Here are their stories. Sigrid Undset Sigrid Undset is one of the four Norwegian novelists to have received the Nobel Prize in Literature. Undset received the Nobel Prize in 1928 for her powerful description of life during the Middle Ages in Scandinavia. In her lifetime, she wrote two huge novels set against the background of Norway in the 13th century, the 3-volume Kristin Lavransdatter, and the 4-volume Olav Audunssøn. Gerty Theresa Cori Gerty and her husband, Carl Cori, moved to the United States in 1922, where the two medical doctors worked together (against the advice of their colleagues) at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in New York, hoping to find the cure for diabetes(糖尿病). In 1947, Gerty, Carl and Argentine doctor Bernardo were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, making Gerty the first American woman to hold the honor. Maria Goeppert-Mayer Born in 1906 in Germany, Maria Goeppert-Mayer moved to the US with her husband Joseph Edward Mayer, a chemist, in 1930. While in the US, Goeppert-Mayer developed the nuclear shell model, for which she shared the 1963 Nobel Prize in Physics with Johannes Hans Daniel Jensen and Eugene Paul Wigner. She was the second woman to receive the award. Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Dorothy Hodgkin showed a love of science as a child, and at age 18, she began studying chemistry at a women-only Oxford college. She earned her PhD at the University of Cambridge, where she first took an interest in X-ray crystallography and began studying the structure of proteins. In 1934, she moved back to Oxford, where she was appointed the university's first chemistry research fellow. Her work on mapping vitamin B12 earned her the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1964. 21.What was Sigrid Undset well-known for in history? A.Her discoveries. B.Her inventions. C.Her books. D.Her social work. 22.How old was Maria Goeppert-Mayer when she won the Nobel Prize? A.30. B.57. C.60. D.63. 23.Who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry according to the passage? A.Sigrid Undset. B.Gerty Theresa Cori. C.Maria Goeppert-Mayer. D.Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin. B Living on the edge of Nairobi National Park in Kenya, Richard Turere doesn't like lions. He first became responsible for safeguarding his family's cattle when he was just nine. But often, his valuable livestock(牲畜) would be attacked suddenly by the lions, leaving him to count the losses. “I grew up hating lions very much,” says Richard. “They used to come at night and feed on our cattle when we were sleeping.” So, at the age of 11, Richard decided to find a way of protecting his family's cows, goats and sheep from being hunted by hungry lions. His light bulb moment came with one small observation. One day, when he was walking around, he discovered that the lions were scared of the moving light. He realized that lions dared not approach the farm when someone was walking around with a flashlight. He put his young mind to work and a few weeks later he came up with a creative, simple and low-cost system to scare them away. He fitted a series of flashing LED bulbs onto poles around the livestock enclosure(围栏), facing outward. The lights were wired to a box with switches and to an old car battery powered by a solar panel. They were designed to flash on and off constantly, thus tricking the lions into believing that someone was moving around carrying a flashlight. And it worked. Since Richard set up his “Lion Lights”, his family has not lost any livestock to the wild beasts, to the great delight of his father and astonishment of his neighbors. He then fitted the lights for his neighbors and six other homes in his community. From then on, the lights spread and are now being used all around Kenya. In Zambia and Tanzania his “Lion Lights” are being used, as well. What's even more impressive is that Richard invented and installed(安装) the whole system by himself, without ever receiving any training in electronics or engineering. 24.Why did Richard Turere dislike lions when he was young? A.He was often attacked by lions. B.Lions often ate his family's livestock. C.Lions always affected his sleep at night. D.He thought lions were dangerous for humans. 25.How did Richard get the inspiration for his “Lion Lights”? A.He learned it from his neighbors. B.He got it from a scientific experiment. C.He noticed lions were afraid of moving light. D.He was impressed by a similar device he saw before. 26.What can we know about Richard's “Lion Lights”? A.They cost him a lot of money. B.They are installed by workers. C.They have been used in most African countries. D.They make lions think there are people around. 27.Which of the following can best describe Richard Turere? A.Talented and warmhearted. B.Generous and energetic. C.Intelligent and humorous. D.Productive and knowledgeable. C Fish well-being is a primary topic in fish farming. Therefore, it is important to see the fish as individuals, rather than just a group. Researchers have used camera technology combined with AI to measure and analyze(分析) the breathing rate of individual fish, which provides them with valuable information about fish well-being. In the research project, the researchers have developed a way of analyzing signs of stress and other factors. Using AI, they can recognize the fish and analyze their breathing movements at the same time. The camera technology is able to observe the breath of a fish because it can see its mouth from the side. So the newly developed technology gives the researchers a “digital eye”, which makes it possible to follow numerous fish at the same time. The researchers have carried out experiments, where they tracked nine fish tubs(缸), each containing seven fish. The breathing rates of all the fish were then analyzed under three different temperature patterns(模式), as well as with different oxygen levels in the water. They could see exactly how the breathing of the fish changed in pressurized tubs or in the event of changes in oxygen levels or water temperature. They found that lower oxygen levels caused the fish to breathe more rapidly and saw the same response when they increased the water temperature. Pressure also led to an increase in the breathing rate. The study has contributed to a new understanding of the breathing rates that can be regarded as normal and those that can be considered to show that something may be wrong. However, the researchers also found that the breathing rates of the individual fish vary and some of them breathe more slowly or faster than others. The new technology, which records each fish individually, enables them to see whether the breathing rate of some fish changes, while that of others does not. 28.What is the significance of the newly developed technology? A.It helps farmers feed fish more properly. B.It enables researchers to focus on individual fish. C.It makes it possible for farmers to locate specific fish. D.It allows researchers to control water temperature more easily. 29.What did the researchers find in the experiments? A.Fish could adapt quickly to high pressure. B.Fish in different tubs had the same breathing patterns. C.Changes in oxygen levels had no effect on fish's breathing. D.Higher water temperature made fish breathe more rapidly. 30.What does the discovery of breathing rate variations imply? A.One standard for fish well-being doesn't work for all. B.Group-based studies remain more efficient. C.AI technology can't account for biodiversity. D.Water quality factors matter more to fish than individual differences. 31.Which of the following would be the best title for the text? A.The Future of Fish Farming B.Advanced Methods Promote Fish Well-Being C.New Technology Uncovers Details about Fish Well-Being D.The Importance of Observing Oxygen Levels in Fish Farming D Have you ever seen a car without a driver? It sounds crazy, but these computer-driven driverless cars will soon be filling roads near you. Tech companies around the world have been designing and testing driverless vehicles and the technology is available already. So, how do they work? The cars are covered in sensors that can detect other cars and obstacles on the road. Sensors on the wheels also help when parking. Road signs are read by cameras, and satellite navigation systems are used. Finally, a central computer system takes in all the information and processes this to work out when to accelerate, brake and stop. All you have to do is type in the destination. Sounds like your idea of heaven? Sitting back, looking out of the windows and even watching a film while “driving” will all be possible with this new technology. In addition, computers are generally more efficient drivers than humans, meaning emissions can be reduced. They also drive more safely than people—they don't get distracted by music or friends, they obey the speed limit and they have quicker reaction times in case of an emergency. However, there are still many drawbacks of driverless cars. Computers will have difficulty making ethical(道德上的) decisions. If a child ran out into the road, would the computer choose to hit the child or turn aside sharply and potentially hurt the car's passengers instead? Moreover, I personally find driving fun. I'd miss never being behind the wheel myself. There would also be legal questions. Should children or drunk people be allowed in a driverless car by themselves? Or would there need to be a responsible adult with a driving licence in the car at all times? Although being driven around by a machine would perhaps mean that no one needs a driving license, many people would be put out of a job by the population of driverless cars. Bus, taxi and train drivers would be made redundant. When my waitressing shift(轮班) ended, I began what I like to call my “second 41 ”: watching videos on Instagram and TikTok, feeding my appetite for more and more. I wanted my life to be like the ideal lives of those I 42 online. Then I'd head to bed at 3 am. Notifications warning me that my screen time had 43 didn't stop me from repeating the same routine.    It was clearly not healthy and most of the time I just ended up feeling empty. I wanted to 44 .    I thought of my mother. She spent her 45 in the farming village of Lebanon while mine was in the US. I wanted to know about the 46 between her life at 18 and mine. I asked for her stories.    Every day, my mother walked 2 miles to fetch water for the whole family. And she spent the rest of the day cleaning and cooking. “Didn't you feel 47 by that hard work?” I asked. “Yes, the work troubled me sometimes! 48 , I realized that my family needed my help, so I helped,” she said. My mother told me that after her first shift was over, she knew 49 how to arrange the second. Her life seemed busy, but 50 and amazingly well balanced.    I was impressed. What I learned from my mom is that getting what we want might not 51 us the way we hope—that doing what excites you at the moment isn't as important as doing what 52 . I enjoy watching TikTok more than serving customers, but serving pays, so it should be of first 53 .    Now I've learned my priorities and stopped feeling 54 . After that, the movie Tai-Chi Master, 57 (star) Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh, was shown on the spot.    Taiji, thought of 58 a treasure of traditional Chinese culture, enjoys a worldwide reputation for its philosophical ideas like harmony between man and nature and co-existence of all things. In 2020, Taijiquan, based on Taiji philosophy and integrating traditional Chinese health-keeping and battle wisdom, 59 (add) to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.    Yu Jiajian, president of the European Tai Chi Cultural Center, performed Yang-style Taiji Saber(刀) on-site. Though the movement 61 (be) soft and stable, it was full of inner power.    Fei Shengchao, the Chinese Ambassador to Belgium, who attended 62 event, said that Taiji integrated knowledge 63 practice from multiple fields. Its core ideas had offered Eastern wisdom to 64 (globe) ecological civilization construction. He hoped the occasion would provide a platform for Belgian Taiji enthusiasts 65 (display) their skills and communicate, enhancing local people's understanding of Taiji culture.  56. 57. 58. 59. 60.      61. 62. 63. 64. 65. Dear fellow students, With the wide application of various digital gadgets, the Internet is finding its way into our daily life. I grew up in a small town where the primary school was a 10-minute walk from my house and children could go home for lunch with their waiting mothers. At the time, I did not consider this a luxury(奢侈), although today it certainly would be. I took it for granted that mothers were the sandwich-makers, the finger-painting appreciators and the homework monitors. I never questioned that this ambitious, intelligent woman, who had had a career before I was born and would eventually return to a career, would spend almost every lunch hour throughout my primary school years just with me. I only knew that when the noon bell rang, I would race breathlessly home. My mother would be standing at the top of the stairs, smiling down at me with a look that suggested I was the only important thing she had in her mind. One lunchtime, when I was in the third grade, would stay with me always. I had been picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had patiently rehearsed(排练) my lines with me. But no matter how easily I acted them at home, as soon as I stepped onto the stage, every word disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had written a narrator's part(旁白员的角色) for the play, and asked me to switch roles. Her words, while kindly delivered, still stung(刺痛) me, especially when I saw my part go to another girl. I didn't tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed my unease, and instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard. It was a lovely spring day and under the huge trees, we could see yellow dandelions(蒲公英) popping through the grass in bunches. I watched my mother bend down and pull a blossom up by its roots. She turned to me and said, “I think I'm going to dig up all these weeds(杂草). Then we'll have only roses in this garden.” “But I like dandelions,” I protested. “All flowers are beautiful—even dandelions.” My mother looked at me seriously. “Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn't it?” she asked thoughtfully. “And the same is true of people,” she added. “Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no shame in that. Now, let's go inside and talk about the lines.” Just a few minutes before the play,my teacher came over to me.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 After the play,I took the flower home. 1.A 2.B 3.C 4.A 5.A 6.C 7.B 8.A 9.A 10.C 11.C 12.C 13.B 14.A 15.C 16.A 17.B 18.B 19.B 20.A 21.C 22.B 23.D 24.B 25.C 26.D 27.A 28.B 29.D 30.A 31.C 32.C 33.B 34.D 35.A 36.B 37.E 38.F 39.C 40.A 41.A 42.D 43.B 44.C 45.A 46.D 47.C 48.B 49.A 50.D 51.B 52.C 53.A 54.C 55.B 56.where 57.starring 58.as 59.was added 60.toughness 61.was 62.the 63.and 64.global 65.to display 第二部分 阅读 第一节 A ◎语篇解读 除了居里夫人以外,还有一些诺贝尔奖女性得主。 根据第二段中的“Undset received the Nobel Prize in 1928 for her powerful description of life...she wrote two huge novels...” 根据第四段中的“Born in 1906”和“she shared the 1963 Nobel Prize in Physics”可知, Maria Goeppert-Mayer获得诺贝尔物理学奖时是57岁。 根据文章最后一句“Her work on mapping vitamin B12 earned her the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1964.” 故选A。 根据最后一段中的“the researchers also found that the breathing rates of the individual fish vary and some of them breathe more slowly or faster than others”可知,每条鱼的呼吸频率存在差异。 故选A。 通读全文,尤其是第一段第三句“Researchers have used camera technology combined with AI to measure and analyze the breathing rate of individual fish, which provides them with valuable information about fish well-being.” 所以画线词与unwanted(不需要的)意思接近。 根据最后一段中的“but it's only a matter of time before they'll become more affordable”可知,作者认为无人驾驶汽车迟早会变得便宜。故选A。 41.A 根据前文“When my waitressing shift ended”和“second”可知,此处指刷视频像“第二次轮班”,“second shift”是一种比喻,呼应前文,后文“My mother told me that after her first shift was over...how to arrange the second.” 故选A。 42.D 根据前文“watching videos on Instagram and TikTok”可知,这里指在Instagram 和 TikTok 上“关注”的人,用followed最准确(社交媒体的常用表达)。故选D。 43.B 根据前文“Then I'd head to bed at 3 am. Notifications warning me that my screen time”可知,作者看视频看到凌晨三点,手机通知通常会在屏幕使用时间“增加”时提醒用户,这里指刷视频时间过长。故选B。 44.C 根据前文“It was clearly not healthy and most of the time I just ended up feeling empty.” 45.A 根据后文“between her life at 18 and mine”可知,描述的是18岁时的事,所以是“青年时期”。故选A。 46.D 根据后文“I asked for her stories.” 47.C 根据前文“Every day, my mother walked 2 miles to...And she spent the rest of the day cleaning and cooking.” 故选A。 50.D 根据前文“I realized that my family needed my help, so I helped”可知,母亲要做很多事,但是能帮助家庭,所以是“充实的”,强调她尽管辛苦,但内心满足。 52.C 根据后文“I enjoy watching TikTok more than serving customers, but serving pays”可知,做让你此刻兴奋的事情并不像做“要紧”的事情那样重要。故选C。 53.A 根据前文“that doing what excites you at the moment isn't as important as...” 故选A。 54.C 根据前文“I just ended up feeling empty.” 55.B 根据前文“Her life seemed busy, but...amazingly well balanced.” 设空处无提示词,分析句子可知,“ 56 five Belgian Taiji associations took turns to perform on stage”为非限制性定语从句,先行词为the event “Taiji: The Unity of All Life”,将先行词还原到定语从句中为“five Belgian Taiji associations took turns to perform on stage at the event ‘Taiji: The Unity of All Life’”,即关系词在定语从句中作地点状语。故填where。 think of...as... 故填as。 故填was added。 故填was。 此处特指上文提到的the event “Taiji: The Unity of All Life”,需用定冠词。故填the。 “display their skills and communicate”是“provide a platform for Belgian Taiji enthusiasts”的目的,设空处应用动词不定式作目的状语。故填to display。 One possible version: Dear fellow students,    With the wide application of various digital gadgets, the Internet is finding its way into our daily life. However, along with its advantages come many problems, among which Internet addiction is becoming increasingly severe, thus raising worldwide concern.    Internet addiction is likely to cause damage physically and psychologically. Internet addicts whose eyes are glued to screens too long may lead to their eyesight failing. Worse still, some of them tend to get lost in the virtual world and entirely ignore the real one. As for students, their academic performance may suffer a dramatic drop as a consequence of heavy addiction. Given the current severe situation, I strongly appeal to every student to use the Internet properly and responsibly. We are supposed to be the master of the Internet instead of the slave to it. The Students' Union  第二节 One possible version: Just a few minutes before the play,my teacher came over to me. “A dandelion from your mom! You like dandelions?” my teacher asked, handing me the flower. I nodded with a wide smile, saying, “It's special!” It was like a small umbrella, soft and light. Its white head was so vulnerable that a gentle touch could damage it. “Every flower gives pleasure in its own way.” My mother's words brought me comfort. Putting the flower into my blouse pocket, I could feel the warmth it brought. Holding my head high, I started my performance confidently. After the play,I took the flower home. Mother was standing there smiling down at me. Eagerly, I walked to her and took out the flower slowly. No matter how cautious I was, the flower still went out of shape, leaving a bare stem. Seeing how sad this made me, Mother smiled at me, “It's really a weed now.” I couldn't help laughing. In that spring, flowers were bringing pleasure in their own way and so were weeds. And they would do so forever.
