六、阅读理解。
[物理]Electricity plays an important role in our daily lives. We use it for lighting, cooking, studying, and many other things. But for middle school students, it's also important to know how to use electricity safely to avoid accidents.
When using electrical appliances like computers, lamps, or fans, we should make sure they are in good condition. Check the power cords(电源线)regularly to see if there are any damages. If you find a frayed(磨损的)cord or a broken plug, don't use the appliance. Instead, tell your parents or a responsible adult so that it can be repaired or replaced.
Another important rule is to never touch electrical sockets with wet hands. Water is a good conductor of electricity. If your hands are wet and you touch a socket, you could get an electric shock. Also, don't try to put any objects into sockets(插座). This can cause shortcircuits and may start a fire.
When using a power strip(电源板), don't overload it. Plugging too many electrical appliances into one power strip can make the wires overheat. Overheating wires are a fire hazard(危害,灾害). If you need to use multiple appliances at the same time, it's better to use several power strips or spread them out among different sockets in the room.
In case of a power outage, don't try to fix the problem yourself. Wait for the power company or a professional electrician to handle it. Also, if you see a fallen power line on the ground, stay away from it. Even if it looks harmless, it could still be carrying electricity.
By following these simple safety rules, middle school students can use electricity safely and enjoy the convenience it brings.
