A man, for example, values work-life balance yet works 80 hours every week, caring little about his own health and family. Another example is a boy who holds his parents’ love dear but gets angry at them in a moment of stress; or a woman who hopes to live healthily but gives in to the attraction of fast food during moments of weakness.
This disagreement can lead to serious results, such as worsening relationships, limited personal growth, and self-doubt. The emotional effects of feeling out of control and unable to live up to our own standards can also be deeply harmful. The shame and upset that go along with these feelings often force us into silence, resulting in more self-doubt. One reason for this silence might be that admitting (承认) to these behaviors can feel like showing a weakness or mistake that society tells us should be kept hidden. What’s more, recognizing this disagreement requires coming face to face with uncomfortable truths about ourselves—a process that is as discouraging as it is necessary for growth.
Recognizing and addressing these behaviors can provide a possibility of change. By looking into the causes of our behaviors, we can begin to understand our actions more easily and work toward sticking to our beliefs. Research supports the idea that recognizing this disagreement, together with mindfulness and open communication, can help with this process. These methods help us slow down, reflect (反思), and choose behaviors that follow our values more closely, even in the face of old habits or immediate needs.
The key to dealing with this disagreement lies in compassion (同情) for ourselves and others. By developing a culture of openness and by understanding the challenges of aligning behaviors with beliefs, we can begin to break down what prevents us from having conversation and change. Admitting that this disagreement is a shared part of the human experience can enable us to speak openly, find support, and take necessary steps toward the agreement between our inner world and our actions.
While the disagreement between our inner values and actions may be common, through reflection, understanding and purposeful practice, we can bridge the divide and set out on a journey of self-discovery.
12.Why does the writer use the examples in Paragraph 1?
A.To stress an unavoidable need. B.To show a result of the wrong values.
C.To describe a common human experience.
13.What does the word “aligning” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A.Matching. B.Comparing. C.Mixing.
14.Which of the following would the writer most probably agree with?
A.Discomfort forces us to give up our beliefs.
B.Our behaviors weaken our understandings of life.
C.Open communication makes it possible for us to change.
15.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To encourage people to stay true to their beliefs.
B.To prove the importance of having the right values.
C.To compare different ways to deal with discomfort.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑,选项中有一项为多余选项。
“Don’t try to change me.” 16 It is often used by people who regard change as a kind of attack (攻击) on their identity (身份). Any suggestion of improvement or an idea of reading a self-help book seems like they are not being accepted just the way they are. But is there a person in this world who never changes during their whole life?
If you think about it, change is something that is happening to us every day. Our experiences and the challenges we face, the people we meet on our way, and the things we watch, read or hear all influence us one way or the other, making us change gradually. 17 I believe that intentional (有意的) change in the form of self-improvement is something to be proud of.
18 We don’t trust the things that we know little about because we are not sure about the result they will bring. After years of being stuck in the same habits and patterns of thinking, we may be afraid of breaking the normal way we do things.
How does one break this cycle? 19 In order for anyone to change, they have to truly want it and make that decision on their own. Once they do, what they need is to find good ways to make an achievement. 20 Think about what can be done differently in the future instead of repeating the same behaviors and expecting a different result.
根据短文内容,将下面的句子还原到文中空白处,使短文内容完整、通顺。(每个选项只能用一次,选项中有一项是多余的)
A.Perhaps changing makes us uneasy.
B.Another, probably more common way is to learn from experiences.
C.You may feel great after changing yourself.
D.Because life is not always staying the same.
E.You surely have heard it in many situations during your life.
F.It can only be done through a decision to change something.

第三部分 写作(共两节,满分30分)
第一节(共5小题;满分10分)
阅读下面短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题,并将答案写到答题卡的相应位置。
The Sport of Concentration
Every day, it seems, a new gadget (设备) promises to help me increase the distance and pace I run, or the number of hours I sleep, or the rate of my heartbeats. It will make me a “better me,” or so the story goes.
Maybe some of them actually help to do these things, but nonetheless, I still decided to sell all of my sports gadgets a few months ago and simply record my running times with a pen and a notepad. Soon after, I began to train for a marathon the old-fashioned way, without something on my wrist telling me my pace and current heart rate. As it turned out, running without knowing all that information was a great pleasure.
In the past, whenever I was running slower than my smartwatch said I should be, I’d force myself to speed up, even if it was clear that my body didn’t want to. But this time, I ran the way I wanted to.
On more than a few occasions, when I’d look at my notepad following key workouts (锻炼), I was shocked to see that I’d had some real breakthroughs (突破), running much faster than I thought I could. I was so shocked about these numbers and thought that if I’d seen them during the workout itself, I would have probably slowed down. Yet, because I was blind to them, I just kept on running.
Another positive thing about getting rid of all my running gadgets is that it’s helping me concentrate (集中注意力) more on the running itself. Since I no longer feel like I need technology to run well, I can go out and run without worrying about whether everything has enough battery power.
So, what’s the lesson here? Well, we could very easily replace the example of running with writing, studying, or anything else. No matter what it is, the more time we spend worrying about how to make ourselves better at something, the more our performance is affected.
Should you stop using technology to “improve” your performance? Of course, that’s up to you. However, if I were to be asked that question, I’d certainly say that I’m better off without it.
41.When did the writer decide to sell all of the sports gadgets?
42.Why was the writer shocked?
43.What’s another positive thing without any running gadgets?
44.What does the writer learn from the example of running?
45.What do you think of sports gadgets? Why do you think so?

It’s quite common for us to eat too much junk food. Just putting one delicious snack (零食) in your mouth makes you want more. And now, scientists have worked out why we do this.
A research (研究) team from the US looked at the brains (大脑) of mice to see how their brains control (控制) their eating behavior. They found a set of special neurons (神经元) and named them “peri-LC neurons”.
These neurons play a role in deciding if the mice will go on eating after having a snack or not. The neurons fired (传递信号) less than usual while the mice were eating or drinking. If the neurons were stopped from firing at all, the mice would eat even more. This makes a cycle —— the mice eat and drink, the neurons fire less, the mice then feel like eating and drinking even more, and so the neurons goes on.
Of course, there are other neurons that make us feel full and stop eating. But this finding can help scientists begin to answer why it’s so easy to overeat. And by further studying these neurons, they may also find new ways to work out problems such as obesity (肥胖) and diabetes (糖尿病).
根据短文内容,选择最佳答案。

The police have many ways of catching criminals. One way of catching them is by fingerprinting. Fingerprinting is the study of the patterns on our fingertips. We have known that no two fingerprints are exactly the same for hundreds of years. However, it wasn’t until 1910 that the first criminal in the USA was convicted (被判有罪) using fingerprint evidence.
Early on the morning of September 19, 1910, Hiller’s wife noticed that the light which they usually left on was off. When Hiller went to find out what was happening, he saw a stranger at the top of the stairs. The stranger had broken in and wanted to steal. Hiller and the stranger started to fight, but the stranger had a gun. He shot Hiller twice and ran away.
Hiller’s wife ran to Hiller when she heard the gunshots but found him dead. So she called the police. Soon after, the police caught Thomas Jennings, not far from the Hillers’ house.
The only problem was no one saw the criminal. However, the police had started using fingerprinting at that time. According to Hiller’s wife, only several hours before Hiller’s death, he had painted some wood near the kitchen window. Then the police checked the wood completely and found some fingerprints in the wet paint.
During the trial (审判), the police proved that the fingerprints belonged to Jennings, and he was convicted of Hiller’s murder. Since then, fingerprinting has helped in the conviction of hundreds of thousands of criminals.
8.What helped the police convict the murderer of Hiller?
A. B. C.
9.Which paragraph shows how Hiller was killed?
A.Paragraph 1. B.Paragraph 2. C.Paragraph 3.
10.What is the right order of the case?

4.What did the scientists research?
A.Why people eat too much junk food.
B.What health problems people have if they eat too much snacks.
C.How mice’s brains work differently from our brains.
5.When mice are eating or drinking, the peri-LC neurons _________.
A.stop firing B.fire more than usual C.fire less than usual
6.The underlined word “cycle” in Paragraph 3 probably means “_________” in Chinese.
A.圆圈 B.发展 C.循环
7.What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.The findings might help solve health problems.
B.The research might help people control their neurons.
C.Peri-LC neurons can make people feel full.
【答案】4.A 5.C 6.C 7.A
【分析】文章大意:科学家通过实验发现了一组特殊的神经元,并解释了人们为什么无法控制而吃过多的零食。
4.细节理解题。根据“Just putting one delicious snack (零食) in your mouth makes you want more.”可知,科学家研究的是为什么人们想吃更多的垃圾食品,故选A。
5.细节理解题。根据“The neurons fired (传递信号) less than usual while the mice were eating or drinking”可知,当老鼠进食或饮水时,神经元传递的信号比平时少,故选C。
6.词义猜测题。根据“This makes a cycle —— the mice eat and drink, the neurons fire less, the mice then feel like eating and drinking even more, and so the neurons goes on”可知,这形成了一个循环,老鼠吃喝,神经元传递信号较少,老鼠想吃喝更多,神经元继续工作,所以cycle表示“循环”,故选C。
7.推理判断题。根据“And by further studying these neurons, they may also find new ways to work out problems such as obesity (肥胖) and diabetes ”可知,通过进一步研究这些神经元,他们可能还会找到解决肥胖和糖尿病等问题的新方法,也就是可能帮助解决健康问题,故选A。

①The stranger shot Hiller twice and ran away.
②Jennings was convicted of Hiller’s murder.
③Hiller saw a stranger at the top of the stairs.
④Hiller painted some wood near the kitchen window.
⑤The police found Jennings’ fingerprints in the wet paint.
⑥The police caught Jennings, not far from the Hillers’ house.
A.③→④→①→⑤→⑥→② B.③→④→⑤→①→②→⑥
C.④→③→①→⑥→⑤→②
11.How does the writer end the passage?
A.By drawing a conclusion. B.By providing a surprise ending,
C.By leading in a question.

Almost everyone has experienced the feeling of discomfort when their actions do not agree with their inner values.

【答案】41.A few months ago. 42.Because the writer/she/he had some real breakthroughs, running much faster. 43.It’s helping the writer/her/him concentrate more on the running itself. 44.No matter what it is the more time we spend worrying about how to make ourselves better at something, the more our performance is affected. 45.One possible key: I agree with the writer. I think they’re not necessary for me. Because I don’t need technology to run well, I can go out and run without worrying about whether everything has enough battery power.
Another possible key: I think they are helpful for me. Because I can know the data from sports gadgets and improve my performance from time to time.
【导语】本文主要是作者结合自己跑步的经历告诉我们,与其依赖那些计数设备来记录跑步的情况,不如专心地跑步,因为让自己在某件事上做得更好的时间越多,我们的表现就越受影响。
41.根据“I still decided to sell all of my sports gadgets a few months ago”可知,几个月前,决定卖掉我所有的运动设备,故填A few months ago.
42.根据“I was shocked to see that I’d had some real breakthroughs (突破), running much faster than I thought I could”可知,作者很震惊地发现有了一些真正的突破,跑得比想象的要快得多,故填Because the writer/she/he had some real breakthroughs, running much faster.
43.根据“Another positive thing about getting rid of all my running gadgets is that it’s helping me concentrate (集中注意力) more on the running itself”可知,另一个摆脱所有跑步设备的好处是,它帮助作者更专注于跑步本身,故填It’s helping the writer/her/him concentrate more on the running itself.
44.根据“No matter what it is, the more time we spend worrying about how to make ourselves better at something, the more our performance is affected.”可知,这让作者明白无论如何,我们花在如何让自己在某件事上做得更好的时间越多,我们的表现就越受影响,故填No matter what it is, the more time we spend worrying about how to make ourselves better at something, the more our performance is affected.
45.开放性题,答案合理即可,参考答案为:One possible key: I agree with the writer. I think they’re not necessary for me. Because I don’t need technology to run well, I can go out and run without worrying about whether everything has enough battery power.
Another possible key: I think they are helpful for me. Because I can know the data from sports gadgets and improve my performance from time to time.

例文
Should Students Be Allowed to Watch Short Videos?
Short videos are now very popular among students. Many watch them for fun and learning. They have both good and bad sides. On the one hand, short videos can be educational and help us relax. On the other hand, some content is useless, and watching too much may waste time or even affect study. In my opinion, students should be allowed to watch them, but we must choose useful videos and control the time. For example, set a timer to avoid addiction.
