[团队协作的真谛]When the school announced the “Interclass Environmental Project” competition, 15yearold Lily was excited. She loved nature and immediately volunteered to lead her class team. “We'll definitely win! I have a perfect plan to make a recycling bin with old materials,” she told her classmates confidently.
At the first team meeting, Lily talked for 20 minutes about her plan. When Tom, a quiet boy in the class, tried to suggest,“Maybe we can add a small screen to show how much waste each bin collects?” Lily cut him off. “That's too complicated. My plan is simple and sure to work,” she said. Later, Emma wanted to share ideas about decorating the bin with ecofriendly paint, but Lily shook her head. “Decoration isn't important. The judges care about function, not looks,” she explained.
Weeks passed. Lily worked late every day, gluing and cutting old cardboard. But other team members seemed uninterested. Tom stopped coming to meetings, and Emma only helped for 10 minutes each time. When the deadline came, Lily's recycling bin looked messy and she had to finish it alone. On the presentation day, other classes showed projects made by their whole teams: one had a smart bin(just like Tom's idea!), and another had a beautifully painted bin(similar to Emma's suggestion). Their classmates cheered loudly for those teams.
Lily stood in front of her bin, feeling sad. Suddenly, her teacher Ms Brown walked over. “Lily, do you know why other projects succeeded?” she asked gently. Lily shook her head. “A team isn't about one person's perfect plan,” Ms Brown said. “It's about listening to everyone, combining ideas, and supporting each other. That's how we grow, not just as a team, but as people.”That night, Lily wrote a note to her team. She apologized for not listening to their ideas and asked if they wanted to improve the bin together for the school's environmental week. The next day, Tom and Emma smiled and said “yes”. This time, Lily sat down with them, took out a notebook, and wrote down every idea carefully.
