W: Hello, I’m Sally. I am a nurse and I work at the
hospital of our town, but I have always been interested in art
and history. When I was a young child, my dream was to
work in an art museum. My dream came true last month. I
found a part-time job in the museum of the town. I work for
two hours there every week. My job is to welcome the visitors.
Last week, there was an activity called Talking Tables. Visitors sat around the table and asked questions about the objects in the museum. I was there to answer their questions. I learnt a lot from the activity. I love my part-time job. It makes me feel excited.

Many students in our class like visiting the Internet very
much, but we don’t play computer games often. We just want
to find useful information we need. For example, Mike is
interested in science, he always spends time online enjoying
the photos of animals and plants from all over the world. Paul’s
hobby is collecting stamps so he likes chatting with his friends
to share his collection with them. As for me I like travelling.
When I am free I’d like to find out the places of interest in
different countries. I think the Internet is useful and helps us a lot in many ways. What do you often do on the Internet? Would you like to send me an email and tell me about it? I’m Leo and my email address is Leo1996@qq.com.

Yang Kexin comes from Guizhou Province. She really loves
meteorites(陨石).
Yang became interested in meteorites when she was young.
Once, she saw a photo of a meteorite. Her friend found the
meteorite in Xinjiang. Yang got inspired and in 2012 she left her
job in Beijing and started to work in Hami, Xinjiang. There she
spent most of her free time looking for meteorites. However, it
was not easy. Luckily, Yang found a small meteorite on one trip. She jumped up and down and shouted, “I found a meteorite!” And the finding made her decide to look for more meteorites.

Yang spent five years in Hami and found more than 600
meteorites. These meteorites were valuable. Someone wanted to
buy them at a high price, but Yang said no. She never thought of making money from them.
In 2017, Yang went back to Guizhou Province and started a
museum showing her meteorites. “I spent more than 300,000
yuan opening this museum. Because I didn’t have enough
money, I borrowed some,” she said. So it came as a surprise
when she decided to open the museum to people for free. She
thinks it’s a good way to help more people learn about meteorites.
Yang enjoys her life because she is doing something she’s

A hobby is something fun you do in your free time, but not
all hobbies are good for your health and happiness.
When choosing how to spend your time, think about how
you feel afterward. Some people say scrolling through social media or watching shows is their hobby, but often they feel tired or empty after that. These activities may seem fun at first, but they can make you feel worse later. Dr Hafeez calls this “popcorn brain”—jumping from app to app, always looking for something new. This habit can be bad for your brain in the long run and make it hard to stop.

Dr Kaiser says another problem with screen-based hobbies is
that they usually keep you sitting for a long time, which can cause health problems over time.
So how do you pick a better hobby? Dr Vuu suggests thinking about seven parts of a healthy life: sleep, food, movement, feelings, thoughts, relationships, and purposes(目的). A good hobby can help with some of these. For example, doing group activities like yoga or running can help you move more, feel happy and make new friends. Helping others, like teaching or gardening, can make you feel useful and improve your mood.

There’s no right number of hobbies to have. Some people
focus on one, others enjoy many. The key is to try new things
from time to time. New experiences are good for your brain—and
they help you connect with others too.

I remember lying on the grass and counting stars with my
parents when I was a child. My life was full of fun then. However, children today are busy with schoolwork or screens. In fact, there are many cool new hobbies for them to see the outside world.
Geocaching is a popular treasure-searching game. The
“treasure” is usually a box with a notebook and gifts. You can
find the box in a park or other outdoor places. Just open the
Geocaching app, choose a “treasure” near you, and then the app will offer a puzzle(谜) to help you find it.

Bird watching is also a great activity. You just need
binoculars(双筒望远镜) and a guidebook. Then you can be a bird
-watcher and head into nature to watch wild birds. As you watch them with your guidebook, you’ll get to know their names, looks and habits. Remember to move slowly, stay quiet, and protect the birds’ space for the best experience.

These hobbies are so special that they benefit you in different ways. When you search for “treasures” through geocaching, you’re not just walking around—you’re solving real-world problems with GPS and discovering hidden places. Bird watching provides you with a chance to learn about different birds and their homes, and help with scientific research. As well as helping you see nature differently, the two hobbies make you learn new skills and grow as a person!
Why not stay away from screens and give one of these unusual hobbies a try? They might become your new favourite source of happiness.

One day, Grandpa’s friends came to see his old coins. When he went to get his coins, he could not find any of them. He was very worried and asked Timmy’s parents for help. They looked everywhere but didn’t find the coins. Finally, he thought of asking Timmy.
“I have lost my old coins, Timmy. Do you know where
they are?” asked Grandpa.

“Oh yes, Grandpa. Our neighbour has got them. When
you were out this morning, he came. He said he could change old coins for new ones. The coins looked very old and dirty, so I
gave them to him. Here are the new coins he gave me. Don’t they
look nice?” said Timmy. “He said he would come again and
exchange some more coins.”
Timmy’s grandpa asked Timmy what the neighbour looked
like, but they didn’t have any neighbours that matched Timmy’s

Art is colourful and full of power.
My favourite art form
is calligraphy. Last year when I felt stressed about exams, my
teacher suggested I try calligraphy to relax.
At first, my hand shook while holding the brush. But as I
practised single strokes, my characters got better and better.
This made me happy. I came to realize that like calligraphy,
life needs us to take time and never give up.
