap makes inequality worse. The Internet can help a lot.It can give cheaper things and better services to people in the countryside or those who need help.2 Therefore, they don't know how to use technology or feel scared of it.Libraries and community classes help a little, but not enough. 3 Young people can teach older or excluded people basic tech skills.Hospitals and clinics are good places to start because many people who lack Internet access go there for health reasons. For example, showing someone how to call family online or get their pension can make them more confident. This helps in two ways.4 When young and old share knowledge, communities become stronger.Testing such programs in areas with poor Internet first, focusing on simple uses like staying in touch or getting services, can show how useful the Internet is. Fixing the digital divide is about making sure everyone belongs.By teaching tech skills with kindness and community support,we can help everyone join the digital world.5 A.However, many of them stay offline. B.A good solution is volunteering across generations. C.Most of them are poor, old,or have health problems. D.They could be unaware of the benefits of the Internet. E.The aim is a society where technology unites, not divides. F.It bridges the digital gap and brings different generations together. G.The Internet has the potential to bring about positive changes to people's lives. 2. 5. 140英语·0黑白题高一下city Houston)usually call it yoos-TON,not the English HYOO-ston.” 4.A 根据上文“Cantonese and Italian, for instance, are 'syllable-timed':every syllable has roughly similar duration." 和下文“It means that stressed syllables occur on a regular basis.”可知,此处对比英语的节奏类型。选项A“英语是‘重音 节拍'语言。”点明英语节奏特点,与前文“音节节拍”形成对 比,且“重音节拍”对应下文“重读音节规律出现”。故选A。 5.B根据上文“English-speaking tourists sometimes find themselves speaking English with a strange mixed accent..”以及 下文“But as with drumming or dancing,a little clear teaching never hurts.” 尔词类激活 行为类 ①看:watch/.see ②冲:rush/dash/run at full speed ③尽力:try one's best/,do one's best/do everything in one's power 情绪类 ①巨大的压力:enormous pressure/,huge pressure ②越来越沮丧:increasingly frustrated/more and more frustrated 窘迫的:embarrassed/,abashed 口参考范文 Paragraph 1: Together,we jogged to the starting line.We had a quick warm-up before the race. When the race started,I felt enormous pressure on my shoulders.I was increasingly frustrated as I watched more and more runners rush past me.I tried my best, but I was still the slowest on the team.I thought they may be running to the final line now.It was a tiring course. Finally,I stopped running and struggled to walk up the last challenging hill.Just then,I heard people calling my name from the top of the hill. Paragraph 2: Surprisingly,my coach and teammates were smiling and cheering for me.I was confused and embarrassed because my performance was terrible.Anyway,I stopped caring about my performance and ran to the final point with all my might. As I was jogging up the last section of the hill,my coach and teammates all applauded me for my efforts. Not until then did I realize my coach and teammates
