Living on the edge of Nairobi National Park in Kenya, Richard Turere doesn't like lions. He first became responsible for safeguarding his family's cattle when he was just nine. But often, his valuable livestock(家畜) would be attacked suddenly by the lions, leaving him to count the losses.
“I grew up hating lions very much,” says Richard. “They used to come at night and feed on our cattle when we were sleeping.” So, at the age of 11, Richard decided it was time to find a way of protecting his family's cows, goats and sheep from being hunted by hungry lions.
His light bulb moment came with one small observation. One day, when he was walking around, he discovered that the lions were scared of the moving light. He realized that lions dared not approach the farm when someone was walking around with a flashlight. He put his young mind to work and a few weeks later he came up with a creative, simple and low-cost system to scare them away.
He fitted a series of flashing LED bulbs onto poles around the livestock enclosure(围场), making them face outward. The lights were wired to a box with switches and to an old car battery powered by a solar panel. They were designed to flash on and off constantly, thus tricking the lions into believing that someone was moving around carrying a flashlight.
And it worked. Since Richard set up his “Lion Lights”, his family has not lost any livestock to the wild beasts, to the great delight of his father and astonishment of his neighbors. He then fitted the lights for his neighbors and six other homes in his community. From then on, the lights spread and are now being used all around Kenya. In Zambia and Tanzania his “Lion Lights” are being used, as well.
What's even more impressive is that Richard invented and installed(安装) the whole system by himself, without ever receiving any training in electronics or engineering.

C.Lions always affected his sleep at night. D.He thought lions were dangerous for humans.

A.He learned it from his neighbors.
B.He got it from a scientific experiment.
C.He noticed lions were afraid of moving lights.
D.He was impressed by a similar device he saw before.
3.What can we infer about Richard's “Lion Lights”?
A.They cost him a lot of money. B.They are installed by workers.
C.They have been used in most African countries. D.They make lions think there are people around.
4.Which of the following can best describe Richard Turere?
A.Generous and energetic. B.Talented and warmhearted.
C.Intelligent and humorous. D.Productive and knowledgeable.

Faced with a declining population and workforce, Japan has been increasingly turning to robots for help. Over the years, the robots have carried out a large number of human tasks, including building products and providing care for the elderly.
However, the robots currently being used by companies, like Walmart and Amazon, are only able to perform single, repetitive tasks, such as stacking boxes. Model-T has a wider range of movement and is able to hold, pick and place objects of several different shapes and sizes into different locations, making it ideal for convenience and grocery stores, which sell a large variety of items.
Model-T robots are operated from a distant location by human “pilots” wearing a virtual reality (VR) headset and special gloves, which allow them to feel the product the robot is holding in its hands and guide it to the right shelf.
The VR-controlled robots are ten times cheaper than automated robots, because they don't require advanced programming and are easier to develop and maintain. And their easy-to-use controls require little training. Tomohiro Kano, a general manager in charge of development at FamilyMart, believes that this will enable the chain to recruit workers who would typically not work in stores.
Though Model-T appears to be getting rapidly through the experiments, it is not quite ready to enter the workforce. Besides being a lot slower than humans, it is also only able to lift packaged items, and cannot get hold of things such as fruits and vegetables. The company is working to improve the weaknesses and hopes to introduce a faster, more skillful Model-T robot within the next two years. They believe that in addition to the stores, the robots could also be useful in hospitals, allowing doctors to do operations from remote locations.
5.What is one of the features of Model-T according to the text?
A.It works much faster than humans.
B.It can easily hold all kinds of objects.
C.It can be operated from a distance.
D.It is harder to produce than an automated robot.
6.What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 4 refer to?
A.The low price of Model-T. B.The easiness to operate Model-T.
C.The low-level programming of Model-T. D.The strict training in maintaining Model-T.
7.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Model-T is now being massively produced.
B.Japan's workforce will be reduced by Model-T.
C.The weaknesses of Model-T have been overcome.
D.Model-T may be used in wider fields in the future.
8.In which section of a website can we read this text?
A.Technology. B.Economy. C.Lifestyle. D.Environment.

根据第三段中“One day, when he was walking around, he discovered...when someone was walking around with a flashlight.”
根据第四段中“They were designed to flash on and off constantly, thus tricking the lions into believing that someone was moving around carrying a flashlight.”
根据第三段中“he came up with a creative, simple and low-cost system to scare them away”及最后一段可知,Richard自己想出了一个有创意、简单且低成本的系统,没有接受过任何电子学或工程学方面的培训就独自设计并安装了整个系统,这体现了他是有天赋的(talented);根据倒数第二段中“He then fitted the lights for his neighbors and six other homes in his community.” A.

根据第三段中“Model-T robots are operated from a distant location by human ‘pilots’ wearing a virtual reality (VR) headset and special gloves”可知, Model-T机器人由戴着虚拟现实视图器和特殊手套的人类“飞行员”在远处操作。
根据画线词上文“And their easy-to-use controls require little training.”
根据最后一段中“They believe that in addition to the stores, the robots could also be useful in hospitals, allowing doctors to do operations from remote locations.”
故选A。
