In Old Delhi, when the sun sets, whistles and shouts rise from roofs as flocks of pigeons (鸽子) take to the sky. This scene, known as kabootarazi, dates back to ancient courts (宫廷) and reached its height under the Mughal rulers. More than a pastime, it is a living tradition that expresses identity and belonging. For centuries, it has been passed down from father to son, forming a strict system in which the most skilled are honored as masters. Yet, this male-dominated world has been reshaped by one remarkable woman, Shaheen Parveen.
Parveen is the only female pigeon keeper in Delhi. By day, she is a wife, a mother, and a grandmother. But in the evening, she climbs to her rooftop, tending to her pigeons with care. She checks their health, prepares a special grain mix, and trains them through calls and gestures. Her voice, sharp and confident, often rises above the chorus of men around her, drawing neighbors to watch. “They are like my children,” she says. “Without them, I feel unwell.”
Her journey has not been easy. Encouraged by her father but opposed by her brother and criticized by neighbors, she faced doubts about whether a woman should take part in kabootarazi. Still, she kept on, driven by passion. Her turning point came when her pigeons won a major race against seasoned trainers, earning her applause, gifts, and respect from the people in this area. “It felt like India had won the World Cup,” Parveen recalls with a smile.
Today, respected pigeon keepers support her with feed and medicine, while travelers and social media creators flood to witness the ancient sport. Through Parveen, the tradition lives on, enriched with new meaning. As night falls, she calls her birds, and they return swiftly. “They know my voice, and I know theirs,” she says. This lasting tie shows the heart of kabootarazi: a tradition of culture, strength, and love that continues to rise.
4. What can be inferred about kabootarazi?
A. It dates back to ancient grassroots.
B. It involves training and racing pigeons.
C. It is nothing but a job of selling pigeons.
D. It has been passed down among females.
5. Which best describes Parveen’s feeling towards pigeons?

6. What did pigeons’ win bring for Parveen?
A. Criticism from seasoned trainers.
B. Recognition from her community.
C. A desire to win more Indian races.
D. A chance to attend the World Cup.
7. What does the last paragraph stress about kabootarazi?
A. Its disappearance. B. Its operation rules.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is known for solving problems and answering questions, but can it handle emotionally sensitive situations? A team of researchers from the University of Geneva and the University of Bern tested six advanced AI systems, including a popular chatbot, using emotional intelligence tests designed for humans. The results were surprising: These AIs performed better than the average human and even created new emotional intelligence tests in a short time. This discovery suggests that AI can be useful in areas like teaching, personal coaching, and resolving conflicts.
The study focused on how well AI could respond to emotionally charged scenarios. For example, one test presented a dilemma: What should Michael do after finding that a colleague had stolen his project idea and later received public praise for it? The options included arguing with the colleague, talking to a manager, silently feeling upset, or taking a similarly underhanded step in return. A proper answer was to talk to a manager. Researchers compared the AI’s answers to those of human participants. On average, the AI scored 82% correct answers, while humans achieved only 56%. This shows that AI not only understands emotions but also knows how to act with emotional intelligence.
In another part of the study, researchers asked the chatbot to create new emotional intelligence tests. These tests were given to over 400 people, who found them just as clear and realistic as traditional tests that took years to develop. Marcello Mortillaro, a senior scientist at the University of Geneva, explained that this ability proves AI has emotional knowledge and can think about feelings logically.
These findings suggest that AI could assist in areas once thought to require the human ability, such as education or conflict resolution. However, experts stress that AI should still be guided and monitored by humans. While AI may not feel emotions itself, its ability to understand and reason about them opens exciting possibilities for the future.
8. What is the researchers’ view on AI’s emotional intelligence?
A. It’s lower than the average human’s. B. It’s the first breakthrough in research.
C. It’s unreliable in real-world applications. D. It’s a tool for improving human skills.
9. What does the underlined word “underhanded” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Fast and correct. B. Public and direct.
C. Secret and dishonest. D. Complex and misunderstood.
10. Why does the author mention the tests created by the chatbot?
A To underscore humans’ logical thinking.
B. To prove traditional testing’s drawbacks.
C. To argue for AI’s overall advantage in studies.
D. To provide evidence for a scientific conclusion.
11. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. A New Study Questions the Usefulness of AI
B. AI Advances into Human Emotional Intelligence
C. The Emotional Conflict Between AI and Humans
D. The Challenges of Teaching AI About Human Feelings
【答案】8. D 9. C 10. D 11. B

Spanish scientist Pilar Bosch has found a way to use bacteria to repair 18th-century paintings. Bosch a microbiologist, says that she got the idea for the method while considering possibilities for a paper toward her doctoral degree. During this process, she discovered someone else’s paper that suggested bacteria could be used to restore artworks.
At around the same time, Bosch learned that her mother was struggling to find a good method for restoring 18th-century paintings. The paintings, by Spanish artist Antonio Palomino, sat in Santos Juanes, one of the oldest churches in the city of Valencia. Bosch said her mother noted how difficult the restoration process at the church was. One reason was the glue (胶水) on the wall paintings in the 1960s. The substance was nearly impossible to remove completely.
“My mother had a very difficult problem to solve, and I found a paper about bacteria used to clean wall paintings in Italy,” Bosch said. She decided to write her doctoral paper on the same subject. That was more than ten years ago.
Today, Bosch gets to work with her mother on the church restoration. They are using the bacteria method to remove glue from artworks. The $4.46 million project is being financed by local organizations.
The process involves feeding small amounts of the glue — made from animal protein — to the bacteria. After a time, the bacteria begin to naturally produce matters to break down the glue. The mother-daughter team then mixes the bacteria with a natural substance based on algae (海藻), called a gel (凝胶), and places it onto the paintings. They say that after about three hours, the gel mixture is removed, leaving the paintings glue-free.
Bosch’s mother observed that in the past, restorers of artworks had to use traditional cleaning methods that took hours and damaged the painting. She pointed out that several other relatives in the family also work in art restoration. Bosch agreed, saying the work certainly runs in the family.
12. What difficulty did Bosch’s mother have in restoring the paintings?
A. Cleaning their surface.
B. Determining their ages.
C. Removing the bacteria from them.
D. Finding the methods for storing them.
13. Which proverb matches Bosch’s doctoral decision?
A. All roads lead to Rome. B. Knowledge starts with practice.
C. Kill two birds with one stone. D. Actions speak louder than words.
14. What does paragraph 5 mainly show about the paintings?
A. The process of removing glue from them.
B. The process of algae’s formation on them.
C. The process of funding the restoration of them.
D. The process of animal protein’s break-down on them.
15. What can we learn about Bosch’s engagement in art restoration?
A. It takes many hours.
B. It uses a traditional method.
C. It is easy to damage paintings.
D. It is a family tradition.
【答案】12. A 13. C 14. A 15. D

Science and Technology Change Life
The rise of smart home devices is a vivid example of how technology reshapes daily life. In my home, we have installed voice-controlled lights that adjust brightness and color automatically.
This innovation has influenced me significantly. Primarily, it has fostered environmental awareness. By optimizing energy use, I have become more conscious of sustainable living. Furthermore, it has enhanced family time. Instead of manually adjusting lamps, we now have more leisure moments together in comfortably lit spaces.
I’ve learned to manage it as a practical tool for efficiency, not entertainment, ensuring it serves rather than distracts from real-life interactions.

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
A strange burning smell indicated the failure of my fried rice. Just the first dish made my face and clothes all covered in oil and rice. It was the first time for me to try to cook a dish. My best friend Lily had promised to help but she’d texted that evening about a family emergency. Now I was alone, facing the ultimate challenge: cooking fried rice for our weekend dinner. To make matters worse, I’d always been nervous around the stove, afraid that the oil might catch fire. Although I had learned basic kitchen safety at school, facing a real pan felt entirely different for me.
What my father said yesterday echoed in my ears, “Remember, son, cooking is just like an experiment in mixing chemical ingredients you can eat!” It was easy for him to say — he was a chemistry professor who could somehow burn water. However, my mom, a Chinese language teacher, often created culinary magic in the kitchen. She made it effortlessly, dancing between the stove and chopping board like some kind of culinary ballet dancer. “The key is preparation and patience,” she once told me. “And always taste as you go.”
But today was my turn to surprise them both. I fired up the pan again, watching the oil shine like liquid gold. The onions hit the pan with a satisfying sound, and I felt a sense of confidence. Then Lily made a video call. Seeing my face, she laughed, “Ha-ha, you are just like a little cat.” Then she reminded me, “Don’t forget to use the rice cooked yesterday so it’s dry enough!” My heart sank. Yesterday? I’d been so focused on the protein and vegetables that I’d completely overlooked the most basic ingredient. The rice I’d cooked this morning was still warm and sticky, completely wrong for fried rice. No wonder the first attempt at making fried rice ended in failure. I felt very panicked as I stared at the white “mound (土墩)”, imagining my parents’ disappointed faces.

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

Suddenly, a small flame even jumped from the pan.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】参考范文:
Then I thought of my mother’s recipe book. Holding it was like grasping a lifeline. I told Lily that I would try again and let her witness the miracle. “Fried rice for the ones I love,”I muttered. This time, I used leftover rice from the fridge and followed the steps in the book. I channeled my inner“culinary ballet dancer”, tossing ingredients with more hope and love. Smelling the aroma of garlic, oil, and rice being stir-fried together, I felt proud and imagined Lily’s praise for my creation. I was so lost in this victorious daydream that I didn’t notice the oil beginning to smoke.
Suddenly, a small flame even jumped from the pan. My heart leaped to my throat, but my hands remembered the drill: turn off the heat and slide the lid on. In a breath, the flame was gone, leaving only a wisp of smoke and my pounding heart. Just then, the door opened. “Something smells incredible!” my parents exclaimed. Their eyes widened as they saw me slightly smoky but standing tall by the stove. We gathered around the table, and as they took their first bites, their surprised smiles told me everything. Under the warm kitchen light, my once-fearful stove had become the stage for our best dinner together.

D It has been passed down among females.
5. Which best describes Parveen’s feeling towards pigeons?
A. Attached. B. Annoyed. C. Curious. D. Uneasy.
C. The importance of preserving it. D. The lack of attention to it.

For example one test presented a dilemma: What should Michael do after finding that a colleague had stolen his project idea and later received public praise for it?

Spanish scientist Pilar Bosch has found a way to use bacteria to repair 18th-century paintings. Bosch, a microbiologist, says that she got the idea for the method while considering possibilities for a paper toward her doctoral degree.

A strange burning smell indicated the failure of my fried rice. Just the first dish made my face and clothes all covered in oil and rice. It was the first time for me to try to cook a dish. My best friend Lily had promised to help, but she’d texted that evening about a family emergency.
