Don’t you think that we have lost enough? We have lost most of natural resources, and now we are going to lose animals!
Natural competition happens when species (物种) compete for food and living places. An example of an animal species affected by this is the dinosaur that die out.
We have caused animals to be in danger too. The pollution that we create destroys many animals’ living places like the sea turtle. Over hunting is also a huge threat. When people over hunt, they catch too many of an animal species, so either not many animals are left, or no animals are left at all. Examples of some overhunted animals are the Bali tiger. Cutting down trees is also very dangerous for animals. It leaves them with no place to live, such as many species in the Amazon Rainforest.
Many organizations such as WWF (World Wildlife Fund) are doing something to protect animals and the environment. They try to protect the living places of many endangered animals. They do studies on the species and they educate people. Zoos also help. They let many endangered species live in a healthy and safe environment. Sometimes zoos might even let an endangered animal go back into the wild to try to raise population numbers again.
Not only the big organizations but also you can help. You can give away money or you can volunteer, or you can do the simplest thing of all—CARE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT!
36. What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. The pollution. B. Natural competition. C. The waste of food. D. The less living space.

For millions of years, humans are using natural resources, such as hunting animals for food and using wood to create shelter. As a result, biodiversity (生物多样性) is being lost at a rapid speed and pollution is harming the earth. Now we need to act fast to change the things.
However, the present laws are not working. So the Rights of Nature (RoN) program goes further. It aims to give legal rights (法律权利) to wildlife and nature, treating them as persons. Some believe this is useful to reduce humans’ harm to nature. However, some people argue that it’s useless because it can’t be put into real use. So what do you think? Should we give nature legal rights?
Group Yes
●After all, humans create these problems. That means it’s our work to fix (修复) it.
●The RoN program can offer a stronger way of dealing with the difficult situation.
●The RoN program places humans in the web of life, with wildlife and nature-equal (平等的) to them, not above.
Group No
●As the cleverest beings on Earth, it’s humans’ job to protect it, so nature doesn’t need legal rights.
●A tree can’t talk in a court (法庭) of law. Giving the same rights to nature might sound good but it wouldn’t work in practice.
●It would be far better to perfect present laws than to give nature legal rights.

A. increase natural resources. B. Hunt animals for food.
C. Create more shelter. D. Change the present situation.
42. Which of the following can best match the aim of the RoN program?
A. B. C. D.
43. What can we learn according to Group No?
A. Humans need more legal rights than nature.
B. Planting more trees can be more helpful.
C. It won’t be practical to give nature legal rights.
D. The present laws are perfect enough to help the earth.
44 What opinion do the two groups have in common (共同点)?
A. It’s necessary to treat nature as persons.
B. Humans are smarter than wildlife and nature.
C. It’s humans’ duty to fix and protect our planet.

About 80% of people do not get enough vitamin (维生素) D every day. But this vitamin is very important for your health.
Vitamin D is really important for our bones (骨骼). When we are young vitamin D builds up our bones and makes them strong. When we are older, we still need vitamin D to keep our bones strong. Our bodies keep the vitamin D in our bones and teeth. Then we lose vitamin D as we work and exercise during the day. But our bodies can’t make vitamin D. So we have to get it from outside of our bodies.
Where can a person get this very important vitamin? Vitamin D is in foods like fish and eggs. Sometimes, vitamin D is added to bread, milk, and orange juice. Food is not the only way our bodies can get vitamin D. The sun also gives us vitamin D. If we want to be healthy, we should spend some time in the sun each day. Too much sun is not good for you, but about 15 minutes a day is usually enough. And we should be sure to eat foods that are rich in vitamin D, too.

②They do some studies on the animals
③They stop people from eating meat.

C. Call for people to protect endangered animals.
