B Novelist and screenwriter Hanif Kureishi remembers only bits and pieces of the day in 2022 when his life changed forever. He recalls being sick with a stomach infection and starting to feel faint (昏眩) and then his memory got unclear. Looking back, Kureishi says, he wanted to stand up to walk, but then fell flat on his face, breaking his neck. Kureishi says when he woke up, he was in a pool of blood. He could speak, but he was unable to move his hands or other parts of his body. He spent a year in hospital before he was able to return home, where he was assisted by 24-hour caregivers. “In the beginning, there was a lot of anger,” he says. “Your ordinary life was taken away from you by an illness—as will happen to so many of us—you are absolutely angry. And you become angry with the people around you. You become angry at your life.” Kureishi was nominated (提名) for an Oscar for his screenplay of the 1985 film My Beautiful Laundrette. He went on to more films and books, including the 1990 novel The Buddha of Suburbia. Kureishi started writing his new life story, Shattered, just days after the break by dictating (口述) the story to his wife and his son. In it, he describes being completely dependent on others, feeling helpless and ashamed. But he says writing about his condition also gives him purpose. Even though he can't use his fingers to hold something or pick up a pen or anything like that, he is writing a blog every single day about his condition. He feels stronger than he was. Now he is writing another book. He is very excited about what he is doing, and he gets up in the morning and looks forward to the day, thinking what he is going to do today and whether it is going to be exciting. 24.What happened to Kureishi in 2022? A.He lost his memory. B.He suffered an accident. C.He had his face broken. D.He got a sudden stomachache. 25.How did Kureishi adapt to writing after losing the ability to move? A.The prize he won inspired him. B.He learned to type with his feet. C.He got support from his family. D.He hired a responsible caregiver. 26.Which of the following best describes Kureishi? A.Bitter and defeated. B.Productive and carefree. C.Fearful and disheartened. D.Strong-willed and adaptable. 27.What does writing mean to Kureishi? A.Inspiring work. B.A miserable mission. C.An escape from life. D.A tough job. C Sweden is so good at recycling that, for several years, it has imported rubbish from other countries to keep its recycling plants going. Less than 1% of Swedish household waste was sent to landfills(垃圾填埋场) last year or any year since 2011. We can only dream of such an effective system in the UK, which is why we end up paying expensive transport costs to send rubbish to be recycled overseas rather than paying fines to send it to landfills under the Landfill Tax Regulations 1996. Sweden has a culture of looking after the environment. “We Swedish people are aware of what we need to do on environmental issues. We worked on communication for long to make people not throw things outdoors so that we can recycle and reuse them,” says Anna-Carin Gripwall, director of Avfall Sverige, the Swedish Waste Management and Recycling Association. Over time, Sweden has carried out a national recycling policy so that even though private companies undertake most of the business of importing and burning waste, the energy goes into a national heating network to heat homes through the freezing Swedish winter. However, some people argue that the country is escaping real recycling. Paper plant managers say wood fiber can be used up to six times before it becomes dust. If Sweden burns paper before that point, it's exhausting the potential for true recycling and replacing used paper with fresh raw material. Ms. Gripwall describes Sweden's policy of importing waste to recycle from other countries as a temporary situation. “There's a ban on landfill in EU countries, so instead of paying the fine, they send it to us as a service. They should and will build their own plants, to reduce their own waste, as we're doing in Sweden,” Ms. Gripwall says. 28.Why is a low amount of household waste sent to landfills in Sweden? A.A little bit of household waste is produced here. B.Its people get waste recycled at home. C.Much rubbish is imported overseas. D.They have good public environmental awareness. 29.What measure is taken in the UK to deal with waste according to the text? A.An effective recycling system is adopted. B.People are encouraged to sell rubbish abroad. C.People are forbidden to send waste to landfills. D.An increasing number of landfills are being built. 30.What can we infer about Sweden's recycling system? A.It's being spread around the world. B.It's also thought to have some shortcomings. C.It's so perfect to receive good evaluations. D.It solves the problems with the local energy. 31.What opinion does Ms. Gripwall hold according to the text? A.It's partly wrong to import rubbish from other countries. B.The technology of handling waste will be developed widely. C.It's possible to completely solve all environmental problems. D.All countries should work together to protect the environment. D The wildfires damaging parts of Australia can be seen from space in new satellite images released by NASA. Australia's capital, Canberra, was enveloped in a smoky haze Sunday and air quality at midday was measured at 10 times the usual dangerous limit. “The damaging fires have killed at least 24 people in Australia and destroyed almost 2,000 houses. The early and damaging start of Australia's summer wildfires, fed by drought and the country's hottest and driest year on record, has also been catastrophic(灾难性的) for the country's wildlife, likely killing nearly 500 million birds, reptiles and mammals in New South Wales alone,” ecologist Chris Dickman of the University of Sydney told The Sydney Morning Herald.  Under such extreme conditions, the fires have been generating enough heat to create their own weather systems, including fire-generated thunderstorms and fire tornadoes. Thousands of firefighters continued to fight the flames that have burned millions of acres in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, an area twice the size of Maryland. In New South Wales, the Rural Fire Service (RFS) said as of Sunday there were 150 fires in the state, 64 of them uncontrolled. On Saturday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that, for the first time in Australian history, 3,000 army, navy and air force reservists(后备军战士) will battle against the fires. He also committed$14 million to hiring the fire-fighting aircraft from overseas. On Sunday, cooler temperatures and lighter winds brought some relief to threatened communities, a day after thousands of people were forced to escape as flames reached the suburban areas of Sydney. Thousands of firefighters fought to contain the fires, but many fires continued to burn out of control, threatening to wipe out rural townships and causing almost incalculable damage to buildings and wildlife. 32.What does the underlined phrase “fed by” in Paragraph 1 mean? A.Get food from someone. B.Be strengthened by something. C.Be destroyed by something. D.Under control of something. 33.Why were there thunderstorms and tornadoes? A.Because the fires generated thunderstorms and tornadoes. B.Because there was rainy weather. C.Because the fires generated enough heat to create extreme weather. D.Because the weather system is easy to change. 34.What can we learn from the last paragraph? A.Many soldiers will fight against the fires as they have done before. B.Fires were controlled due to cooler temperatures and lighter winds. C.A lot of people moved out of the suburban areas. D.Damage to buildings and wildlife is limited. 35.What would be the best title for this passage? A.Australia's destructive wildfires B.Soldiers fought against the fires C.Wildlife died from the fires D.Australia's wildfires were under control 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Some people put their bicycles away once they learn how to drive a car, while some others don't. 36 Serious cyclists often arrange to take part in races.  One kind of race is the time trial. Each racer leaves the starting line at a different time and heads hard for the finish line. The cyclist who covers the distance in the shortest amount of time wins the race. A time trial is a very safe race for beginners. 37   Another kind of race is more difficult. A few city blocks are closed to traffic. Then all the racers line up in a tight pack and begin racing at the same time. They cover many laps(一圈) going around and around the city blocks. 38 It also requires skillful handling of the bicycle as it runs at full speed around other bicycles. The racer who completes all the laps first is the winner.   39 Racers have to cover anywhere from 35 miles to almost 3,000 miles. The race course may be a straight stretch of road or a long series of roads across the country. The prize goes to the first person who crosses the finish line.  Between races cyclists stay in good condition by doing exercise that builds up their strength so that they can keep riding for long periods of time. As cyclists become more experienced, they often join bicycling groups and become licensed racers. 40 If you're a cyclist, keep practicing. You could become a star.   A.The race requires more than speed. B.Only experienced cyclists can enter the race. C.For them, bicycling is actually an exciting sport. D.Road races are usually the longest cycling contests. E.Then they can enter special races all over the country. F.Cyclists still need to build themselves up for those races. G.The bicycles are spread out and are not likely to run into each other. 36. 37. 38. 39. 40.     第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 One morning when I was visiting a poor woman, I noticed her dog was suffering from a terrible case of mange(兽疥癣). The aim of the day is 57 (raise) awareness of the environment and specific environmental issues.  World Environment Day 58 (found) in 1972 but first held in 1974, 59 shows that the concern about the environment goes back several decades at least. I stood in the living room doorway, absolutely shocked. I heard her singing when I opened the door but did not want to interrupt her by shouting that I had arrived. She was wearing beautiful dancing shoes and her legs obeyed her perfectly. As long as I could remember, she was once the pet of the dancing world. But it was all over after a sudden accident. She had always limped(一瘸一拐地走), helped by a cane(拐杖). She turned around and saw me standing in the doorway. Her song ended, and her beautiful movements ended with it. Grandma turned towards the kitchen. She was walking with no difficulties in her beautiful shoes. I followed her, not believing my eyes. “So...” I asked surprisedly but happily, “how did your leg heal(康复)?” “To tell you the truth—my leg has been well all my life,” she said. “But I don't understand!” I said. “I mean, you have pretended all these years?” “Very much so,” Grandma closed her eyes, “and for a very good reason.” “What reason?” “Your grandfather.” “You mean he told you not to dance?” “No, this was my choice. I am sure I would have lost him if I had continued dancing. I weighed fame(名声) against love and love won.” “We were talking about the engagement(订婚) when your grandfather had to go to war. It was the most terrible day of my life when he left. I was so afraid of losing him, and the only way I could stay peaceful was to dance. And then one day a letter came. There were only three sentences:‘I have lost my leg. I am no longer a whole man and now give you back your freedom. First, each class worked as a group to select proper plants, and then determined where to plant them and dug deep holes. The following step was to put the plants into the holes. All the participants erupted into cheering immediately the task was done. Not only did we students enjoy the course of planting, but we also set up an intimate relationship with nature, which made us give more concern and love to the environment. 第二节 One possible version: Several weeks later, she returned. She had bought herself a cane and wrapped her leg tightly with bandages. She told everyone she had had a car crash and that her leg would never completely heal again. Her dancing days were over. No one suspected the story—she had learned to limp convincingly before she returned home. Then she traveled to the hospital. She saw my grandfather seated in his wheelchair with a cane on the ground nearby. She took a deep breath, leaned on her cane and limped to Grandfather. She told him she had been in an accident and a leg was injured seriously. She showed him two engagement rings she had bought the day after he left for the war. “I was not going to waste them on any other man,” Grandma said to him. Then Grandfather bent down to take his cane from the ground but Grandma was not going to help. And so he managed it on his own and never sat in a wheelchair again in his life. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ UNIT 8 GREEN LIVING 第一节 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 【Text 1】 W: Jonathan, this weekend I am going to organize my work space. We open at 9:00 am and close at 5:00 pm on weekdays but on Sundays we close two hours earlier. 【Text 3】 W: Ron, your electric kettle looks so smart. It must be very expensive. M: Good eye, Jane. I started throwing up just after having the takeout my boyfriend ordered. M: Don’t worry. I’ll give you a check-up. 【Text 5】 W: What is that?! It smells like spoiled fish! M: My roommate taught me to make it. It’s really good. W: That’s true. But the book says snakes, poisonous or not, are very good food for people to eat. M: Interesting. But I guess I don’t have the courage to taste them. W: It also points out that snakes can be good medicine. For example, poison from snakes is now very useful to treat certain diseases. And long before Chinese people used snake skin to kill tooth pain while European people used snake cream to treat burns. M: I will still keep far away from them. 听下面一段对话,回答第11至第13三个小题。现在,你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。 【Text 8】 W: Hello, ladies and gentlemen. Today we have invited Prof. Stone to talk about the role of elderly people in our society. Welcome to our show, Prof. Stone. M: Thanks. To begin with, I’d like to tell a story from my own life. Several years ago, when my grandparents were well into their eighties, they were no longer able to care for themselves very well. My grandfather was afraid of leaving the only home they had lived for the past 60 years. The idea of having to sell their home and move into a retirement home was an extremely painful experience for them. Indeed, old age for them and many older Americans can mean not only the possible failure of one’s health but the loss of identity and self-worth. W: Yes, it’s true. What do you have to say about the problem of old age? M: Many experts have given talks here that have focused on the medical care and the development of public services for senior citizens. Today, I’d like to focus my comments on the meaningful roles the elderly can play and should play in our society. 听下面一段对话,回答第14至第17四个小题。现在,你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。 【Text 9】 M: Hello, Professor Smith, I’m John Wishart. I’m working on the Global Design Competition. My teacher said you might be able to help me. W: Ah, yes, I got a copy of your drawings. What sort of competition is it? M: Well, the Global Design Competition requires competitors to come up with a new design for a kitchen device. W: I see, and are there any special conditions? Does it have to save energy for example? M: Actually, that was the focus in last year’s competition. This year’s different. We have to adopt a novel approach to existing technology. W: I understand. So what kitchen device have you chosen? M: Well, I chose the dishwasher. W: Interesting. Why? M: Well, they’re an everyday kitchen device in most Australian houses but they all look similar. I think people will be prepared to pay a little more money for something different. W: Good idea. I saw you’ve called your design “the Rockpool”. Why is that? M: Basically, that’s because it looks like the rock pools you find on a beach. The top is made of glass so that you can look down into it. 听下面一段独白,回答第18至第20三个小题。现在,你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。 【Text 10】 M: Marie Curie loved to study and hoped to become a scientist from her early childhood. Her interest in science was encouraged by her father, who was a teacher of physics. In 1891, she left Poland and entered the University of Paris. Four years later, she graduated with the highest grade in her class. Then, she remained in the same university doing scientific research work. In order to discover something that gave off a kind of radiation, she did some experiments carefully again and again. Finally in 1902 she and her husband succeeded in finding the radioactive element radium. Their achievement won them the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1903. In 1911, she won another Nobel Prize, all by herself in chemistry. Thus she became the first female scientist to win two Nobel Prizes. 1 / 4 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
