Since January, Suzhou City in Anhui Province has rolled out a series of initiatives to boost the physical and mental health development of adolescents, which are already showing strong results.
For instance, at the city’s minor psychological health counseling center, teenagers can release stress and stay active using equipment such as VR exercise bikes and inflatable (需充气的) boxing targets. This year alone, the center has conducted psychological assessments for more than 1 million teachers and students.
Miao Xunhong, mother of student Wang Zicheng, says she can see the positive influence of sports on her child.
“My son has been playing basketball for two years. Since joining team sports, he is more eager to go out, socialize and exercise even on rest days. His psychological assessment results have also improved,” she says.
“The benefits of sports now extend beyond the court, campus and into our home. As my son has become more lively and outgoing, our relationship has improved. Furthermore, through competitions, winning and losing, he has learned resilience, helping him develop reflective abilities and a tougher mindset,” Miao adds.
This year, Suzhou has also begun collaborating with schools to build a sports talent cultivation system. Professional coaches visit schools weekly to co-teach physical education classes with schoolteachers and provide after-school training sessions.
Xu Guoxuan, a fifth-grade primary school student, discovered table tennis through one such class. “I first played table tennis in a PE class. After being selected by the coach, I attend classes during the day and practice after school. I don’t need to go to a specialized club, and I can even compete in tournaments. This daily routine is easy for me to balance,” Xu says.
Ding Pengman, head coach of Suzhou’s municipal table tennis team, emphasizes the program’s value: “We are in schools four days a week. Besides professional instruction, what matters more is the inspiration our experience brings, which sparks real interest.”
24. What does the sports program in Suzhou essentially aim to do?
A. Organize city-wide sports competitions for students.
B. Establish a professional sports talent training system.
C. Support the overall well-being of young people.
D. Enrich school PE courses with external resources.
25. What is the mother’s attitude toward her son’s involvement in sports?
A. Appreciative. B. Critical. C. Doubtful. D. Neutral.
26. The word “resilience” in Para. 5 most likely refers to the ability to ________.
A. face challenges with great confidence B. recover quickly from setbacks
C. remain calm under pressure D. keep an optimistic attitude
27. How does the passage present the success of Suzhou’s initiatives?
A. By providing detailed statistical reports. B. By making comparisons with other regions.
C. By focusing on future plans and potential. D. By offering evidence from multiple sources.

Can music help you concentrate at work? Researchers from the University of Wales Institute in Cardiff conducted a new study, and it has some interesting results.
The research examined the ability of 25 people, aged 18 to 30, to remember information while listening to various sounds. In one task they had to remember a list of eight consonant (辅音) letters, which were dictated to them.
Participants in the study were tested under three different conditions: in a quiet environment, while listening to music they liked, and while listening to music they didn’t like. The participants generally did better when they were working in silence. The background music seemed to make memorization and recall more difficult. However, scientists also found that listening to music before doing the tests seemed to help concentration.
“Despite describing their self-selected music as more pleasant, their performance was poor, just as it was when they listened to music they disliked,” explained one of the researchers. So, even if you’re listening to music you like, it’ll still interfere with your work.
This would appear to contradict the findings of scientists who have researched what is popularly known as the “Mozart Effect”. This concept was invented by French scientist Dr. Alfred A. Tomatitis in 1991. Tomatitis published a book, Why Mozart?, which described what he believed were the healing powers of listening to Mozart’s music.
He also suggested that Mozart’s music could aid brain development. Later studies indicated it might enhance children’s spatial intelligence, leading to a widespread belief that classical music could boost a child’s IQ. The governor of the state of Georgia even once advocated allocating over $100,000 annually to supply classical CDs to every newborn in the state.
Another study seemed to further contradict the idea that music could help with concentration. The researchers found that surveyed university students mostly preferred studying in silence. Those listening to music preferred instrumental songs, saying that lyrics are distracting.
So, if you’re studying for an exam, turn off your music!
28. Under which condition did participants perform best in the University of Wales study?
A. Prior exposure to music. B. Listening to disliked music.
C. Working in silence. D. Listening to favorite music.
29. What is suggested about the impact of the “Mozart Effect”?
A. It has led to some real-world practices.
B. It has been proven to enhance adult intelligence.
C. It mainly promotes the enjoyment of classical music.
D. It originates from governmental educational policies.
30. What is paragraph 7 mainly about?
A. Lyrics distract more than tunes. B. Instrumental music aids concentration.
C. Students’ music tastes vary widely. D. Quiet is often preferred for study.
31. What can be inferred about background music?
A. It best aids creative work.
B. Its effects are inconsistent across studies.
C. It improves performance in concentration tasks.
D. It affects people differently based on preference.
D
Being an information technology, or IT, worker is not a job I envy. They are the ones expected to instantly fix a projector that stops working, even right in the middle of a critical meeting. They have to tolerate the bad mood of colleagues who are upset after calling the help desk repeatedly for the same issue. They also know there are better, more reliable and faster systems available, but their employer simply will not provide the funds to buy them.
According to a recent survey, employees reliant on IT support often consider it a major source of job dissatisfaction. Through no fault of their own, they can suddenly find their productivity deteriorating (退化) or quality control non-existent. And there’s little they can do about it.
The experience of using IT affects almost every aspect of the workplace. It has become a crucial part of employees’ overall work experience. When IT is operating as it should, employee self-confidence increases.
Their job satisfaction, too, can surge when well-functioning machines relieve them of dull tasks or repetitive processes. But if there’s one thing that triggers widespread frustration (沮丧), it’s a failed IT transformation project. In such cases, high expectations are dashed, and a long list of promised efficiencies fails to materialize. This occurs when business leaders implement IT initiatives with little consideration of how those changes will impact the end user.
This is why managers should appreciate how influential the IT user experience is, and make a substantial effort to ensure their IT team fixes programming errors and application crashes. Adequate and timely IT support should also be available to help users resolve technological issues at work. More importantly, IT practitioners need to understand how employees feel when they use IT.
Therefore, businesses need to design their IT infrastructure to fit their employees’ work, rather than force employees to work around the company’s IT limitations.
32. Why does the author say IT work is not a job he admires?
A. Fixing equipment urgently during meetings.
B. Knowing better systems are not funded.
C. Dealing with unhappy colleagues repeatedly.
D. Handling high-pressure tasks with poor support.
33. What is said about Information Technology’s influence on employees?
A. It mainly helps the tech-skilled. B. Its negatives may outweigh positives.
C. It can hurt or help work and well-being. D. It often lowers productivity and satisfaction.
34. What should managers and businesses do to improve the IT experience?
A. Make IT training available to staff.
B. Tailor technology to fit human work patterns.
C. Upgrade systems regardless of cost for efficiency.
D. Focus first on solving urgent technical breakdowns.
35. Which would be the best title for the text?
A. Employee Training in the Digital Age B. The Rising Cost of Business Technology
C. Why IT Departments Need More Funding D. Human-Centered IT: A Key to Productivity
Many people believe that passion and commitment are the foundations of strong romantic relationships. 36 The personality traits (特质) they possess or lack often determine whether their bond can endure. Recent research has identified humility (谦逊) as a crucial indicator of relationship success.
37 However, researchers have come to understand that humility actually signals the presence of admirable qualities. Being humble means having the ability to accurately assess one’s own limitations without undermining one’s strengths. For instance, a person might recognize their intelligence while accepting they are not a genius. 38
39 Humble individuals do not avoid their flaws; instead, they acknowledge mistakes, find value in imperfection, and actively seek growth. This openness not only enhances personal development but also positively influences interpersonal dynamics.
It is therefore not surprising that humility strengthens relationships. 40 Humble individuals are also more likely to initiate romantic relationships, as they are less likely to consider themselves “too good” for others. In essence, a humble individual may indeed be the ideal partner — one who sees clearly, grows continuously, and loves authentically.
A. But a relationship is made of two unique individuals.
B. Thus, humility fosters an honest and complete self-view.
C. Humility is sometimes confused with a lack of confidence.
D. Humility is an important indicator of successful relationships.
E. This balanced self-awareness lies at the heart of true humility.
F. Studies show that people highly value this trait in their partners.
G. Being humble means you have the ability to accurately assess yourself.

A Moment of Happiness
My dad, Sam Donald, only had a junior high school education. He was a man of few words, a quiet observer navigating my world of textbooks and school events, never quite grasping their rules. From a very young age, he started working on construction sites and sent most of what he earned back home to help pay family expenses.
I didn’t really understand his world either: He was a construction worker, and I thought that I would surpass anything he had accomplished by the time I walked across the stage at high school graduation.
The summer after graduation, I spent my days playing basketball, swimming, or playing video games with friends. In the evenings, I scrolled through social media or practiced my guitar.
When a family friend who managed a construction site offered me temporary work that summer, I took it. He explained our basic task — sorting materials and cleaning up debris. The machinery roared to life and we began, moving through the site looking for scraps to clear away. After a short while, the foreman (领班) stopped and pointed at some tangled rebar (钢筋) we had missed. Then we began again. This happened over and over, but I soon learned to identify different materials: reinforcing bars, electrical wires, PVC pipes, and the most stubborn of all, the concrete chunks that needed breaking up. It was tiring work, but I looked forward to the pay, even though I wasn’t sure how much it would be.
At home, my dad simply remarked, “Working means you’re starting to grow up. It’s good that you can help out at home now.” His calm statement suddenly made me aware that the money I earned might not be entirely for my own use.
My job lasted roughly two weeks. When the foreman mentioned there could be more work ahead, I declined without hesitation. In my mind, it just didn’t seem right that the money I worked for wasn’t completely mine to decide how to spend.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
Payday finally arrived.
I understood immediately what my parents were worried about.

A
根据文章Special Badge (徽章) & Exclusive Offer部分的首句“Pinned to Peter’s jacket is a limited edition 150th Anniversary badge.(别在彼得夹克上的是一个限量版150周年纪念徽章。)” 题干中的“attached to”与原文的“Pinned to”同义。
根据文章Special Badge (徽章) & Exclusive Offer部分中的关于价格的描述“... a total of £239 (plus £7.50 postage and handling).(总计239英镑,外加7.50英镑的邮费和处理费。)”
根据文章首段主旨句“... has rolled out a series of initiatives to boost the physical and mental health development of adolescents ...”
她的语言充满肯定,如“The benefits...”“our relationship has improved”“he has learned...”,明确表达出欣赏、赞同的态度。 故选A。
根据第五段该词所在语境“through competitions, winning and losing, he has learned resilience, helping him develop reflective abilities and a tougher mindset,”可知,后置定语“helping him develop reflective abilities and a tougher mindset”是对“resilience”的具体解释。
根据第三段中的“The participants generally did better when they were working in silence.”
A项“It has led to some real-world practices.” 故选A。
D项“Quiet is often preferred for study.”
根据第三段中的“When IT is operating as it should, employee self-confidence increases.、第四段中的“Their job satisfaction, too, can surge when well-functioning machines relieve them of dull tasks or repetitive processes.”和“But if there’s one thing that triggers widespread frustration (沮丧), it’s a failed IT transformation project.”
A项“But a relationship is made of two unique individuals.(但一段关系是由两个独特的个体组成的。)” 故选A。
37. C 空后以“However, researchers have come to understand ...” C项“Humility is sometimes confused with a lack of confidence.(谦逊有时会被误认为是缺乏自信。)”
E项“This balanced self-awareness lies at the heart of true humility.(这种平衡的自我认知,是真正谦逊的核心。)”
B项“Thus, humility fosters an honest and complete self-view.(因此,谦逊能培养一种诚实而完整的自我认知。)”
F项“Studies show that people highly value this trait in their partners.(研究表明,人们非常看重伴侣身上的这种特质。)”
根据空前“I was at the supermarket with my five-year-old son”及本句“As we were about to ...” A项stay(停留)、B项wait(等待)、C项return(返回)均不符合“结束购物后准备走”这一即将发生的动作逻辑。只有D项leave(离开)准确。故选D。
A项turn(转动)、B项lower(低下)、D项bury(埋)均不符合“摔倒受伤”的语境。故选C。
空处与“was both embarrassed”通过“and”并列,且由“clearly in”修饰,共同描述老妇人的状态。根据前文“had just fallen over ... hit her head”以及“there was blood everywhere”可知,摔倒撞头流血后,精神上很可能处于“震惊”状态。 A项trouble(麻烦)、C项anger(愤怒)、D项confusion(困惑)均非摔倒受伤后的直接典型反应。故选B。
故选A。
Moved by his kindness(被他的善良打动)构成直接的因果关系。A项curiosity(好奇)、C项bravery(勇敢)、D项wisdom(智慧)均无法准确概括儿子出于同情而提议送花这一行为的本质。故选B。
故选A。
A项contribute to(贡献于)、B项turn to(求助于)、D项get to(到达,开始)均不符合此处的语义要求。故选C。
空处形容词描述儿子看到“all the blood and medical equipment”后的情绪反应。 D项upset(心烦的,不安的)最准确。A项alert(警觉的)、B项patient(耐心的)、C项innocent(天真的)均不能准确描述这种因害怕或不适而产生的负面情绪。故选D。
A项scared(害怕的)最直接。B项ashamed(羞愧的)、C项bored(无聊的)、D项disappointed(失望的)均不符合逻辑。故选A。
A项water(水)、C项food(食物)、D项card(卡片)均未在上下文中出现或提及。故选B。
A项connect(连接)、B项perform(表演,执行)、C项focus(集中)均不能与“better”构成合理搭配来表达“改善感受”的含义。故选D。
C项fill(充满)准确。A项shine(闪烁)、B项open(睁开)、D项close(闭上)均不能与“with tears”构成地道的、表示“含泪”的搭配。故选C。
A项show(展示)、C项present(赠送;授予)和D项sell(卖)均不符合语境。故选B。
空后是“her pain and shock”(她的疼痛和惊魂未定),空格后主句描述了她“looked up ... with ... and offered ... a gentle smile”(抬头看、眼中带温暖、露出微笑)的积极行为。 A项Thus(因此)表结果;C项Given(考虑到)表原因;D项Regardless需与of搭配(Regardless of)才表示“不顾”,单独使用不正确。故选B。
B项hope(希望)、C项honesty(诚实)和D项worth(价值)均不能准确体现老妇人此时眼中的情感。故选A。
the establishment of意为“……
分析句子结构,“through strict protection ______ ecological restoration efforts”为介词through引导的状语。 故填and。
故填The。
故填shows。
分析句子结构,“has been ______ stable”中,has been为系动词be的完成时形式,stable(稳定的)为形容词作表语。
故填of。
分析“and all of them ______ as ...” 故填are listed。
空处“______ at a news conference ...”
分析句子结构,“______ the Huangyan Island National Nature Reserve was established ...”是一个定语从句,修饰表示地点的先行词“the northeastern part of the island”。 故填where。
A Moment of Happiness
During the winter vacation, my happiest moment came on a quiet evening when my whole family gathered to make dumplings together. My mother prepared the dough, my father mixed the filling, and I clumsily tried to wrap the dumplings. Laughter filled the kitchen as my dumplings turned out in all sorts of funny shapes. Finally, when we sat down to enjoy our homemade dumplings, the warmth from the steaming bowls seemed to melt away the cold outside.
This simple moment made me realize that happiness does not lie in grand events or expensive gifts. It exists in ordinary moments spent with loved ones, in shared laughter, and in the warmth of home. Even the most imperfect dumplings tasted perfect because they were made together. That evening, I understood that the truest happiness is often found in life’s simplest and quietest moments.
Payday finally arrived. The envelope felt thinner than I had imagined. Sitting on the edge of my bed, I counted the bills twice. It was less than I had calculated for all those hours under the sun, yet it was more money than I had ever held. For a moment, I pictured the new sneakers I’d wanted, the concert tickets my friends were talking about. Then I heard my parents talking quietly in the kitchen, their voices tight with worry about the upcoming rent and my mother’s medical bills. The envelope suddenly felt heavy, like it wasn’t paper and ink, but something else entirely.
I understood immediately what my parents were worried about. Standing there with the money in my hand, I saw not just my two weeks of labor, but years of my father’s silent toil — the early mornings, the worn-out gloves, the quiet sacrifices that had paid for my school uniform, my textbooks, this very room. My disappointment over what I couldn’t buy for myself began to dissolve, replaced by a slow, heavy understanding. I walked to the kitchen and placed the envelope on the table. “Here,” I said, my voice unfamiliar to my own ears. My father looked at me, then at the money, and gave a single, slow nod. Nothing was said, but the air in the room had changed. The unfairness I felt didn’t vanish, but it was no longer just about me.

I’ve got the wrong piece of paper here … I mean the show will be on August 15th and it’s called “Clothes for the Successful Students”. At the start of the show, you’ll see some smart shirts and blouses, just right for those university interviews. And then in the second half of the show, there are a variety of fashionable and comfortable shoes. If you’re studying fashion, tickets are only $6, instead of the normal price of $9. That’s good news for fashion students! The clothes in the fashion show won’t be on sale that day, but you will be able to buy a catalogue of the show to take home with you!
