Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a long history and it’s an important part of Chinese culture. Around 3,000 years ago, people began to write about how to stay healthy and treat different illnesses. The doctors at that time had smart ways to find out what was wrong with man’s body. The ways they used can be described as “observing (观察 ), listening, questioning, and pulse (脉搏) reading”. Some great Chinese doctors wrote many medicine books about TCM in history. The earliest medicine book was written by Shen Nong who explained how herbs (草药) could help us. In order to write this book, he tasted hundreds of herbs. Finally, he recorded about 365 kinds of plants in the book and many of them are still used today. During the Ming Dynasty, traditional medicine improved a lot. One of the most famous doctors called Li Shizhen gave his ideas about how to use different herbs and how they worked in his book. He divided illnesses into groups and listed several ways to treat them. This helped other doctors know how to help sick people better. TCM has been developing with the times.

Most of us cannot imagine modern life without social media (社交媒体). We use it almost every day to keep up with what is happening in our friends’ lives, or find out the latest information. Although it has a bad influence if we don’t use it properly, social media has done more good than harm.
The greatest advantage is that we can connect with people much more easily. We are still able to keep in touch with our friends if they are far away. With social media friendship goes beyond geography. Also, it makes it easier for us to make friends, especially for those who are afraid of making friends face to face. Are you shy? If yes, social media has probably helped.
Social media is also perfect for making yourself heard. Anyone with a voice can express it. Anyone with a talent is free to show it. Everyone is the new content (内容) maker. And anyone with a smartphone and the Internet can be a reporter. As a result, it has become much faster to cover the news than ever before.
Social media, on the other hand, can make us less confident sometimes. A study found that the more a person uses social media, the sadder he feels about his own life. One reason for this is that people around us put colourful information and perfect pictures online to show off their best moment. So we often get a distorted sense of how wonderful their lives are compared to our own.
Social media does not cause sadness. It simply provides another tool for us to use. Is it good or bad? Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai says, ” What is interesting is the power and influence of social media... We must try to use social media in a good way.”
32. What is the greatest advantage of social media according to the text?
A. Expressing our voices freely. B. Showing our talents to others.
C. Recording the best side of our life. D. Connecting with people more easily.
33. What does the underlined word “distorted” probably mean?
A. Clear. B. Different. C. Wrong. D. Simple.
34. What would be the best structure (结构) of the text?
A. B. C. D.
35. What might the writer agree with?
A. Social media has no bad influence.
B. Social media can be terrible for your health.
C. Social media makes it harder for us to make friends.
D. Social media can make us less confident sometimes.
D
If Confucius—the great old thinker—were still alive today and could celebrate his September 28th birthday with a big cake, there would be a lot of candles. He’d need a fan or a strong wind to help him put them out.
While many people in China will remember Confucius on his special day few people in the United States will give him a passing thought. It’s nothing personal. Most Americans don’t even remember the birthdays of their own national heroes.
But this doesn’t mean that Americans don’t care about Confucius. In many ways he has become a bridge that foreigners must cross if they want to reach a deeper understanding of China.
In the past twenty years, the Chinese study programs have gained huge popularity in Western universities. More recently, the Chinese government has set up Confucius Institutes (孔子学院) in more than 80 countries. These schools teach both Chinese language and culture. The main courses of Chinese culture usually include Chinese art, history and philosophy (哲学). Some social scientists suggest that Westerners should take advantage of the ancient Chinese wisdom to make up for the drawbacks (缺点) of Westerners’ philosophy. Students in the United States, at the same time, are racing to learn Chinese. So they will be ready for life in a world where China is an equal power with the United States. Businessmen who hope to make money in China are reading books about Confucius to understand their Chinese customers.
So the old thinker’s ideas are still alive and well.
Today China attracts the West more than ever, and it will need more teachers to introduce Confucius and Chinese culture to the West.
As for the old thinker, even if few can remember his birthday, he will not be forgotten by people in the West.
36. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By telling a story. B. By showing facts.
C. By giving an example. D. By imagining a picture.
37. What’s the writer’s attitude (态度) towards spreading Chinese culture to the world?
A. Worried. B. Angry. C. Confident. D. Upset.
38. Why does Chinese government set up Confucius Institutes in foreign countries?
A. To learn about western national heroes.
B. To find out drawbacks of Westerners’ philosophy.
C. To teach Chinese language and culture.
D. To teach languages and histories of other countries.
39. What can we infer (推断) from the passage?
A. Confucius’ ideas will help more Westerners understand Chinese better.
B. Most Americans will celebrate the birthdays of their own national heroes.
C. Businessmen in the United States will make no money in China.
D. Confucius’ birthday will be always remembered by Westerners.
40. What’s the best title for the passage?
A. Big Fans of the Big Hero. B. Old Thinker with a Big Future.
C Forgotten Wisdom in America. D. Different Cultures All over the World.
第二节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
I’m a minimalist (极简主义者) girl. I used to have too many things. My bedroom was often very messy. I had many books I never read and CDs I didn’t listen to. My drawers were filled with clothes I didn’t wear. I was getting upset because I never had any space in my bedroom.
Then I read about minimalism (极简主义). Minimalism suggests that you only keep the most necessary things and get rid of everything else. After reading about minimalism I felt encouraged to solve my problem.
I started clearing out a lot of the things which I didn’t use. I collected bags of clothes to give to charity. I sold some of my CDs and books online. Although I know that I would never need these things again, I still found it very difficult to get rid of them. But the thing was that I couldn’t keep everything.
After getting lots of things out of my room, I actually became quite excited to see the tidy room with some fresh space. And an organized bedroom also makes me have a clear and organized mind! The main idea behind minimalism is to cut down what you own, and by doing this you can really value the things you have. It’s not easy to be a minimalist. We are often told that it is better to have more things. Advertisements try to make us believe that we will only be happy by spending more money to buy more things.
Of course I’m not a perfect minimalist—I’ve only just started. I still own a lot of things which I don’t really need, but I think this was a good start. In the future, I will be more careful with what I buy. And I will continue to make an effort to get rid of what I don’t need.

If Confucius—the great old thinker—were still alive today and could celebrate his September 28th birthday with a big cake, there would be a lot of candles. He’d need a fan or a strong wind to help him put them out.
While many people in China will remember Confucius on his special day, few people in the United States will give him a passing thought.
36 How does the writer start the passage?
C. Forgotten Wisdom in America. D. Different Cultures All over the World.
【答案】36. D 37. C 38. C 39. A 40. B
