It's March in Africa. On the farm, local people are dancing and singing to celebrate their recent harvest. Their hard work has paid off and got beautiful fruit-white and fragrant rice!
This is the Second Farm in Xai-Xai. Mozambique, where Yi Yun has been working for six years. The 37-year-old from Liaoning, China, followed his Chinese company here as a project manager. The company runs a project to grow rice on the farm, which covers about 1,667 hectares.
“When we first arrived in 2017, the farm was full of weeds (杂草), as tall as a man,” said Yi. After clearing the weeds, the company began to teach locals farming skills. “We taught them how to drive tractors (拖拉机) and harvesters, and how to grow rice step by step including sowing seeds and spraying pesticide.”
Since 2000, when the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation started, an increasing number of Chinese companies and organizations have gone to Africa to work in the agriculture industry. “We bring in new techniques, equipment and high-quality seeds,” said Yi.
“Local people are happy that we are here because we not only help them solve food problems but also provide job opportunities,” said Yi. “Our farm can employ 500 to 1,000 local people. Their living conditions have been greatly improved in recent years. Some families have even bought televisions and fridges.”

Rescue workers and thousands of volunteers are not the only ones who have won hearts and minds for their heroic efforts in the search for survivors after Tuesday's powerful earthquake in Mexico.Fifteen dogs from the navy's canine(军犬) unit have assisted this week in the rescue efforts at the sites of collapsed buildings across Mexico City, where more than 50 people have been pulled alive from the ruins.
Of the canine heroes none is more famous or loved than Frida,a six-year-old white Labrador who in her distinguished service has won praise for her ability to detect people who have been trapped by various natural disasters.Over her admirable career she has found 52 people including 12 survivors in Mexico and other Latin American countries.
This week,Frida and Evil and Echo-two Belgian Shepherds that have also been specially trained for rescue efforts-were sent to the site of the collapsed Enrique Rebsamen School in southern Mexico City.
Equipped with goggles that protect her eyes from dust and smoke, boots to prevent damage to her paws while she climbs over rough ruins,Frida took to her work looking every bit the part of the ruins.
If Frida detects the presence of a survivor, she is trained to bark to alert rescue workers but if she detects a corpse she stops suddenly before proceeding, her handler explained.
Eleven children were rescued from ruins at the school but this time human rescue workers rather than the dogs were the ones who located them.
However, that hasn't stopped Frida from becoming a social media star and reaching a new level of fame this week.Videos and other social media posts that highlight the work of Frida and her impressive record of detecting people trapped by natural disasters spread quickly online.
While she has yet to detect anyone trapped in the ruins this week, she and other rescue dogs are continuing to work tirelessly, searching through spaces that humans cannot reach. With the possibility that there are still people trapped alive, time will tell whether she adds to her rescue record.

Coming into the town of Santa Catarina Palopó,in the highlands of Lake Atitlán in Guatemala, the first thing you notice is the bright colors. Most of the buildings along the main street are eye-catching, in deep, varied hues of blues and greens; interspersed with red and yellow to form complex patterns and designs.
Santa Catarina Palopó was once a sleepy town of 5,000 people, most of them indigenous (土著的) and dependent on agricultural work. As agriculture began to dry up here, decline for the town and poverty for many of its families came. To deal with poverty and stimulate economic growth through tourism, a small but mighty group of laborers, artisans, domestic workers and stay-at-home moms created the Pintando Santa Catarina Palopó project.
The project was initially to paint all 850 homes and buildings in bright colors, in an effort to change the hillside town into a work of art.“We wanted to paint the houses with colors and figures that represent the community,” says the project's executive director Stephany Blanco.“A range of designs were created so that families can choose designs for their house that are representative of the family.”
One of the most representative characteristics of the region is the blue huipil, a traditional blouse which has been worn prominently by local women since the 16th century. That deep sky blue was chosen as the primary color for the Pintando project, with secondary colors found in the sunsets and the nearby lake to make the design more attractive. As for the designs that would be used, they would also find inspiration in local culture, symbols such as volcanoes, flowers, Mayan-styled butterflies and the national bird of Guatemala.
Each week, local artists, community members and tourists pick up paintbrushes to make buildings colorful.“At first, the idea of the project left many unsure about participating, but now you can see a considerable difference in the town,” Melissa Whitbeck said. “The color of the buildings is believed to improve the quality of life of the people. It uplifts the people's mood and encourages them to be proud of where they come from.”

Dear Mr. Secretary-General,
As a senior high school student, I'm writing to you to express my hope for world peace.
First of all, I'd like to express my thanks to you for the contributions that you've made to keeping the world peaceful since you took up the position as Secretary-General of the United Nations. As we all know, wars in history have brought great trouble and disasters to people, especially children in the war areas. What's more, in modern times, war will become more violent and crueler because of the application of modern science and technology.
I hope you can urge all government leaders to do their best to keep the world peaceful.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours truly,
Li Hua

(2025·吉林省长春市高二期末)
The small wedding celebration was set for the next day. Twenty-one friends and family members were getting together at a beautiful villa in the hills near the charming town of Brighton, just under an hour's drive from the airport.
“I can't wait for the barbecue tonight;never mind the wedding,”said Emma to her husband, John.
The couple arrived at the airport around 6 p. m. After checking out, they rented a car and headed towards the property where Emma's daughter, the bride, was eagerly waiting to share such a magical event with the ones she loved.
As they crossed the hilly landscape, the sun had gone down and rain was falling heavily. But that didn't take away from the beauty of the island. They chatted happily. John, from the driver's seat, kept her amused, completely unaware that the rainfall-more than nine inches would fall that day-had already reached dangerous levels.
As they drove past the town and up the winding road into the hills, the rain intensified, and the sky grew darker. They were approaching a bridge over what was usually a small stream when a lot of dirty and fast-moving water unexpectedly washed over it. In just a few seconds, their little white car slid into the now rapidly flowing river and rolled down the hillside.
The incident unfolded so rapidly that the two inside the car were too stunned to scream. As the car moved through the water, hitting the underside of a couple of bridges, they held on tightly to the seats and doors in shock.
Emma, seated in the back with a large present box for her daughter, noticed water coming into the car. Muddy water was pouring into the car, rising quickly.
注意:1.续写词数应为 150 左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
Emma realized they had to get out before the water level became too dangerous. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Nearby residents,Mike and his brother David, heard cries. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
[参考范文]
Emma realized they had to get out before the water level became too dangerous. It was then that she noticed John's foot was caught and he couldn't move. She tried desperately to free him, but the water pressure was too great. She tried her best to free him, but in vain. They desperately tried to shout as hard as they could, while holding down the car horn. The water kept rising and was about to drown the car. What they saw made them very scared. Even though they had no strength because of the loud shouting, they still held on.
Nearby residents, Mike and his brother David, heard cries.Without hesitation, when they knew what had happened, they dived in, and swam towards the car. After several attempts, they were rescued. Shaken and relieved, Emma hugged John tightly and thanked their rescuers. The small wedding celebration had turned into a near-death experience. But, it was the kindness and bravery of strangers that gave Emma and John a renewed appreciation for life and reminded them that in times of crisis, humanity can shine through.
