Do you hear a little noise when you’re trying to sleep at night?
That’s me, a mosquito. I am singing and flying around your bed. Oh, let me give you a”kiss”!Then you wake up and scratch everywhere. Maybe you want to kill me. But I fly away fast. Maybe you can’t go to sleep. And the next morning you are late for school.
The Type of Blood (血型)
Mosquitoes like to bite people with type O blood most. Did you hear people say this before? But that’s not true! In fact, I can’t tell which blood group you have. Only doctors can do that well. So how do I pick whom to kiss?
Colour
I use my eyes to look for food. But I don’t see very well. If you want to keep away from my kiss, do not wear dark colours such as black and red. These colours help me to see you better.
Sweat (汗)
I find people by smelling their sweat. When you do sports and start sweating, I can smell your sweat from far away. So yummy! But if you take a shower to wash your body after exercising, it will be very difficult for me to find you.
Heavy People
I can also smell the CO₂ you breathe out (呼出去). If you are fat or heavy, you will make more CO₂, and it is really easy for me to find you. So, larger and heavier people are more likely to get my kiss.

Joao, 71, lives on an island near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He doesn’t need to work, but still works as a part-time fisherman. One day, about five years ago, when he was walking on the beach, he saw a little penguin with oil (油) on its body. “If no one helps the bird wash away the oil, it may lose its life,” Joao thought. So he took the bird home and gave it a shower. Joao gave the bird fish to eat, and called it “Din dim”. The penguin soon became strong and healthy. It was able to go back to the water.
After a week or two, Joao went down to the coast (海岸) and tried to free Din dim. But the penguin didn’t want to go. It stayed with Joao for another eight months, getting bigger and stronger. And Joao enjoyed being with his new friend. Then one day in February, Din dim left. When Joao found this, he cried and couldn’t eat or sleep all day and all night. But, in his heart, he hoped that the bird went back to its penguin family. Four months later, when Joao was walking home from the beach, he heard a “honking” sound—Din dim was back. Why do mountain goats climb? They don’t climb just for fun. One reason is to escape from dangerous animals like bears and wolves. The higher they climb, the safer they will be. They also climb in search of food, such as plants and grass. Interestingly, they climb high to get salt (盐). Sometimes people see goats lick (舔) rocks and the sides of mountains.

A wild dog with a reddish-brown (红褐色) coat is making a sound to tell others, “Look! Our meal is coming to us.” After hearing the sound, a deer starts to run — but the dogs are too fast.
Having “talks” is very important for these animals. People call these animals dholes (豺). Dholes are a kind of wild dog. They mainly live in Asia.
