Brian is a very silly, funny student. What he loves most is to make people laugh. All his friends love his jokes, and even the teachers think he is very funny. Brian knows that comedy is what he likes best.
When he hears about the school’s talent show, he decides to sign up so that he can share his comedy from the stage. He has never done real stand-up comedy before, and he is very excited. But when some of the students find out he will take part, they laugh at him. Brian thinks it does not feel very good when someone laughs at him in a mean way!
Brian cannot understand why they are being so unkind to him. For a moment, he thinks about telling the talent show organizers he will not attend. But then he remembers how much his friends and teachers like his jokes. He makes up his mind to go ahead and prepare his comedy routine (表演) for the talent show.
Brian decides to do a great job at the talent show to prove to the mean students that they are wrong. Everyone loves his routine, and he wins first prize! Even so, the same students tell Brian he is foolish and that he will never be a successful comedian. Brian just shakes his head and wonders what their problem is. He does not understand, but he realizes that it has nothing to do with him. He happily continues to work towards his goal.
As the years go on, Brian meets more people like that. He gets more and more opportunities to perform, and he is even invited to appear on television and act in movies.

Music festivals are highly popular events during the summer months, attracting thousands of festival-goers who camp on-site. However, the question arises as to whether the tents left behind can be recycled.
While some festival organizers claim that they recycle the tents, the answer is not so straightforward. Every year, thousands of tents are thrown away at festivals, and it’s not just post-festival laziness or poor weather that is to blame. According to a recent survey, many festival-goers leave their tents behind because they believe they will be donated to charities. But unfortunately, this is only wishful thinking.
Matt Wedge, the director of Festival Waste Reclamation & Distribution, says that the number of tents left behind is increasing, estimating that around 20% of the tents at Leeds Festival were thrown away, which amounted to about 7,000 tents. He adds that the number of abandoned tents in Reading and Leicester festivals doubles, meaning that 14,000 tents could have been thrown away.
In terms of addressing this problem, one popular idea is to employ a tent deposit scheme (押金方案). Under this scheme, festival-goers would pay a deposit to bring their tent to the festival, which would be returned to them if they take their tent home. “A similar thing happens with litter. Some festivals make attendees (参加者) pay a £10 ‘eco bond’, which will be returned to them if they fill up a bag of rubbish and hand it in at the end of the festival,” Wedge says.
The shocking images of abandoned tents are more than just a comment on the environmental impacts of the festival itself. They are in fact a dramatic symbol of our throwaway culture. Just as images of clean fields at Glastonbury represent a refreshing sign of hope, the final message is to make it a habit to take your tent home at least. It’s the best thing people can do.
8. Why are tents left behind after music festivals according to the recent survey?
A. Most of the tents are of poor quality.
B. Some people are too lazy to take the tents home.
C. Poor weather makes it difficult to recycle the tents.
D Many people mistakenly think the tents will be donated.
9. What can we learn from the numbers listed in paragraph 3?
A. There is an increasing demand for tents.
B. A large number of tents are thrown away.
C. Making tents needs a fair amount of energy.
D. Festival tickets are more expensive than tents.
10. What’s paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. How charities deal with the tents.
B. How to attract more festival-goers.
C. How to reduce rubbish and tents after festivals.
D. How people view rubbish and tents at festivals.
11. What does the author intend to do by writing the text?
A. Stress the importance of music festivals.
B. Introduce popular music festivals in the world.
C. Make people pay attention to the quality of tents.
D. Call on people to protect the environment at festivals.

I remember it like it was yesterday. My freshman year basketball tryouts (选拔赛) had gone surprisingly well. I completed every pass and earned a spot as a solid bench player (替补球员). Then this happened — I missed an easy shot totally for no reason. The next day I got cut from the team.
“Fail fast and fail often.” The startup world is filled with statements like this. In technology and entrepreneurship (企业家) circles, failure has become something to chase, not avoid. And science is starting to back this up. A Nature study found that among scientists and entrepreneurs, those who ultimately succeeded had actually failed more often than their less-successful fellows. What set them apart wasn’t luck or genius; it was their ability to learn and adapt quickly after each failure.
Sonja Lyubomirsky and Ed Diener, two leading voices in positive psychology, have shown that people who’ve experienced failure sometimes report higher levels of long-term well-being than those who haven’t. Their findings suggest that lasting happiness is fueled less by external wins, like medals or titles, and more by internal sources: purpose, meaningful relationships, and personal growth.
How can we pursue purpose without being consumed by the pain of failure? My suggestion is to rethink purpose, especially “little purpose”, which is about the process, not the outcome. Say you dream of becoming a best-selling writer. That’s wonderful. But even if the book doesn’t make it onto the New York Times list, the act of writing it, of shaping your story, can still be deeply fulfilling.
Perhaps my basketball setback could have been redefined (重新定义). Instead of quitting the team entirely, maybe I could have applied to be the equipment manager. I would have stayed close to the sport I loved, and found meaning without needing to be a top athlete. When success isn’t narrowly defined, failure doesn’t close the door. It opens new ones. In this way, failure truly becomes the new success.
12. Why is the author’s basketball experience mentioned in paragraph 1?
A. To describe the pain of failure. B. To criticize unfair selection system.
C. To introduce the topic of failure. D. To express regret about his performance.
13. What does the study in Nature suggest about successful people?
A. They are more likely to fail. B. They are less adaptable to failure.
C. They gain valuable lessons from failure. D. They work in the field of high-tech.
14. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A. The short-term joy of success. B. The source of lasting happiness.
C. The most rewarding way of living. D. The balance of feeling good and failure.
15. What is the best title for this text?
A Why Failure Is the New Success
B. How to Get a Sense of Achievement
C. The Role of Purpose in Personal Growth
D. Humans Learn Better from Direct Experience

How to Build Good Study Habits
Developing good study habits is essential for academic success. It not only helps you learn more effectively but also reduces stress during exams. Here are some practical tips to get you started:
1. Set a fixed study schedule
Our brains work best when we follow a routine. ____16____ For example, you could study math from 7:00 to 8:30 every evening and English in the morning. Stick to your schedule as much as possible, even on weekends.
2. Create a comfortable study space
Find a quiet, well-lit area where you can focus without distractions. ____17____ Make sure your study space has all the supplies you need, such as books, notebooks, and stationery. Avoid studying in bed or on the couch, as these places are associated with relaxation.
3. Break tasks into smaller pieces
Large assignments or study goals can feel overwhelming. ____18____ Instead of trying to finish an entire textbook chapter in one sitting, split it into sections and deal with one at a time. This will make your tasks more manageable and help you stay motivated.
4. Take regular breaks
Studying for hours without stopping can lead to fatigue (疲劳) and reduced concentration. ____19____ During your break, stretch, drink water, or take a short walk — avoid using your phone or watching TV, as these activities can make it harder to get back to studying.
5. Review and reflect regularly
Learning doesn’t end when you finish studying. ____20____ Review your notes within 24 hours of learning new materials, and reflect on what you’ve learned. This will help strengthen the information in your memory and identify areas where you need more practice.
With continuous effort, these habits will become second nature and help you achieve your academic goals.
A. This helps your brain get into “study mode” at the right time.
B. It’s important to take short breaks every 45-60 minutes.
C. Many students struggle with maintaining focus during study sessions.
D. Breaking them down into smaller, specific tasks makes a big difference.
E. A cluttered (杂乱的) environment can make it hard to concentrate.
F. You should also ask your teachers for feedback on your progress.
G. Regular review is key to a long-term memory of knowledge.

第二节 (满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As I was 11, big brother Levon and I were allowed to have a whole week at the Jersey Shore. Levon excitedly mentioned the huge dolphin we had observed before. When we got the telescope and went downstairs, Levon’s friend Griffin was standing near the front door. Next to him was a suitcase. Levon shrugged (耸肩) and told me Griffin would be joining us on our journey. My stomach bottomed out as Levon led Griffin inside.
“My parents are flying Louis to Colorado to meet a new doctor,” he said, sounding pretty sad. I almost forgot that his brother often went to the doctor.
Soon we piled into the car. A few hours later, we were bathed in the sunshine on the beach. We wanted to cheer up Griffin, but he didn’t seem excited about any of the things we liked: bodysurfing, beach volleyball, flying kites.
The next day, we rented bikes and pedaled over to the light house to check out the birds. The seagulls (海鸥), like mini helicopters, hovered (盘旋) and then-bam! -dove into the water. We identified an amazing bird, but Griffin couldn’t care less.
When I suggested going up the lighthouse, Griffin shook his head, citing fear of heights. Before I could drop my bike and run ahead, Levon shot me a look that signaled me not to leave Griffin behind. I agreed, trying to sound cheerful. When we went hunting for sea glass, I scored a light blue and a bunch of greens to add to our collection. Griffin didn’t even try to find any.
Finally, on Thursday morning, I had Levon alone for a second, and I broke down. “Griffin is ruining everything!” “Shhh! Give him a break,” Levon whispered. “Charlie. Imagine what he’s going through.”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

第四部分 写作 (共两节,满分40分)
第一节 书面表达 (满分15分)
【46题答案】
【答案】Dear Alex,
It’s great to hear about your interest in Chinese festivals. I believe the Mid-Autumn Festival best reflects the value of family reunion.
This tradition is not just about eating; it represents a deep cultural belief that just as the moon is fullest on this night, families should also be whole. Even in modern life, it remains a cherished pause for emotional reconnection. While similar to Christmas in its focus on family, the Mid-Autumn Festival draws more on nature’s rhythm than religious tradition. If you ever visit China during this time, I suggest joining a local family for a moon-viewing evening — it’s the best way to feel its true warmth.
Hope this helps!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 (满分25分)
【47题答案】
【答案】例文
I walked out of the room and threw myself onto my bed. After taking a deep breath, I tried to put myself in Griffin’s place. Scary thoughts began to crash in my mind, like violent waves crashing on a stormy night. It dawned on me that despite our efforts to help Griffin, we might not have really reached his heart. With this realization, I walked over to Griffin and gently inquired, “Griffin, what do you wish to do?”. He turned his head, a hint of surprise in his gaze, but more than that, an imperceptible gratitude. That day, we went to the beach and built sand sculptures. Although Griffin’s face didn’t show too much excitement, I could see the attempt and fascination in his eyes.
That night Griffin got a text from his brother saying that he would be cured. Overjoyed, Griffin exclaimed, “Best day ever!” Then he apologized to us for almost ruining the day. “We’re both pleased about your brother’s good news,” I said and Griffin responded with a warm hug. In order to share our happiness with Louis, I proposed that we take something back as a souvenir for him. Then, Griffin and Levon found a bottle and filled it with beach treasures, including a seagull feather and a piece of red sea glass. “Since Louis can’t be here at the beach,” Levon said, holding up the bottle and shaking it. “We’ll bring the beach to him!” A bright smile lit up Griffin’s face.
