Have you wondered how your brain controls (控制) your senses, like touch and hearing? Recently, four 14-year-old students from Suzhou took part in the Brain Bee, a science event, and won the national first prize.
This event is all about the brain—its different parts, functions (功能) and more. Students in the junior group first take a written test. Then, those who do well move on to a team competition, where they make a poster.
But it’s not just about basic brain knowledge. It also challenges students to work well with others. Teams get their topics by drawing lots. They have only two hours to do research and finish their poster. “When we got the topic—the mechanisms and treatments of tinnitus (耳鸣的机制与治疗)—I had no idea about it,” said student Zhang Ruolin. “It was so difficult to explain it clearly.”
After researching the topic, the team found many interesting things to draw, such as the auditory pathway (听觉通路) and some numbers to show through charts. These pictures could help people understand the topic better. “Just like we showed in our poster—when the auditory pathway is broken, the brain can rebuild itself,” Zhang said. “That’s so amazing, and it makes me want to learn more about our brain.”
This experience was more than just a competition. It opened a window to science for them. Today, a growing number of middle school students are beginning to explore the world of science through similar activities. These hands-on experiences teach them that science is not far away from them—it is found in every curious question, every team effort, and every try to make difficult knowledge clear and understandable. And the curiosity about the brain will guide them toward the frontiers of science in the future.
34. Why does the writer start this article with a question?
A. To attract the readers’ interest. B. To make the article look longer.
C. To test the reader’s knowledge. D. To show touch and hearing’s importance.
35. Students in the junior group first ________ in the Brain Bee.

One day, Reshi was talking with a chatbot. The chatbot is a computer program that uses AI to think and write like humans. He wondered if he could use the program to produce a children’s book. To begin with, he talked to the chatbot and got the story of a girl named Alice. Then, he used another AI tool called Midjourney to create pictures for the book. A couple of days later, Reshi completed a 12-page book, Alice and Sparkle. “Anyone can use these AI tools,” he said. “They’re not hard to use.”
When Reshi shared the book online, not everyone was pleased. Some people thought it was creative, but artists were unhappy. The problem, they said, was not just the poor quality of the artwork (for example, in one drawing, the hands looked strange). It was the way the art was made.
The AI tool, like Midjourney, searches through millions of pictures across the Internet. It uses computer programs to copy designs in those pictures and create new ones. Think of the artists who shared their works online. Midjourney could use their works without their permission. “The main problem for me about AI is that it learns from our artwork,” artist Adriane Tsai said, “They’re our creations, our personal styles... that we didn’t allow others to copy.”
Many artists and writers are nervous about their future. Will people still pay them for their works if it can be done cheaper using AI? Some companies are already using AI instead of real artists. For example, a ballet (芭蕾舞团) used AI pictures for ads, and a comedy club used an AI robot to tell jokes. “As a writer who makes money and gets joy from writing, it’s troubling to see people choose cheap AI over real human work.” Abraham Black says.
Reshi thinks that there should be protections for artists and writers whose works might be used in AI. “IT companies should work with artists when creating the AI artwork.” he says.
38. Reshi used the AI tools to ________.
A. read him stories B. create a children’s book
C. share pictures online D. talk to a girl called Alice
39. The underlined word “permission” in Paragraph 3 probably means ________.
A. order B. help C. advice D. agreement
40. What’s Reshi’s opinion about using AI?
A. People should pay for AI-made art. B. The artwork by AI should be improved.
C. IT companies should stop using AI for art. D. Artists’ works should be protected from AI use.
41. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To offer help for AI artwork. B. To encourage people to use AI tools.
C To show how AI tools work. D. To talk about problems of AI in artwork.

The next morning was foggy. Everything on the farm was wet and gray. Wilbur stood waiting for his breakfast. He looked up and saw something that made his heart stop. There, in the center of Charlotte’s web, were two words: “SOME PIG!”
He was confused at first. “Some pig? Me?” he thought. Then a warm feeling spread through him. Charlotte, his clever friend, was keeping her promise! This was her plan to save his life.
Just then, Lurvy, the hired man, arrived with the slops. He poured them into Wilbur’s trough (饲料槽), then saw the web. He dropped the pail (提桶) in surprise.
“Zuckerman!” he shouted, running toward the house. “Mr Zuckerman! Come quickly!”
The farmer and his wife, Mrs Zuckerman, hurried to the pigpen. They stood and stared. “Some pig...” Mr Zuckerman whispered. “It’s a sign. This isn’t an ordinary pig. This is a special pig.”
The word spread from the house to the barn. Soon, the geese and the sheep all knew about it. By the time the morning fog began to lift, everyone on the farm had visited Wilbur’s pen.
As the sun broke through, a wonderful thing happened. The tiny drops of dew (露水) on the web caught the light. The words “SOME PIG!” now shone brightly. It was more beautiful than any sign a human could paint.
The news did not stop at the farm fence. It traveled down the road. By afternoon, cars were lined up along the highway to see Wilbur and the magical web.
“See that?” Mr Zuckerman said proudly to a visitor. “That pig is completely out of the ordinary.” For the first time, Wilbur saw a look of deep respect in the farmer’s eyes, not just the look of a man seeing future bacon.
Charlotte, tired but happy, hid quietly in a corner of her web. Her plan was working. She had made people see Wilbur not as an animal, but as a wonder. And when you see something as a wonder, you don’t think about killing it.
That evening, as Wilbur ate his extra-special dinner, he felt truly happy and safe. He had a true friend, and because of her, his world had changed forever.

45. What will most likely happen next in the story?

Many adults may think their small acts of kindness aren’t so important. But, in fact, they mean a lot.
In 2025, researchers Echelbarger and Epley published a study. It described an experiment (实验) they had run. They wanted to find out if kids also undervalue (低估) their good actions. The experiment took place at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Researchers spoke with 101 kids who were visiting the museum.
With their parents’ permission, the kids were offered two free pencils. They could take both pencils home or show an act of kindness like giving one of the pencils to a stranger. The kid could choose the receiver. Before the experiment, the researchers asked the kids a question. The kids had to guess how “big” their act of kindness would feel to the receiver.
“Many kids had trouble guessing”, Yanyi Leng says. She’s a research assistant who helped with the experiment. Leng told TIME for Kids that some of the children said, “I’d like to give my pencil but I’m not sure how they’re going to feel.” In the experiment, the receivers were happy to get the pencils. And the givers felt happy too after doing a good thing. “It speaks to the power of these small, accidental acts of kindness,” Echelbarger told TFK.
Echelbarger and Epley’s study shows that doing good feels good. Echelbarger hopes the study will encourage kids to spread kindness. She says people are usually happy when someone says hello or holds a door for them. “Those things—we like being receivers of them,” she says. “So we should also do them.”

C. IT companies should stop using AI for art. D. Artists’ works should be protected from AI use.
41. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To offer help for AI artwork. B. To encourage people to use AI tools.

七、阅读与回答问题 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
请认真阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。
