Many of us like to scroll (滑动屏幕) through short videos or chat on phones right before going to bed. However, this small habit can mess up our sleep quality really badly, said Sarah Jenkins, a sleep expert from the Sleep Research Center in Boston, US.
A good sleep has three key parts: light sleep, deep sleep and REM sleep. At first, we enter light sleep. Our brain slows down, and our muscles start to relax. We can wake up easily at this time, and it usually lasts 20 to 30 minutes. Next comes deep sleep—the most important part of the whole sleep. Our blood pressure goes down, and our body fixes damaged cells and makes our immune (免疫的) system stronger. If we are woken up during deep sleep, we will feel tired and sleepy all day long.
The last part is REM sleep. It happens several times a night, and the time gets longer in the early morning. Our brain is as active as when we are awake, and that’s when we have most of our clear dreams. REM sleep helps us sort out and remember what we learned during the day.
The blue light from phone screens is the main bad guy here. This light stops our body from making melatonin (褪黑激素), a hormone (激素) that helps us fall asleep. When there’s less melatonin, our brain thinks it’s still daytime, so we can’t fall asleep quickly. Even if we do fall asleep, our deep sleep and REM sleep won’t be good enough.
So, we should break the habit of using phones before bed. Experts advise us to put away all electronic devices at least one hour before sleep. Instead, we can read a paper book, listen to soft music or do some gentle stretches (伸展). These things can help our body and mind get ready for a nice sleep.
8. What does the underlined word this mean?
A. Scrolling through short videos before bed.
B. Chatting on phones right before sleeping.
C. The habit of using phones before going to bed.
9. All of the following happen during deep sleep EXCEPT ______.
A. we will feel tired and sleepy all day long
B our blood pressure goes down
C. our body fixes damaged cells and makes our immune (免疫的) system stronger
10. What’s the main purpose of paragraph 4?
A. To give advice. B. To show problems. C. To explain reasons.
11 Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A. REM sleep happens only one time a night.
B. We’d better not use our phones at least one hour before sleep.
C. The blue light is good for our sleep.

Every season has its own special beauty, and the names of the four seasons have interesting backstories, too. Let’s find out where these names come from.
Spring was once called Lent in Old English. In the 14th century, people started calling this time of year “springing time” because plants were pushing up from the ground. The name was shortened to spring-time in the 15th century, and by the 16th century, people just called it spring.
Summer comes from an old English word, sumor. This word first came from the Proto-Germanic word sumur-, which itself came from the Proto-Indo-European root sam-. Sam- is a form of the word sem-, which means “together/one”.
No one is completely sure where the word fall comes from, but most people think it’s because leaves fall off trees in this season. It first started being used as a season name in England in the late 1600s and became very common in the 1700s. After that, it was used in North America too. Before fall and autumn were used, people called this season harvest. The word autumn came into English from the Old French word autompne, which came from the Latin word autumnus.
Winter comes from the Proto-Germanic word wintruz. This word may have come from the Proto-Indo-European word wed (meaning “wet”) or wend (meaning “white”). 5. People have used the name “winter” for this season for hundreds of years.
The word “season” itself comes from the Old French word saison, which means “sowing/planting”. This word originally came from the Latin word sationem, which also means “sowing”. At first, it meant the act of planting seeds, but later it came to mean the time of year when you plant seeds.

A. we will feel tired and sleepy all day long
B. our blood pressure goes down
C. our body fixes damaged cells and makes our immune (免疫的) system stronger
10. What’s the main purpose of paragraph 4?
A. To give advice. B. To show problems. C. To explain reasons.
11. Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A. REM sleep happens only one time a night.
B. We’d better not use our phones at least one hour before sleep.
C. The blue light is good for our sleep.
【答案】8. C 9. A 10. C 11. B
【解析】
【导语】本文分析了睡前使用手机对睡眠质量的负面影响,详细介绍了睡眠的三个阶段,并解释了屏幕蓝光如何通过抑制褪黑素分泌来干扰生物钟,最后给出了改善睡眠的建议。
【8题详解】
第一段首句列举了睡前的普遍行为:“Many of us like to scroll (滑动屏幕) through short videos or chat on phones right before going to bed. However, this small habit can mess up our sleep quality really badly”,紧接着用“this”来指代这种睡前玩手机的习惯。因此,“this”指代前文的“睡前用手机的习惯”。
【9题详解】
第二段描述了深睡阶段的生理变化:“…blood pressure goes down…body fixes damaged cells…”,而关于感到疲倦,原文指出:“If we are woken up during deep sleep, we will feel tired…”,说明这是被吵醒后的结果,而非深睡本身发生的现象。
【10题详解】
第四段详细阐述了蓝光对大脑的影响:“…light stops our body from making melatonin (褪黑激素)…When there’s less melatonin, our brain thinks it’s still daytime…”,科学地解释了玩手机导致难以入睡的原因。
【11题详解】
文章最后一段明确提到了专家的指导意见:“Experts advise us to put away all electronic devices at least one hour before sleep.”,专家建议睡前至少1小时收起电子设备。

【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,作者通过提出几个关于未来的问题,畅想了未来在学校、交通、科技等方面的生活,最后表达了为了实现梦想需要从现在开始努力的决心。
【16题详解】
句意:我问了自己这些问题很多次,但我仍然对答案一无所知。
根据前文“What will life be like in the future? Will people have robots?”可知,作者在问自己关于未来情况,这些都属于问题,应用questions“问题”。results“结果”,plans“计划”,均不符合语境。
【17题详解】
句意:我们会有更少的家庭作业。
根据空后“If so, we will get lots of time for after-school activities.”
根据前句“Every family will have a small car that can fly in the sky. It will be very cheap…”
根据前句“I will invent (发明) all kinds of interesting and useful things.”与空后“they can help people do many things.”可知,前后两句在语义上是顺承和递进关系,说明发明的东西不仅有用而且能帮人做事,应用And“并且”。Or“或者”,But“但是”,均不符。
【22题详解】
句意:例如,我会发明看起来像人类一样的机器人,它们能帮助人们做很多困难和危险的事情。
根据空前连词“and”可知,所填词与“difficult”感情色彩相似,且根据后文举例“If buildings fall down because of the earthquake (地震)”可知,地震救援属于极其危险的工作,应用dangerous“危险的”。comfortable“舒适的”,wonderful“极好的”,均不符合语境。
【23题详解】
句意:如果建筑物因为地震倒塌,我的机器人会帮助拯救处于困境中的人们。
根据前句“If buildings fall down because of the earthquake (地震)”可知,建筑物因地震倒塌,里面的人应是处于危险或困境之中。固定搭配in trouble“处于困境中”。in shock“处于震惊中”,in use“在使用中”,均不符合救援语境。
【24题详解】
句意:总之,如果我想让我的梦想成真,我现在就必须采取行动。
根据前文作者对未来学校、交通工具以及自己成为科学家的种种美好畅想,这些都属于他的梦想。固定搭配make my dreams come true表示“让我的梦想成真”,应用dreams“梦想”。robots“机器人”,plans“计划”,均不如dreams契合文章的憧憬基调。
【25题详解】
句意:我相信,只要我尽最大努力,我就能实现它。
根据前句“I should keep on learning.”以及空后条件状语从句“I can make it as long as I try my best.”可知,作者坚信只要不断学习并尽最大努力就一定能成功,应用believe“相信”。choose“选择”,enjoy“享受”,均不符合表达决心的语境。

第四部分 综合技能(共两节,满分25分)
第一节 简答和翻译(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,回答问题和翻译句子。
36. What was spring called in Old English at first?
_______________________________________________________
37. Does summer come from an old Latin word, sumor?
_______________________________________________________
38. When did "fall" first become a season name in England?
_______________________________________________________
39. Which season do you like best? Why?
______________________________________________________
40. 把文中划线句子翻译成中文。
______________________________________________________
【答案】36. Lent.
37. No, it doesn’t.
38. In the late 1600s.
39. I like spring best because I can see plants pushing up from the ground.
40. 人们使用“冬天”这个名字来称呼这个季节已经有几百年的历史了。
【解析】
【导语】本文主要介绍了四个季节名称以及“season”一词有趣的历史来源与演变过程,解释了这些词汇是如何从古英语、拉丁语或法语等语言演变而来的。
【36题详解】
第二段首句直接指出“Spring was once called Lent in Old English.”,这明确说明了在古英语中,“春天”最初被称为Lent。
【37题详解】
第三段首句明确提到“Summer comes from an old English word, sumor.”,指出sumor一词源于古英语而非拉丁语。故作否定回答。
【38题详解】
第四段第二句指出了该词在英国开始被使用的具体时间:“It first started being used as a season name in England in the late 1600s…”,直接提取该时间信息即可。
【39题详解】
本题为开放性试题,答案不唯一。可结合文中各季节的特点或含义进行概括,如喜欢春天是因为“plants were pushing up from the ground(植物钻出地面)”,或喜欢秋天是因为“leaves fall off trees(落叶)”。
【40题详解】
划线句“People have used the name ‘winter’ for this season for hundreds of years.”中,“have used”为现在完成时,表示动作持续至今,“for hundreds of years”表示时间长度。故译为:人们使用“冬天”这个名字来称呼这个季节已经有几百年的历史了。
