The process is like drawing with a brush, but instead of ink, they use sugar syrup(糖浆).   The art of sugar painting is mainly found in the northern part of China. In the past, it was often seen at festivals or in busy markets. People, especially children, loved to watch the artists at work. Once the design was finished, the artist would place a stick on the back of the sugar painting and give it to the customer. It was both a toy and a snack!   To make sugar paintings, artists need special skills. The most common designs are dragons, phoenixes, and flowers, which are symbols of good luck in Chinese culture.   Nowadays, sugar painting is becoming less common because of modern snacks and busy lifestyles. However, it is still loved by many people. Some artists are trying to keep this traditional art alive by teaching it to the younger generation. They believe that sugar painting is not just about making sweets, and it is also about passing on the culture and history of China.   Sugar painting is a wonderful example of how art and life can be combined. It shows the creativity and wisdom of the Chinese people. It is hoped that this traditional art will continue to be passed down and cherished for many years to come. 6. Tangchang cloth shoes are named by Tangchang, a town in Sichuan province with several hundred years of shoemaking history.  “Tangchang cloth shoes are strong, comfortable, breathable and they are friendly to the environment”, many users said. In 2021, Tangchang cloth shoes were added to national intangible cultural heritage(非物质文化遗产)list. But in the 1980s, many Chinese preferred sneakers to them, and the steps of making Tangchang cloth shoes are so complex(复杂的) that many factories producing them were shut down. Growing up in Tangchang, Lai Shufang, 66 years old, is a master of making cloth shoes and has been making them for over 40 years. She said there are 32 steps to make a pair, but the most important step is making the soles(鞋底). First, you need to make flour paste(糨糊).“To make good paste, we make it at a temperature of 85℃. If it's too low or too high, the paste will not work well,” Lai said. Then, paste layers of white cloth together. When the pasted layers are dried, cut them into different shapes. Following that, you should beat the layered cloth again and again to make sure it is tight (紧实的) enough to make soles and upper parts. After that, you need to shape the two parts and glue them together. At the same time, trim (修剪) the soles' fluffy edges(毛边) to make them smooth. Then the cloth shoes are ready. Ai Peng, Lai’s son, was moved deeply by his mother’s hard work. In 2015, he decided to leave his job and help his mother. What’s more, he used Shu embroidery(刺绣) to make the shoes look more beautiful and opened a cloth shoe store online. Meanwhile, he showed the steps of making shoes in the shop window. After that, you need to shape the two parts and glue them together. At the same time, trim (修剪) the soles' fluffy edges(毛边) to make them smooth. Then the cloth shoes are ready.
