My View on Facing and Getting Over DifficultyDear Alice,
I am so happy to talk with you about my view on facing and getting over difficulty.
We often meet with difficulty in our study or daily life. In my opinion, we should not get worried or even be afraid of facing difficulty. We should face difficulties bravely and confidently.
Let me share my experience with you. I didn’t pass the mid-term examination of Maths last year. I was quite worried and upset for some days when I got the result. But I didn’t give up and asked my teacher and classmates for advice on how to learn Maths well. With their help, I worked hard at Maths and did well in the final Maths exam that year. Since then, I have become more and more interested in Maths.
From this experience, I come to know that as long as we face difficulty bravely and try our best to get it over, we will succeed in the end. Let’s become brave and confident in the face of difficulties in our study or everyday life. Don’t you agree with me?
Yours,
LiHua

【原文】Dear Mr. Friend,
My name is Simon, and I am in Grade 9. I am crazy about football. I love watching football, reading about football, and, of course, playing football. However, my love of football has become the cause of my problem. I always play football with my friends after school. We often play for hours and never worry about the time. Sometimes we forget when we should stop. Then I get into trouble because my parents do not allow me to play outside after 6 p.m. I do not understand why they are so strict with me. I feel angry sometimes. I believe it is important to develop our hobbies. They help us relax and make our lives more interesting. Is it bad to stay out late to play football? Should I spend less time on it? I wonder how I can achieve a balance between my schoolwork and my hobbies. I look forward to your valuable advice.
Best wishes,
Simon

Everybody knows how important it is for students to get a good night’s sleep every night. You aren’t able to do your best and keep up with all of your tasks unless you sleep well. I’m sure you already know that you should go to bed at a proper hour. Most experts agree that the best number of hours is eight, and this has been accepted as common sense. However, I was young once and I know that most of you get much less sleep than that—and in some cases it will influence your schoolwork.
I read an interesting article in a teacher’s magazine recently. They did a study of 848 students in Wales. Worryingly, the results showed that teenagers are facing a new problem. They may go to bed and get up at suitable times, but a growing number are waking up in the middle of the night, not to use the bathroom or have a snack but because of a new phenomenon (现象): FOMO—Fear Of Missing Out!
According to the article, schoolchildren are suffering because of a growing trend (趋势) to wake up during the night to check their phones. Afraid of missing a reply or chance to join in a chat, teenagers are waking at all times of the night, going online. All this happens when they should be sound asleep.
Experts are worried about this growing trend and the report shows some worrying facts that I’d like to share with you:
»23% of 12 to 15-year-olds wake up nearly every night to use phones. Another 15% wake up at night once a week for the same reason.
»One in three students are always tired and unable to study well.
»Students who use phones during the night are more possible to suffer from depression (抑郁) and anxiety.
So switch off your phones at night. The world won’t end. I give you my word that you won’t miss anything important.

A.have too much homework every day B.get a good night’s sleep every night

A.what an expert has told him B.what he is seeing with his pupils
C.what he has read in the magazine D.what other teachers have told him
39.Research shows that schoolchildren are tired because they ________.
A.are going to bed very late B.are eating snacks at night
C.are getting up too early in the morning D.are waking up in the middle of the night
40.Fear Of Missing Out is ________.
A.a feeling of not going out at night B.a fear of missing the newest phones
C.a feeling of not keeping up with your tasks D.a fear of missing chances of chatting online

The year 2025 is the 120th birthday of Chinese movies. At the 38th Golden Rooster Awards in Xiamen on November 15, Yi Yangqianxi made history. He won the Best Actor award for his role in the movie Big World. He was only 24 years and 11 months old, making him the first actor born after the year 2000 to win this prize.
In the movie, Yi played a teenager named Liu Chunhe who has cerebral palsy (脑瘫). This role was very different from his past characters. He worked very hard to show the boy’s feelings and thoughts. The judges said his acting was “powerful and full of true emotion”. This was the fourth time Yi was nominated for this award. Before this, he was nominated for his roles in Better Days, A Little Red Flower, and Nice View.
Yi’s success is part of the bigger story of Chinese movies. From the first silent movie in 1905 to today’s big films, Chinese cinema keeps growing. As a young actor, Yi shows this spirit. He chooses difficult roles and works hard to improve. In his winning speech, he said he wants to “earn the audience’s respect through good work”. His story teaches us that success needs hard work and courage.

For young people who grow up in villages, a job in the city sounds good. But Ning Fenfang, 34, left the big city to be a farmer.
In 2017, she left her job in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, and went back to her hometown of Cili County in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province. At that time, much of the farmland there was deserted. Seeing this, Ning decided to be a farmer. She started with growing rice and oilseed rape (油菜) in 2020. She rented the land and hired villagers to work it.
Ning now farms more than 66.7 hectares of land. More than 300 housewives have worked part-time on her land, each making more than 10,000 yuan per year.
“It’s never easy,” said Ning. At first, many people didn’t understand her decision. Farming is often seen as an “unsuitable” job for both the post-90s generation and women in general. Also, she lacked enough farming knowledge. However, Ning loved farming.
“When you’re tired, you can stop and rest and do what you want to do. Every day, you can embrace nature, which is the poetry and far afield (诗和远方) that many people hope for,” Ning told the People’s Courts News and Communication Agency.
Ning has tried to turn farming into a “fashionable” job. Rather than depending on farmers, she advises mechanized (机械化) farming, which means using high-tech machines. She also plans to provide children living in cities with a chance to experience farming.
Ning feels responsible for farmers. Recently she has suggested that the agricultural insurance (农业保险) plans should include greenhouses, as freezing rain hit her hometown and caused losses to farmers in the winter of 2023.
46.Why did Ning decide to become a farmer?
A.To make money. B.To live a quiet life.
C.To realize her dream. D.To make use of the deserted farmland.
47.How did people feel about Ning’s decision at first?
A.Happy. B.Puzzled. C.Surprised. D.Worried.
48.What does the underlined word “lacked” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.学习 B.准备 C.缺少 D.掌握
49.What can we learn from Ning’s words in Paragraph 5?
A.Farming brings her great pleasure. B.It's tiring to take up farming.
C.She needs to take a rest. D.Many people hope to be farmers.
50.What is Ning like according to the last two paragraphs?
A.Friendly and humorous. B.Creative and responsible.
C.Strict and hard-working. D.Brave and careful.

Are you worried that nobody can take nice photos for you when you are travelling? At this time, you can turn to “travel-along photographers”.
51 Because of the development of the travel market, “travel-along photographers” have grown in popularity.
Rui Changchang is one of the “travel-along photographers” in Universal Studios (环球影城) in Beijing. “You can see families, couples, and friends here all the time,” Rui said. Every day, Rui takes photos of them. 52 “Whenever I ask parents to look at their kids instead of the camera, I could always see the light in their eyes.”

Chen Ming is a stand-up comedy (脱口秀) actor from Xiamen, Fujian. At age 13, doctors told him that he had a rare disease (罕见疾病) called Stargardt disease. The disease stole his vision little by little. As he grew up, he would have very poor vision and even could see nothing at all. But he didn’t let it steal his joy. He found a way to turn it into laughter.
