18.What is the speaker mainly talking about?
A.The personal space rules. B.The pace of life in South Korea. C.Her experience with culture shock.
19.Why did the speaker leave Italy?
A.For work. B.For study. C.For travel.
20.Which of the following might the speaker feel comfortable with?
A.The school life. B.The safety cameras. C.The quiet in public.
【答案】18.C 19.A 20.C
I recently moved from Italy to South Korea to teach at an international high school in Seoul. Now, after six months of living here, I’m finally getting used to almost everything! But here are some of the things I found the most surprising when I first arrived here. Firstly, school is taken very seriously here. Even very young kids attend several schools and after-school activities and have a lot of homework. This leads to good grades and well-behaved kids but also puts a lot of pressure on young people. Secondly, the pace of life here is really fast. If you order food at a restaurant, it can usually be on your table in minutes with good quality. If you need something fixed, or your clothes cleaned, it can usually be done within a few hours, which is amazing! Thirdly, the personal space rules are different. People stand closer together than I was used to. But they also tend to be a lot quieter in public here, which is nice! Finally, security cameras are everywhere, and people will happily leave their computers, phones, and wallets on café tables. I still can’t get used to that!

If there’s one sound which represents everything there is to fall in love with on safari (观兽旅行), it’s the roar of a lion at nightfall. I heard it one evening in the Qwabi Private Game Reserve, where the Waterberg mountains spill outward like an unfolding story.
We’d just watched a remarkable standoff: lionesses baring teeth and muscle to a dominant male who’d wandered too close. The roars came first, then a sudden, striking charge. Paws (爪子) flew and their breath hung in the air over the grasslands, before the male eventually turned and dropped to the ground in frustration. It was pure theatre, to which we had front-row seats.
The Waterberg is a place of quiet success. A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2001, this 654,000-hectare region in Limpopo Province is one of South Africa’s best-kept safari secrets. It’s a region where conservation feels like a lived value. Thanks to collaboration between private reserves, landowners and anti-poaching units, the region has recorded some of the lowest rhino (犀牛) poaching statistics in the country.
Head guide Damien Fourie was extensive in his knowledge and boyishly excited about every sight and sound. After careful tracking, we came across a group of lions resting beneath a thorn tree, their bodies exposed only by the swinging of a tail. And when we spotted a two-week-old white rhino walking unsteadily beside its mother later on the drive, he was as thrilled as we were.
Still, even if you see nothing but sky and silence, the Waterberg delivers. On our final morning, after a night of rain, I skipped the game drive in favor of a coffee on the deck. I watched the steam rise as the morning sun warmed the valley. The end of my time in the bush came with no distant lion roars, no whispering packs, no newborn rhino. Not every safari needs a drumroll ending. Sometimes, a slow, misty morning and a quiet deck tick all the boxes.
24.What did the author witness about the lions?
A.Their playful race. B.Their staged show.
C.Their fierce conflict. D.Their hunting attempt.
25.What do the underlined words “a lived value” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.A key concept. B.A public image.
C.An ignored idea. D.An active practice.
26.Which of the following best describes Damien?
A.Calm and distant. B.Informed and passionate.
C.Energetic and creative. D.Disciplined and ambitious.
27.What does the author think of the safari?
A.It displayed racial harmony.
B.It had a disappointing ending.
C.It revealed why she loved nature.
D.It satisfied what she could hope for.
根据文章第二段中的“We’d just watched a remarkable standoff: lionesses baring teeth and muscle to a dominant male who’d wandered too close. The roars came first, then a sudden, striking charge. Paws flew and their breath hung in the air over the grasslands, before the male eventually turned and dropped to the ground in frustration.(我们刚刚目睹了一场引人注目的对峙:母狮们露出牙齿和肌肉,对一头靠得太近的占主导地位的雄狮。先是咆哮声,然后是突然而猛烈的冲锋。狮爪飞舞,它们的呼吸在草原上方的空气中飘荡,最后雄狮沮丧地转身倒在地上)”可知,作者目睹了狮子之间激烈的冲突。故选C项。
25.词句猜测题。根据文章第三段中的“Thanks to collaboration between private reserves, landowners and anti-poaching units, the region has recorded some of the lowest rhino poaching statistics in the country.(由于私人保护区、土地所有者和反偷猎单位之间的合作,该地区记录了该国最低的犀牛偷猎数据)”可知,该地区在保护野生动物方面取得了显著成效,说明保护在该地区是一种积极的实践。
根据文章第四段中的“Head guide Damien Fourie was extensive in his knowledge and boyishly excited about every sight and sound.(首席导游Damien Fourie知识渊博,对每一处景象和声音都像孩子一样兴奋)”以及“And when we spotted a two-week-old white rhino walking unsteadily beside its mother later on the drive, he was as thrilled as we were.( 后来在驱车途中,我们看到一头两周大的白犀牛摇摇晃晃地跟在它的母亲身旁走着。那一刻,它和我们一样兴奋不已)”可知,Damien Fourie知识渊博,对每一次的景象和声音都充满热情,由此可推测出他是一个知识丰富且充满激情的人。故选B项。
27.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段中的“Not every safari needs a drumroll ending. Sometimes, a slow, misty morning and a quiet deck tick all the boxes.(并不是每一次观兽旅行都需要一个激动人心的结局。有时候,一个缓慢、雾蒙蒙的早晨和一个安静的甲板就足够了)”可知,作者认为观兽旅行并不总是需要激动人心的结局,有时一个安静、缓慢的早晨和甲板也能满足她的期望。由此可推测出作者认为这次观兽旅行满足了她的期望。D选项“It satisfied what she could hope for.( 这满足了她所期望的一切。)”
C
Every year, monarch butterflies travel thousands of kilometers as they migrate from Canada to Mexico in the fall, just to head back north again in the spring. This is possible thanks to the natural structure of their wings, which makes them lightweight, flexible, and excellent at flying — a unique combination the researchers wanted to copy in their robots.
Despite their small size, the natural design of monarch butterfly wings is very complex, evolving to stand extremely long journeys. One of the fundamental principles that make these wings so efficient during flight is that they don’t just create thrust (推力) by actively moving, but also by passively bending their natural shape, which allows them to ‘glide’ without spending additional energy.
To achieve this, the research team, led by Oliver Gutfleisch at TU Darmstadt, built the robotic butterfly wings by putting magnetic particles (磁性粒子) into a flexible plastic material. “The wings are made from a magnetic composite material that responds to external magnetic fields,” said Kilian Schāfer, co-author of the study. “When a magnetic field is applied, the magnetic particles cause the wings to bend, copying the movement of real butterfly wings.”
Using 3D printing, the researchers created 12 different wing designs with different sizes to test their behavior using a mix of experimental tests and computer simulations. Some of the designs also recreated vein (翅脉) patterns in their design that copied those found in monarch butterfly wings to test if these structures could improve their performance. What they found was that larger wings — about 28 mm long — with vein patterns were less rigid and easier to bend, making them better at adapting their shape during flight.
In their tests, the scientists also found that butterflies that were 3D-printed using higher energy laser (激光) settings were thinner and better at bending. However, they were also more delicate and easily damaged. “The biggest challenge was creating thin, flexible structures with vein patterns that were still functional while being less than a millimeter thick,” said Schāfer. “Ensuring that these features were preserved required fine-tuning 3Dprinting process, particularly the laser energy settings, to achieve the desired mechanical properties.”
28.How did the researchers make the robotic wings fly?
A.By applying external magnetic fields. B.By using the restorative force of the plastic.
C.By filling them with air pressure. D.By attaching tiny mechanical motors.
29.What did the scientists find about the 3D-printed robotic wings?
A.All wing designs showed identical flight behavior.
B.Smaller wings kept robots’ energy requirement low.
C.Larger wings with vein patterns performed the best.
D.The vein patterns made wings rigid and worse for flight.
30.What is the message implied in the last paragraph?
A.3D printing helped produce stronger robotic butterflies.
B.Adjusting laser energy could make ideal robotic butterflies.
C.Magnetic material made flying robots unable to function well.
D.Higher energy settings ensured wings were more adaptable.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Monarch Butterfly Migration Is Simply Magical
B.Butterflies Lead to Artificial Colors for 3D Printing
C.Butterflies’ Movements Reveal Earth’s Magnetic Field
D.Monarch Butterflies Have Inspired the Robotic Wings
【答案】28.A 29.C 30.B 31.D
根据第三段中“When a magnetic field is applied, the magnetic particles cause the wings to bend, copying the movement of real butterfly wings. (当施加磁场时,磁性粒子会使翅膀发生弯曲,从而模仿出真实蝴蝶翅膀的运动方式。)”可知,研究人员通过施加外部磁场使机器人翅膀飞行。故选A项。
根据第四段中“What they found was that larger wings — about 28 mm long — with vein patterns were less rigid and easier to bend, making them better at adapting their shape during flight. (他们发现,带有翅脉图案、长约28毫米的较大翅膀,刚性较小,更容易弯曲,从而使其在飞行过程中能够更好地调整自身的形状。)”可知,科学家发现,带有翅脉图案的较大翅膀表现最佳。故选C项。
30.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Ensuring that these features were preserved required fine-tuning 3Dprinting process, particularly the laser energy settings, to achieve the desired mechanical properties. (要确保这些特性得以保留,就需要对3D打印过程进行精细调整,尤其是要调整激光能量的设置,以达到所需的机械性能。)”可推知,调整激光能量可以制造出理想的机器人蝴蝶。故选B项。
31.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中“This is possible thanks to the natural structure of their wings, which makes them lightweight, flexible, and excellent at flying — a unique combination the researchers wanted to copy in their robots. (这之所以能够实现,是因为它们翅膀的自然结构使其具备了轻巧、灵活以及出色的飞行能力——这种独特的组合正是研究人员希望在他们的机器人中复制的。)”可知,文章整体围绕研究人员模仿帝王蝶翅膀的自然结构来制造机器人翅膀,并详细描述了设计、测试和优化过程。因此,D项“帝王蝶启发了机器人翅膀的设计”最契合文章主旨,适合作为文章标题。故选D项。
D
Fifteen decades ago, Francis Galton first came up with the term “nature versus nurture”, and this debate over the factors shaping human identity has long been a central topic in human sciences. Do our genes determine our life paths, as hereditarians (遗传论者) argue? Or are we born as empty paper, shaped merely by the experiences we have in our families and the wider world? Today, however, a new branch of science is ready to overturn the debate. Through this new perspective, nature and nurture are hardly separable at all — genes and the environment do not act independently, but instead interact closely and even shape one another in tangible ways.
Genes do not shape our identities merely on their own within our bodies; instead, they function partly by molding the environments we choose or create. A striking finding of this research is that our environment is, in part, shaped by the genes of the people around us. Initial research suggests that your partner’s genes influence your likelihood of depression almost a third as much as your own genes do. A few students with a genetic trend for smoking in a high school seemed to cause smoking rates to skyrocket across the entire grade — even among students who have no direct contact with these students — like a gene-driven wildfire spreading through social networks.
Genes alone aren’t enough to determine these outcomes and neither is environment. Nature and nurture both shape each other, with nature influencing the way we experience nurture and nurture influencing the way our nature expresses itself. The more opportunities and information the environment provides — the more varied environments become — the bigger the role that genetic variation plays in distinguishing us into different groups.
Nature and nurture aren’t separate forces — they’re a Möbius strip (莫比乌斯环), endlessly circling back on each other. This interdependence means their interaction is fluid and reciprocal, a core insight of sociogenomics that bridges genetic and social science.
32.Why did the author mention the “nature versus nurture” debate in paragraph 1?
A.To emphasize the dominant role of family experiences.
B.To introduce a long-standing core topic in human sciences.
C.To highlight the weakness of early hereditarians’ arguments.
D.To lay a contrastive foundation for a new scientific perspective.
33.What can be inferred from the example of students?
A.Smoking behavior spreads mainly through direct persuasion.
B.Genetic tendencies can indirectly change group behavior.
C.School rules fail to control students’ genetic instincts.
D.Only smokers’ friends adopt the same genetic risks.
34.What happens when environments become more diverse according to paragraph 3?
A.People rely less on their genetic traits.
B.Genetic differences play a smaller role.
C.Genetic differences become more influential.
D.Nurture becomes more important than nature.
35.What does the author mean by comparing nature and nurture to a “Möbius strip”?
A.They depend entirely on physical conditions.
B.They have a one-way influence on each other.
C.They form a complex, continuous cycle of impact.
D.They are two separate parts of human development.
根据第一段中“Fifteen decades ago, Francis Galton first came up with the term “nature versus nurture”, and this debate over the factors shaping human identity has long been a central topic in human sciences.
根据第二段中“A few students with a genetic trend for smoking in a high school seemed to cause smoking rates to skyrocket across the entire grade — even among students who have no direct contact with these students — like a gene-driven wildfire spreading through social networks. (高中里几名有吸烟遗传倾向的学生似乎导致整个年级的吸烟率飙升——甚至包括那些与这些学生没有直接接触的学生——就像基因驱动的野火通过社交网络蔓延。)”可知,在该例中,少数有吸烟遗传倾向的学生也能通过社交网络间接影响整个群体的行为,这表明基因倾向可以间接改变群体行为模式。故选B项。
34.细节理解题。根据第三段中“The more opportunities and information the environment provides — the more varied environments become — the bigger the role that genetic variation plays in distinguishing us into different groups. (环境提供的机会和信息越多——环境越多样化——遗传变异在将我们区分成不同群体时所扮演的角色就越大。)”可知,当环境变得更加多样化时,遗传差异的作用会变得更加显著。故选C项。
35.细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Nature and nurture aren’t separate forces — they’re a Möbius strip (莫比乌斯环), endlessly circling back on each other. This interdependence means their interaction is fluid and reciprocal (先天与后天并非相互独立的力量——它们就像一个莫比乌斯环,不断地相互交织循环。这种相互依存的关系意味着它们之间的相互作用是灵活且相互关联的)”可知,作者将先天与后天比作“莫比乌斯环”,意在说明它们形成了一个复杂且持续相互影响的循环。故选C项。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Understanding Risk Awareness
Risk awareness is an interesting aspect of human mind, influencing decisions from daily activities to major life choices. Individuals often judge wrongly risks, either overstating or understating them. 36 For instance, flying is in terms of statistics safer than driving, yet many are more worried about flying. This difference is largely due to what experts in mind study refer to as the availability mental trick, a type of mental shortcut in which events easy to remember, such as incidents involving planes, control our thoughts.
37 Some societies accept risk-taking by valuing adventure and new ideas, while others put safety first and act with caution. These attitudes are shaped by historical experiences, economic steadiness, and societal rules. 38 In countries with high economic unfairness, people may take more risks because they have fewer resources, fewer opportunities, and feel they have little to lose. In contrast, rich societies might avoid risks to maintain their present situation and protect property.
Moreover, media coverage greatly alters risks as they are seen. 39 Shocking stories about rare but very destructive events create a twisted image of reality. Public campaigns and education fight against this by providing balanced information, helping individuals make wise decisions. 40 Understanding the mind behind risk awareness allows people making policies to design better plans for public safety and health.
A.Economic conditions also play a part in shaping risk attitudes.
B.In fact, we make judgments about various risks every single day.
C.This is why it's important to get information from reliable sources.
D.People in different societies have completely opposite views on risk.
E.Cultural backgrounds deeply influence how people view and react to risks.
F.Media tends to focus on dramatic events, ignoring ordinary but safe situations.
G.Such misjudgments often come from mental habits we use to simplify thinking.

Science and Technology Change Life
The rise of smart home devices is a vivid example of how technology reshapes daily life. In my home, we have installed voice-controlled lights that adjust brightness and color automatically.
This innovation has influenced me significantly. Primarily, it has fostered environmental awareness. By optimizing energy use, I have become more conscious of sustainable living. Furthermore, it has enhanced family time. Instead of manually adjusting lamps, we now have more leisure moments together in comfortably lit spaces.
I’ve learned to manage it as a practical tool for efficiency, not entertainment, ensuring it serves rather than distracts from real-life interactions.

When I was chosen by my headteacher to present our class project at the annual school event on behalf of my class, I felt both honored and anxious. Speaking in front of such a large audience had always been my biggest fear. Although the project, which focused on reducing plastic waste on campus, meant a lot to all of us, I was still worried that my nervousness would ruin everything.
During the first practice session, I struggled to get through the speech. My voice shook, and I mispronounced several words. Worse still, I forgot some key points, which left me feeling both frustrated and embarrassed. Seeing my struggle, my best friend Lily volunteered to help. Every afternoon, she stayed with me after school, patiently listening to my rehearsals and giving suggestions. “Take it slow. You’re doing better each time,” she would say, encouraging me with her calm smile. Slowly, I began to feel more confident.
A week before the event, our headteacher organized a full rehearsal in the auditorium. Standing on the huge stage made my stomach flip, and I felt as if the bright lights were burning my face. Halfway through the speech, I completely lost track of my lines and froze in panic. My heart was pounding, and I thought I would never continue. Just then, I noticed my classmates in the front row, smiling and mouthing, “You can do it!” Their warm support helped me regain focus, and I managed to finish the rehearsal, even if it wasn’t perfect.
The night before the event, I lay in bed, filled with worries about everything that might go wrong. I imagined forgetting my lines, stumbling over words, or even tripping on the stage. The next morning, just before I stepped onto the stage, Lily quietly slipped a small note into my hand. It read simply, “We believe in you.” Her words made my heart race, but in a good way. I realized that I wasn’t alone — I had the support of my friends and classmates, and that gave me courage.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
As I stepped onto the stage, a wave of nervousness washed over me.

When I finished, the auditorium erupted with applause.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
As I stepped onto the stage, a wave of nervousness washed over me. Reminding myself of Lily’s note and my classmates’ support, I took a deep breath and began speaking about our project — how we organized campus clean-ups, encouraged students to use reusable bottles, and reduced plastic waste. As I spoke, I noticed the audience leaning forward, listening carefully. The teachers nodded, some smiling, and even younger students seemed inspired. With each sentence, my confidence grew, and the fear that had seemed so overwhelming began to melt away.
When I finished, the auditorium erupted with applause. I looked at my classmates and Lily, and we all cheered together. Later, several students came up to me, saying they felt inspired by my speech and wanted to join our project. That moment taught me an important lesson: courage isn’t about never being afraid — it’s about taking action in spite of fear. From then on, I promised myself to face challenges boldly, knowing that support, determination, and a positive attitude could make even the impossible possible.

Traditional Chinese herbal medicine, a time-honored practice 56 (originate) from more than 5,000 years ago, is a vital part of Chinese culture. Based on the concept of “harmony between humans and nature”, it holds the view 57 each herb has its own unique property to balance the body’s inner energy, or qi. 58 Western medicine, which often targets symptoms directly, Chinese herbs aim to restore the body’s natural balance and cure illnesses from the root 59 they take more time to show effects.
In ancient times, doctors journeyed into remote mountains to gather wild herbs. Today, these herbs are not only grown on professional plantations but also are exported across the world because over time, more and more people 60 (witness) herbs selected carefully for their properties work well in relieving certain conditions. A single herb can work alone, or it can be mixed with others to make a 61 (tailor) prescription (药方) — a process that requires rich experience to ensure safety and 62 (efficient).
Many herbs are frequently used in daily life: they 63 (boil) into tea to clear internal heat or added to soups to boost immunity (免疫力). There is 64 growing global interest in herbal medicine, as more people recognize its mild yet lasting benefits. Researchers in this field are now conducting studies to clarify its scientific principles, linking traditional wisdom with modern science.

I recently moved from italy to south korea to teach at an international high school in soul. Now, after six months of living here, i'm finally getting used to almost everything. But here are some of the things I found the most surprising when I first arrived here. Firstly, school is taken very seriously here. Even very Young kids attend several schools and after school activities and have a lot of homework. This leads to good grades and well behaved kids, but also puts a lot of pressure on Young people. Secondly, thEpace of life here is really fast. If you order food at a restaurant, IT can usually be on your table in minutes with good quality. If you need something fixed or your clothes cleaned, IT can usually be done within a few hours, which is amazing. Thirdly, the personal space rules are different. People stand closer together than I was used to, but they also tend to be a lot quieter in public care, which is nice. Finally, security cameras are everywhere, and people will happily leave their computers, phones and wallets on cafe tables. I still can't get used to that. People stand closer together than I was used to, but they also tend to be a lot quieter in public here, which is nice. Finally, security cameras are everywhere, and people will happily leave their computers, phones and wallets on cafe tables. I still can't get used that.
