You may come across some. Here we will take a look at some of the most common English words found in other languages. Faux Pas Faux pas is a French phrase, translated as “false step”. When speaking, you can say “A certain celebrity made a faux pas by wearing black to a floral(花的)-themed event.” or “I made a faux pas by ordering pineapple on my pizza in Italy.” It is something that usually means an incorrect judgment is made in a social situation determined by social customs or traditions. Rendezvous Also from French, rendezvous means “meeting” or “date”. Interestingly, in the 1590s, the military used “rendezvous” as an expression of “a place for assembling troops”. Even today military tacticians(战术家) may use the term “rendezvous point”, as you may have heard in some war films. Next time you can ask your English friends, “What time shall we rendezvous?” It is seen as a cute and charming expression. Caveat Caveat is a word taken directly from Latin and means a limitation and a warning in an agreement. It is a written term initially applied in the legal field. However, it has been integrated into spoken language as well now. For example, you can say “The owner of our beach house gave an important caveat that we should keep the doors locked at all times.” or “The offer is fantastic except for one caveat: having to work on weekends.” Ergo Ergo comes directly from Latin, meaning “consequently” or “accordingly”. It is used to introduce the logical result of something that has just been mentioned. An example of its use can be “You saw the robbery. Ergo, you will be called a witness.” or “The summer is coming and many people are going on holiday. Ergo, the city will be empty.” 1.How will you feel if you make a faux pas in a ceremony? A.Curious. B.Overjoyed. C.Embarrassed. D.Respected. 2.What do the two words “rendezvous” and “caveat” have in common? A.They are used in a wider range now. B.They are limited to formal writings. C.They are of the same long history. D.They are from the same language. 3.What do you usually use “ergo” to introduce? A.A condition. B.A conclusion. C.An assumption. D.An addition. Ⅱ.七选五 (2025广东省茂名市5+2校际联盟质量检测) Body Language Tips for Your Next Interview Body language can reveal yourself, and interviewers are definitely paying attention to it. For a job interview, you want to present the best version of yourself. 1   Make a solid first impression. The interview begins as soon as you enter the building. When you connect with whomever you encounter, maintain strong eye contact and introduce yourself confidently. If you are in a waiting area, avoid hunching (弓背) over your phone. 2 Instead, sit upright in a comfortable position.   3 Discomfort is another issue that can be very disturbing for both you and the interviewer.Buying a nice pair of new shoes or a belt to match your suit may seem like a great idea, but if your wardrobe (全部衣物) causes you to be nervous or do a lot of shifts, consider going with a proper but reliable choice instead.  Be responsive and listen to understand. It’s natural to tell the interviewer all about yourself and the achievements and experiences that make you stand out. But don’t forget to listen or engage with what the interviewers are saying. 4 And how you behave when you’re not talking is an important part of the impression you’ll make.  Be mindful of your hands. Interviewers are trying to get a sense of who you are, so let your personality shine through! This includes talking with your hands if that comes naturally to you. Stifling a feature like this can actually lead to unnecessary nervousness. 5   A.Buy new clothes before the interview. B.Think twice before wearing the new shoes. C.Just adopt the tips below to impress interviewers. D.They will be looking to assess your interpersonal skills. E.They will assume you are not interested in your future position. F.This kind of body language can be easily understood as boredom. G.So feel free to use your hands to communicate effectively and sincerely. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.        Ⅲ.完形填空 (2025湖南长沙入学考试) Last week, a plate of DIY baked cookies saved me from myself. Shouts and laughter often 5 late into the night or early into the morning.  Since I suffered from neurasthenia (神经衰弱), I had to move to a(n) 6 part of town, certainly at great expense.
