(1)特殊疑问句(what, when, where, why, who, how; how long, how many, how much, how often, how far, how soon);
(2)一般疑问句;
what 什么;who 谁;when 何时;where 哪里;why 为什么;how 怎样
如:—When did you arrive?
—I arrived at 8 o'clock. / At 8 o'clock.
如:—Why do you want to be a teacher?
—Because I love children.
how old 多大(年龄)
how many 多少(可数名词)
How often does the boy take part in volunteer activities after school?
How many students took part in the park cleaning activity last Saturday morning?
Did the girl help the old people clean their rooms last Sunday morning?
—Yes, she did.
Did the girl help clean the street or hand out posters when she did volunteer work last weekend?
—She helped clean the street.

第一段(开头):简单明了,开门见山,点明写作目的或中心思想,引出下文;
第二段(主体):分 23点阐述具体内容或要点;
(1)表并列:and, both…and…, also, too, as well as, not only…but also…等;
(2)表递进:what’s more, in addition/additionally 等;
(3)表转折:but, yet, however, while, after all, though/even though, in fact 等;

Virtual tours of a museum offer convenience to people like me. I am always busy with work I don’t have time to travel many miles to visit a museum.

—Lulu2025

Reading a good book is a wonderful journey because the reader can live in someone else’s world for a while. Reading together with others, known as buddy (同伴) reading, will make this journey even more fantastic. During the journey, the buddies spend time doing a lot of reading activities. This not only adds to the pleasure of reading, but also deepens their understanding of the books.
Although it is all right to have students join in buddy reading with same-aged schoolmates, schools usually pair up older students with younger ones. In 2021, Green School started such a program and has achieved a great success.
Both younger and older readers in this school have learned a lot from this two-year, program. For example, when they listened to each other, they learned to be kind and patient. This experience also provided them with a chance to practice lifelong skills such as exercising leadership or communicating with others. A student called Jason said that reading to a younger buddy was really helpful. He became more confident, as he knew he was a role model for someone.
The school also became a closer community. The reading buddies felt more connected as they often met each other. The students were always excited when they saw their buddies pass by in the hallway.
Now summer vacation is coming. It’s a great time to get into books. Why not pair up with a friend, choose a book you both like and read it together?

Dreams may make you smart. This was discovered by scientists who do research on dreams.
What is a dream exactly? Scientists explain that during sleep time your brain reviews your experiences in the day. It tries to connect your new experiences with the old memories (记忆). As your brain connects things, it turns them into a story, and then you get a dream.
Dreams may help you deal with worries and fears. What has happened during the day may be painful. While you are sleeping, however, the brain will replay the painful memories in a safe dream space. There the bad memories become less painful. And you will feel better after waking up.
Dreams also seem to be able to help you learn. This idea is supported by a study. So scientists advise you not to stay up all night studying, especially when an exam is coming. They say a sweet dream might help you get higher marks.
Dreams may make you more creative, too. It was reported that a famous songwriter came up with his best song in a dream, and wrote it down as soon as he woke up. However, dreams alone can’t bring about creativity. In fact, the songwriter spent a lot of time thinking about the song before the dream. In a word, hard work matters more for creativity, though dreams also have a role to play.

Do you know a famous novel about ancient Chinese scholars (学者)? It’s The Scholars, written by Wu Jingzi, a great writer from the Qing Dynasty. He noticed many problems among the scholars around him and decided to write this book to show their real lives.
The novel includes many short and meaningful stories. All main characters are scholars who try their best to pass imperial exams for official positions. The most well-known character is Fan Jin. He failed the exam again and again for over 40 years, but finally succeeded one day. He was so happy that he went crazy, which makes readers laugh and think deeply.
Wu Jingzi wrote these stories not just for fun, but to warn people about the scholars’ problems. Obesity (肥胖症) and diabetes (糖尿病) are affecting more young people these days. Many young people share on social media that they got diabetes when they were young. A topic on Sina Weibo about “diabetes starting to trouble young people” has been read over 46 million times.

Passage 8
Mental illness (心理疾病) is rising among children and teenagers in China. Around 30 million Chinese under 17 have experienced mental illness, as People’s Daily reported.
The worldwide picture isn’t hopeful, either. According to the World Health Organization, the number of children with mental illness climbed by 50 percent by 2020. It will be one of the five leading causes of disability and death in children.
However, only about 20 percent of young people with mental illnesses end up getting proper treatment. This is mainly because people think of mental illness as something to be ashamed of and don’t pay enough attention to it, as CCTV News noted.
But without timely treatment, children and teenagers may continue to suffer from mental illness when they become adults, according to Liu Huaqing, a psychologist
Some schools in China are taking action on this illness. In Changsha, several middle schools recently held outdoor activities to improve their students’ mental health. Activities such as “Super Model” helped the students discover their own strengths and develop their self- confidence.

Passage 9
Plastic Pollution: A Silent Killer
Plastic pollution has become one of the most serious threats to our environment. Every year, about 8 million tons of plastic waste flow into the oceans. Animals in the sea suffer the most: For example, sea turtles often mistake plastic bags for jellyfish, and whales have been found dead with stomachs full of plastic. Similarly, seabirds always feed plastic pieces to their chicks.
Even more alarming, tiny plastic particles (微粒) called microplastics (微塑料) enter the food chain. Scientists have found these particles in fish, salt, and even drinking water. That means humans are also at risk. Studies show that microplastics can absorb chemicals and transfer them into the body, potentially affecting human health. Unlike natural materials, plastic takes 450 to 500 years to break down. Although recycling seems like a solution, only 9% of global plastic waste is recycled. The rest ends up in the environment.
To solve this problem, many countries have banned single-use plastics such as shopping bags. However, real change requires collective effort. Simple actions—like using reusable bottles, avoiding using plastic bags, and taking part in beach clean-ups—can reduce plastic waste. Remember, the small choices we make today will shape the future of our planet.
1.How much plastic waste enters the oceans each year?

Recently, a fridge magnet (冰箱贴) inspired by the phoenix coronet (凤冠) of Empress Xiaoduan (孝端皇后) has gone popular on social media, attracting a large number of people to the gift shops of the National Museum of China in Beijing.
The phoenix coronet is one of the museum’s most famous exhibits (展览品), which was once worn by Empress Xiaoduan. It is decorated with nine phoenixes, nine dragons, thousands of pearls and hundreds of rubies and sapphires. This treasure is so important that it can’t be shown abroad.
Over 80,000 magnets have been sold within just three months, helping the museum make over 10 million yuan, said Liao Fei, a worker from the museum, according to a report in Beijing Daily. Inside the museum, it’s common to see visitors carrying bags filled with the fridge magnets.
“These magnets are both beautiful and meaningful,” said a tourist from outside Beijing who arrived at around 7 a.m.
According to the gift shop staff, the magnets are not exclusive (独有的) to the museum, as you can also buy these magnets online, but only a few are available each day.
Across China, museums have introduced cultural and creative products inspired by their collections, with fridge magnets emerging (出现) as the most popular item. As these products become more popular, they help people learn more about the artifacts and museums.
However, staff members of the museums hope that visitors will give more attention to the museums, and understand the profound (深厚的) culture within them, rather than just waiting in a long line, buying some products, taking a few photos and leaving.

I’m John. For me, exams aren’t just about checking what I’ve learned. They’re also a chance to improve my study skills. Here’s how I make full use of every exam.
Before an exam, I review what I’ve learned by looking at the textbook’s table of contents (目录). I also practise different types of questions to prepare for specific topics. In the last 10 minutes before the exam, I do a few simple problems to build up my confidence.
During the exam, I focus on answering each question carefully. I also see it as a chance to practise working under pressure. The time limit and formal (正式的) situation help me improve my test-taking skills. I always plan how to use my time for each part of the exam and decide the best order to answer the questions. With more practice, I’ve found a rhythm (节奏) that works for me because I believe the best way is the one that works best for me.
After the exam, I take time to think about how I did. I look at my mistakes, work out where I went wrong and think about how I managed my time. I like to write down difficult knowledge in a personal “exam book” and read it before the next exam to remind myself of past mistakes and important things. By following these steps, I’ve found that I can get the most out of every exam and keep learning.

In a history class, Mrs. Bartlett asked the students to make a poster in groups. She told the students to write the names of friends they wanted in one group and she would think about their choices.
The next day, Karma was told to be in a group she would never want—the boy who was too weak in English, and the two girls who wore strange clothes. Oh, how she wanted to be with her friends. With tears in her eyes, Karma walked up to Mrs. Bartlett and said that she should be in the “good” group. The teacher
gently (温柔地) placed a hand on Karma’s shoulder. “I know what you want, Karma,” she said. “But your group needs you. I need you to help them. Only you can help them.” Karma was surprised and moved. The teacher’s words encouraged her.
“Will you help them?” the teacher asked. “Yes,” Karma replied. Then she bravely walked over to her group. She sat down and they started. Each of them did a part according to their interests. Halfway through the week, Karma felt herself enjoying her group. They did a good job together. The group members weren’t thought to be excellent just because no one cared enough about them except Mrs. Bartlett.

Ne Zha 2 was released on January 29, 2025. It took the production team more than 5 years to create this masterpiece. The film was a huge success. As of May 5, 2025, Ne Zha 2 has achieved a remarkable box office success. The total global box office revenue (全球票房) has surpassed 15.8 billion yuan and makes it the fifth-highest-grossing film in global box office history.
Jiaozi, whose real name is Yang Yu, is the director of Ne Zha 2. He was born in 1980 in Luzhou, Sichuan, into a family of doctors. He was set to follow the same path. He studied medicine at West China University of Medical Sciences (now West China Medical College of Sichuan University). However, during his college years, he discovered his love for animation when he first touched a 3D animation software called MAYA.This discovery changed his life forever.
After graduation, Jiaozi decided to follow his heart, even though it meant giving up a job as a doctor. He spent three years and eight months creating his first animation short film See Through all by himself. During this time, he lived on his mother’s pension (养老金) of only 1,000 yuan a month. His life was very hard. He had to wear old clothes and eat leftovers. Though he faced many difficulties, he never gave up. He worked day and night, learning new skills and perfecting every detail of his animation. His hard work paid off. See Through won more than 30 international awards and made him well-known in the animation world.
In a recent interview with China Central Television, he expressed deep gratitude for his parents’ support, especially his mother’s patience and understanding. He said that he would not succeed without his mother’s support. He admitted that if he were in her position, he might not have been as accepting.

Huang Xuhua is called “the father of China’s nuclear submarine (核潜艇)”. His story is about quiet dedication (奉献) to national safety.
In 1958, Huang made a life-changing choice. He decided to work on China’s first nuclear submarine. As the project was a top secret, he didn’t even tell his family. His family never knew his real job for 30 years. He once wrote to his parents, “I’m doing important work for our country.” But he couldn’t say more.
Through years of hard work, Huang and his team solved many technical problems with pencils and paper. They worked day and night. When China’s first nuclear submarine sailed successfully in 1970, Huang couldn’t hold back his tears. “I felt like I had just given birth to a child,” he later said. The submarine could travel underwater for months, protecting China’s seas.
Huang’s family finally knew about his job in 1987. Though he missed many family events, his wife said, “We are lonely sometimes, but we know he loves China deeply. We are proud of him.” In 2019, Huang received the Medal of the Republic, the highest national honor in China.
Huang passed away in 2025, but his spirit lives on. Many students visit his old office to miss him. He taught us that true heroes work silently for their country. His story continues to inspire young people to serve the nation with love and courage.

Shadow puppetry (皮影戏), a show of two hands, is about the projection (投射) of light. In the light, the shadow puppet looks lively. The most common shadow puppet is made from the skin of animals. The amazing hands of artists create so many pictures and lines, making the puppetry the artwork that connects fine materials and wonderful skills.
Shadow puppetry is also about the connection of characters. The performers would hold sticks in their hands to move and press to create a set of movements. The audiences (观众) would see the characters showing the ups and downs of a story on a small cloth.
Shadow puppetry is a spring of sounds. In a shadow puppetry show, performers tell their stories with musical tools played in the background. The performers who sing and talk are skilled in singing and playing the instruments.
Shadow puppetry is a mix of colors. The coloring, is a necessary step in making a shadow figure. The “five traditional colors” are a pattern to follow. The most used ones in practice are red, green and black.
The perfect connection of light, sounds, colors, and shadow makes shadow puppetry a colorful performance in Chinese people’s spare time. After entertaining Chinese people for thousands of years, it becomes popular again in the modem environment with movies.

(1)特殊疑问句(what, when, where, why, who, how; how long, how many, how much, how often, how far, how soon);
(2)一般疑问句;
what 什么;who 谁;when 何时;where 哪里;why 为什么;how 怎样
如:—When did you arrive?
—I arrived at 8 o'clock. / At 8 o'clock.
如:—Why do you want to be a teacher?
—Because I love children.
how old 多大(年龄)
how many 多少(可数名词)
How often does the boy take part in volunteer activities after school?
How many students took part in the park cleaning activity last Saturday morning?
Did the girl help the old people clean their rooms last Sunday morning?
—Yes, she did.
Did the girl help clean the street or hand out posters when she did volunteer work last weekend?
—She helped clean the street.

第一段(开头):简单明了,开门见山,点明写作目的或中心思想,引出下文;
第二段(主体):分 23点阐述具体内容或要点;
(1)表并列:and, both…and…, also, too, as well as, not only…but also…等;
(2)表递进:what’s more, in addition/additionally 等;
(3)表转折:but, yet, however, while, after all, though/even though, in fact 等;

You can use different colors and lengths of ropes to make various shapes like butterflies or flowers, which can be used as decorations at home. Secondly, it has rich cultural meanings.

If you find that you or your friends are suffering from mental illness, such as depression (抑郁症), don’t be afraid to tell your parents or teachers about it. They can help you get the proper treatment you need. There is no reason to feel ashamed about your mental health. Help is out there.

___________________________________________________
2.What do seabirds always feed to their chicks?
___________________________________________________
3.Where do the scientists find the particles?

Bartlett.

Have you heard of the saying “Many hands make light work”? Teamwork plays an important role in our life. When we meet difficulties, we can overcome them by pulling together. It can also help team members improve themselves by working together.
Last term, our school held a football match. Eleven students in my class took part in it. It was difficult because the students in our class didn't look strong enough to win the game. Before the game, the teacher and the students sat together and discussed how to win the game. A student came up with a good idea and he shared it with us. It was a hard game, but everyone cheered for us and we worked together perfectly. Finally, we won.
We all got proud of ourselves because everyone played a part in this game. We now realize that teamwork is the key to success.

Looking back at the past, life was quite different. People had to communicate with family and friends by writing letters, which took a long time. As for study, though details aren’t mentioned, I imagine it was less convenient than now.
But in the future, things will change a lot. People will have more free time because robots will do the heavy and difficult jobs. I believe study will also become easier and more interesting with advanced technology.
