With its snow-covered mountains and a variety of wildlife,Yellowstone National Park is one of the
scenic treasures of the United States.Located primarily in Wyoming, the park receives millions of visi-
tors every year.
If you plan to travel within the park, keep in mind advice from the National Park Serv-
ice.
Seasonal Travel
Travel varies vastly from season to season.Roads are generally open in the summer except for ca-
如
ses of rock or mud slides, wild fires, accidents or road construction.Early snows in the fall can cause
some roads to be closed temporarily. In the winter almost all roads are closed to motor vehicles, but
snowmobiles(摩托雪撬)and other vehicles with snow chains are allowed.Roads begin to open in the
h
spring by the latter part of April but will be closed if snowfall continues.
Driving Time
Grand Loop is the main road through Yellowstone National Park;it passes by most of the major
attractions. These include Old Faithful,Yellowstone Lake and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.
The maximum speed limit on the Grand Loop is 45 miles per hour, but the speed limit drops during
some of the winding and twisting sections of this narrow road.Allow yourself at least two days to fully
travel the loop due to the size of the park and being sometimes stuck in heavy traffic.
Safety Awareness
毁
Buffaloes (often block the roads in the park as they move through the fields. If a herd is
travelling across the road you are on,you can either wait for them to pass or find an alternative route.
If you get out of your vehicle, the National Park Service suggests that you stay at least 25 yards from
any buffalo (and 100 yards or more away from bears and wolves).Buffaloes are particularly unpredicta-
ble and charge towards people at a speed of up to 30 mph.
菌
You can ride your bicycle on any public roads and routes designed for bikes, but bicycles are not al-
lowed on the park roads which are narrow.Altitudes range from 5,300 to 8,860 feet. The National
1
Park Service recommends cyclists wear helmets and noticeable clothing.

Recently I was visiting some websites when I came across a collection of strange beach photos
where everyone had a cloth wall surrounding their little patch of sand.I had never seen anything like
that before, and I was intrigued,so I started surfing the Internet to look for all sorts of phrases that
might throw light on the mystery of Polish beach separators.
I found a site on Poland's affairs that covered this "phenomenon"quite exactly.According to the
site, beach separators have been part of Polish beach-going culture for a long time, but have recently
been getting a lot of attention online, after foreign tourists started posting photos on social networks.
Beach separators vary in size according to the size of the group. You'll see tiny ones only surround-
ing the space around a single beach towel, and giant ones separating a large part of the beach. They
aren't designed to protect their users away from prying eyes. It's no secret that strong winds are very
common on the shores of the Baltic Sea,so they were originally meant to allow beach-goers to enjoy
sunbathing without having their belongings blown away or sand blown in their faces.
However,in recent years, people have begun criticizing them.During the summer, beach separa-
tors are placed so close to each other that a person can hardly pass between them, let alone find a place
to put their own beach towels. This creates a problem for foreign tourists unfamiliar with them, who
just want a place to lie down on the sand. And thus they can easily create all kinds of conflicts due to
lack of space. For example, some people leave the beach for hours but leave their separators in place to
make sure that their space doesn't get occupied by someone else.
Though I have visited a fair number of seaside resorts(度假胜地)across Europe,I hope that I will
go to visit it one day.
4.Which of the following can replace the underlined word "intrigued"in Paragraph 1
A.Interested.
B.Satisfied.
C.Terrified.
D.Encouraged.
5.Why do the beach-goers set up beach separators?
A.To attract others'attention.
B.To take a good sunbath.
C.To keep themselves in private.
D.To protect themselves from thieves.
·42·
6.What are beach separators blamed for?
A.They cause plenty of garbage.
B.They fail to function properly.
C.They take up too much space.
D.They are out of place.
7.What is the text mainly about?
A.A new Polish attraction.
B.Big challenges on the beach.
C.An unforgettable journey to Poland.
D.Beach separators in Poland.

ed in chatting, though. You're getting into their personal lives.20 If,however, the person is open
to talking, this can lead to a real conversation-and maybe even provide a way for you to offer help.

B.It's good to hear kindness.
C.But you might also think about the situation.
D.Maybe they don't want to discuss that with a stranger.

The following spring, when I was sixteen years old,a new family moved into our neighborhood.
The wife,Melissa, quickly made friends with my mother, and the children, though younger than me,

Good morning,everyone!
I'm glad to have this chance to share some ideas a-
bout garbage classification with you.
In my opinion, the earth is the home of all of us,so
it's our duty to protect the environment voluntarily.By
garbage classification,we can not only reduce pollution
but also save energy, which will pave the way for recy-
cling valuable resources.
For the sake of our environment and life,we are
expected to learn to sort the rubbish and make it a hab-
it.
Thank you!

Paragraph 1:
Then we drove to our friends'house, made our
way to the door with our box and bags, and knocked ea-
gerly. When they opened the door, all four of them
were there, clearly surprised by our visit. As we
stepped inside the kitchen, their eyes found the box,
and the parents'jaws dropped.Handing the items over
to them,my mother said,"We just wanted to bless
you."Then my mother hugged the wife and patted her
softly on the shoulder. After that,my mother naturally
helped her friend to put the groceries in place, smiling at
her friend from time to time.
Paragraph 2:
Looking at my mother,I felt proud to be the
daughter of this incredible woman. She was the one
who had worked so hard to pay for the groceries that she
didn't hesitate to give to those in need.Because of her,
we were able to share this amazing experience. What a
great example she set for me that day!Though our in-
tention was to bless our friends, thirteen years later I
still feel like I'm the one who received the greatest
blessing:one of my most cherished memories with my
mother.
