For most people, having something important stolen feels like a disaster.Robbie Pruitt admitted when
his mountain bike was stolen last September,he got mad.But soon his emotions took a turn. After letting go
of his anger,he found himself on a road to sympathy (instead.
As a biker,Pruitt's first priority was to buy one again, but when he went bike shopping,he found the
pickings slim. The shortage in supply got him thinking:What if the person who'd taken his bike had done so
because he truly needed bikes to get to work?
With that thought in mind,Pruitt came up with a plan and posted it to a local Facebook group. He
offered to fix bikes free of charge for anyone who needed it.Pruitt also put out a call for bikes people don't
use, which he would repair again for free-and then donate to people who could truly use them but didn't
have the budget to buy a bike.
The day the post went live,Pruitt was excited about a list of 30 used bicycles. And this was followed
by more than 500 posts from people who either had bikes to donate or that needed fixing soon after.By the
end of the month,Pruitt had repaired more than 140 bikes for donation.
Pruitt tries to give his donations to struggling families.Beyond simply satisfying a material need,he
has provided an opportunity for kids in his neighborhood to learn how to fix their own bikes.
In addition to practical skills,Pruitt's lessons teach teamwork, encourage self-esteem,and develop
feelings of community."Pruitt is certainly providing a service, but it's not the bikes. It's the relationships in
the community. It's the impact he made on people. All the neighborhood kids are spending a lot more time
doing something that's in their power,"Pruitt's next-door neighbor Danny told The Washington Post.
4.How did Pruitt feel atter be went to the bikeslop?

Proper questioning has become a lost art.The curious four-year-old asks a lot of questions-incessant
streams of"Why?"and"Why not?"might sound familiar-but as we grow older, our questioning decreases.
In a recent survey of more than 200 of our clients,we found that those with children estimated that 70-80%
of their kids'dialogues with others were comprised of questions. But those same clients said that only
15-25%of their own interactions consisted of questions..Why the drop off?
Think back to your time growing up and in school.Chances are that you received the most recognition
or reward when you got the correct answers.Later in life, that motivator continues. At work,we often
reward those who answer questions, not those who ask them.Questioning conventional wisdom can even
lead to being distanced,or considered a threat.
Because expectations for decision-making have gone from"get it done soon"to "get it done now to
"it should have been done yesterday"we tend to jump to conclusions instead of'asking more questions. And
the unfortunate side effect of not asking enough questions is poor decision-making.That's why it's vital that
we slow down and take the time to ask more and better questions. At best,we'll arrive at better conclusions.
At worst,we'll avoid a lot of rework later on.
Aside from not speaking up enough, many professionals don't tink about how different types of
questions can lead to different outcomes. We should lead a conversation by asking the right kinds of
questions, based on the problem we're trying to solve. In some case8.we'll want to expand our view of the
problem rather than keeping it narrowly focused. In others,we may want to challenge basic assumptions or
confirm our understanding in order to feel more confident in our conclusions. Therefore, asking the right
kinds of questions is what counts in achieving a goal.
8.What does the underlined word"incessant"in paragraph 1 most probably mean?
A.Simple.
B.Random,
C.Constant.
D、Annoying,
9..What accounts for the decline of questioning in adulthood?
A.One poses a threat to the company if they ask questions.

B.Adults don't get as many chances as they did in childhood.
C.Those who question popular beliefs are thought to be wise.
D.Those asking questions don't always get positive feedback
10.What can we infer from paragraph 3?
A.Redoing is unavoidable despite thoughtful questions.
B.Decisions made in a hurry may turn out to be wrong.
C.Better questions can surely bring desirable outcomes.
D.More attention should be paid to making conclusions.
11.What might the author continue talking about?
A.Proper questions that should be raised.
B.Important goals that we are to achieve.
C.Right kinds of answers to the questions.
D.Ways to expand our view of the problem.

Whether humanity expresses itself in paintings, books, movies, songs or any other creative media, art
always finds its way back to the person who made it and their life stories. It is hard to define what "good"art
is,but to me,it means anything that somebody created with the intention of representing something that
matters to them.
The one thing that I will never call "art",however,is anything that was made with artificial
intelligence.
Take painting for example. Most of the well-known painters of the past 200 years drew on the lives
they lived to make their art.Claude Monet, for example, was inspired by the water garden that he would see
daily at his estate (in Normandy,France. This series included some of his most famous works made in
the impressionism style, which focuses on creating the illusion()of movement to represent humanity.
The point is that painters drew on the places they lived in and their views of life to create art. They
used their understanding of style, color and movement to create lovely images and represent what mattered
to them. That is something that AI is unable to do.The AI program can only generate an image based on a
collection of images from the websites. It cannot draw on its own experience at all.
Another common use of AI programs is to have them generate the written word. For me,there is no
heart or soul in what the AI produces. The product requires no thought or effort, both of which are key parts
of meaningful written work.Author Nora Roberts, who has had 68 of her romance novels appear on The
New York Times bestseller list, once said that you have to love the written word to be capable of good
writing.AI cannot feel emotions and love what it writes. Therefore, how could it ever create good writing?
The beautiful thing about life is that we all go through it differently, and art has the ability to bring us
together with our unique experiences.Neither can AI replicate (that, nor should we make it try.
试卷第4页,共8页
12.What is considered essential for creating meaningful art?
A.Artistic skills.B.Unique styles of art.C.Personal experiences.D.Advanced technologies.
13.Why does the author mention Monet's artworks?
A.To highlight Monet's talent for art.
B.To give an example of genuine art.
C.To trace the beginnings of impressionism.
D.To describe famous painting techniques.
14 What is lacking in AI-produced writing?
A.Accuracy and detail.
B.Depth and persuasion
C.Structure and balance.
D.Emotion and passion.
15.What does the author wish to arhieve in the text?
A.To criticize writers'dependence on AI.B.To show AI's value in creative work.
C.To discourage the use of AI in art.
D.To reveal AI's importance to artists.
