Before we start learning, I want you to watch a video to think about this question:Words or war— which do you think is more powerful? 【设计意图】通过问题Words or war— which do you think is more powerful? 激发学生的阅读兴趣及探究问题答案的欲望。 Step2.Lead in From this video,we all know that war is cruel.No matter who you are, you are not immune from the war.Back to my question:Words or war— which do you think is more powerful?We already know that The brutal killing of life by war is a serious violation of human nature.The power of war is not strong,it is more like a ruthless executioner.How about words?There is an international organization which tries to prevent war by words.Do you know its name? 【设计意图】通过展示联合国相关动画/图片显示战争的残酷,批判战争。 Step3.Presentation T:Yes,the United Nations,called the UN.Now let’s read this passage together! 1.(显示文章第一段 小标题 The origin of the UN) T:The first paragraph: The origin of the UN {In the early twentieth century, people suffered through many wars. When World War II was over, an organization called the United Nations (the UN) was formed to help countries to talk about their problems instead of fighting. The headquarters of the UN is in New York City. The head of the UN, chosen by all the member states, is called the Secretary-General. One of its jobs is to protect important cultural sites. Just imagine how difficult it is to satisfy all 193 members! However, the UN is still the best way for the world to solve its problems. Let's hope that the great idea they had in 1945 to prevent war will last forever. 讲解:satisfy v.使满意,满足 The proposed plan will not satisfy everyone. satisfied 过去式,过去分词,形容词 be satisfied with sb/sth 对某人/某事感到满足 She's never satisfied with what she's got. Now Let’s try to translate this sentence:我们对这些结果并不满意。 We are not satisfied with these results. However adv.然而,不过(表转折) Do you know the differences between “However”and“but”? Let’s see these sentences and try to conclude them. However:(1)He was feeling bad. He went to work,however, and tried to concentrate. (2)But that's not possible!(展示标黄的片段) However:副词,可位于句首,句中,必须用逗号与句子隔开。 But:连词,可位于句首,句中,后面连接一个句子无需用逗号隔开。 prevent vt.预防;阻止 vi妨碍;阻止 prevent/stop sb/sth (from)doing sth 防止某人/某物做某事 We must prevent the trouble from spreading. 【设计意图】通过第四段的阅读,学生能够体会到:即使是联合国,也不是万能的,也不能解决所有国家的矛盾,不能满足所有国家的意愿。但是即使是这样的,联合国也是唯一一个最好的,能解决世界问题的。 T:Although the UN cannot meet every country in solving national conflicts, the UN is still the best way to solve world problems. 5.(总结) Back to our first question again:Words or war— which do you think is more powerful?At the end of this passage tells us the answer,that is,Words-even angry words-are always better than war!From this UN’s experience,what can we learn? The era of peace is hard-won(来之不易的). It is because different member states seek common ground while shelving differences(求同存异) and live in peace that we are here today!We need to keep the peace and stay away from war.
