Dani breathed in the fresh mountain air. She had to admit that it was beautiful here in Colorado. She and her parents were hiking in Red Rocks. The landscape here felt a world away from Virginia where, until recently, they had lived. Thinking about Virginia made all her hard feelings about the move come rushing back. She missed her friends. Her mom was transferred to Colorado to be a flight instructor at the Air Force Academy. Dani had been giving her parents the cold shoulder ever since.
As she waited for her parents to catch up, she looked up at the blue sky and noticed the cloud-like lines, evidence that an airplane had recently flown overhead. “That is why we are here,” she thought as a wave of pride washed over her. “This is Mom's dream job.” She knew that she had to stop punishing her parents for the move.
Dani headed back to her parents on the path. But she stopped when she heard a low voice say,“No sudden moves.” When she turned around, Dani was surprised to see a boy about her age standing there looking as alarmed as she felt. “Listen,” he said. At first, Dani couldn't hear anything. But then she heard it. “A rattlesnake(响尾蛇)?” Dani breathed. Recognizing Dani's anxiety, the boy encouraged her, “It's okay.” The rattling intensified, and now Dani saw a big brown-and-yellow snake on the ground.
“Phew!” the boy let out a sigh of relief. “It's just a bull snake trying to trick us. He wants to convince us that he's a rattlesnake, but he's not poisonous. I'm Julian. I can teach you how to watch out for all the different wild animals out here, if you want.” “I'd like that,” Dani smiled. “And I'm Dani. My parents and I just moved here from Virginia.”
Then, Dani's mom and dad appeared. Dani introduced Julian to them and shared their little adventure. The group continued forward, Julian pointing out local plants and wildlife. For the first time, Dani thought maybe this sudden move wasn't such a terrible thing.
24.How did Dani feel about the move at first?

B.She had the same dream as her mom.
C.She stopped to punish her parents for the move.
D.She was regretful for her previous behavior.
26.Which one is the influence of Dani's experience with the snake?
A.It gave her a chance to recognize different wild animals.
B.It made her afraid of rattlesnakes ever since.
C.It encouraged her to share the adventure with her parents.
D.It helped her realize that the sudden move was not bad.
27.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Do as the Romans do
B.A friend in need is a friend indeed
C.Changes can be difficult but rewarding
D.Never judge a book by its cover
C
Technology has made online friendships possible. Online friends are people who have known each other through the Internet. Are online friendships as beneficial as face-to-face friendships?
When you use social networking websites and chat rooms, you can easily find people with similar interests and hobbies. Making friends on the Internet is especially good for shy people who feel uncomfortable in social situations. It's often easier to share thoughts and feelings online. What's more, online friends can make people feel less lonely and help them solve problems.
Although the Internet can encourage friendships, it has a major disadvantage. It's much easier for some people to cheat others because they are not face to face. Online friends only tell you what they want you to know. They sometimes exaggerate their good qualities and hide the less positive ones, so you can't be sure of what they are really like.
Some feel as strongly about their online friends as they do about their offline friends. And it's not unusual for online friends to become face-to-face friends. However, there are many people who believe that it's not possible for people to have deep relationships with online friends.
People express different opinions about online friendships. However, most of them would agree that face-to-face friendships cannot be replaced by online friendships.
28.How can you make online friends?
A.By chatting with people personally.
B.By exploring social networking websites.
C.By finding people with different interests.
D.By sharing thoughts face to face.
29.What is the third paragraph mainly about?
A.The people who cheat others.
B.Disadvantages of online friendships.
C.Advantages of offline friendships.
D.Advantages of online friendships.
30.What does the underlined word “exaggerate” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Praise. B.Own. C.Enlarge. D.Lack.
31.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Online friendships are dangerous.
B.Online friendships are not important.
C.Face-to-face friendships are not good.
D.Face-to-face friendships will remain.
D
Student loan debt has become a worldwide problem. In America, the country's overall student debt reached a record of $1.6 trillion in 2019. The average person with student loan debt owed between$20,000 and $25,000. A recent Japanese government report says it has been lending over $9 billion yearly to students since 2010. Similar conditions exist in Africa and South America.
Several factors account for high student loan debt. One is that employers everywhere have increased their demands for skilled workers, making higher education a requirement for many jobs. The students, however, after graduation, often find that their country's economy is not strong enough to support their financial needs, so their ability to pay back the loan becomes a problem.
To solve the problem, many countries are seeking their ways. Australia has developed a system where students do not have to pay anything back until they are earning at least $40,000 a year. In America, several candidates running for president in the 2020 election have offered more extreme solutions that all or at least some of these loans will be forgiven.
Some professors in several universities recently studied what the effects of debt forgiveness might be. They found that, overall, sudden debt relief greatly improved the borrowers' lives. Not only did they have more money, but they were more likely to move to a new area and seek better-paying work.
Yet the professors' research doesn't include what might happen to financial institutions or the overall economy if debts were totally forgiven. It only looks at how debt forgiveness would help the borrowers. The professors warn of some other possible negative effects. If a borrower knew that if he ran into any trouble he would be saved because he could get the debt relief, then he might actually become more reckless (无所顾忌的) with his borrowing in the future.
No matter what, the professors agree that if countries do decide to approve some student debt relief, the neediest students should be helped first.
32.How does the author introduce the problem of student loan debt?
A.By making a comparison.
B.By making classifications.
C.By presenting some statistics.
D.By setting down general rules.
33.What can we learn about student loan debt relief?
A.It will surely provide some benefits for borrowers.
B.It has already been carried out in the United States.
C.It aims to encourage more students to borrow money.
D.It will prevent a person from landing a well-paying job.
34.What is the professors' attitude to debt forgiveness?
A.Uncaring. B.Positive.
C.Disapproving. D.Cautious.
35.What's the main idea of the text?
A.Student loan debt is the most serious problem worldwide.
B.Growing global student loan debt fuels the search for solutions.
C.Student loan debt tends to pull the needy out of trouble.
D.People hold different opinions on debt forgiveness.

Attitudes toward small talk can vary, but there are a few reasons why some people may dislike small talk.
36 People who value deep connections may find small talk insufficient to build meaningful relationships. But it needn't be. If the goal is to use small talk to deepen connections with others, consider the kind of information you are sharing. Communication research differentiates three levels of conversation: factual, personal, and relational.
At the most superficial level of conversation, we share facts. We talk about things and their place in time and space, exchange news and facts, and report on our experiences factually and objectively (e.g. “It was warm outside today.” “I work as a computer analyst.”). Almost all these are factual information. 37
The next is the personal level, where we talk about how we feel about the content at the informational level (e.g. “I love the warm weather today.” “ 38 ”). The personal level is defined by sharing emotions about something or someone beyond the current time and space. Sharing at the personal level invites the other person to connect with you at this deeper level.
39 Think: What's happening now? How am I feeling at this moment? How do you feel being here with me? When we bring our attention to the present moment, we often experience greater engagement and connection with others. 40 This brings our attention to the many aspects of our present-moment experience and lets another person into our inner world.
You can get a sense of how the experience of intimate (亲密的) connection with another person deepens as we move through the levels.
A.I just came from London.
B.I find my work rewarding.
C.It has nothing to do with oversharing.
D.It can be quite useful, but it lacks emotional content.
E.Small talk is often seen as shallow and lacking depth.
F.One way we can do this is to start sentences with “I notice...”.
G.The relational level involves sharing in the present moment and space.

It is only in the NOW that we can truly live. Our dreams for the future are just that: 52 . Whether they come true or not isn't as 53 as how we live each day here.
Everyone knows that 56 (succeed) rarely happens overnight, but perhaps not many know that a lot of 57 (high) successful writers have previously faced rejection.
When J.K. Rowling received her first rejection letter, she 58 (stick) it on her kitchen wall. Rowling had spent years surviving on little money, 59 (spend) all her time writing. After 60 total of twelve rejections, she succeeded. As we know, Harry Potter became a 61 (globe) success.
J.D. Salinger started writing short stories in high school, but later struggled to get his work 62 (publish). Despite rejections from several publishers, he refused to give up.
Perhaps the overall prize 63 perseverance should go to the Brontë sisters. There was a time 64 women were not encouraged to become writers, so they had to write a book of poems under male names. Even when the book sold only two copies, the sisters still didn't give up.
It seems that talent alone isn't enough 65 (guarantee) success. While a lot of hard work and a touch of luck play a part, perseverance is the key.

As a sixth grader, I began noticing how other kids were separating into different groups in the class. There were the geeks, the jokers, and the popular cool kids. I wasn't sure where I belonged. And I thought that it was a problem.
Our teacher had assigned “secret friends” for the coming week. The purpose of this assignment was to do nice things for your friend without letting him know. We could leave encouraging notes on his desk or mysteriously leave a card in his backpack or book. Our teacher wrote each kid's name on a piece of paper and threw them into a bucket, then we each closed our eyes and drew the name of the classmate who we were to secretly befriend and support over the next five school days.
Everyone was excited to get involved, including Rochelle. By the middle of the week, we had turned this assignment into a contest to see whose secret friend could leave the best gift. Instead of encouraging notes, we left stationary sets on our friend's desk. Instead of giving compliments, we were giving bubble gum, lollipops and even money. It seemed that everyone was getting cool presents from their friends. Everyone except me, that is.
My secret friend followed our teacher's direction without fault. I received handmade cards, notes with nice thoughts and countless smiley face pictures saying that I was one of the nicest girls in the class. This friend seemed to think highly of me from the notes that were left, but the lack of gifts kept me wondering what was up with whoever had pulled my name.
On the last morning of our assignment, I walked into my classroom and noticed a package on my desk. At last, my secret friend had grasped the idea that a gift was what I really needed. I quickly ripped open the gift paper, only to find a small doll inside. The pink wool-knit doll seemed not new but delicate. But the girls sitting near me giggled and gossiped about the “little girl” gift I had received.
Hearing this, I felt my face turn red.
It turned out that my secret friend was Rochelle, coming from a poor family.

根据首段中的“Thinking about Virginia made all her hard feelings about the move come rushing back. She missed her friends...the cold shoulder ever since.”
根据第二段中的“‘That is why we are here,’ she thought...she had to stop punishing her parents for the move.”
根据第四段内容和最后一段中的“The group continued forward...Dani thought maybe this sudden move wasn't such a terrible thing.”
根据首段中的“Thinking about Virginia made all her hard feelings about the move come rushing back...ever since.”可知,一开始Dani对搬迁很难理解,甚至冷待自己的父母;根据最后一段中的“For the first time, Dani thought maybe this sudden move wasn't such a terrible thing.”
根据第一段中的“Online friends are people who have known each other through the Internet.”以及第二段中的“When you use social networking websites and chat rooms, you can easily find people with similar interests and hobbies.”
根据第三段中的“Although the Internet can encourage friendships, it has a major disadvantage.”
根据画线词后的“hide the less positive ones, so you can't be sure of what they are really like”可推知,网友有时会夸大自己的优点,隐藏自己的缺点。
根据最后一段中的“However, most of them would agree that face-to-face friendships cannot be replaced by online friendships.”
由第四段中的“They found that, overall, sudden debt relief...seek better-paying work.”
根据第五段中的“Yet the professors' research doesn't include...The professors warn of some other possible negative effects.”
由第一段内容尤其是其中的“Student loan debt has become a worldwide problem.”可知学生贷款债务已经成为一个世界性的问题;由第三段内容尤其是其中的“To solve the problem, many countries are seeking their ways.”
36.E 根据前文“Attitudes toward small talk can vary, but there are a few reasons why some people may dislike small talk.” 根据后文“People who value deep connections may find small talk insufficient to build meaningful relationships.”
38.B 根据前文“The next is the personal level, where we talk about how we feel about the content at the informational level”可知,此处讲述在信息层面讨论我们对内容的感受,所以B项“我觉得我的工作很有意义”符合此处主题,讲述个人层面的感受。故选B。
39.G 根据第二段中的“Communication research differentiates three levels of conversation: factual, personal, and relational.”、第三段中的“At the most superficial level of conversation, we share facts.”和第四段中的“The next is the personal level, where we talk about how we feel about the content at the informational level”可知,前文讲述了事实层面的对话和个人层面的对话,所以本段应讲述关系层面的对话,所以G项“关系层面包括在当下的时刻和空间进行分享”符合语境。故选G。
40.F 根据前文“When we bring our attention to the present moment, we often experience greater engagement and connection with others.”可知,此处讲述把注意力集中在当下;结合后文“This brings our attention to the many aspects of our present-moment experience and lets another person into our inner world.”
couldn't wait to do sth.
故选A。
设空处与下句中的“came to life”呼应,故选B。
“the 50 NOW”与文章最后一段倒数第二句“Each second of the NOW is precious and priceless.”

Rowling received her first rejection letter”可知,设空处的时态应为一般过去时。
a total of...
the prize for...
分析句子可知,“ 64 women were not encouraged to become writers”为定语从句,先行词为a time(一段时间),设空处在从句中作时间状语,所以用关系副词when。
enough to do...
One possible version:
Recently, we had a class discussion about whether to use high technology to restore and display historic buildings on Gulangyu Island. Our opinions are divided.
Some support the creative measures, saying that the use of high technology can attract more visitors. Besides, by using high technology, the buildings on Gulangyu Island may look more beautiful. However, those who are against the idea say that it will destroy the original appearance of the buildings. More importantly, it is essential to respect the history and our tradition.
In my opinion, lots of work can be done to appeal to more visitors. It's our duty to provide the complete and true ancient buildings on Gulangyu Island for the world.
第二节
One possible version:
Hearing this, I felt my face turn red. Embarrassed and ashamed, I secretly complained that the girl gave me so stupid a gift to arouse others' derision. I even joined other girls in gossiping about my secret friend and the poor doll. When I continued with mean remarks, a girl sitting at the last row arose and came up, casting me an angry and disappointed look. With tears streaming down her face, she admitted, “I'm your secret friend and I'm sorry about the gift.” Then she ran out of the classroom. Frozen with shock, I couldn't utter a single word.
It turned out that my secret friend was Rochelle, coming from a poor family. She had saved every penny in her pocket money in order to give me a cool gift. With the limited money, she visited a lot of stores and finally selected the lovely doll from a second-hand store. Actually, she gave me a most valuable gift with her sincere heart. However, I didn't treasure it and hurt her badly in such a cruel way. So ashamed was I that it took me a few days to pluck up the courage to face up to Rochelle and apologize. Much to my delight, she forgave me and later we became best friends. Most importantly, we found where we belonged.
