五、阅读理解
“OK, class. Listen up!” Mrs Williams clapped her hands. “We’ll have a sports meet at the end of this month!” All the students in Class 7B started cheering and high-fiving each other.
“I need you to form four teams,” the teacher continued. “Who wants to be team leaders?” Betty put up her hand first. As the team leader, she quickly picked her best friends Zack and Jessica. Then she chose Jada, the fastest runner in the class. But when Mrs Williams said, “Tom, you join Betty’s team too.” Betty was a little unhappy. She didn’t know Tom well and thought he was bad at sports.

“Remember, real winners do their best, even if they don’t win,” Mrs Williams reminded them. Tom nodded, saying, “My dad says having fun and trying hard matter more than medals.” But Betty disagreed and said loudly, “Winning is everything!”
During daily practices, Betty only talked about beating other teams. Her attitude(态度) made her teammates unhappy. “You never care about us!” Jessica shouted and stormed off one day. Zack stayed quiet; Jada didn’t argue, and Tom joked to cheer everyone up—but Betty became angrier.
A week before the event, Coach Tony visited. He taught them games to make training fun. “Wanting to win is good,” Tony said, “but sports should bring joy too.”

Suddenly, practices became enjoyable. Betty realised that maybe having fun wasn’t so bad.
On Sports Day, Jada won the 50-m race; Tom got third in the long jump, and their team took second place overall. Walking home, Betty smiled, “I had fun today! Winning isn’t the only thing.” Jessica hugged her, saying, “We’re a real dream team!”

A. Because she thought Tom was poor at sports.
B. Because her team didn’t need more members.
