根据短文内容,判断正误 (正确“T”,错误“F”)。
About 200 years ago, there were about one billion humans living on the earth. Today, there are over eight billion of us. For thousands of years, the population grew slowly, but in recent centuries, it has jumped quickly. Between 1900 and 2000, the increase in the world’s population was three times greater than that during the whole previous history of humans—an increase from about 1.6 billion to 6 billion in just 100 years. In October, 2011, the world’s population reached 7 billion. Eleven years later, the number was 8 billion. It is predicted (预测) that the world’s population will be 9 billion by the mid-21st century.
This growth affects Earth’s environment, yet it also brings hope: A larger group of educated people can improve our world.
In the past decades, the world’s population grew quickly. However, if we look at recent years, we can see that this situation is changing, as the population growth rate (增长率) has been dropping off recently.
World history can be divided into three parts according to population growth. The first part was a very long age of very slow population growth. The second part has rising standards of living—the population went on rising quickly from the mid-20th century. Today, the second part is over, and the third part is coming: the population growth rate is falling and will go on falling to the next century.
21. The world’s population has grown rapidly in recent centuries.
22. It took a century for the world population to grow from 7 billion to 8 billion.
23. The author thinks the growth of the population has bad effects on our world.
24. The population grew quickly with the rising standards of living in the mid-20th century.
25. The passage mainly talks about how to control population growth.

【22题详解】
根据“In October, 2011, the world’s population reached 7 billion. Eleven years later, the number was 8 billion.”可知,世界人口从70亿增长到80亿用了11年,不是一个世纪。故答案为F。
23题详解】
根据“This growth affects Earth’s environment, yet it also brings hope: A larger group of educated people can improve our world.”可知,作者认为人口增长不仅影响地球环境,也带来希望,并非只有坏影响。故答案为F。
【24题详解】
根据“The second part has rising standards of living—the population went on rising quickly from the mid-20th century.”可知,20世纪中期随着生活水平的提高,人口增长迅速。故答案为T。

Last year, my parents took me on a very special holiday. My dream was to see some real snow, so during the winter holiday, we took our passports and flew over the Pacific to Calgary, Canada. We took a bus to a ski resort (滑雪度假胜地) in the Canadian Rockies.
As the bus climbed through the mountains, we saw the thick snow on the trees. I was dying to get out and play with it! At last, we reached the resort and quickly jumped out of the bus. This was our first experience with snow. We were like little children—we made snowballs and threw them at one another! Then we checked in at the hotel. We could see the ski slope (滑雪坡道) opposite the hotel. We could not wait to get out and ski.
The next day, we put on our ski suits and gloves, took our skis and went outside onto the snow. Wearing skis for the first time made me feel strange. Suddenly I found myself unable to walk! Then we had a skiing lesson with a young couple. Our coach took us to a gentle slope and showed us some basic skills. To be honest, that first lesson was not a great success. I kept on falling over, and I had to hold on to a rope to keep my balance. However, on the third day, I only fell over a few times, and I managed to do a few rapid runs. I felt pleased with myself, and my coach told me I was doing much better. Although it was very cold, I spent most of my holiday skiing. I had a wonderful time.
It was all over too soon. It was a shame, but we had to leave. I wish my parents would take me back here next year.

This growth affects Earth’s environment yet it also brings hope: A larger group of educated people can improve our world.

How can you remember a song for a long time? Why does your teacher use songs to teach you English? There is a scientific reason for this.
Researchers are studying the relationship between music and remembering a foreign language. “Singing could be a new way of learning, especially for a foreign language. The brain likes to remember things in a catchy and relaxing way. For example, children can remember difficult words quickly when they are in a song.” said Dr. Karen Ludke. If children find it difficult to learn foreign languages, this new way may help. On his blog (博客), Dr. Ludke wrote, “A listen-and-repeat singing way can help to learn foreign languages and open the door for future research in this area.”
Many language teachers know the importance of music and they often use it in teaching and learning. Hua Zhuying, a teacher at a Chinese language school in Washington D.C. likes using songs in teaching Chinese. She said “I use music all the time to teach children Chinese. For little kids, we usually use English songs but teach them the Chinese lyrics. Not only does it work, but it is fun for children. Sometimes I think if I learned English that way when I was young, maybe I could speak English much better.”
Our brain likes music in learning languages, especially for remembering. If you are still having problems in learning a language, why not try singing it out?
36. What is Dr. Karen Ludke studying?
