When I was about twelve years old, my mother told us that we would not be 13 Christmas gifts because there was not enough money. I felt sad and thought, “What would I say when the other kids asked what I’d got?” Just when I started to 14 that there would not be a Christmas gift that year, three women broke in at our house with gifts for all of us. They brought me a doll. I felt such a sense of relief that I would no longer have to be embarrassed when I returned to school. I wasn’t 15 . Somebody had thought enough of me to bring me a gift.
Several years later, when I stood in the kitchen of my new house, thinking how I wanted to make my 16 Christmas there special and memorable, I immediately remembered the women’s visit. I decided that I wanted to create that same feeling of 17 for as many children as I could possibly reach.
So I came up with a plan and gathered forty people from my company to help. We gathered about 125 orphans (孤儿) at the Christmas party. For every child, we wrapped colorful packages filled with toys, clothes, and school supplies, each with a child’s name. We wanted all of them to know they were 18 . Before I called out their names and handed them their gifts, I reminded them that they couldn’t open their presents until every child had come forward. Finally, the 19 they had been waiting for came as I called out, “One, two, three. Open your presents!” As the children opened their packages, their bright smiles 20 up the room. The joy in the room was pretty obvious, and it wasn’t just about toys. It was a feeling—the feeling I knew from that Christmas so long ago when the women came to visit. I wasn’t forgotten. Somebody thought of me. I matter.

The cold wind swept away the last warmth. A dead leaf fell at Soapy’s feet—a sign that winter was coming. The three months’ life in prison (监狱) on Blackwell’s island was what he wanted. Three months of free food, a warm bed and safety from the cops (警察). This seemed the most expected thing to Soapy. For years, the prison had been his winter home.
There were many easy ways of doing this. Soapy’s first plan was to eat a fine dinner, then claim (宣称) he had no money to pay. He believed he would be arrested (逮捕), but the restaurant waiter noticed his broken shoes and clothes and threw him out before he could sit down. The first failure let him down.
Days later, he tried a new trick: he picked up a stone and broke the glass window of a shop. When a cop arrived, Soapy stood still, smiling, ready to be taken away.
“Where’s the man that did that?” asked the cop.
“Don’t you think that I might have done it?” said Soapy. What he wanted was coming toward him.
But the cop didn’t consider Soapy because the criminal (罪犯) who breaks windows doesn’t stop there to talk to cops. They run away as fast as possible. The cop saw a man further along the street, running. He ran after him. Soapy’s heart was filled with sadness, and he walked slowly away. He had failed twice.

Nowadays many people go camping for fun. Camping can be enjoyed in the backyard or deep in the wilderness. Whether camping for one night or several weeks, being prepared is the key.
Endless fun
Once the tent, your base, is put up and the fire area is prepared, there is lots to do. Fishing and hiking are just some of the fun activities. At night, campers often sit by the fire, talking and telling stories. If the weather turns rainy, campers usually wait it out in their tents, reading, drawing or playing games.
Required equipment
Shelter, bedclothes, food and water are necessary. Deciding what else you will need depends on the kind of camping trip you are planning and the length of your trip. Pack light if you are going to carry equipment any distance. Clothing should be prepared enough to protect against weather and insects. A hat, whistle, bug repellent (驱虫剂) and rope may come in handy. Don’t forget a flashlight, a compass, cookers and a first-aid box.
Various tents
There are many types and styles of tents. You should choose your tent based on your needs. If you are camping alone in the backyard, a simple lean to or small tent may do. If you are camping with your family, a larger cabin tent or camping trailer may be best.
Proper locations
Where you decide to set up your campsite is very important. Look for a high and dry location if it rains. The ground should be level because hills and rocks are uncomfortable to sleep on. A sunny exposure (接触) in the morning with shade in the afternoon is perfect.
________
Wherever you camp, it is important to respect the environment around you. If you are in a park, make sure to follow its rules. Put your garbage and waste in rubbish bins. If you are in the wilderness, don’t make too much noise and do not disturb the plants or animals.
27.If the camper faces a strong wind, which kind of tent might be the best choice?
A.Lean-to tents. B.Pup tents. C.Alpine tents. D.Dome tents.
28.Which of the following is the best to be filled in the blank ________?
A.Park rules. B.Green camping. C.Plant protectors. D.Animal lovers.
29.The best title for the passage is ________.
A.How to Have Fun When Camping B.Necessary Equipment for Camping
C.Ways to Enjoy Camping Safely D.Some Useful Suggestions on Camping
D
Progress means the act of going forward. Making any kind of progress can make us healthy and happy in life. By setting and actively working towards our goals, we can make progress in our life.
To make more progress in life, start looking at problems in a different way. Whatever happens, if we think positively, it can be useful and helpful. We need to know that problems are part of our life. After we solve problems one after another, we can make more progress and become stronger.
Having confidence is helpful for us to make progress. Confidence comes from different places, such as proper education, training or having good relationships. We should also stay with people who believe in our success and actively support us. These people can help push us towards progress.
Slow progress is still progress. Just as the old saying goes, “It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” Progress usually comes a lot more slowly than we expect. Even if progress is slow, try not to be worried. One important thing is that we keep taking steps towards our goals, and another is that we clearly remember what our goals are all the time. The actual speed isn’t important.
The road to progress is not always smooth. Most progress often comes with setbacks along the way. Sometimes, maybe it feels like we’re taking one step forward and three steps back, but it won’t always be like that. Keep going towards our goals and we can much more easily make the progress we want.
Progress doesn’t always happen in a straight line. As long as we keep working, we will achieve higher levels.
30.What does Paragraph 3 tell us?
A.We should support different people. B.Some people can push us to failure.
C.Confidence helps us make progress. D.Different schools expect the same progress.
31.Which word is close to the underlined word “setbacks”?
A.Prizes. B.Advantages. C.Excuses. D.Difficulties.
32.Which can be a proper title for the text?
A.Ideas about Making Progress. B.Keys to Speeding up Progress.
C.Meanings of Having Confidence. D.Suggestions on Relationships.
33.Which of the following best shows the structure of this passage?
A. B. C. D.
第二部分
本部分共5题,共20分。根据题目要求,完成相应任务。
四、阅读表达(第1-3题每题2分,第4题4分,共10分)
阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
When people first hear the word “rule”, they usually think about things they cannot do. This might seem like the opposite of freedom. However many experts argue that rules are not the enemy of freedom but its base. Actually, a rule is a guide telling people what behavior is considered right or desirable.
Imagine a world without rules. At first, it might seem like total freedom—you could do whatever you wanted. But soon problems would appear. Roads would be unsafe without traffic laws. Games would be pointless without rules to make them fair. In such situations, most people would actually feel less free, because their lives would be controlled by fear and uncertainty. This shows that absolute (绝对的) freedom, often leads to the loss of freedom.
Good rules do not kill freedom, instead, they create space for it. For example, school rules may require respect and honesty, but they also create space for students by giving them a fair environment to learn and express themselves. Traffic laws may require drivers to stop at red lights, but they also ensure that everyone can travel safely. In both cases, rules set limits so that freedom can be shared equally.
Rules also remind us that freedom is not just about the individual but also about the community. If everyone only thought of personal freedom, arguments would often happen. When people agree to follow rules and show respect for others’ rights, they will receive the same respect. This balance allows individuals to achieve their own goals while still belonging to a peaceful and cooperative society.
Rules may sometimes feel limiting, but they make life safer, fairer, and more predictable. True freedom is not doing whatever one pleases—it is living without fear, enjoying equal rights, and knowing that one’s choices will be respected. In short, rules are not the end of freedom; they are the very condition that makes freedom possible.
34.What is a rule according to the passage?
35.What does absolute freedom often lead to?
36.How do school rules create space for students?
37.According to your own understanding, what is the relationship between rules and freedom? Please share a personal example to support your idea.

There are many types and styles of tents. You should choose your tent based on your needs. If you are camping alone in the backyard, a simple lean to or small tent may do. If you are camping with your family, a larger cabin tent or camping trailer may be best.

【难度】0.65
【知识点】介词辨析
【详解】句意:——陈老师,我尝试做更多英语练习但没效果,而且我上课还犯困。——你最好不要违背你的生物钟,因为睡眠很重要。
考查介词辨析。past经过;through穿过;across横穿;against违背、违反。根据“sleep is very important”可知,睡眠重要,所以不应违背生物钟,go against one’s body clock意为“违背生物钟”。故选D。

A.better B.bigger C.broader D.brighter
【答案】C
【难度】0.65
【知识点】形容词辨析

—Adapted from The Cop and the Anthem
24.What does the underlined word “This” refer to in paragraph 1?
A.Having a good dinner. B.Wearing nice clothes.
C.Being sent to the prison. D.Owning a warm bed.
25.Why didn’t the police consider Soapy as the one who had thrown the stone?
A.Because Soapy looked friendlier and more honest than others.
B.Because the kind cop always thought about the good side of people.
C.Because the cop had already known who had broken the window before.
D.Because the cop believed the criminal wouldn’t stop there and talk to him.
26.How did Soapy’s feelings change according to the passage?
A.hopeful—disappointed—sad—happy B.hopeful—disappointed—happy—sad
C.disappointed—happy—sad—hopeful D.disappointed—hopeful—sad—happy
【答案】24.C 25.D 26.B

24.词句猜测题。根据文章第一段“The three months’ life in prison (监狱) on Blackwell’s island was what he wanted. Three months of free food, a warm bed and safety from the cops (警察). This seemed the most expected thing to Soapy.”可知,Soapy想要的是在监狱里三个月的生活,有免费食物、温暖床铺和免受警察追捕,这对他来说似乎是最期待的事情,所以“This”指代的是“被送进监狱”。故选C。
25.细节理解题。根据文章倒数第二段“But the cop didn’t consider Soapy because the criminal (罪犯) who breaks windows doesn’t stop there to talk to cops. They run away as fast as possible.”

There are several important rules in our school library. First, everyone must keep quiet so that others can focus on their reading or studies. Second, we should respect others by not eating, drinking, or making phone calls inside. Third, all borrowed books need to be returned on time.
I strongly agree with these rules because they help create a peaceful environment for everyone. When it is quiet, students can think clearly and improve efficiency. Returning books on time also ensures that more people can share the resources.
Following these rules shows respect for our shared learning space. I believe that if everyone obeys them, our library will remain a wonderful place to study and grow.
