Passage1
In the city of Zhengzhou, there is a hot pot restaurant called Shengyousheng. It is doing something very special. It gives jobs to people who are hearing-impaired—that means they can’t hear well or at all.
The restaurant’s name includes (包括) the words “more” and “sound”. It shows its hope to bring more voices into the world. About half of the workers there have difficulty in hearing. A 31-year-old man, Deng Wei, works as the kitchen manager (经理). He makes about 4,000 yuan each month and says he enjoys working in a quiet and friendly place.
Shengyousheng is a self-service hot pot restaurant. Customers choose their own food and make their own sauces (调味汁), so there’s not much need to talk. This makes it easy for hearing-impaired workers to do their jobs. To help with communication, the restaurant uses big posters on the walls. These posters show simple hand signs, like how to say “thank you” by placing (放) one hand near your chin (下巴) and moving it forward. There are also signs for “food”, “hello”, and “wait for a while”. Next to each picture, there are easy-to-read words, so customers can understand what the hand signs mean. Each table also has cards and pens. Customers can use them to write to the workers if needed.
Shengyousheng is not only helping people with hearing problems find jobs, but also showing everyone that kindness (善良), patience (耐心), and respect are just as important as words. It’s a restaurant full of good food and big hearts.

Passage6
Last month, our school started a voluntary group called “Sunshine Helpers”. We wanted to help people in need in our community. There are many ways to show kindness, and our group tries to do small things that can make a big difference.
Some students visit elderly people who live alone. They spend time talking with them, helping clean their houses, and sometimes going for walks together. The elderly people feel less lonely and really appreciate the company. Other students help younger children with their homework after school. They also read stories to them. I joined the group because I believe that even little acts of kindness, like those in the poem “Little Things” by Julia Carney, can make the earth happy.
One day, we went to a local hospital to learn about blood donation. A doctor gave us a talk. She told us that donating blood is a life-giving gift. Many patients in hospital need blood to get better or even survive. She explained the different blood types: A, B, AB, and O. People with type O blood are called universal donors because their blood can be given to anyone in need. People with type AB are universal recipients. I was amazed to learn that one blood donation can help up to three people! World Blood Donor Day is on June 14th, the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, who discovered the blood groups.
After the visit, I decided that when I am older, I will donate blood regularly. I also realized that kindness comes in many forms. Sometimes it’s a kind word, like in the poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow: “Kind hearts are the gardens, kind thoughts are the roots; kind words are the flowers, kind deeds are the fruits.” We should all try to be kind every day. As Liu Bei said, “An act of kindness, no matter how small, is worth performing.”
Now, I feel happy when I help others. Helping others also helps me feel good about myself. I hope more students will join our group and spread kindness. Together, we can make the world a better place.
1.What is the main purpose of the “Sunshine Helpers” group?
A.To raise money for the hospital. B.To help people in need in the community.
C.To teach children about blood donation. D.To write poems about kindness.
2.What do some students do for elderly people?
A.They donate blood to them. B.They help them with homework.
C.They visit them and help with cleaning. D.They teach them about blood types.
3.According to the doctor, why is blood donation important?
A.It is a good way to meet new people. B.It can save lives of patients.
C.It helps you stay healthy. D.It is required by the hospital.
4.What does “universal donor” mean in the text?
A.A person with type AB blood. B.A person who can receive blood from anyone.
C.A person who donates blood on June 14th. D.A person with type O blood that can be given to anyone.
5.What did the writer learn from the experience?
A.Only adults can help others. B.Kindness can be shown in many small ways.

When I reached the other side, suddenly I heard cars sounding their horns (喇叭). I turned around and saw that the man was in the middle of the road. It seemed that he was too scared to move. Passage8
Dana Csonka is an adult now. When she was 8, her house caught on fire. The fire left burning scars (伤疤) on over 18 percent of her body, including her face, neck and arms. She got better and returned to school. Her classmates were mean, though. They made fun of her scars. “I didn’t have any friends,” she said.
Her nurses at the hospital gave her a suggestion. They said she should go to a camp for kids who had been burned. She went there every summer for 10 years. It helped her feel better. She met kids who could understand what she went through.
The burn camp started in the 1980s. Since then, it has been offering children with burning scars a week of relief from looking different. Campers go there to swim, play games and do many other things.
For 14-year-old Kevin Aeling, this was his second summer at the camp. Before then, a terrible fire left scars on over 25 per cent of his body.
At first, he was not sure if he wanted to go to the camp. His mother said, “He said, ‘I don’t want people to stare at me,’ I said, ‘Kevin, it’s a burn camp. Other people there have burns.’” He ended up loving it. Later, his mother noticed a difference. He was no longer embarrassed about the special clothes he had to wear for his scars. He was more comfortable being himself.
Every year, the Thursday of the camp week is Fire Truck Day. Fire trucks arrive, along with campers from previous (以前的) years, doctors and nurses, and family members. Campers can see fire trucks up close and talk with firefighters. Sometimes, they are the very firefighters who rescued the campers months or years earlier. Fire Truck Day allows them to see each other in a happy situation, which is always the campers’ most unforgettable day.
1.Which of the following is not true about the burn camp?
A.It started about forty years ago. B.The campers are kids with burning scars
C.Kids spend a month at the camp. D.It has many activities for the campers
2.What does the writer mainly want to tell us in Paragraph 5?
A.The camp made a difference to Kevin. B.Kevin’s friends always stared at him.
C.Kevin’s mother was worried about him. D.Kevin felt embarrassed at the camp.
3.What do we know about Fire Truck Day from the last paragraph?
A.It takes place in the hospital. B.It means a lot to the campers.
C.It’s just for family members. D.It makes the campers feel sad.
4.What’s the writer’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To speak highly of the firefighters. B.To show great pity to the kids with burning scars.
C.To cheer up the kids with burning scars. D.To introduce a burn camp and some campers.
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.B 4.D
【导语】本文是记叙文。以Dana和Kevin的经历为线索,讲述了公益烧伤营为烧伤儿童提供支持的故事,展现了这一社会服务项目给孩子们带来的温暖与改变。
1.细节理解题。根据第三段“The burn camp started in the 1980s. Since then, it has been offering children...a week of relief...”可知,孩子们在这个营地待一周,而不是一个月。故选C。
2.推理判断题。根据第五段“At first, he was not sure if he wanted to go to the camp...He ended up loving it...He was no longer embarrassed about the special clothes he had to wear for his scars. He was more comfortable being himself.”可知,Kevin从“不确定是否参加这个营地”到“爱上营地”,且不再因疤痕专用衣物而感到尴尬,更自在地做自己。这些变化体现了营地对他的(积极)影响。故选A。
3.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Fire Truck Day allows them to see each other in a happy situation, which is always the campers’ most unforgettable day.”
Passage9
One morning, a blind boy sat beside a building with a hat by his feet. He held a sign which said, “I am blind. Please help me.”
There were only a few coins in the hat. A man was walking by. He took out a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words on it. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by could see the new words.
Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, “Are you the one who changed my sign in the morning? What did you write?”
The man said, “I only wrote the truth. I said what you said, but in a different way.”
What he had written was, “Today is a beautiful day, but I can’t see it.”
Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?
Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply told people to help by putting some money in the hat. The second sign told people that they were able to enjoy the beautiful day, but the boy could not enjoy it because he was blind.
The first sign only told people about the boy’s difficult situation, while the second sign told people that they were so lucky because they can enjoy the beauty of the world though their eyes.
There are at least two lessons we can learn from this simple story.
The first is: “Treasure (珍惜) what you have.” Someone else has less. And try your best to help those who need your help.
The second is: “Face the world with hope.” Think differently. There is always a better way.
1.What did the man write on the sign?
A.“Treasure what we have already had.”
B.“I said what you said, but in a different way.”
C.“Today is a beautiful day, but I can’t see it.”
D.“Be creative.”
2.According to the article, which of the following is TRUE?
A.The hat began to fill up after the man wrote some words on the sign.
B.The man took away a few coins from the hat.
C.The boy always has a hat on his head.
D.The boy sat outside the man’s building to work for the man.
3.The underlined word “recognized” here in Chinese means ______.
A.承认 B.接受 C.触摸 D.认出
4.What is the main idea of this story?
A.Be careful not to be blind. B.Be kind and hopeful.
C.Take care of the blind. D.Get what you give.
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.D 4.B
【导语】本文主要讲了一个盲人小孩乞讨,一位路过的人改了他写的文字之后,很多人给男孩钱的故事。
1.细节理解题。根据“Today is a beautiful day, but I can’t see it.”可知,他写的是:“今天是美好的一天,但是我看不到。”故选C。
2.推理判断题。根据“He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words on it. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by could see the new words. Soon the hat began to fill up.”可知,那人在牌子上写了一些字后,帽子开始变满了。故选A。
3.词义猜测题。根据“The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, ‘Are you the one who changed my sign in the morning? What did you write?’”可知,那男孩听出了他的脚步声。男孩是盲人只能通过脚步辨认出,所以这里recognize的意思是“听出、认出”。故选D。
4.主旨大意题。根据“And try your best to help those who need your help.;Face the world with hope.”可知,本文告诉我们要善良和充满希望。故选B。

Volunteering is a wonderful way to help those in need and make the world a better place. It is not only about giving help, but also about gaining happiness and experience for ourselves.
There are many kinds of volunteer work for us to choose from. We can work in nursing homes to look after the elderly. They often feel lonely because their children are busy with work, so we can chat with them, sing songs for them or help them do some housework. We can also help the disabled kids in special schools. We can teach them to draw, read stories to them and encourage them to face life bravely. Besides, we can join charity activities to raise money for the homeless people or the disaster areas.
Many teenagers choose to be volunteers in their free time. They say that volunteering has changed them a lot. Before, some of them were shy and selfish, but after doing voluntary work, they become outgoing and helpful. They learn to share with others and understand the importance of caring about people around them. They also make many new friends who have the same interest in helping others.
Volunteering doesn’t need us to have special skills or a lot of money. What we need is a warm heart and a willing hand. Even a small act of kindness can bring light to someone’s life. A.Special skills and a lot of money. B.A warm heart and a willing hand.

Passage7
Before I was in Grade Three, I didn’t like to help others. I would get irritated (恼怒的) when someone asked me for help. Then things changed.
One cloudy day, when I was walking to school, I met a tall man. Carrying a long thin stick and wearing sunglasses, he stood at the crossing. I found this a little strange as it was early in the morning and yet he was wearing sunglasses. But I didn’t think much about it and crossed the road.
When I reached the other side, suddenly I heard cars sounding their horns (喇叭). I turned around and saw that the man was in the middle of the road. It seemed that he was too scared to move. Just then, I knew that the man wasn’t able to see. I ran quickly back to him and helped him cross the road. The man turned his head to me and said, “Thank you very much for your kind help.”
It made me feel good to hear those words. In fact, I felt so good that I asked him where he was going and if he needed more help. He told me that he was going to a supermarket, which was not far from my school. I walked with him to the supermarket and then went to school.
From that day on, I often tried to help people in need. And now, I volunteer to help out at the old people’s home in front of my home every Sunday afternoon. Being helpful makes me happy and I no longer find it irritating.
