I remember once she told me that she had done nothing to prepare for a meeting, but she pulled it off, because she collected all the key information she needed in a short time.

17. What did the speaker mostly manage to do last year?
A. Keep her fitness goal. B. Develop a reading habit. C. Finish a screen-time report.
18. What does the speaker find difficult?
A. Staying on her phone. B. Giving up social media. C. Meeting a nice stranger.
19. Why do we start a new habit on New Year’s Day according to the research?
A. We make progress quickly. B. We treat the purpose lightly. C. We tend to stick to it easily.
20. What does the speaker mainly talk about?
A. New Year’s challenges. B. New Year’s resolutions. C. New Year’s celebrations.
A 18. B 19. C 20. B
W: Are New Year’s resolutions powerful or pointless? Almost every year of my life, I’ve started the New Year with a set of resolutions that I’ve been determined to keep. The results, predictably, have been variable. Last year, I mostly kept to my fitness goal of doing 20-minute sports each day, but I failed miserably at my aim of quitting social media. According to my weekly screen-time reports, I still spend between two and three hours each day on my phone. I am far from alone in my determination to start each new year with a plan for self-improvement.
Rationally speaking, January 1st should be no better than any other day to make a life change. So why put the needless pressure on ourselves to “upgrade” our lives at the opening of a new calendar? Recent psychological research, however, suggests that there are many good reasons to begin a new habit on the first day of a new year. That’s because we can all increase our chances of sticking to our new goals for the new year.
A
Over the centuries, we have discovered more about our world, and think that everything that could be discovered already has been. But the truth is that the world holds many more secrets waiting to be revealed. Here are four places that have yet to be opened up completely.
The Mariana Trench
The deepest and darkest place in the ocean is the 11000-meter-deep Mariana Trench. Due to cold temperatures and huge water pressure, the deep ocean is totally unfriendly to humans. Although technological advances have led to the discovery of many new varieties of deep-sea animals on the ocean floor, there is a lot more to be learned.
The Amazon rainforest
The Amazon rainforest is said to make up around 50% of all of the rainforests in the world. Interest in its climate and resources has resulted in certain explorations. However, due to the extreme difficulty in getting to and entering the region, full exploration of it has been almost impossible. Up to now, 2.5 million insect species and 400,000 plant species have been officially documented.
Greenland
About 81% of Greenland is covered in ice, so it is almost completely unpopulated. Greenland has only been explored to a limited extent, as the climate is quite unsuitable for human life. Although research explorations are currently being carried out, the most interesting research in Greenland might tell us more about the past than the present.
Deserts
It is almost impossible to survive long periods of time in the desert. Thus, desert explorations have frequently had terrible results — many people are known to have died on such explorations. It is unclear whether anything of particular interest would be uncovered by further research into deserts, although there are animal and plant species there which are special.
1. Why is the Amazon rainforest not fully explored?
A. Unclear research results.
B. Difficulty in reaching the region.
C. The unwelcoming environments.
D. Lack of interest in its climate and resources.
2. Which of the four locations may provide more information of the past?
A. The Mariana Trench. B. The Amazon rainforest.
C. Deserts. D. Greenland.
3. Where is the text probably taken from?
A. A news report. B. A club poster.
C. A book review. D. A science magazine.

For Li Donglin, an 18-year-old senior high school student, this past summer was all about cultural relic sites. He joined the cultural relics census (普查) team in Huanghua, Hebei, becoming its youngest member. This census is part of the fourth national cultural relics census, which started in November 2023 and is set to end by June 2026. Its goal is to record and get a deep understanding of the conditions of immovable cultural heritage sites, including ancient sites and tombs across the country.
Li’s love for cultural relics began at an early age. Since childhood, he has enjoyed collecting things and now has over 100 cultural artifacts Li also has repaired many artifacts, improving this skill by learning from all kinds of sources.
Despite his strong connection to ancient artifacts, this was his first time taking part in a cultural relics census. “I thought at first that the census was just about visiting sites and doing a simple investigation,” Li told Teens. However, the census work turned out to be quite opposite. In the investigation of cultural relics, measuring areas is a major task. To provide a better description of the ancient village site in Changguo Town in Huanghua, the team had to walk a long way to work out the site’s boundaries (边界). In the hot summer sun, Li made his way through overgrown corn fields to identify the boundaries in all directions, often walking up to 30,000 steps per day.
During these walks, he also needed to do some digging. “After digging, we examined the soil to find any signs of cultural relics,” Li said. “This step is key to making sure we get the boundaries right and don’t miss any relics.” Then, the team used special tools to work out the site’s total area.
“It is hard work, but being able to describe each site so that each site receives the most protection makes us very happy,” Li said.
4. What is the purpose of the national cultural relics census?
A. To build a national register of cultural relics.
B To promote tourism in historical sites nationwide.
C. To train young students in simple investigation skills.
D. To identify the most valuable historical sites nationwide.
5. How was the census work different from Li Donglin’s first thought?
A. It required working in corn fields B. It was far more demanding
C. It needed special tools to measure areas D. It was more interesting than expected
6. What is Li Donglin like?
A. Skilled and curious. B. Patient and generous
C. Determined and careful D. Concerned and courageous.
7. What is the best title of the text?
A. 18-Year-Old Teenager leads Cultural Relics Survey
B. High Schooler Joins National Cultural Relics Census
C. Teenager’s Summer Adventure in Architecture Design
D. Young Collector’s Journey of Hometown Promotion
A 5. B 6. C 7. B

根据第三段““I thought at first that the census was just about visiting sites and doing a simple investigation,” Li told Teens. However, the census work turned out to be quite opposite. In the investigation of cultural relics, measuring areas is a major task. To provide a better description of the ancient village site in Changguo Town in Huanghua, the team had to walk a long way to work out the site’s boundaries (边界). In the hot summer sun, Li made his way through overgrown corn fields to identify the boundaries in all directions, often walking up to 30,000 steps per day.(李告诉《青少年》杂志:“起初我以为这次普查只是去一些地方进行简单的考察而已。”然而,实际情况却与预期大相径庭。在对文物的调查中,测量面积是一项重要任务。为了更准确地描述黄骅市常郭镇的古代村落遗址,团队不得不跋涉很长一段距离来确定遗址的边界。在炎热的夏日阳光下,李穿梭于杂草丛生的玉米地之间,从各个方向丈量边界,每天往往要走多达3万步)”可知,这次文物普查的工作要求要高得多。故选B。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“In the hot summer sun, Li made his way through overgrown corn fields to identify the boundaries in all directions, often walking up to 30,000 steps per day.(在炎热的夏日阳光下,李穿梭于杂草丛生的玉米地之间,从各个方向丈量边界,每天往往要走多达3万步)”以及倒数第二段““After digging, we examined the soil to find any signs of cultural relics,” Li said. “This step is key to making sure we get the boundaries right and don’t miss any relics.”(李说:“在挖掘完成后,我们会对土壤进行检测,以寻找任何文物的痕迹。这一环节至关重要,它能确保我们准确划定边界,不会遗漏任何文物。”)”可知,李东林是个坚定且细心的人。故选C。
【7题详解】

One of the most important impacts of AI is in the field of education, where tools like ChatGPT have already begun to change how students learn and teachers teach. But as AI develops, a new player is entering the scene: DeepSeek.
DeepSeek is not just another AI tool — it’s an intelligent platform designed to address the unique needs of the education field. One of the biggest challenges in education is meeting the diverse learning needs of students. DeepSeek can analyze individual learning patterns and adapt contents accordingly. For example, if a student struggles with math, DeepSeek can provide personalized exercises and explanations to help them master the concepts. This level of personalization goes beyond what ChatGPT currently offers, making DeepSeek a powerful tool for individualized instruction.
To understand how DeepSeek’s personalization works in practice, consider a real-world example from a high school in California, which uses DeepSeek to address the diverse learning needs of its students. By analyzing performance data, DeepSeek identifies that about 30% of students are struggling with physics. It then provides personalized exercises and video lessons to help these students catch up. Within a few months, the school sees a 20% improvement in physics test scores.
Rather than viewing DeepSeek and ChatGPT as competitors, it’s more reasonable to see them as complementary (互补的) tools. ChatGPT can handle general tasks like answering questions or producing contents, while DeepSeek focuses on specialized educational applications. Together, they can create an all-round AI-powered learning ecosystem.
As we look to the future, one thing is clear: AI tools like DeepSeek and ChatGPT are not just improving education — they’re reshaping it. Whether you’re a student, teacher, or institution, now is the time to embrace these technologies and unlock their full potential (潜能).
8. What is the advantage of DeepSeek over ChatGPT in education?
A. It seeks deeper into resources. B. It provides entertainment content.
C. It meets students’ individual needs. D. It is more popular in American schools.
9. How is paragraph 3 developed?
A. By listing people’s opinions. B. By giving an example.
C. By defining some concepts. D. By making an explanation.
10. What may be the author’s attitude towards DeepSeek and ChatGPT?
A. DeepSeek suits students better. B. They are future competitors.
C. ChatGPT fails to handle tasks. D. They can make up for each other.
11. What does the underlined word “embrace” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A. Accept. B. Control C. Teach. D. Improve.
C 9. B 10. D 11. A

The number of young children who are obese (肥胖的) or extremely obese is going down, according to a new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This is the first national study to suggest that obesity among preschoolers may have begun to decline.
To understand the finding, it helps to know how obesity is defined. Health experts determine whether an adult is obese by the height/weight ratio called the body mass index (BMI). In adults, someone with a BMI of 30 or higher is considered obese. However, determining whether a child is obese is more complex (复杂的). If a child’s BMI falls at or above the 95th percentile for age and sex, the child is considered obese. A child whose BMI is at or above 120 percent of the 95th percentile is considered extremely obese. Or, as Heidi Blanck, one of the study’s authors, explains: “A three-year-old boy who is 37.7 inches tall and weighs 37 pounds would be considered obese. If that same boy weighs 44 pounds or more, he would be considered extremely obese.
Obesity rates among preschoolers rose sharply in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In 1998, about 13% of children aged 2 — 4 were obese, and less than 2% were extremely obese. The problem became worse and reached its highest point in 2003. That year, 15.21% of children aged 2 — 4 were obese and 2.22% were extremely obese. But in 2010, the obesity rate dropped to 14.94% and the rate of extreme obesity to 2.07%. “We consider this change small but encouraging,” says Blanck.
This new report doesn’t specifically indicate one exact cause for the slight decline in obesity rates, but Sanjay Gupta, lead author of the study, believes growing awareness about childhood obesity among parents, health professionals and communities has played a role. He points out that an increase in breastfeeding may also have worked.
12. What does the underlined word “decline” in the first paragraph mean?
A. Fall. B. Beat.
C. Wave. D. Cheat.
13. Why does the author mention BMI?
A. To explain why children gain weight fast.
B. To highlight a practical treatment program.
C. To show how a child’s obesity is measured.
D. To stress children’s body weight differences.
14. What was the percentage of obese preschoolers in 2010?
A. 13.20%. B. 14.94%.
C. 15.21%. D. 17.01%.
15. What does Gupta intend to say in the last paragraph?
A. Why obesity has increased among children.
B. Why parents’ attitude to health has changed.
C. What helped reduce obesity in preschoolers.
D. What played a key role in children’s growth.
A 13. C 14. B 15. C

The ancient Chinese, like the Greeks and the Romans who would appear after them, prized the ____36____ (quality) of that king of beasts, the lion, ____37____ (see) it as a guardian figure. The most common depiction (描绘) of the lion is the male specimen, and in fact, the role of the male lion — who is otherwise rather lazy, leaving the female lions to shoulder the ____38____ (lion) share of the hunting — is precisely to defend the pride, usually ____39____ (simple) by making his presence felt, often in the form of nothing more than a threatening roar. ___40____ animal seen by the Chinese people stemmed (起源于) from India, but was no less awe-inspiring.
In contrast ____41____ the Dragon Dance, generally the Lion Dance is performed with only 2 dancers, while the Dragon Dance ___42____ (require), at a minimum, 10 dancers. This surely goes a long way to explain ____43____ is called the popularity of the Lion Dance, for the Lion Dance can ____44____ (stage) in even the smallest, most remote village, and in the south of China, ______45______ the majority of China’s various ethnic minorities are concentrated.
36. qualities

故填The。
此处用固定短语in contrast to/with,意为“与……形成对比”。故填to/with。
故填what。
故填be staged。
故填where。

My mum was offered an opportunity to go on a one-year academic visit to the UK. So she took me with her and enrolled me in a local school. In the completely new place, I dared not talk to my classmates because of my English with a Chinese accent. I begged Mum not to put Chinese food in my lunch box in case I was laughed at for eating strange things.
Today, she was busy preparing for my headteacher Ms. May’s home visit and dinner. When I went to help set the dining table, my heart sank: I didn’t smell the baked potatoes or fried steak. “Mum, what happened to the food that I specially listed on Ms. May’s Dinner Menu?” I asked worriedly. “I decided to make some Chinese food.” Mum replied.
Then I saw the kitchen table was covered with plates — steaming dumplings, spicy Kung Pao Chicken, and plates of “scary” chicken feet and pig ears. Even chopsticks were laid out. I was in panic: Ms. May would find these dishes odd and I would be a joke in her eyes.
“It’s a great chance to share our roots.” Mum confidently said. I was about to say something when the doorbell rang. It was too late.
“Nice to have you here, Ms. May!” Mum greeted warmly. “Thank you for inviting me. Li Yu, how are you settling into the new class?” Ms. May asked with a kind smile. I forced a tiny smile back, my mind racing — how would I explain the chicken feet and pig ears?
After a short chat about school, my mother said what I was fearing, “Dinner’s ready!”

We went to the table and I held my breath, waiting for Ms. May’s reaction

We went to the table and I held my breath, waiting for Ms. May’s reaction. Unexpectedly, she stared at the dishes with curiosity and exclaimed, “This looks tasty!” Mum handed her chopsticks gently and explained each dish. Ms. May tried dumplings first, eyes lighting up. Then she praised the rich flavour of Kung Pao Chicken and and even took a bite of chicken feet. My panic faded, replaced by relief as they chatted happily about food cultures.
The next day I excitedly asked Mum to pack Chinese food into my lunch box. She smiled and prepared dumplings and small portions of Beijing duck. At school, I shared my lunch with classmates. To my joy, they loved the taste of the food and asked various questions about Chinese cuisine. No one laughed or showed strange looks. Instead, they surrounded me, curious and eager to learn more. I finally realised my accent and food were not shames, but precious parts of who I was.

Almost every year of my life, i've started the new year with a set of resolutions, but i've been determined to keep the results predictable. Have been variable. Last year, I mostly kept to my fitness goal of doing twenty minutes sports each day, but I failed miserably at my aim of quitting social media. According to my weekly screen time reports, I still spend between two and three hours each day on my phone. I am far from alone in my determination to start each new year with a plan for self improvement. Rationally speaking, january first should be no Better than any other day to make a life change. So why put the needless pressure on ourselves to upgrade our lives at the opening of a new calendar? Recent psychological research, however, suggests that there are many good reasons to begin a new habit on the first day of a new year. That's because we can all increase our chances of sticking to our new goals for the new year. Are new year's resolutions powerful or pointless?
A
Over the centuries, we have discovered more about our world, and think that everything that could be discovered already has been.

A. Accept. B. Control C. Teach. D. Improve.
D
