What should you do with that time? Below are several tips to ease (使熟悉) yourself into college life. Participating in Campus Welcome Activities Most universities host welcome events before the academic year officially begins, including freshmen orientations (迎新会), campus picnics, and entertainments like concerts. Participating in such events is a great way to learn about school facilities and understand campus culture: What do students do for fiin? What are their favorite classes? What is the history of your university? It can help you observe campus life outside the classroom. Exploring Campus Getting to know where essential campus resources are — such as the student advising center, psychological services, and the tutoring center — will make your first few weeks on campus a lot easier, because you won’t have to look for them while still getting used to your classes. Take some time to check out the buildings where your classes will be held. This will prevent you from getting lost in the first few days of classes, and familiarize you with how long it takes to get from place to place. If you’re worried about taking classes one after another in different buildings, a quick test run won’t hurt. That way, you will avoid potential time delays in getting to your classes. Starting a Routine Before getting too excited about all of the fun things you will be able to do during the week, remember that you do have a pretty big schedule change coming up. Starting classes means being in different places at different times, so it’s a great idea to start getting used to that routine right this week. What helps you most is to schedule your sleep. Following the planned time will ensure you have enough sleep to get to those early classes and stay wide awake. If you have other daily routines, such as exercising or talking on the phone with family, work those into your day-to-day life before classes start so that you get a better idea of how they fit in with your schedule. 1. By participating in campus welcome activities, freshmen can________ . A. learn about campus culture B. get their course schedule C. have a physical examination D. take an entrance test 2. Why are freshmen advised to have a quick test run between buildings ? A. To see how many facilities they can use. B. To avoid being late for future classes. C. To help those getting lost on campus. D. To practice running on their way to class. 3. When is it best for freshmen to start getting used to the new routine? A. On the first day of their classes. B. Before the orientation week. C. After their first-day classes. D. During the orientation week. B My name is Alice. Early last year, I was troubled by an anxiety that crippled ( 削弱 ) my ability to do anything. I felt like a storm cloud hung over me. For almost a year I struggled on, constantly staring at this wall that faced me. My perfectionist tendencies were the main root of this: I wanted to be perfect at whatever I did, which obviously in life is not possible, but it consumed me. One day, I attended a presentation by wildlife conservationist Grant Brown at my high school. His presentation not only awed and inspired me, but also helped emerge an inner desire to make a difference in the world. I joined a pre-presentation dinner with him and that smaller setting allowed me to slowly build up my courage to speak one-on-one with him—an idea that had seemed completely impossible. This first contact was where my story began. A month later, Brown invited me to attend the World Youth Wildlife Conference. Looking back, I now see that this would be the first in a series of timely opportunities that my old self would have let pass, but that this new and more confident Alice enthusiastically seized. Shortly after I received his invitation, applications to join the Youth for Nature and the Youth for Planet groups were sent around through my high school. I decided to commit to completing the applications, and soon I was a part of a growing global team of young people working to protect nature. Each of these new steps continued to grow my confidence. I am writing this just six months since my journey began and I’ve realised that my biggest obstacle ( 障碍 ) this whole time was myself. It was that voice in the back of my head telling me that one phrase that has stopped so many people from reaching their potential: I can’t. They say good things come to those who wait; I say: grab every opportunity with everything you have and be impatient. After all, nature does not require our patience, but our action. 4. What was the main cause for Alice’s anxiety? A. Her inability to act her age. B. Her habit of consumption. C. Her desire to be perfect. D. Her lack of inspiration. 5. How did Grant Brown’s presentation influence Alice? A. She decided to do something for nature. B. She tasted the sweetness of friendship. C. She learned about the harm of desire. D. She built up her courage to speak up. 6 The activities Alice joined in helped her to become more ________. A. intelligent B. confident C. innovative D. critical 7. What can we learn from this passage? A. Practice makes perfect. B. Patience is a cure of anxiety. C. Action is worry’s worst enemy. D. Everything comes to those who wait. C Race walking shares many fitness benefits with running, research shows, while most likely contributing to fewer injuries. It does, however, have its own problem. Race walkers are conditioned athletes. The longest track and field event at the Summer Olympics is the 50-kilometer race walk, which is about five miles longer than the marathon. But the sport’s rules require that a race walker’s knees stay straight through most of the leg swing and one foot remain in contact (接触) with the ground at all times. It’s this strange form that makes race walking such an attractive activity, however, says Jaclyn Norberg, an assistant professor of exercise science at Salem State University in Salem, Mass. Like running, race walking is physically demanding, she says, According to most calculations, race walkers moving at a pace of six miles per hour would burn about 800 calories(卡路里) per hour, which is approximately twice as many as they would burn walking, although fewer than running, which would probably burn about 1,000 or more calories per hour. However, race walking does not pound the body as much as running does, Dr. Norberg says. According to her research, runners hit the ground with as much as four times their body weight per step, while race walkers, who do not leave the ground, create only about 1.4 times their body weight with each step. As a result, she says, some of the injuries associated with running, such as runner’s knee, are uncommon among race walkers. But the sport’s strange form does place considerable stress on the ankles and hips, so people with a history of such injuries might want to be cautious in adopting the sport. In fact, anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first consult a coach or experienced racer to learn proper technique, she says. It takes some practice. 8. Why are race walkers conditioned athletes? A. They must run long distances. B. They are qualified for the marathon. C. They have to follow special rules. D. They are good at swinging their legs. 9. What advantage does race walking have over running? A. It’s more popular at the Olympics. B. It’s less challenging physically. C. It’s more effective in body building. D. It’s less likely to cause knee injuries. 10. What is Dr. Norberg’s suggestion for someone trying race walking? A. Getting experts’ opinions. B. Having a medical checkup. C. Hiring an experienced coach. D. Doing regular exercises. 11. Which word best describes the author’s attitude to race walking? A. Skeptical. B. Objective. C. Tolerant. D. Conservative. D Popularization has in some cases changed the original meaning of emotional (情感的) intelligence. Many people now misunderstand emotional intelligence as almost everything desirable in a person's makeup that cannot be measured by an IQ test, such as character, motivation, confidence, mental stability, optimism and “people skills.” Research has shown that emotional skills may contribute to some of these qualities, but most of them move far beyond skill-based emotional intelligence. We prefer to describe emotional intelligence as a specific set of skills that can be used for either good or bad purposes. The ability to accurately understand how others are feeling may be used by a doctor to find how best to help her patients, while a cheater might use it to control potential victims. Being emotionally intelligent does not necessarily make one a moral person. Although popular beliefs regarding emotional intelligence run far ahead of what research can reasonably support, the overall effects of the publicity have been more beneficial than harmful. The most positive aspect of this popularization is a new and much needed emphasis (重视) on emotion by employers, educators and others interested in promoting social well-being. The popularization of emotional intelligence has helped both the public and researchers re-evaluate the functionality of emotions and how they serve people adaptively in everyday life. Although the continuing popular appeal of emotional intelligence is desirable, we hope that such attention will excite a greater interest in the scientific and scholarly study of emotion. It is our hope that in coming decades, advances in science will offer new perspectives (视角) from which to study how people manage their lives. Emotional intelligence, with its focus on both head and heart, may serve to point us in the right direction. 12. What is a common misunderstanding of emotional intelligence? A. It can be measured by an IQ test. B. It helps to exercise a person’s mind. C. It includes a set of emotional skills. D. It refers to a person’s positive qualities. 13. Why does the author mention “doctor” and “cheater” in paragraph 2? A. To explain a rule. B. To clarify a concept. C. To present a fact. D. To make a prediction. 14. What is the author’s attitude to the popularization of emotional intelligence? A. Favorable. B. Intolerant. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear. 15. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about concerning emotional intelligence? A. Its appeal to the public. B. Expectations for future studies. C. Its practical application. D. Scientists with new perspectives. During your initial reading of material, do you ever go back and reread sentences or paragraphs? Is it because the material is too difficult to comprehend on the first reading or because you are asleep? ____16____ You are napping (打盹) or daydreaming. Halfway down the page you realize that you have no idea what you have read. ____17____ Thus, you go back and reread, not because you did not understand, but because you were not paying attention. Skateboarding had always been his favorite sport and lifelong passion, and his love of skating helped him build a community where he truly belonged. Everything changed one day when Nick was suddenly paralysed (瘫痪的) by Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), a rare condition where the nervous system got attacked. What started as a sore muscle in his leg quickly turned into a medical emergency. He spent 13 weeks in intensive care at a hospital and seven months in recovery. Everything that once felt natural had to be learned all over again, like moving, standing, or even lifting his hands. Being unable to skateboard during this long recovery left Nick deeply frustrated. Suddenly losing that part of himself made the days feel heavier. Learning about his struggle, Riseup, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people rebuild their lives after illness, began checking in on him regularly. Volunteers brought updates from the skate scene, shared small stories to keep his spirits up, and guided him through exercises to regain strength and mobility. Their steady presence gave him the courage to recover with determination and he was slowly recovering some of his strength and mobility. One quiet afternoon while trying to distract (分心) himself, Nick explored Etsy, an online marketplace for handmade goods and noticed that many people were selling wooden sculptures they had carved themselves. Their colorful shapes caught his attention and awakened something inside him. With his old wooden boards piled in a corner at home and his desire to stay connected to skateboarding still strong, he suddenly imagined turning those worn-out boards into artwork. The volunteers, aware of his new idea, encouraged, “Go for it! Those boards have stories; make something out of them. And we’ ll be here to help.” Nick soon started experimenting. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ With the money he earned, Nick chose to give back. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 新洲一中2026届高三下学期开学考 英语试题 本试卷共8页。 1. 5 How did Grant Brown’s presentation influence Alice? A. She decided to do something for nature. B. She tasted the sweetness of friendship. C. She learned about the harm of desire. D. She built up her courage to speak up. 6. The activities Alice joined in helped her to become more ________. A. intelligent B. confident C. innovative D. critical 7. What can we learn from this passage? A. Practice makes perfect. B. Patience is a cure of anxiety. C. Action is worry’s worst enemy. D. Everything comes to those who wait. C 5. A 6. B 7. 由文章第一段“My perfectionist tendencies were the main root of this: I wanted to be perfect at whatever I did, which obviously in life is not possible, but it consumed me.(我的完美主义倾向是这一点的主要根源:无论我做什么,我都想做到完美,这在生活中显然是不可能的,但它消耗了我。)” 由文章第二段“One day, I attended a presentation by wildlife conservationist Grant Brown at my high school. His presentation not only awed and inspired me, but also helped emerge an inner desire to make a difference in the world. (一天,我在高中参加了野生动物保护主义者Grant Brown的演讲。他的演讲不仅让我感到敬畏和鼓舞,还帮助我产生了一种内在的愿望,希望在世界上有所作为。)”和文章第三段“ Shortly after I received his invitation, applications to join the Youth for Nature and the Youth for Planet groups were sent around through my high school. I decided to commit to completing the applications, and soon I was a part of a growing global team of young people working to protect nature. (在我收到他的邀请后不久,我的高中就收到了加入“Youth for Nature”和“Youth for Plane”组织的申请。我决定致力于完成这些申请,很快我就成为了一个日益壮大的全球年轻人保护自然团队的一员。)”可知,是Grant Brown让作者开始为从事保护自然地活动中。故选A项。 由文章第三段“I decided to commit to completing the applications, and soon I was a part of a growing global team of young people working to protect nature. Each of these new steps continued to grow my confidence.(我决定完成申请,很快我就成为了一个不断壮大的全球年轻人保护自然团队的一员。每一步都让我更加自信。)”可知,Alice 加入这些活动让她变得更自信了。故选B项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。由第一段“ Early last year, I was troubled by an anxiety that crippled ( 削弱 ) my ability to do anything. I felt like a storm cloud hung over me.”(去年年初,我被一种焦虑困扰,它削弱了我做任何事情的能力。)由文章第三段“I decided to commit to completing the applications, and soon I was a part of a growing global team of young people working to protect nature. Each of these new steps continued to grow my confidence.(我决定完成申请,很快我就成为了一个不断壮大的全球年轻人保护自然团队的一员。每一步都让我更加自信。)可知,文章主要讲述作者通过参加保护自然活动治愈好了自己的焦虑。所以从文章中我们能学到行动是忧虑最大的敌人。故选C项。 C Race walking shares many fitness benefits with running, research shows, while most likely contributing to fewer injuries. 【答案】8. C 9. D 10. A 11. B 【解析】 【分析】这是一篇说明文。短文介绍了竞走相比跑步有诸多的优势,但是之前受过伤的人,要想从事这样运动要谨慎,最好咨询专家的建议。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“But the sport’s rules require that a race walker’s knees stay straight through most of the leg swing and one foot remain in contact with the ground at all times.”可知,但这项运动的规则要求竞走者的膝盖在摆动腿的大部分时间保持伸直,一只脚始终与地面接触。由此可知,竞走运动员是需要具备某些条件的运动员是因为运动员需要遵守特殊的规则。故选C项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“As a result, she says, some of the injuries associated with running, such as runner’s knee, are uncommon among race walkers.”可知,一些与跑步有关的损伤,比如跑步者的膝盖,在竞走者中并不常见。由此可知,竞走与跑步相比的优势是不太可能导致膝盖受伤。故选D项。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段Dr. Norberg说的话“In fact, anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first consult a coach or experienced racer to learn proper technique(事实上,任何想尝试竞走的人都应该首先咨询教练或有经验的竞走运动员,学习适当的技巧。)”可知,Dr. Norberg建议想尝试竞走的人征询专家的建议。故选A项。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段“Race walking shares many fitness benefits with running, research shows, while most likely contributing to fewer injuries. It does, however, have its own problem.”可知,研究表明,竞走和跑步一样有很多健身益处,而且它还很少导致受伤。不过,它也有自己的问题。由此判断出作者对于竞走的态度是客观的。故选B项。 D Popularization has in some cases changed the original meaning of emotional (情感的) intelligence. 【答案】12. D 13. B 14. A 15. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了情商的定义以及对有关于情商未来研究的期望。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“Research has shown that emotional skills may contribute to some of these qualities (研究表明,情商技巧可能有助于这些品质的形成)”可知,情商有助于这些品质的形成,所以情商并不是指一个人的积极品质。故选D项。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“The ability to accurately understand how others are feeling may be used by a doctor to find how best to help her patients, while a cheater might use it to control potential victims. (医生可能利用这种准确理解他人感受的能力来找到最好的帮助病人的方法,而骗子可能利用这种能力来控制潜在的受害者)”可推知,作者在文章第二段中提到“医生”和“骗子”是举例子来阐明下文的观点——情商高并不一定能使一个人成为有道德的人。故选B项。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“the overall effects of the publicity have been more beneficial than harmful. …The popularization of emotional intelligence has helped both the public and researchers (宣传的总体效果一直是利大于弊。这种普及最积极的方面是雇主、教育者和其他对促进社会福利感兴趣的人对情感进行了新的、迫切需要的强调。情商的普及帮助了公众和研究人员)”可知,作者认为总体效果利大于弊,情商的普及帮助了公众和研究人员,所以作者对情商普及的态度是赞同的。故选A项。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。根据最后一段“we hope that such attention will excite a greater interest in the scientific and scholarly study of emotion. It is our hope that in coming decades, advances in science will offer new perspectives from which to study how people manage their lives. (我们希望这种关注将激发人们对情感科学和学术研究的更大兴趣。我们希望在未来的几十年里,科学的进步将为研究人们如何管理自己的生活提供新的视角)”可推知,本段主要讲述对未来关于情商研究的期望。故选B项。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 During your initial reading of material, do you ever go back and reread sentences or paragraphs? Is it because the material is too difficult to comprehend on the first reading or because you are asleep? ____16____ You are napping (打盹) or daydreaming. Halfway down the page you realize that you have no idea what you have read. ____17____ Thus, you go back and reread, not because you did not understand, but because you were not paying attention. This type of rereading is called regression. Napping and daydreaming are habits caused by lack of involvement with the material. Be demanding on yourself and expect 100 percent attention to the task. Engage your mind. Visualize the incoming ideas, and relate the new material to what you already know. ____18____ If your mind is truly occupied with the text, you will not be able to think about Friday night or where to go on Saturday. Regression is a crutch (拐杖) that allows you to make up for wasted time. First of all, become aware of when and why you are regressing. ____19____ Say, “OK. I missed that paragraph because I was thinking of something else, but I’m going to keep on going and start paying close attention.” ____20____ Good readers who monitor their own comprehension use it in the reading process. However, regressing because your mind was asleep is a waste of time. A. Both are to blame. B. Probably the latter is true. C. Don’t just read the words; think the ideas. D. Spend a few minutes reading the material aloud. E. Your eyes were engaged, but your mind was not. F. Then, start denying yourself the right in order to break the habit. G. Rereading because you did not understand is a reasonable fix-up strategy. 【答案】16. B 17. E 18. C 19. F 20. G 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍阅读中因打瞌睡导致的回读现象,分析原因并给出专注阅读、克服该习惯的建议。 【16题详解】 根据上文“Is it because the material is too difficult to comprehend on the first reading or because you are asleep? (是因为材料太难,第一次读不懂,还是因为你打瞌睡了?)”以及下文“You are napping (打盹) or daydreaming. (你在打盹或做白日梦。)”可知,此处应承接上文的两个疑问,明确更可能是后者(打瞌睡)的情况,B选项“Probably the latter is true. (可能后者是对的。)”中的the latter指代上文because you are asleep,与下文的打盹、做白日梦相呼应,符合语境。故选B项。 【17题详解】 根据上文“Halfway down the page you realize that you have no idea what you have read. (因此,你回去重读,不是因为你不懂,而是因为你没有集中注意力。)”可知,此处应体现眼睛在看但大脑没专注的状态,E选项“Your eyes were engaged, but your mind was not. (你的眼睛在看,但你的大脑没有投入。)”既解释了为什么不知道读了什么,又为下文“没集中注意力”的原因做铺垫,符合语境。故选E项。 【18题详解】 根据上文“Engage your mind. Visualize the incoming ideas, and relate the new material to what you already know. (集中注意力。想象即将接收的观点,并将新材料与你已有的知识联系起来。)”以及下文“If your mind is truly occupied with the text, you will not be able to think about Friday night or where to go on Saturday. (如果你的大脑真的专注于文本,你就不会去想周五晚上或周六去哪里。)”可知,此处应强调阅读时要思考观点而非只看文字,C选项“Don’t just read the words; think the ideas. (不要只看文字,要思考其中的观点。)”与上文Engage your mind和下文mind is truly occupied with the text相呼应,符合语境。故选C项。 【19题详解】 根据上文“First of all, become aware of when and why you are regressing. (首先,要意识到自己何时以及为何会回读。)”以及下文“Say, “OK. I missed that paragraph because I was thinking of something else, but I’m going to keep on going and start paying close attention.” (比如,“好的。我因为想别的事情错过了那一段,但我会继续读下去,并开始集中注意力。”)”可知,此处应体现意识到回读原因后,要拒绝回读以打破习惯,F选项“Then, start denying yourself the right in order to break the habit. (然后,开始拒绝自己回读的权利,以打破这个习惯。)”中的Then承接上文First of all, denying yourself the right与下文keep on going相呼应,符合语境。故选F项。 【20题详解】 根据下文“Good readers who monitor their own comprehension use it in the reading process. However, regressing because your mind was asleep is a waste of time. (善于监控自己理解程度的优秀读者会在阅读过程中使用它。然而,因为打瞌睡而回读是浪费时间。)”可知,此处应区分两种回读,强调因不懂而回读是合理的,G选项“Rereading because you did not understand is a reasonable fix-up strategy. (因为不懂而回读是一种合理的补救策略。)”中的Rereading because you did not understand与下文regressing because your mind was asleep形成对比,reasonable fix-up strategy与下文use it in the reading process相呼应,符合语境。故选G项。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题:每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 My life as a tax-paying employed person began in middle school, when, for three whole days, I worked in a baking factory. One quiet afternoon, while trying to distract (分心) himself, Nick explored Etsy, an online marketplace for handmade goods and noticed that many people were selling wooden sculptures they had carved themselves. And we’ ll be here to help.” 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Nick soon started experimenting. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ With the money he earned, Nick chose to give back. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Nick soon started experimenting. He rummaged through his old skateboards, selecting those with the most character—scratches, dents, and faded stickers. With trembling hands but a determined heart, he began carving the wood into abstract shapes, inspired by his skateboarding memories. As he sanded and painted each piece, he poured his emotions into the artwork, transforming worn-out boards into vibrant sculptures. To his delight, his creations quickly gained attention online, and orders started pouring in, filling him with a renewed sense of purpose. With the money he earned, Nick chose to give back. He donated a portion to Riseup, the organization that had supported him during his darkest days, hoping to help others facing similar struggles. He also used the funds to organize free carving workshops for patients in rehabilitation centers, sharing his story and skills to inspire them. Nick realized that though he could no longer ride a skateboard, he could still create and uplift others, turning his pain into a powerful force for good. 词汇激活 行为类 ①挑选:select/handpick ②获得关注:gain attention/capture attention ③捐赠:donate/give away 情绪类 ①高兴:delight/joy ②痛苦:pain/suffering 【点睛】[高分句型1] As he sanded and painted each piece, he poured his emotions into the artwork, transforming worn-out boards into vibrant sculptures. (由as引导的时间状语从句和现在分词transforming作状语) [高分句型2] He donated a portion to Riseup, the organization that had supported him during his darkest days, hoping to help others facing similar struggles. (由关系代词that引导的限制性定语从句和现在分词hoping作状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
