阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Eva spent the first week of high school trying to keep her head above water. One of the major headaches for her was finding her way in the huge school building. It was a six-story building. On each floor, hallways stretched in four directions, leading to classrooms, laboratories, and teachers’ offices. Somewhere in the building, there was also a library, a cafeteria, and a gym.
Having a poor sense of direction, Eva found it impossible to get around in such a huge building. All the different hallways and rooms were too much to think about, let alone commit to memory. She decided that she would memorize where her classes were and then pretend that the rest of the place didn’t exist.
In her fast P.E. class, Eva was shocked when Coach Pitt announced that everyone had to run one mile around the track outside. She searched the faces of her classmates for signs of panic. There was nothing she feared more than having to run a whole mile. To Eva, “a mile” was used to describe long distances. It was ten miles from her home to her grandfather’s, and that always seemed like a long way, even in a car!
When Coach Pitt blew his whistle (哨子), Eva figured she would be left in the dust. However, while some of her classmates edged ahead, others actually fell behind. “It’s just the beginning,” she thought. “I’ll come in last for sure.”
Soon Eva began to breathe hard, with her heart pounding and legs shaking. Feeling desperate, Eva started using a mind wick on herself. She stopped thinking about the word “mile.” Instead, she focused on reaching the shadow east on the track by an oak tree up ahead. Then she concentrated on jogging to the spot where the track curved (拐弯).After that, she tried to see if she could complete her first lap. One lap turned into two, then three, then four.

Last Sunday afternoon, I was reading a book and had just come to the most interesting part when my little brother, Tex, rushed into my room, yelling at the top of his lungs. “Sis, let’s go to the park! Ollie’s waiting for us!” Tex was only five, a noisy, messy little boy who cried all the time and always got in my way. For twelve years, I’d been the center of my parents’ attention. Now, everything changed. My parents were always busy with him, and I felt ignored and even a little jealous. I frowned and waved him away. “Go away, Tex. I’m reading.” But he pulled my arm, refusing to leave. Just then, my mom walked in, wiping her hands on her apron. “Honey, I need to finish making dinner. Could you take Tex to the park? Ollie’s already there with his basketball.” I shook my head firmly, saying I had homework to do. But she knelt down and looked me in the eye. “Please, sweetie. It’ll only be an hour. You used to love playing basketball with Ollie.” Reluctantly, I agreed. As we walked to the park, Tex kept grabbing my hand and chattering nonstop about his new toy car. I frowned, pulling my hand away every time he touched me. When we got to the park, I saw Ollie standing by the basketball court, grinning. Tex ran off to chase a butterfly, and I walked over to Ollie. “Sorry I’m late. My annoying brother made me come.” Ollie laughed. “He’s not that bad. Let’s play one-on-one.” Suddenly, I heard a scream. I looked up and saw Tex lying on the ground, crying. A bigger boy was standing over him, laughing and saying, “You’re such a baby!”

I was a new student in senior high. I was extremely shy and had always struggled with math. My math teacher, Mr. Li, was known for being strict, but his students also admired him for his kindness and patience. One day, we had a math test that covered the entire first chapter. I had stayed up late every night for a week, reviewing formulas and doing exercises. I was confident that I would at least get a C. However, when Mr. Li handed me the paper, I felt my heart drop. There was a big red “F” on the top right corner. My hands trembled as I flipped through the pages—almost every question was marked wrong. All the students around me stared, and I could feel my face burning with embarrassment. I wanted to crumple the paper and hide under my desk. After class, the bell rang, and I quickly packed my bag, hoping to escape. But Mr. Li’s voice stopped me. “Li Hua, could you come to my office, please?”

Hanson had a terrible fear of public speaking. Even giving a two-minute presentation in class would make his hands sweat, his voice tremble, and his mind go completely blank. His English teacher, Ms. White, noticed his struggle. She often encouraged him to participate in class discussions, but he always shook his head and looked away. One day, Ms. White announced that everyone in the class had to give a 5-minute speech about their hobby in front of the entire school at the weekly assembly. Hanson felt a wave of panic wash over him. His hobby was photography—something he was passionate about—but the thought of speaking in front of hundreds of people made him sick to his stomach. He stayed up all night preparing, writing a script and practicing in front of his mirror. But on the day of the speech, his heart was pounding so hard he could hear it. As he walked to the stage, his legs felt like jelly, and he forgot everything he had memorized. He looked out at the crowd, and all he saw were blurred faces. Just then, he made eye contact with Ms. White. She nodded and gave him a warm, encouraging smile.
Paragraph 1: Looking at Ms. White’s encouraging smile, Hanson took a deep breath.

I faced a tight budget when I was nine. On November 1st, I used up most of the money I saved. With a small amount of pocket money left before Christmas I didn’t have enough to buy presents for the family.
I was seriously considering going to my dad and asking for an advance on the next year’s pocket money, so I could at least buy gifts for my family members. But then, one evening, I was sitting in my room reading advertisements in the back of a magazine. Several greeting-card companies were telling us how people could make money by selling their cards and stationery. Normally, I would have passed right over the ads, but this time my situation was so difficult that I felt I had nothing to lose.
The ad that attracted me most was one by a well-known greeting-card company in my nation, whose products were of high quality. With my parents’ help, I contacted the company, although they preferred adults or older kids to advertise their products. After my sincere request, they agreed to give me, a nine-year-old boy, a chance.
My sales materials arrived within the week. I had expected something small and neat, but the package looked like a dinosaur’s shoebox; it was close to three feet long and nearly a foot wide, full of stuff. There was a thick binder containing a complete selection of the cards and some writing paper, which I would be selling for around $3 per box.
Although my parents supported my try to make money by myself, they had little confidence in my success; after all, instead of an outgoing kid, I was somewhat shy. However, I was determined to have a try to challenge myself.

Paragraph 1: Unwillingly, I agreed to go to the park with him. I grabbed the basketball and started playing with Ollie. At first, I was still annoyed, but as we dribbled and shot, I felt my frustration fade a little. Suddenly, Tex ran over, holding a dandelion, and yelled, “Sis, look! It’s a wish flower!” He tried to blow the seeds, but he was too short and kept jumping. I couldn’t help but smile. Just then, the bigger boy pushed Tex, and he fell again. This time, I didn’t hesitate. I ran over, stood in front of Tex, and said angrily, “Leave him alone!” The boy stared at me and then ran off. Tex looked up at me, his eyes shining. “You’re my hero, Sis!” he said. I knelt down, patted his back, and helped him stand up. For the first time, I didn’t feel annoyed by his presence.
Paragraph 2: At sunset, I was on my way back home, tired but no longer in a grumpy mood. Tex held my hand tightly, and we talked about the park and the wish flower. When we walked in, my mom smiled and said, “You two look like you had fun.” That night, I offered to read Tex a bedtime story. As I turned the pages, he snuggled up to me, and I felt a warm glow in my heart. I realized that having a brother wasn’t a burden. It was a gift. From that day on, I stopped feeling ignored and started cherishing every moment with Tex. I even taught him how to blow dandelion seeds, and we laughed together. I learned that love isn’t about being the center of attention; it’s about sharing it.

Paragraph 1: After class, he asked me to go to his office. I walked there with heavy steps, my head hanging low. I thought he would scold me, but when I entered, he smiled and pointed to a chair. “Sit down, Li Hua. Let’s talk,” he said. He took my test paper and went through each mistake carefully. “You understand the basic concepts, but you’re making careless errors and struggling with application,” he explained. He then pulled out a notebook and wrote down extra exercises for me, focusing on the areas I had messed up. “Come to my office every afternoon after class, and I’ll help you,” he said. I nodded, my eyes filling with tears. I felt grateful and determined to work harder.
Paragraph 2: I was determined to make a change. I started getting up at 6 every morning to review math concepts. Every afternoon, I went to Mr. Li’s office, and he patiently answered all my questions. I also joined a math study group with my classmates, and we helped each other solve problems. Slowly but surely, my grades began to improve. Three months later, we had another test. This time, I got a B+. When Mr. Li handed me the paper, he patted my shoulder and said, “See? Hard work always pays off.” I felt so proud of myself. I learned that courage isn’t the absence of fear; it’s moving forward despite it. I also realized that asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness, but of strength. From then on, I became more confident and no longer feared math.

Paragraph 1: Looking at Ms. White’s encouraging smile, Hanson took a deep breath. He pulled out his camera from his bag and held up a photo he had taken—a beautiful sunset over the lake near his house. “This is my favorite photo,” he said, his voice still shaky at first. “I took it last summer. The colors were so bright, and the light hit the water just right.” As he talked about the details—the way the sky turned pink and orange, the ducks swimming in the lake, the feeling of peace he had felt—he forgot his fear. He showed the photo to the crowd, and they gasped. When he finished, the hall was quiet for a moment. Then, Ms. White clapped, and the whole school joined in, cheering loudly. Hanson stood there, shocked. He had done it.
Paragraph 2: After the speech, Hanson felt a huge weight lifted off his shoulders. Ms. White came over and hugged him. “You were amazing, Hanson. I knew you could do it,” she said. His classmates surrounded him, praising his speech and asking about his photography. That day, Hanson learned that facing his fear was the first step to overcoming it. He joined the school’s photography club and even volunteered to give a speech at the next assembly. He no longer feared public speaking. Instead, he embraced it, knowing that every challenge was a chance to grow. He also realized that his passion for photography could connect him with others. From then on, he became more confident and outgoing, and he made many new friends.

Para 1:Wasting no time, I set off and knocked on doors in my neighborhood. Gathering my courage, I introduced myself as the young representative of the well-known greeting-card company. The initial responses were mixed—some were hesitant, while others were fascinated by the idea of a child engaged in such a venture. As I showcased the high-quality cards and shared the story behind each design, the doubt began to give way to genuine interest. Surprisingly, with my shyness transformed into enthusiasm, I tried to make conversation beyond the purpose of sales.
Para 2:Eventually, I earned over $20, a large sum of money for a 9-year-old kid in 1954. Hardly had I got enough money when I dashed to the store and bought thoughtful presents for each family member. On Christmas Eve, I placed the gifts under the Christmas tree. When my family opened them the next morning, their faces lit up with joy. My dad pulled me into a hug, saying it was the most meaningful Christmas he’d ever had. This experience not only let me give beloved gifts but also helped me break out of my shell.
