My name is Li Hua. I’m eager to share my thoughts on literature with you. I love literature because it opens up
a whole new world for me. Through reading, I can experience different lives and cultures without going out.
The novel The Old Man and the Sea has influenced me most. It teaches me that a person can be destroyed but not defeated. Whenever I face difficulties, I will remember the spirit of the old man and keep on trying. It also helps me become more confident and strong-minded. Literature is full of magic and wisdom.
I strongly suggest that we should read more literary works. Only in this way can we improve ourselves and enjoy the colorful world of words.

The novel Jane Eyre has influenced me most. It tells the story of a brave and independent girl who pursues equality and freedom. From Jane, I learn to be self-respecting and strong-willed. No matter how hard life is, I should stick to my principles and never give up my dreams.

One week before the competition, David wanted to give up again. “Maybe I should quit,” he whispered. “So many students are better than me.” Linda understood his fear went beyond financial worries. She remembered the writer’s story she had shared before. “Like that writer we discussed,” she said gently, “true success comes from overcoming our self-doubts, not just winning.” David thought about her words, and slowly, the worry in his eyes began to fade. He returned to writing with renewed determination.
At the award ceremony, when the winners were announced, Linda stood up and clapped. David’s essay “The Light Within” won first prize! Although Linda’s name wasn’t among the winners, her heart was filled with genuine joy for David’s achievement and pride in their shared effort. On stage, David said gratefully, “Thank you, Linda, for showing me that our circumstances don’t define us—it’s our courage to try that matters most.” Seeing David’s bright smile, Linda knew this was more than just winning—it was about a young person finding his voice and believing in himself.

IT played a great part in his winning the polar surprise in nineteen fifty three and the nineteen fifty four nobel prize in literature, and confirmed his power and presence in the literary world. Harmony is also one of my favorite writers. Besides the old man and the sea, I ve read some of his other works, such as the sun also rises, a farewell to arms and the snow of killer jarrow. But the old man and the sea is the one that left the deepest impression on me. This novel mainly wrote about one old man alone in the sea who fishes. He caught one big fish, but he met a shark on the way home. The old man used all his skills to fight with the shark. At last, the fish he caught was eaten up by the shark, but he never gave up. This book shows to us that the confidence is just like the automobile, motor and this power, which makes the person go forward. 【原文】
M: The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway’s most lasting works and may become one of the true classics of this generation. It played a great part in his winning the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 and the 1954 Nobel Prize in Literature and confirmed his power and presence in the literary world. Hemingway is also one of my favorite writers. Besides The Old Man and the Sea, I have read some of his other works, such as The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms and The Snow of Kilimanjaro. But The Old Man and the Sea is the one that left the deepest impression on me. This novel mainly wrote about one old man alone in the sea who fishes. He caught one big fish. But he met a shark on the way home. The old man used all his skills to fight with the shark. At last, the fish he caught was eaten up by the shark, but he never gave up. This book shows to us that the confidence is just like the automobile motor, and is power which makes the person go forward.

①Anna Sewell(1820-1878)wrote only one novel during her lifetime, a book describing the life of a beautiful, black horse, Black Beauty. The book is written from the point of view of the horse which helps us understand the influence that good and bad treatment had on the horses in the story. Black Beauty had a great effect on the treatment of animals and changed the way that people thought about horses.
②Black Beauty spent his early years in a picturesque, green field with his mother and some other young horses. When it was time for him to be trained to serve men, he was gently and patiently broken in by his master. He learned to wear a saddle(马鞍)and bridle(缰绳), and carry a human quietly on his back.
③At his next home, one of the horses with whom he shared a stable(马厩), had the reputation of being wild and aggressive. This horse, Ginger, said this was because she had been treated very badly at a young age. Although her new master and his employees were very kind, she could not help being suspicious of men.
④Black Beauty’s kind owner was forced to move abroad for the sake of his wife’s health. This marked the beginning of a string of owners with different personalities. Some were well-intentioned but allowed their grooms(马夫)full control of their animals. Unfortunately, in Black Beauty’s case, this often proved to be harmful.
⑤Fortunately, after some time Black Beauty was bought by Jerry Barker, a kind cab owner. There, he became a very well-loved horse. Although being a cab horse was very hard work, Black Beauty was given good food to eat, a warm stable to sleep in and lots of kind words. Black Beauty cared for him. He was always very happy there.
⑥The pleasant life came to a sudden end when Jerry was forced to sell his horses. After several other owners, Black Beauty was sold to Nicholas Skinner. He had to work very hard with no rest, insufficient food and poor accommodation. Eventually, Black Beauty became very ill from all this hard work, and had treatment. His owner wanted to have him killed when he could no longer do the job. Luckily, a vet convinced Skinner to allow Black Beauty to rest and recover, and then sell him, so that he would make a bigger profit. The owner agreed to have the horse’s life spared, but only for the sake of money.
⑦After spending years on London’s streets, Black Beauty’s next home was a pleasant farm, with a caring master. After nursing him back to good health, the farmer decided that Black Beauty needed to live in a place more appropriate than a farm. He sold Black Beauty to two kind young sisters, who lived on a pleasant country estate with a large, green meadow. Here the weary but content horse finally found the rest and peace of mind that he so desired and deserved.

Jennifer Egan made her name with her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, A Visit from the Goon Squad, which was praised for its changing structure. The Candy House, Egan’s companion to Goon Squad, borrows its structure from Goon Squad and appears to be part of the trend for fiction based on interventions(干预)in human memory. In Goon Squad, the characters are trapped in the digital age and long to return to the past; in The Candy House, now firmly in the brave new world, the characters — many of whom we met in the earlier book — find that they can return.
But there’s one significant change: where Goon Squad was organized primarily around the music industry, The Candy House shifts its focus to tech. All the familiar technologies are present. But there’s also a new service, Own Your Unconscious. This allows users to upload their memories onto a device called the Consciousness Cube, where they can rewatch past experiences as if they were streaming TV, fast-forwarding through the boring bits or silencing the sound. They can edit these memories with MemoryShop software. They can also access other people’s memories in the Collective Consciousness.
The Candy House begins with Bix, who we last met in Goon Squad as a brilliant Black grad student in the early 1990s. Now it’s 2010, and Bix runs a social media empire. He’s a big noise, a Steve Jobs-like figure as famed for his style preferences as for his technological work.
But Bix has developed a fear. Like a novelist staring down the follow-up to the book that made him famous, Bix has become afraid that he won’t be able to make something else as good as his social media network was. He finds his way forward with the concept called the Collective Consciousness.
We live in an era of unprecedented(前所未有的)access to other people’s minds. Does this access — Egan asks, through the Collective Consciousness — actually make us better at understanding one another? Or are we better off with the novel to connect with others?
It probably won’t shock you that this novel comes down hard for novels as the winning option. Like Goon Squad before it, The Candy House more than makes its case.
28. What do The Candy House and Goon Squad have in common?
A. They center on tech development.
B. Some of their characters are the same.
C. They are organized around the music industry.
D. Most of their stories are related to human memory.
29. What can users do with Own Your Unconscious?
A. See into their pasts. B. Upload their new inventions.
C. Predict their future experiences. D. Change other people’s memories.
30. What can be learned about Bix in The Candy House?
A. He is a well-known novelist.
B. He plays an influential role in social media.
C. He is brought into the tech industry by Steve Jobs.
D. He shares his memories in the Collective Consciousness.
31. What is the text?
A. A news report. B. An introduction to a novelist.
C. A book review. D. An advertisement for a book.

From hotter summers to more frequent floods, warming weather is affecting our lives in every way. For animals, however, it’s not just their living environment that’s in danger, but their very existence. Many beloved animals, including penguins and elephants, are at risk of disappearing because of climate change.
A study published on March 7 used fossils(化石)from sea creatures to find out which animals are most vulnerable as our planet’s climate continues to change.
Carried out by the University of Oxford, the study found that the size has a great effect on their extinction because they use up their energy quickly. They need lots of food to stay alive. Unfortunately, small animals often live in narrow or limited spaces. Furthermore, small animals usually don’t live as long as larger ones, making them easily influenced by factors that might cause their extinction.
Another problem is that small animals generally don’t travel far, so if their home is disturbed, or if new dangers threaten it, it may be hard for them to find new homes, or enough for them to survive. What’s worse, small animals often have more babies, which means it’s harder for them to ensure the safety of their children. In other words, they are at more risk of going extinct, according to the study.
Besides small animals, those living in extreme heat or cold — such as the poles(地极)— face more threats. These areas experience great climate changes, making life harder for species already dealing with tough conditions. As climate change gets worse, these extreme environments change more quickly, bringing more danger to the animals there.
This study offers important information on protecting wildlife as the world warms. “Knowing which creatures are most at risk is very important for planning how to protect them,” commented Earth. org. By focusing on the most at-risk species, conservationists(环境保护主义者)can do their work better, use limited resources well and improve the chances of keeping biodiversity alive despite environmental challenges.
32. What does the underlined word “vulnerable” probably mean in paragraph 2?
A. likely to be harmed. B. Difficult to be affected.
C. Possible to be forgotten. D. Unnecessary to be protected.
33. Why are smaller animals more likely to die out?
A. More enemies and less places to hide.
B. Short life period and little need for food.
C. Easy destruction of habitats and slow growth.
D. High energy burning and inability to move far.
34. What can we infer about the species in areas with extreme weathers?
A. Their survival chances are likely to decrease.
B. They might move to safer environments over time.
C. Their population will experience a sharp reduction.
D. They may gradually adapt to the changing conditions.
35. What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage?
A. To explain a research method. B. To introduce the findings of a study.
C. To show conservationists’ difficulties. D. To stress the value of wildlife protection.
【参考答案】32. A 33. D 34. A 35. B

第二节(满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
In her second year of high school, Linda met a transfer student named David in the school literature club. The quiet boy always sat in the corner, his eyes showing a sadness that didn’t match his age. He loved reading but never participated in activities that required money.
“Class, we’ll have a campus writing competition next week,” the literature teacher announced one day. “Winners will enter the city competition and receive writing guides.” Linda felt excited, but noticed David looking down, his fingers moving nervously.
After school, Linda found David reading in the library. “Let’s join the competition!” she said warmly. David shook his head. “I can’t.” “Why? You write beautifully!” Linda insisted. David closed his old notebook and answered, “It needs money for books…My parents work hard away from home. “
Their teacher later told Linda more: David’s family struggled financially. He never asked for anything. “He’s too hard on himself,” the teacher said. “He wants to join but fears failing and disappointing his parents.”
The next day, Linda brought her books to David. “We can share these. I’ve read about writers who overcame difficulties — their stories inspire me. Once we become famous writers, we can earn a lot of money!” Encouraged by her words, David finally agreed.
While preparing, Linda often shared stories of famous writers’ struggles. David showed great writing talent but was too strict with himself. He often asked, “Am I wasting your time?” “Of course not,” Linda reassured him with a smile. “I’m not a talented writer either, and-I joined just for the experience, not expecting to win. So please, don’t overthink it.”

【参考范文】

D

D
