And studies have revealed that being glued to screens and social media too long may increase feelings of anxiety and sadness. However, according to a new study, for older adults, properly using the Internet might bring many benefits and should perhaps be encouraged. Researchers from Hong Kong investigated the effects of using the Internet on the mental health of adults aged over 50. Data from more than 87,500 people in 23 countries was used in the study. The study found that using the Internet was connected with fewer symptoms(症状) of sadness or depression(抑郁), greater life satisfaction, and ameliorated self-reported health. When researchers looked at the data from people in the US, England, and China in a little more detail, they discovered that the increased use of the Internet was connected with better mental health. Interestingly, they found that certain groups of older adults benefited more from the use of the Internet than others. For example, older adults who did fewer social activities or took part in less physical exercise experienced greater positive effects. Similarly, people with disabilities and those with higher education levels also got stronger benefits. The positive effects were stronger among people who used the Internet every day. The researchers stressed that the Internet can be an excellent place for older adults to learn new things, connect with others, and access important services and information. They described the Internet as a cheap and effective way to improve older adults' mental health, especially those who live outside towns and cities. For these individuals, the Internet can make it easier to access resources and social opportunities that may be difficult to reach. This shows that the Internet is not only a tool for communication but also a valuable resource for supporting mental well-being among older populations. 1.How does overusing the Internet affect young people's mental health? A.It damages their physical condition. B.It brings them happiness and benefits. C.It makes them feel worried and unhappy. D.It helps them stay connected with others. 2.What does the underlined word “ameliorated” in paragraph 2 mean? A.Proved. B.Improved. C.Cured. D.Affected. 3.What did researchers find from the study? A.More older adults surfed online than younger ones. B.Many countries encouraged people to use computers. C.Using the Internet promoted all people's physical health. D.Using the Internet is good for some groups of older adults. 4.How does the Internet benefit older adults in rural areas? A.It helps them save money. B.It keeps them physically active. C.It improves their mental health. D.It allows them to travel more easily. Ⅱ.七选五 (2024江苏连云港期中) Do you really need a new mobile phone every 2 years? If you're looking to replace or upgrade your smartphone in the coming year, think it over. 1 Do you simply have the desire to get the new, shiny technology? There are some issues to consider besides the new device's affordability.    Our desire to always have the newest smartphone comes at a high environmental cost. According to Swappie, which repairs and resells iPhones, 1.4 billion new smartphones forecast to be shipped this year will generate 146 million tons of planet-warming emissions. 2      What can you do? Resist the desire to upgrade your smartphone. If your phone still works, get as much life as you can out of it. “The greenest smartphone is the one you already own,” Stratton said. Get it fixed. If your phone breaks, get it repaired directly by the manufacturer or take it to a store to repair your phone brand. 3      Sell it instead of throwing it. You can sell your used smartphone to specialized repair companies like Swappie to give it a second life. 4 This is due to the materials used to produce them.     5 If your phone is completely broken and cannot be sold, you can still recycle it. You just need to do a little bit of research into how and where to correctly recycle it.  A.Make it function. B.Recycle it properly. C.Do you really need a new phone? D.Broken phones can still be valuable. E.Where can you get a new smartphone? F.83% of them come from producing, shipping and first-year usage. G.A broken or out-of-order phone can often be fixed through easy repairs. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.      Ⅲ.完形填空 (2025浙江S9联盟期中) Disappointingly, my funny summer vacation was completely ruined last year by an advanced device: the iPad.
