When I was in middle school, I experienced a strong earthquake. One afternoon I was listening to the teacher carefully when the ground began to shake. Desks and chairs hit each other, and books fell from desks. Everyone panicked at first, but thanks to our regular earthquake drills(演习),we quickly calmed down. We got under our desks to protect ourselves. When the shaking stopped, the teacher guided us out of the classroom in order.
Outside, we saw the windows of our library break. The roof of our dining hall nearly came off. We quickly got to the playground. There we stood in lines by class, and teachers called the roll(点名) to make sure no one was missing. We still felt light aftershocks, but everyone stayed calm with teachers and classmates around.
Later, parents arrived to pick up their children. After I returned home with my parents, I found that our house was a mess. But I didn't care. I was just so glad because my family was safe.
That night, we learned that the earthquake caused a lot of damage to the city. Many buildings fell down and lots of people lost their homes and families. I was sad to hear that.
