It all began with a video featuring a professor at a Chinese university. Standing before a classroom filled with eager students, she humorously said, “Princesses, please take your seats.” This video swiftly went viral on social media, sparking a fresh wave of academic discourse known as “princess literature”.
A quick search on social platforms revealed that this term isn’t limited to teachers and students. Even the catering industry and the labor force have adopted it, with cafeterias proudly displaying slogans like “Princesses, please enjoy your meal”, and workers cheerfully saying, “Princesses, let’s get to work.”
For generation Z, who were nurtured (熏陶) on “princess” stories and films such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Frozen, the term “princess” carries profound significance. Traditionally, a princess was seen as self-indulgent and immature, often characterized by the shameful “princess syndrome”. However, many of today’s “princesses” are independent and striving for self-worth.
The popular catchphrase, “Princesses, please xx”, deeply struck a chord with contemporary youth, not only for its humor but also for the emotional value it offered. This phrase serves as a form of self-teasing and as a means of resistance against the internal struggles they face.
Much of recent Chinese Internet slang, including terms like tangping, or “lying flat”, and foxi, or “Buddha-like”, reflects the discouraging attitude of young people who tend to stand idle or remain indifferent when facing challenges. However, “princess literature” introduces a stimulating twist as young individuals choose a positive attitude when meeting various pressures in their lives.
4. What can we learn about the term “princess” from the second paragraph?
A. It brings a lot of pride for its users.
B. It is popular with every generation.
C. It is widely employed in many situations.
D. It is more popular on catering industries.
5. What qualities do many of today’s “princesses” represent?
A. Inactivity and indifference. B. Ambition and consideration.
C. Selfishness and immaturity. D. Independence and self-worth.
6. What contributes to the popularity of the phrase “Princess, please xx” in paragraph 4?
A. Its formal and traditional tone. B. Its humor and emotional value.
C. Its connection to ancient traditions. D. Its privilege to a specific social group.
7. What message does the rising cultural phenomenon in the passage convey?
A. Embracing optimism in difficult times. B. Remaining indifferent to cultural shifts.
C. A focus on competitiveness and ambition. D. A discouraging attitude to challenges.
【答案】4. C 5. D 6. B 7. A

The name itself is straightforward and alarming: the death cap mushroom. Deaths due to death cap mushroom poisoning occur frequently worldwide. Recently, the fungus (真菌) was in the news after three people in Australia died after eating what investigators suspect were death caps.
Originating from the United Kingdom, the death cap mushroom has traveled around the world over the past century, reaching Australia and North America. Since its arrival on the West Coast, this mushroom has rapidly spread throughout California, and it has even been spotted as far north as British Columbia.
Determining the exact moment when this deadly mushroom entered the western United States and why it continues to multiply is extremely challenging, according to Anne Pringle, a mycologist (真菌学家) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The earliest recorded sighting of the mushroom in California dates back to the 1930s. Some researchers suggest that death caps may have arrived in the soil of cork trees transported from Europe to California for use in the wine industry at the time. Others propose that the mushroom might have traveled alongside an unidentified plant imported for campus beautification.
Regardless, what Pringle is certain of is that the fungus likely remained in an inactive state, hidden in the soil of an imported plant. “When they planted that tree in the ground, they also effectively planted the fungus. So, what exactly is the smoking gun, who did it, and when — that’s the thing I think we’ll never truly know,” Pringle says.
Pringle can’t say for sure what makes the state such a friendly habitat for the invasive species, but she does note that the fungus can tolerate different environments throughout Europe, growing as far north as Sweden and as far south as southern France. Since arriving, Pringle says, its geographic extent has grown larger and spread to other states; most recently it appeared in Idaho.
8. Why does the author mention the news in Australia in the first paragraph?
A. To recommend a new recipe involving the death cap mushroom.
B. To illustrate the global impact of the death cap mushroom incidents.
C. To emphasize the popularity of the death cap mushroom in Australia.
D. To remember the three people dying from the death cap mushroom.
9. Which statement about the death cap mushroom in California does Pringle agree with?
A. It came from abroad. B. It is native to California.
C. It grows in a cork tree. D. It remains active in the soil.
10. What can be inferred about the death cap mushroom?
A. It has stopped spreading to other regions.
B. It is highly selective in choosing its habitat.
C. It can only grow in specific environments in Europe.
D. It thrives in various regions and has spread to different states.
11. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. The history of the death cap mushroom.
B. The deadly nature of the death cap mushroom.
C. The nutritional value of the death cap mushroom.
D. The mysterious movement of the death cap mushroom.
【答案】8. B 9. A 10. D 11. D

Just last year, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) declared the migratory (迁徙的) monarch butterfly (帝王蝶) endangered. Recently, the organization decided to lower the subspecies to a lower level on the risk-rating system.
The reason? Models showing this butterfly’s extinction were likely too cautious, and its numbers are falling more slowly than thought, according to the IUCN.
To be clear, most of the large, orange-and-black butterflies known as Danaus plexippus are doing just fine. This is why people in many parts of North America still see the beautiful insects flying about their backyards and gardens.
However, in recent decades scientists have become concerned about the migratory monarch, Danaus plexippus ssp., a subspecies which takes an incredible, 3,000-mile, multi-generational migration each year from breeding grounds in Canada and the United States to wintering grounds in Mexico. According to previous estimates, the eastern population of migratory monarchs has declined by as much as 84 percent between 1996 and 2014. Worse still is the fate of the western migratory monarchs, whose population dropped from around 10 million insects in the 1980s to just 1,914 in 2021 — a loss of about 99.9 percent of the population, according to the IUCN.
Yet other data challenges such severe declines. When Andy Davis, an animal ecologist at the University of Georgia, and his co-authors analysed the data collected during the North American Butterfly Association’s annual citizen science butterfly counts, they found that while the population has fallen in some places, it has also increased in others. And while he takes no issue with the idea that monarch numbers are low at the Mexican wintering grounds, his team’s analysis suggests the subspecies’ relative abundance has actually grown by 1.36 percent each year in their breeding areas.
12. Why did the IUCN lower the risk rank of the migratory monarch?
A. Its numbers don’t decrease as predicted. B. It is thriving in North America.
C Its population has increased rapidly. D. Its previous data were misread.
13. What is the function of the fourth paragraph?
A. To explain the recent research direction on the butterfly.
B. To state the severity of the decline in butterfly numbers.
C. To provide the scientific basis for the IUCN’s previous decision.
D. To illustrate the evidence for the IUCN’s recent decision.
14. What does the underlined phrase “take no issue with” mean in the last paragraph?
A. Be uncertain about something. B. Be indifferent to something.
C. Have no objection to something. D. Disagree with something.
15. What may be Andy Davis’s attitude towards the recent decision of the IUCN?
A. Supportive. B. Neutral. C. Critical. D. Indifferent.
【答案】12. A 13. C 14. C 15. A

根据第二段“Models showing this butterfly’s extinction were likely too cautious, and its numbers are falling more slowly than thought, according to the IUCN.(世界自然保护联盟表示,预测这种蝴蝶灭绝的模型可能过于谨慎,它的数量下降速度比想象的要慢)”可知,世界自然保护联盟降低帝王蝶的风险等级是因为它的数量没有像预测的那样减少。故选A项。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“However, in recent decades scientists have become concerned about the migratory monarch, Danaus plexippus ssp., a subspecies which takes an incredible, 3,000-mile, multi-generational migration each year from breeding grounds in Canada and the United States to wintering grounds in Mexico. According to previous estimates, the eastern population of migratory monarchs has declined by as much as 84 percent between 1996 and 2014. 【14题详解】
词句猜测题。根据最后一段“When Andy Davis, an animal ecologist at the University of Georgia, and his co-authors analysed the data collected during the North American Butterfly Association’s annual citizen science butterfly counts, they found that while the population has fallen in some places, it has also increased in others. And while he takes no issue with the idea that monarch numbers are low at the Mexican wintering grounds, his team’s analysis suggests the subspecies’ relative abundance has actually grown by 1.36 percent each year in their breeding areas.(佐治亚大学动物生态学家安迪・戴维斯(Andy Davis)及其合著者分析了北美蝴蝶协会年度公民科学蝴蝶计数项目收集的数据后发现:虽然部分地区的黑脉金斑蝶数量有所下降,但另一些地区的数量却在上升。尽管他takes no issue with墨西哥越冬地的帝王蝶数量偏低这一观点,但其团队的分析表明,这一亚种在繁殖地的相对丰度实际上每年增长1.36%)”可知,这里指安迪・戴维斯(Andy Davis)不反对墨西哥越冬地的帝王蝶数量偏低这一观点,所以猜测take no issue with的意思是“无异议,不反对某事”。故选C项。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“When Andy Davis, an animal ecologist at the University of Georgia, and his co-authors analysed the data collected during the North American Butterfly Association’s annual citizen science butterfly counts, they found that while the population has fallen in some places, it has also increased in others. (佐治亚大学动物生态学家安迪・戴维斯(Andy Davis)及其合著者分析了北美蝴蝶协会年度公民科学蝴蝶计数项目收集的数据后发现:虽然部分地区的黑脉金斑蝶数量有所下降,但另一些地区的数量却在上升)”可知,他的研究结论支持世界自然保护联盟降低风险等级的决定。由此推知,他的态度是支持的。故选A项。

If an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so is your mental health. ____16____. Spend the next week observing your daily habits and keep track of them to find what helps.
The power of rest.
____17____. Sleeping seven to nine hours per night, on average, reduces the risk of depression by about 22%. Not only does sleep enable us to strengthen memories, helping us remember what we’ve learned during the day, but it also plays a key role in keeping our immune systems strong.
____18____.
Antidepressant medicines tend to be faster in treating depression. For some people, medication gives them a benefit in the beginning, but then it fades over time. A recent study found that people who exercise regularly report fewer days of bad mental health. And there’s a solid body of evidence linking physical activity to improved moods. Therefore, physical exercise has more durable effects than an antidepressant does.
Limit sitting time by cutting back on screen time.
There’s growing evidence that more time in front of screens can harm our physical and mental health. ____19____. But if you are taking it as a daily habit, you’re probably spending too much time on the sofa and not enough time interacting with people. This behavior is very bad.
Cultivate friendships and social connections through hobbies.
This may sound obvious, but spending time with people we like, especially when we’re engaged in activities we like, helps boost our mood. A new study, based on surveys of people in 16 countries, finds that people 65 and older who have hobbies report higher life satisfaction and less depression. Hobbies really involve aspects of creativity and engagement, whether it’s gardening, knitting, painting, playing games or volunteering. ____20____.

Jeremy likes to help his family with chores (家务). He spends time playing with his baby sister while Mom cooks dinner. After supper, he dries the dishes for Dad. But Jeremy’s favorite job is feeding Fletch.
Fletch is the family cat. He is brown and black, with tiger stripes across his back. Fletch lets Jeremy know he’s hungry by bumping his head on Jeremy’s legs.
One night after supper, Mom asked Jeremy to find Baby Suzy’s doll. “I think she dropped it in the back yard this afternoon. She won’t be able to sleep without it. Can you take a look before it gets dark?”
Jeremy opened the kitchen door and ran outside. The bright red doll was easy to find in the grass. Jeremy grabbed it and ran inside.
Later that night, Jeremy was ready for bed. He always said goodnight to Fletch before turning out the light, but Fletch wasn’t in his room. Jeremy looked in the bathroom and hallway. Then he went downstairs.
Jeremy looked in the living room and dining room, but Fletch was not there.
With almost every corner of the house searched, Jeremy could barely see Fletch’s figure, a wave of anxiety sweeping over Jeremy. When he got to the kitchen with butterflies in his stomach, Jeremy began to cry.
Mom looked up from her tea. “Jeremy, you should be in bed! What’s wrong?”
Jeremy gasped (喘息) for breath. “The back door is open!” he cried. “And I can’t find Fletch anywhere!”
Mom frowned. “I think you’re right to be worried,” she said slowly. “Fletch may have slipped out the door.”
Mom hugged Jeremy tight. They sat together until Jeremy stopped crying. “Cats are very smart,” she said. “Fletch will probably come home for breakfast.”

【答案】参考范文
Jeremy had trouble falling asleep. Wide awake, he imagined all the ways Fletch could get hurt outside in the dark, a wave of anxiety sweeping over him once more. With Mum’s comforting words ringing again in his ears, Jeremy sighed with relief and hoped for the best, saying to himself, “Fletch will be all right.” After what seemed a century, Jeremy closed his eyes and finally drifted off to sleep. Then all of a sudden, the sun shone in his eyes, and it was morning.
Jeremy jumped out of the bed, ran straight to the back door and opened it wide. There was Fletch, licking his paws to wash his face. Looking at Jeremy with guilty eyes, Fletch meowed and meowed. Then he slipped inside the door and walked straight to his food bowl. Jeremy called excitedly, “Mum, Fletch is back!” “Thank goodness! Take good care of Fletch, Jeremy!” Mom responded. Jeremy felt extremely relieved that Fletch was safe and sound, promising to close the door nice and tight later on. This time he gave Fletch an extra scoop of cat food, Fletch meowing happily in response.

A Inactivity and indifference. B. Ambition and consideration.
C. Selfishness and immaturity. D. Independence and self-worth.
6. What contributes to the popularity of the phrase “Princess, please xx” in paragraph 4?
A. Its formal and traditional tone. B. Its humor and emotional value.
C Its connection to ancient traditions.

C. Its population has increased rapidly.

He is brown and black with tiger stripes across his back.
“Jeremy you should be in bed!
