①There is a saying, “You are what you eat.” How about “you are what you read”? Many people believe reading can shape your identity (身份).
②Your identity is who or what you are and what you do. Books, magazines or even websites you often read or visit change the way you think and what you believe in, then decide the things you do.
③For example, an 8-year-old boy has read that throwing rubbish about is polluting and killing the earth, then he will believe it is bad and won’t do it again. This is the message he’ll share with the people around him. And they will see him as someone who loves the earth. This becomes part of his identity—an earth-lover.
④Research has shown that reading also changes the way you interact (互动) with people around you. Reading stories helps you imagine and understand situations and others better. You will be more open-minded, less self-centred and more caring. People may see you as someone who is warm-hearted, and that becomes part of your identity.
⑤It is important to read as it can shape your identity. Reading different kinds of books can help you become what you want to be. Read biographies (传记) of people who encourage you if you want to be more like them. If you want to be a creative writer, read more fiction books. If you want to be a songwriter, read more poetry!
⑥So, go on! Pick up a book today and read! A new YOU is waiting for you!
29.What is the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
30.What’s the writer’s purpose of writing the passage?
A.To call on us to read more books. B.To give us advice on how to read.
C.To help us to understand what identity is. D.To advise us to change our reading habits.

Last summer I went to one of the world’s most famous historical places, the Forbidden City in Beijing, China. It was the home of the emperors (皇帝) of the last two dynasties in China, the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
The Forbidden City was built in 1420. The palace has over 10,000 rooms. It was where the emperors dealt with the official business with their ministers.
In Mandarin (普通话), the Forbidden City is called the Purple Forbidden City. However, the colour of the palace itself is not purple. The colour purple means the great emperors of China have powerful right. It was so sacred (神圣的) that the commoners could not even dream of ever going in.
The emperor also had some of the largest festival celebrations at the Forbidden City. During Chinese New Year, the emperor would invite all the members of his family and his officials to a banquet. The banquet had a hundred and eight Chinese dishes. It was such an expensive banquet that it could feed a commoner’s family for three generations (代).
Right now the Forbidden City is known as a historical site for tourists from all over the world. Everyone can go in there. It is a museum with priceless Chinese antiques (古董) and treasures in it. I really learned a lot about the Chinese culture and its history from this trip to the Forbidden City. It was like a dream come true to go on the trip and see the things that I had always wanted to see.

Raden works in a library in Germany. She has a project—lending books to children in exchange for waste they collect.
Raden likes her job. Raden rides her three-wheeler (三轮车) with books at the back to the village from Mondays to Fridays. There, many children are waiting to exchange books with old cups, bags and other useless things. When she arrives, the children gather around her three-wheeler, the “Litter Library”, and the books fly out quickly. Raden collects about 100 kg of waste each week. She has more than 6,000 books to lend and plans to go to more places, too.

The project is also a way to clean up the environment. It can help to take care of the waste to fight climate (气候) change and to protect the earth. Kevin is a reader of the “Litter Library”. He’s 11 years old. He often looks for waste lying in the village. “When there is too much waste, our environment will become dirty and it’s not healthy. That’s why I look for waste to borrow a book,” he says.

32.How long is the history of the Forbidden City?
A.About 500 years. B.More than 600 years.
C.1,420 years. D.Over 10,000 years.
33.We call the palace the Purple Forbidden City because the colour purple stood for the emperor’s ____.
A.power B.honesty C.wealth D.health
34.What’s the meaning of the underlined word “banquet” in Paragraph 4?
A.Performance. B.Competition. C.Exhibition. D.Feast.
35.Which of the following is NOT true about the Forbidden City in the passage?
A.The emperor lived there. B.The wall of the Forbidden City was purple.
C.It is a historical place for visiting. D.The emperor had festival celebrations there.
D
With the rapid development of the economy, more and more families have the ability to travel. Traveling is not only a way to relax but also a great opportunity to learn. It allows us to experience different cultures, meet new people, and broaden our horizons. For students, traveling can be a valuable educational experience. When we travel to other cities or countries, we can see historical sites, museums, and natural scenery with our own eyes. We should also protect the environment by not littering or damaging natural resources. Additionally, we should plan our trips carefully to avoid wasting time and money.
Raden’s project is a new way to increase (增加) kids’ reading. She is happy that it will take the kids more time to read books than to play online games as a result. She thinks that it can help build a culture of reading from young age.
More and more people realize that it’s important for kids to read and protect the environment. That must be good news to Raden.
