Have you ever heard of the “three Rs” — “Reduce, reuse, recycle”? This idea is now coming to life on Mount Wugong in Jiangxi Province through a creative program.
To protect the mountain’s beautiful grasslands, the scenic spot has started an “Exchange Rubbish for Gifts” activity. It is simple to join: visitors get a rubbish bag at the foot of the mountain, collect litter along the hiking trails, and return a full bag to receive a special gift. These gifts are often eco-medals or beautiful postcards, turning the environmental act into a fun “treasure hunt”.
This activity also greatly helps the cleaners. “Cleaning the wide grassland is challenging,” says one cleaner. “Now, with visitors’ help, the mountain stays cleaner, and our workload is lighter.”
A young visitor, Li Ming, shared his experience. He was excited to get his eco-medal. “It’s not just a gift,” he said. “It teaches us that protecting the environment is an action everyone can take part in. It makes us feel proud.” Another visitor, Ms Zhang from Nanchang, came with her family. She found the activity highly educational for her children. “It’s a practical lesson that goes beyond the classroom,” she noted. “It shows them the direct impact of their actions and develops a real sense of responsibility.”

This autumn, students in the Finnish town of Riihimaki headed back to school with school-bags full of books. This marks a change from recent years. For the past 10 years, the Finnish government pushed laptops (笔记本电脑) and other electronic devices in the classroom.
Finland’s public education system is known for its good results and its readiness to try new teaching methods. Until recently, many schools gave laptops for free to all students from as early as age 11. But Finnish parents and teachers have become increasingly worried about the effect of screens on children. This school year, schools in Riihimaki went back to pen and paper.
The distraction (分心) that comes with the use of digital devices made many children restless and unable to give their full attention to learning. Most students just did the exercises as quickly as they could so they could then move on to using social media.
Across Finland, children’s learning results have been slowly getting worse in recent years. In answer, the government plans new laws to ban (禁止) the use of personal devices, such as phones, during school hours to cut back on screen time.
One of Kaunonen’s students is 14-year-old Elle Sokka. She said she did not always pay attention to the school subjects when learning digitally. Instead, she moved to another web page. Eighth-graders Miko Mantila and Inka Warro, both 14, said their concentration (专注) has improved since books returned to the classrooms. “Reading, for one, is much easier and I can read much faster from books,” Mantila said. “And if you have to do homework late at night, it’s easier to go to sleep when you haven’t just been looking at a device,” Warro added.
68. What did students in Riihimaki take to school this autumn?
A. Laptops and mobile phones. B. School-bags full of books.
C. Digital devices and exercise books. D. Stationery and snacks.
69. Why did schools in Riihimaki go back to pen and paper this school year?
A. Because the Finnish government stopped providing free laptops.
B. Because parents and teachers were worried about screens’ effect on children.
C. Because the public education system needed to change its teaching methods.
D. Because students aged 11 no longer wanted to use digital devices in class.
70. What’s the Finnish government’s purpose of making new laws?
A. To encourage students to use social media at school.
B. To improve students’ interest in digital learning.
C. To reduce students’ screen time during school hours.
D. To help students get better scores in exams quickly.
71. What can we learn from the students’ words in the last paragraph?
A. Digital learning helps students focus better in class.
B. Learning with books improves students’ concentration.
C. Doing homework with devices helps students sleep well.
D. Paper books are much more expensive than digital devices.
72. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Finland’s public education system is famous around the world.
B. Digital devices have serious bad effects on students’ health.
C. Finnish schools are moving from digital learning back to paper-based learning.
D. Finnish students’ learning results have been getting worse these years.
