Lesson Plan 4: Pronunciation & Integration
Textbook Reference: 7B Unit 4, Pages 49-50
I. Teaching Objectives
Language Ability: Identify and produce sentence stress to convey meaning; extract specific details (materials, shapes, events) from listening texts.
Thinking Quality: Predict content based on notes; analyze how stress changes the focus of a sentence.
Learning Ability: Apply listening strategies: Prediction, Keyword Note-taking.
II. Key & Difficult Points
Key: Stressing content words (nouns, verbs, adjectives); capturing numbers and proper nouns in listening.
Difficult: Understanding how stress alters meaning (contrastive stress); keeping up with note-taking speed.
III. Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Pronunciation
Concept: "English is like music. Some notes are loud (stress), some are soft."
Activity (Part B): Compare
Sentence: "I want to buy some PAPER at the craft shop." (Not pens).
Sentence: "I want to buy some paper at the CRAFT shop." (Not the supermarket).
Drill: Teacher says a sentence with weird stress; students guess the implied meaning.
Step 2: Listening Prep
Strategy 1: Prediction
Look at the notes for the Kite audio ( Part B).
Clue: "Materials: Wood, bamboo, (1)___ and silk."
Ask: "What material starts with 'p' and is light?" - Predict: Paper.
Strategy 2: Note taking
Teach abbreviations: because → bec, festival → fest, government → gov.
Teach Number capture: Write digits immediately (e.g., "April" → 4).
Tip: Capture the keywords.
Step 3: While-Listening
Task 1: Part A
First time: Focus on the difference between Left and Right.
Second time: Check specific details. "What are they made from?" (Black clay).
Task 2: Part B
Execution: Students use their "Note taking" skills to fill the fact file.
Focus: Listen for shapes (birds, planes), location (Weifang), and time (April).
Peer Check: Compare notes. Did you catch the number? Did you spell "bamboo" correctly?
Step 4: Speaking
Context: Textbook Part C & D.
Scaffolding:
Expressing Opinion: "I believe that..." / "From my perspective..."
Agreeing/Disagreeing: "I agree with Daniel because..." / "However, Sandy thinks..."
Describing Value: "It represents..." / "It shows the wisdom of..."
Activity: Use the model to start a dialogue.
Step 5: Summary & Homework
Homework: Record yourself reading the conversation in Part A (Pronunciation) focusing on stress.
