A
Dear Sun Meng,
In your last email, you asked me how to deal with stress and worries. One good way that many students in my country find helpful is using a worry box. Let me explain how to make and use one.
Try using a worry box Make a special box
Use colourful things and pictures to make your worry box. Here is a picture of my worry-eating monster (怪兽) box!
Write down your worries. Take some pieces of paper and write down your worries.
Rate (评价) your worries and store them in the box. If you like, place each worry on a scale (等级) from 1 to 10. 1 means“a little worried” and 10 means “the most worried”. For example, today I put two worries into the box. I rated “losing my new bike” as a 7 and “worrying about the maths exam” as a 4.
Talk it out. Make sure to make some time every day or week to talk about your worries with your parents. Together, you can find ways to deal with them.
Remember, it’s not healthy to carry worries around in your head. The worry box provides a safe place to “share” your worries. By using it, you’ll learn to deal with your worries.
Take care!
Yours,
Anna

One afternoon, Heidi and Clara were sitting in the garden of the grand house in Frankfurt. Clara, who had to sit in a wheelchair because of her disability, looked at Heidi with a sad expression.
“I wish I could run and play like you, Heidi,” Clara said. “I’ve never been able to walk, and the doctors said I never would.”
Heidi felt sorry for her friend, “But there must be something we can do! The mountains made me strong—maybe they could help you too.”
Clara shook her head, “Papa said the mountains are too far away, and the journey would be too difficult for me.”
Just then, Clara’s strict teacher, Ms. Rottenmeier, appeared. She frowned (皱眉) at Heidi, “What are you two talking about? Clara, you should be resting, not wasting your energy on silly dreams.” Heidi stood up, her face red with anger, “It’s not a silly dream. Clara could get better if she just tried!”
Ms. Rottenmeier’s eyes narrowed, “How dare you speak to me like that! You’re here to be a partner to Clara, not to fill her head with rubbish.”
Clara looked down, her hands shaking, “Please, don’t fight. I don’t want to cause trouble.” Heidi went down on her knees beside Clara’s wheelchair. “You’re not causing trouble. I just want to help you.”
Ms. Rottenmeier crossed her arms, “Enough of this! Heidi, go to your room and think about your behaviour. Clara, it’s time for your medicine.”
Heidi didn’t want to do so, but Clara gave her a small nod. Unwillingly (不情愿地), Heidi walked back into the house, her heart heavy. She didn’t understand why no one believed that Clara could get better. She thought of the fresh mountain air and the freedom she had felt there. If only Clara could experience it too.

①There is a famous expression in English “Stop the world, I want to get off!” This expression is actually about a feeling of stress, which makes a person want to stop whatever they are doing. Why not try to relax? “Stress” means pressure. It is one of the most common causes of health problems in modern life. Too much stress results in physical, emotional, and mental health problems.
②There are plenty of physical effects of stress. Stress can affect the heart. It can make the heart beat faster or miss beats, and can also cause high blood pressure. Stress can cause a person to breathe too fast and can also result in stomach hurts and digesting (消化) problems. These are a few examples of illnesses resulting from stress.
③Emotions are also easily affected by stress. People who have too much stress often feel worried and tired. When people are under stress, they often overreact (反应过度) to little problems. For example, a normally gentle parent under a lot of stress at work may shout at a child for dropping a glass of juice. Stress can make people angry or nervous easily.

Being unable to sleep well are sometimes caused by stress and are often made worse by stress. If stress continues, then one’s mental health is at risk.

Ibuprofen ( 布洛芬), as a medicine, is normally to help with pain. But can you guess what “electronic (电子的) ibuprofen” is?
★ However, it is often healing (治愈的) and interesting videos or cartoons that can make people feel relaxed and warm when people watch. After the cartoons become popular, the characters in them will always become the toys in the blind boxes. Then young people often buy them to look for small surprises in a busy world.
Take the popular cartoon Nezha for example. In this cartoon, Nezha proves (证明) that he isn’t a monster (怪物) but a hero. He shows that it doesn’t matter what others think of you—what really matters is who you choose to be. People loved the cartoon because it made them feel brave and happy. Soon, it became even more popular through funny pictures and partnerships (合伙) with some toy stores. Other stores like Jellycat and Labubu also give similar fun. They make toys that are not only fun to play with but also offer comfort and make people feel good inside.
Most people buy these toys for relaxation, but these toys do more than just bring happiness. They also help people get away from everyday pressure and get to know others who share the same interests. This builds friendships and makes people feel part of a group. In a world full of pressure, this “electronic ibuprofen” tells us that finding small happiness can be enough to keep going forward.
12.Which sentence can we put in “ ★ ”?

C.It isn’t a kind of real medicine for people to take.
D.It both looks like and works like medicine.
13.What is the right order of the events according to Paragraph 2?

③Cartoons become popular.
A.②①③ B.③①② C.①②③ D.③②①
14.Which of the following is an example of “electronic ibuprofen” according to the passage?

Take care!
Yours,
Anna

“I wish I could run and play like you, Heidi,” Clara said. “I’ve never been able to walk, and the doctors said I never would.”
Heidi felt sorry for her friend, “But there must be something we can do! The mountains made me strong—maybe they could help you too.”
Clara shook her head, “Papa said the mountains are too far away, and the journey would be too difficult for me.”

Heidi didn’t want to do so, but Clara gave her a small nod. Unwillingly (不情愿地), Heidi walked back into the house, her heart heavy.
④Long-term stress can lead to different kinds of serious mental illnesses. Depression (抑郁), a terrible feeling of sadness and hopelessness, can be the result of continued and increasing stress.
