Here are our picks for the best train journeys running through China, to see beautiful landscapes, epic World Heritage sites and beyond. Beijing to Lhasa (3757km) One of China’s most epic train journeys is this spectacular two-day trip along the highest railway line in the world. Running from the nation’s capital all the way to Xizang, it covers some 3757km across eight provinces.  Trans-Mongolian (7621km) No discussion on China train travel is complete without mention of the Trans-Mongolian route. One of the world’s great rail journeys, this seven-day, six-night bucket-list adventure travels 7621km from Beijing into the wilds of the Gobi desert, the Mongolia steppe and the endless birch forests of Siberia before pulling into Moscow. Hefei to Fuzhou (850km) Unquestionably one of China’s most scenic high-speed railways, this route passes not one, but three World Heritage sites. Beginning in Hefei in Anhui province, this bullet train races through China’s southeast to arrive at Fuzhou in Fujian province. It’s a four-hour journey through mountainous scenery of mist-cloaked pine forest, canyons, rivers, tea plantations and well-preserved villages. Highlights include Huangshan, Sanqingshan National Park and Mt Wuyi, all featuring idyllic trails leading to summits with astonishing lookouts. Xian to Urumuqi (2344km) Linking China to the West, the ancient trade route of the Silk Road has long evoked a sense of romance for travelers far and wide. And though the days of camel-drawn caravans are long gone, the Lanzhou–Xinjiang High Speed Train enables you to retrace their steps in quicker and more comfortable means. 1. What do Beijing to Lhasa and Trans-Mongolian have in common? A. They cover the same length. B. They start from the same city. C. They run across eight provinces. D. They will pull into foreign countries. 2. Which can be a suitable train travel for a mountain lover? A. Beijing to Lhasa B. Trans-Mongolian C. Hefei to Fuzhou D. Xian to Urumuqi 3. Where is this text probably taken from? A. In a history book. B. In a novel. C. In a travel magazine. D. In a biography. 1. B 2. C 3. I had expected it as a two-week journey to my dreaming place but it turned into a life-changing one teaching me resilience (韧性), friendship, and the joy of slow travel. My journey started in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, a small French town where hundreds begin the 800-kilometer journey to Santiago de Compostela. On day one, I struggled with a heavy backpack and blistered feet, questioning my choice. But wandering green hills dotted with wildflowers, I met Maria, a retired Brazilian teacher, and Luca, an Italian student. We grouped up, sharing snacks, stories and the walk’s burden (负担), adjusting our pace to admire ancient villages, taste local snacks and listen to church bells. Halfway, a sudden rainstorm hit the Pyrenees Mountain. Our tents leaked, the path turned muddy, and we gathered closely under a stone shelter, which made us hesitant to go on the journey. Seeing that, Maria shared she’d hiked the Camino alone 20 years earlier, which encouraged us to go on despite aching legs. After the rain, we climbed a hill to watch the moon rise over misty mountains, an unforgettable image deeply rooted in my memory. As we neared Santiago de Compostela, the path grew busier, but our group stayed close, celebrating milestones like crossing rivers or reaching mountain passes. Along the way, we met hikers worldwide — doctors, artists, students — each with unique reasons, yet all going after the same goal: the Santiago Cathedral. Arriving at the cathedral square, I felt tired yet joyful. What surprised me most wasn’t the architecture or achievement, but the friendships and lessons. The Camino taught me travel isn’t about speed or landmarks — it’s about slowing down, relying on others, and finding hidden strength. For travel lovers, it’s not just a path, but a journey of self-discovery, one step at a time. 4. What did the author think his journey would be at first? A. A journey with challenges. B. A journey about local culture. C. A journey to meet new friends. D. A journey to a desired destination. 5. What can we learn about the author’s first day of the journey? A. He stayed in a fellow traveler’s tent. B. He had to stop due to blisters on the feet. C. He regretted over his decision at the beginning. D. He met Maria and Luca before starting the journey. 6. Why did Maria share her experience of the Camino? A. To prove her ability to lead the group. B. To make the climbing fun for the group. C. To have the group prepared for difficulties. D. To encourage the group to continue the journey. 7. What is the significance of the hiking to the author? A. Broadening his knowledge. B. Discovering his potential. C. Deeper insight into achievement. D. Better appreciation of slow lifestyle. D 5. C 6. D 7. 根据第一段中“I had expected it as a two-week journey to my dreaming place but it turned into a life-changing one teaching me resilience (韧性), friendship, and the joy of slow travel.(我原本以为这只是一场为期两周、奔赴心之所向之地的旅行,可它最终却成了一场改变人生的旅程,让我学会了坚韧与友爱,也体会到了慢旅行的乐趣。)” 根据第二段中“On day one, I struggled with a heavy backpack and blistered feet, questioning my choice.(旅程第一天,沉重的背包和磨出水泡的双脚让我苦不堪言,我甚至开始质疑自己的选择。)” 根据第三段中“Seeing that, Maria shared she’d hiked the Camino alone 20 years earlier, which encouraged us to go on despite aching legs.(看到这一点,玛丽亚分享了她20年前独自徒步圣地亚哥朝圣之路的经历,这鼓励我们尽管腿疼也要继续前进。)” 根据最后一段中“The Camino taught me travel isn’t about speed or landmarks — it’s about slowing down, relying on others, and finding hidden strength. For travel lovers, it’s not just a path, but a journey of self-discovery, one step at a time.(这条朝圣路让我明白,旅行的意义不在于速度快慢或打卡多少地标,而在于放慢脚步、信赖他人,以及发掘自己潜藏的力量。对于热爱旅行的人而言,它不仅仅是一条道路,更是一场一步一个脚印的自我发现之旅。)”可知,这次徒步的意义在于让作者发现了自己的潜在力量。故选B。 C Earthquakes are among the most mysterious and terrifying natural disasters. While we can sometimes predict major ones, others strike without warning, devastating cities and causing fires, landslides and tsunamis. With climate change leading to increased wildfires and hurricanes, could it also make earthquakes more common? The most dangerous earthquakes are tectonic (地壳构造的) earthquakes, caused by the movement of Earth’s tectonic plates. These plates shift about 1.5 centimeters per year due to internal heat, building pressure until they suddenly move, which releases energy and causes earthquakes. Unlike other disasters, it’s almost impossible to predict when earthquakes will happen, making planned evacuations (疏散) next to impossible. Unfortunately, climate change could make quakes happen closer together and with more intensity, experts told Live Science. With global warming, glaciers are melting at an increased rate. When melted glacier water flows off land and into the sea, the land that used to sit underneath it rises, said John Cassidy, an earthquake seismologist at the Geological Survey of Canada and the University of Victoria. More concerning than glacial-melt earthquakes are those that could be caused by an increase in sea level. As sea levels rise, pressure underwater on the seafloor also goes up, said Marco Bohnhoff, a geophysicist at GFZ Helmholtz Centre Potsdam and Free University Berlin in Germany. As water pressure spikes, the pressure on fault (断层) lines near the coast will also increase. Even if we stopped using greenhouse gases now, it would take up to 1,000 years for sea level rise to stop, Bohnhoff added. He predicts that over that time, the gaps between big coastal earthquakes will become shorter. Cassidy is uncertain if sea level rise will cause giant quakes to happen faster within our lifetimes. He emphasized that climate change will make them more dangerous. “It’s an important topic, and one that I’m sure we’ll see a lot of information coming out on in the coming months and years,” he said. “But no matter what we’ve discovered, it’s not good news.” 8. What does the article tell us about tectonic earthquakes? A. They are easier to predict than others. B. They happen mostly near coastal areas. C. They result from the shifting of Earth’s plates. D. They rarely lead to other natural disasters. 9. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 4 refer to? A The land. B. The glacier. C. The quake. D. The sea. 10. What does Bohnhoff imply? A. Coastal areas will be safer over time. B. Sea level rise will eventually stabilize. C. Human actions have long-term effects. D. Earthquakes will become more predictable. 11. What is Cassidy’s attitude toward the future impact of climate change on earthquakes? A. Hopeful. B. Concerned. C. Uncaring. D. Skeptical. C 9. B 10. C 11. 根据第二段中“The most dangerous earthquakes are tectonic (地壳构造的) earthquakes, caused by the movement of Earth’s tectonic plates. (最危险的地震是构造地震,由地球板块运动引发)”可知,构造地震是由地球板块运动引起的。故选C项。 【9题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第四段中“With global warming, glaciers are melting at an increased rate. When melted glacier water flows off land and into the sea, the land that used to sit underneath it rises (随着全球变暖,冰川正加速融化。当冰川融水从陆地流入海洋后,曾被它覆盖的地表会随之抬升)”可知,冰川融化且流往海洋后,曾被冰川覆盖的地表会抬升,画线词指代的是前面提到的“冰川”。故选B项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第六段中“Even if we stopped using greenhouse gases now, it would take up to 1,000 years for sea level rise to stop, Bohnhoff added. (Bohnhoff补充道:“即便我们现在就停止排放温室气体,海平面上升仍将持续长达1000年才会停止”)”可知,海平面上升的持续时间将很漫长,Bohnhoff在暗示人类的行为有长期的影响。故选C项。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“He emphasized that climate change will make them more dangerous. “It’s an important topic, and one that I’m sure we’ll see a lot of information coming out on in the coming months and years,” he said. “But no matter what we’ve discovered, it’s not good news.” (他强调,气候变化将使地震更具破坏性。“这是个重要课题,未来数月乃至数年肯定会有大量相关研究涌现,但无论发现什么,都不会是好消息。”他表示)”可知,Cassidy强调气候变化会使地震更危险,且任何发现不会带来好消息,这体现了他担忧的态度。故选B项。 D The Intelligent Transport team at Newcastle University have turned an electric car into a mobile laboratory named “Drive LAB” in order to understand the challenges faced by older drivers and to discover where the key stress points are. Research shows that giving up driving is one of the key reasons for a fall in health and well-being among older people, leading to them becoming more isolated and inactive. Led by Professor Phil Blythe, the Newcastle team are developing in-vehicle technologies for older drivers which they hope could help them to continue driving into later life. These include custom-made navigation (导航) tools night vision systems and intelligent speed adaptations. Phil Blythe explains: “For many older people, particularly those living alone or in the country driving is important for keeping their independence, giving them the freedom to get out and about without having to rely on others.” “But we all have to accept that as we get older our reactions slow down and this often results in people avoiding any potentially challenging driving conditions and losing confidence in their driving skills. The result is that people stop driving before they really need to.” Dr Amy Guo, the leading researcher on the older driver study, explains, “The Drive LAB is helping us to understand what the key stress points and difficulties are for older drivers and how we might use technology to solve these problems.” “For example, most of us would expect older drivers always go slower than everyone else but surprisingly, we found that in 30mph zones they struggled to keep at a constant speed and so were more likely to break the speed limit and be at risk of getting fined. We’re looking at the benefits of systems which control their speed as a way of preventing that.” “We hope that our work will help with technological solutions to ensure that older drivers stay safer behind the wheel.” 12. What is the purpose of the Drive LAB? A. To explore new means of transport. B. To design new types of cars. C. To teach people traffic rules. D. To find out older driver’s problems. 13 Why is driving important for older people according to Phil Blythe? A. It keeps them independent. B. It helps them save time. C. It builds up their strength. D. It cures their mental illnesses. 14. What do researchers hope to do for older people? A. Ensure their safety with the help of technology. B. Improve their diving skills. C. Provide advice on repairing their cars. D. Organize regular physical checkups. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. A New Model Electric Car B. Keeping Older Drivers on the Road C. A Solution to Traffic Problems D. Driving Services for Elders 【答案】12. D 13. A 14. A 15. I can’t play basketball as well as other boys. And I failed Math exam again yesterday, which made me…”, Tom, a 16-year-old boy of Mr. Brown’s class, lowered his head, sobbing (啜泣) uncontrollably in the Teacher’s Office. “I’m sorry to hear that” Mr. Brown patted Tom’s shoulder gently and asked the young boy to sit down in front of the desk so that they could sit opposite each other. This was the first time that Tom had turned to Mr. Brown for help because he was so shy and quiet in school. But Mr. Brown had noticed him many times in school’s volunteer work. Looking at the sad young boy, Mr. Brown was silent for a moment. Then, he took a piece of paper and a pen out of his drawer. “I’d like to invite you to take a surprise test, my boy”, said Mr. Brown, passing the pen to Tom. “A new Math exam?”, Tom raised his eyes which were still filled with tears, got the pen and replied in confusion, worrying about the coming challenge. “Just take it easy because it’s not about numbers or formulas (方程) ”, Mr. Brown comforted him with a big smile. Not knowing what would come in the exam paper, Tom nodded his head and wiped his tears with his sleeves. Mr. Brown handed Tom the question paper and encouraged him softly, “Now, you can begin and please finish the test within ten minutes.” To Tom’s surprise, there were no questions in the paper, but just a black dot in the center of the page. Mr. Brown thoroughly read through Tom’s puzzled expressions and said, “I want you to write what you see there.” Confused as he was, Tom began to do what he had been asked to do. Meanwhile, Mr. Brown picked up a novel and started reading it, waiting patiently. Paragraph one: Tom scratched (挠) his head anxiously, having no idea what to write. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph two: “What your writing focused on was just the black dot, but you have a whole white paper,” said Mr. Brown. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 Tom scratched his head anxiously, having no idea what to write. He stared at the black dot in the center of the page, trying to decipher Mr. Brown’s intentions. He thought about writing “a black dot,” but that seemed too obvious and uninspired. His mind raced, searching for deeper meaning or hidden messages. Should he write about how the dot represented his feelings of inadequacy and failure? Or perhaps how it stood out despite the surrounding emptiness? Tom’s fingers hovered over the paper, hesitant to make the first mark. “What your writing focused on was just the black dot, but you have a whole white paper,” said Mr. Brown. Tom looked up, puzzled. “Life is like this piece of paper, my boy. The black dot represents your problems and worries — they may seem big and overwhelming at times. But look at all the space around it — that’s your potential, your opportunities, and the good things in life that you often overlook. There’s a world of possibilities waiting for you beyond that tiny dot.” Tom’s eyes widened as he absorbed Mr. Brown’s words. Perhaps his school life wasn’t as hopeless as he had thought. 词汇激活 行为类 ①看着:stare at/look at ②寻找:search for/look for ③理解:decipher/understand 情绪类 ①难以承受:overwhelming/unbearable ②绝望:hopeless/desperate 【点睛】[高分句型1] His mind raced, searching for deeper meaning or hidden messages. 1. Where is this text probably taken from? A. In a history book. B. In a novel. C. In a travel magazine. D. In a biography. B Last summer, I realized a long-held dream by hiking the Camino de Santiago, an ancient route in northern Spain. A He stayed in a fellow traveler’s tent. C Earthquakes are among the most mysterious and terrifying natural disasters. Unlike other disasters it’s almost impossible to predict when earthquakes will happen, making planned evacuations (疏散) next to impossible. A. The land. A. Hopeful. B. Concerned. C. Uncaring. D. Skeptical. D The Intelligent Transport team at Newcastle University have turned an electric car into a mobile laboratory named “Drive LAB” in order to understand the challenges faced by older drivers and to discover where the key stress points are. These include custom-made navigation (导航) tools, night vision systems and intelligent speed adaptations. 13. Why is driving important for older people according to Phil Blythe? A. It keeps them independent. B. It helps them save time. C. It builds up their strength. D. It cures their mental illnesses. 14. What do researchers hope to do for older people? A. Ensure their safety with the help of technology. B. Improve their diving skills. C Provide advice on repairing their cars. D Organize regular physical checkups. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. A New Model Electric Car B. Keeping Older Drivers on the Road C. A Solution to Traffic Problems D. I’m not a popular student in our class. I can’t play basketball as well as other boys. And I failed Math exam again yesterday, which made me…”, Tom, a 16-year-old boy of Mr. Brown’s class, lowered his head, sobbing (啜泣) uncontrollably in the Teacher’s Office. “I’m sorry to hear that”, Mr. Brown. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
