Textbook Reference: 7B Unit 4, Pages 42-43
I. Teaching Objectives

Cultural Awareness: Students recognize specific Chinese folk arts and express pride in local heritage.
Thinking Quality: Students can classify crafts by material and function, and predict information based on visual cues.

II. Key & Difficult Points
Key: Vocabulary related to materials and tools; the dialogue model for discussing preferences.
Difficult: Articulating why a craft is valuable beyond just "it's pretty" (moving to cultural meaning).
III. Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Lead-in
Activity: Show a box containing realia or high-quality photos: a red lantern, a pair of scissors, a lump of clay, a wooden carving tool.
Problem Chain:
Q1: "Touch/Look at these items. What do they have in common?" (Guide: They are all used to make things by hand).
Q2: "In the age of machines, why do people still make things by hand?" (Elicit: Love, tradition, unique).
Q3: "What do we call these special handmade items?" -> Introduce "Folk Art / Traditional Crafts".
Step 2: Presentation
Context: Sandy is preparing for the "Folk Art Week."
Task: Listen to Part A and complete the fact files.
Scaffolding: Before listening, pre-teach zisha, woodcarving, clay.
Deep Dive:
Q4: "The book says lanterns are made of wood, bamboo, silk, or paper. Can you think of a modern material used for lanterns today?" (Plastic, LED lights).
Q5: "Why does woodcarving take 'hours or even days'?" (Discuss the concept of patience and craftsmanship spirit).
Step 3: Practice
Model: Analyze the Sandy & Millie dialogue (Part B).
Structure: Preference - Reason - Specific Detail.
Teacher Input: "In my hometown, we have Sugar Painting. It’s made of melted sugar. It tastes sweet and looks like a dragon."
Task: In pairs, choose one craft from your hometown (or China) not in the book (e.g., Kites, Embroidery, Fan making).
Sentence Frame: "I love ______ because it looks ______. It is often seen during ______. It needs_______."
Sharing: Select 2-3 pairs to present.
Step 4: Summary & Homework
Summary: Review the value of crafts: Beauty + Meaning + Spirit.
Homework: Search online for one fact about "Weifang Kites" or "Su Embroidery" and write 2 sentences. Prepare a photo or drawing for the next class.
