Peking Opera has been a game changer for him, which led him to China and shaped enthusiasm for cultural exchanges. Pilotti had a childhood love for a Chinese film. “His films blended a lot of acrobatics (杂技) and comedy into the fight scenes,” Pilotti says. Unlike kung fu, primarily a martial art, Peking Opera caught his opinion as a theatrical form designed for the stage with unique way of moving and fighting. Pilotti decided to become an actor at an early age, studying at acting schools and majoring in physical theater at a Finnish university. During the third year in university, he got the first opportunity to study Peking Opera in China. “Some of my classmates went to India, for example, but my dream was to go to China — it was a no-brainer,” he says. In 2009, he and two other students arrived at the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts in Beijing to study Peking Opera for six months. Although he had no Chinese language skills or background in Peking Opera, teachers from the academy helped him grasp the essence of the performing art form through rigorous teaching and setting high standards. Traditional Chinese stories enlighten Pilotti. He has created two theatre pieces in recent years, including a story about the Monkey King, the omnipotent (全能的) character from the novel Journey to the West. In the Monkey King, Pilotti embodies the character’s tangibly characteristics through Peking Opera movements, inspiring his young audience members to be themselves. “The Monkey King is a famous character with many adaptations, so the kids already know a bit about him. But, when they can see the character closely in the show, it can be a surprise.” “My dream now is to do more cultural exchanges and maybe create a show where Chinese Peking Opera and Swedish actors perform together.” Pilotti says. 4. What can we know about Peking Opera and Pilotti from the text? A. Peking Opera is a martial art in Pilotti’s eyes. B. Peking Opera completely changed Pilotti’s life. C. Pilotti didn’t like Peking Opera at all as a child. D. Pilotti grew up with a Peking Opera background. 5 What did Pilotti mean by saying “it was a no-brainer” in paragraph 3? A It was a tough decision because he lacked Chinese skills. B. It was an obvious choice as he dreamed of going to China. C. He made the decision without any prior knowledge of China. D. It required extensive brainpower to understand Peking Opera. 6. What kind of person is Pilotti? A. Original and dedicated B. Adaptable and rigorous C. Passionate and considerate D. Committed and conventional 7. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. The Monkey King: A Huge Success B. A Swede Acts on Passion for Peking Opera C. It’s backed by an international team of scientists who see this new phase of agriculture as a way to ease global food demand. The Plenty Richmond Farm is designed to produce more than four million pounds of strawberries grown indoors vertically in 9-meter-tall towers, taking up less than 40,000 square feet. To date, plant-based commercial vertical farming has mostly been limited to the production of lettuce crops, but this latest technological advancement has broadened the scope of what can be grown upwards. With temperature, light and humidity controlled across 12 growing rooms, pollination of plants has also been engineered to be more efficient than bees. Ultimately, the company believes this will result in more uniformity in fruit and less waste. “This farm is a model for the positive impact climate-agnostic (不受气候影响的) agriculture can have, and a proof that vertical farming can deliver the crop diversity, scaled and local production needed to future-proof the global food system.” said Arama Kukutai, Plenty CEO. “I managed to get strawberries to produce 6 kg per plant when everybody was saying that the maximum you could produce in a greenhouse was 2 kg,” said Paul Gauthier, Professor of Protected Cropping at the University of Queensland. “I multiplied the strawberry output by three by modifying (调整) the environment and pushing it to the limit. I would like to see protected cropping or controlled environment agriculture treated as a separate discipline of plant science. If we are to increase food production by as much as 70% by 2050, we need to look at things differently.” “That is what vertical farming allows us to do — we didn’t have this possibility before.” he added. 8. What is the significance of opening the Plenty Richmond Farm? A. Making America self-sufficient in food production. B. Making food production unaffected by environmental problems. C. Sparking a global trend of changing all farms into indoor vertical ones. D. Solving the global food demand crisis completely with its scaled production. 9. What has the latest technological advancement in vertical farming achieved? A. Total independence from natural pollinators such as bees. B. The expansion of crop types and a more efficient pollination system. C. The ability to cultivate nearly all categories of vegetables commercially. D. Higher uniformity in fruit quality and a significant cut in production waste. 10. What can be inferred from Paul Gauthier’s achievement in strawberry production? A. His methods may fail in large-scale use. B. Vertical farming suits few crops beyond strawberries. C. Modifying environment guarantees higher food yields. D. Controlled-environment farming may get more attention. 11. What is the text mainly about? A. The emergence and initial development of vertical farming in the U.S.. B. Key advantages of vertical farming reflected in strawberry cultivation. C. A groundbreaking advance in vertical farming and its far-reaching significance. D. Scientific efforts to boost strawberry yields through controlled environment agriculture. 8. B 9. B 10. D 11. The research team developed a behavioral pattern involving mice in a controlled water consumption condition. Researchers first trained these mice to respond to the stimulation of two whiskers (鼠须) (A and B) and to produce an action — licking a spout (壶嘴) — only for whisker A in order to obtain a drop of water. Following this training, these mice reacted mainly to the stimulation of whisker A. Finally, the researchers conducted these experiments at decreasing levels of thirst in order to vary the motivation of the mice to participate in the task. In a state of great thirst, mice licked the spout randomly with great motivation. In a state of medium thirst, the choice of their action became ideal. They mainly licked the spout when whisker A was stimulated. Finally, when they were not very thirsty, their performance in the task atrophied again. By observing the activity of neuronal populations responsible for perceptual decision- making in these mice, researchers discovered that high- motivation leads to the strong stimulation of cortical neurons, which causes a loss of accuracy in the perception of the stimulation. In contrast, in the low- motivation state, the accuracy of the sensory information was recovered, but the strength of the signal was too low for it to be sent correctly. These results reveal that the level of motivation does not only impact decision- making but also the perception of sensory information, which leads to the decision. Researchers observed that mice understood the rule very quickly but could only express this learning much later, depending on a changed perception linked to their level of motivation. The research on the role of motivation in learning opens the way to new adaptive methods that aim to maintain the best level of motivation during learning. 12. Which aspect of motivation does the laboratory’s research focus on? A. What effect learning has on motivation B. What role perception plays in motivation. C. How motivation affects decision making. D. How sensory information affects motivation. 13. What is closest in meaning to the underlined word “atrophied” in paragraph 3? A. Declined. B. Enhanced. C. Stabilized. D. Diversified. 14. In what situation did the mice perform well enough in the experiment? A. The signal was not strong enough. B. They were pushed by high motivation. C. They were motivated to a medium degree. D. The perception of stimulation was inaccurate. 15. What does the last paragraph mainly tell readers? A. A lasting motivation can bring about a proper decision. B. People have difficulty maintaining the best level of motivation. C. High motivation makes the brain process sensory information properly. D. Flexible methods are needed to maintain the right degree of motivation. C 13. A 14. C 15. 根据第一段“Recently, the laboratory of Sami El- Boustani, an assistant professor at the University of Geneva, has studied the role played by motivation in perception and decision- making. “We wanted to observe how sensory information sent by cortical neurons (大脑皮层神经元) is changed by the degree of motivation and to what extent the latter can have an effect on learning and performance in a decision- making task.”(最近,日内瓦大学助理教授萨米·埃尔 - 布斯塔尼的实验室研究了动机在感知和决策中所起的作用。“我们想观察大脑皮层神经元发送的感觉信息是如何受到动机程度的影响,以及动机在多大程度上会对决策任务中的学习和表现产生影响”)”可知,该实验室的研究重点是动机如何影响决策,故选C项。 【13题详解】 词义猜测题。根据第三段“In a state of great thirst, mice licked the spout randomly with great motivation. In a state of medium thirst, the choice of their action became ideal. They mainly licked the spout when whisker A was stimulated. Finally, when they were not very thirsty, their performance in the task atrophied again.(在极度口渴的状态下,老鼠充满动力地随意舔壶嘴。在中度口渴的状态下,它们的行动选择变得很理想。当鼠须A受到刺激时,它们主要舔壶嘴。最后,当它们不是很口渴时,它们在任务中的表现atrophied )”可知,极度口渴时老鼠行动随意,中度口渴时表现理想,由此可推测当不太口渴时,也就是动机降低时,它们的表现会下降,所以“atrophied”意思可能是“下降”,与A选项“Declined(下降)”意思相符。故选A项。 根据据第三段“In a state of medium thirst, the choice of their action became ideal. They mainly licked the spout when whisker A was stimulated.(在中度口渴的状态下,它们的行动选择变得很理想。当鼠须A受到刺激时,它们主要舔壶嘴)”可知,在动机为中等程度时,老鼠在实验中的表现足够好,故选C项。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Researchers observed that mice understood the rule very quickly but could only express this learning much later, depending on a changed perception linked to their level of motivation. Admittedly, such technology could be beneficial for creating digital assistants. ____17____. Voice cloning, especially with deep voice software, is inclined to be misused. Just a short voice recording can be enough to clone a person’s voice convincingly. Consequently, anyone who utilizes voice messaging or speaks on answering machines is vulnerable to having their voice replicated without consent. Ning Zhang, a computer scientist at Washington University in St. Louis, has developed AntiFake, a tool designed to prevent unauthorized speech synthesis. ____18____. It employs techniques similar to those used by cybercriminals, but for the purpose of protecting voices from unauthorized use. ____19____. This makes it unsuitable for training voice clones while still sounding normal to human ears. Zhang explained that this use of adversarial AI, typically a tool for cybercriminals, is now being used for defense. This strategy mirrors techniques utilized for Internet content protection. As technologies become more integrated into our daily lives, we can’t afford to neglect the risks brought by the misuse of innovations. ____20____. With the increasing ease of cloning voices, maintaining authenticity and privacy is crucial for individuals and society. A. AntiFake slightly alters recorded audio B. Nevertheless, its misuse poses a substantial threat C. AntiFake is the first step towards complete digital security D. While this is a step forward, a single solution is insufficient E. Her family had just moved here from San Francisco, having bought a small restaurant, which was set to open in the next few days. “Moving here was a dumb idea,” Carly grumbled, mostly to herself. “What’s that?” Her mother asked, opening a box and lifting out several pots and a wok. “Nothing.” Carly mumbled. The girl had been irritated about the move, but her parents had made the decision and were now too busy getting ready for the grand opening to listen to her complaints. The first few days at her new school hadn’t been easy, either. She found it hard to talk to people she didn’t know, and it seemed like the students hadn’t even noticed her. Carly sighed and got back to washing dishes. On the day of the grand opening, Carly’s parents were all smiles, welcoming customers into the restaurant, brightly decorated in gold and red. Even Carly was in a good mood as she rushed around, seating guests, handing out menus, and pouring tall glasses of water. This was a big day for her family. At one of the tables sat a family with two daughters who were about Carly’s age. As she filled their glasses, Carly realized the twins were in her class. Carly ducked her head down so her long hair covered her face, and she turned away from the table. Carly’s mother found her soon after, in the kitchen loading the dishwasher. “Honey, what are you doing back here? We need you out front with the customers.” “Mom, I don’t want to be out there. There are kids from school!” “So?” her mother asked, “That’s good! Go take them some fortune cookies and say hello!” She clicked her tongue disapprovingly at Carly and disappeared out of the kitchen. Carly frowned. She grabbed a handful of fortune cookies that they gave out after every meal, but first she tore open a wrapper and cracked a cookie open for herself. She popped a sweet, crunchy (酥脆的) piece in her mouth, and absently read the paper fortune it held. “Many friends are found with a single smile,” it read. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Carly sighed, put a handful of fortune cookies into a small tray and left the kitchen. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Hey! You’ re the new girl — Carly, right?!” one of the girls exclaimed. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 Carly sighed, put a handful of fortune cookies into a small tray and left the kitchen. Her hands were slightly shaking as she walked toward the twins’ table, her heart beating fast. She kept telling herself to smile, remembering the fortune in her cookie. When she reached the table, she hesitated for a second, then forced a soft smile and placed the tray down. “Here are your fortune cookies,” she said quietly, avoiding eye contact, ready to turn away quickly. “Hey! You’re the new girl — Carly, right?!” one of the girls exclaimed. Carly froze, then slowly looked up, surprised that they recognized her. The other twin smiled warmly and pulled out a chair beside her. “We saw you in class but didn’t dare to say hi,” she said. “Your family’s restaurant is amazing!” Carly felt her tension fade away, and she even smiled more naturally. They talked about school and the restaurant, and before long, Carly realized that making friends wasn’t as hard as she thought. The fortune was right — a single smile really could bring new friends. 词汇激活 行为类 ①颤抖:shake/tremble ②跳动:beat/race ③看到:see/catch sight of 情绪类 ①极好的:amazing/marvelous ②准备好:ready/prepared 【点睛】[高分句型1] Her hands were slightly shaking as she walked toward the twins’ table, her heart beating fast.(运用了as引导时间状语从句) [高分句型2] When she reached the table, she hesitated for a second, then forced a soft smile and placed the tray down.(运用了when引导时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 杭高2025学年第一学期期末考试高二 (英语) 试题卷 1. 1. B 37-year-old Swedish actor Timothy Pilotti uses physical comedy to bring cultural exchanges to the stage. 5. What did Pilotti mean by saying “it was a no-brainer” in paragraph 3? A. It was a tough decision because he lacked Chinese skills. A Swede’s Journey into Chinese Martial Arts D. Pilotti’s Childhood Dream: From Finland to China C With the “world’s first farm to grow indoor, vertically farmed berries at scale” opening in the U.S., major steps towards sustainable and affordable food production free of environmental challenges have been taken. D Recently, the laboratory of Sami El- Boustani, an assistant professor at the University of Geneva, has studied the role played by motivation in perception and decision- making. “We wanted to observe how sensory information sent by cortical neurons (大脑皮层神经元) is changed by the degree of motivation and to what extent the latter can have an effect on learning and performance in a decision- making task.” explains Sami El- Boustani. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Recent advances in generative artificial intelligence (AI) have made speech synthesis (合成) so authentic that it’s hard to tell if one is speaking with a human or an AI-generated fake voice. ____16____ The greater danger lies in the potential for the unauthorized use of the cloned voice for harmful purposes. The risk emerges when someone’s voice is cloned without permission F. The creation of AntiFake emphasizes the need for ongoing focus on AI ethics G. In other words, it actively stops the creation of an AI-generated fake voice from voice data 第三部分 语言运用 (共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) “My loss of vision was troublesome. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
