【解析】
【原文】W: Hi, everyone. If you’ve been with us from the beginning, you’ll know that we began our tour in Amsterdam, walked our way through Germany and Austria, down into Italy, back up through Switzerland and this week we are in Paris. We won’t spend much time at the big attractions. In a tourist destination like Paris, even a new traveler knows to see the famous art museums of Paris and no one misses the Eiffel Tower. But we’re going to some of the places the average tourist misses. For instance, the best view in town may not be from the top of the Eiffel Tower, but from the top of the Montparnasse Tower. The view includes the Eiffel Tower as well as everything else. It’s cheaper and easier to get up here. We can join a ride on a public bus. I like the views from Line 63. To cover more territory, traffic and streets for you, I ride the subway. Many European cities have subway systems, the one in Paris is really amazing. You can go anywhere in town for a reasonable price. And don’t worry, getting lost is cheap. In fact, you could stay underground all day long on one ticket about the cost of a cup of coffee.

细节理解题。根据Shuttle(往返巴士)Fare部分中“It runs during the spring and summer and adult fare is $5 (free for youth ages 15 and under). (它在春季和夏季运行,成人票价为5美元(15岁及以下青少年免费))”和Entry Fee部分中的“Free for children aged 16 and under. (16岁及以下儿童免费)”可知,公园对16岁及以下的青少年实行免费入场,所以“这个公园对15岁及以下的青少年来说是经济实惠的”是正确表述。故选项D。
B
In a small village in Pakistan, I drove cattle along the village’s edge day in and day out. Life was simple as a cowherd (牧牛人), with mud homes and green fields, yet my dreams were great. One day, a group of students in uniforms sparked (引发) my curiosity. I demanded to see their books, and the pictures within the books fueled my imagination. I confirmed my dream to attend school.
Though my family was poor, my heart longed for the world beyond the village. Months later, my uncle, a man with great determination, convinced my parents of the value of education. I entered primary school, my mind absorbing every lesson like crazy.
My academic journey faced a challenge when I decided to study in Karachi, a dynamic city known for its rich culture and excellent schools. The villagers had a doubt that a boy from the fields could dream of such heights. Though I struggled with low spirits and even faced a difficult time, my brother’s words, “Your challenges are catalysts to success”, kept ringing in my mind. I turned to writing, finding comfort and recognition in words.
Years later, college fees were another obstacle. A mountain of debt seemed impossible to pay off. But I found a part-time job at a newspaper, which led to a chance to work in Hyderabad and then a career in calligraphy and advertising. This experience was a turning point, letting me see the world I had dreamed of, where my skills were valued and my potential was shown.
Reflecting on the past, the doubters hold no power. My story is a proof of the power of dreams and hard work. I hope my journey inspires others to chase their dreams, and to believe that every challenge is an opportunity to rise higher.
24. What first inspired the author to chase education?
A. The dynamic culture of Karachi.

26. Which is key to the author’s career success?
A. His early experience as a cowherd.
B. His excellent academic performance.
C. His working experience at a newspaper.
D. His receiving recognition at college in Hyderabad.

A. To describe the challenges of rural life in Pakistan.
B. To explain the importance of family support in education.
C. To share his personal career development in creative industries.
D. To encourage readers to achieve their dreams despite difficulties.
【答案】24. C 25. B 26. C 27. D

Elephant transit Home
In both Africa and Asia elephants are being threatened by changes in their natural habitats. People are moving into the elephants’ habitats and endangering their survival. In the country of Sri Lanka, there is one place where elephants are not only protected but also respected. It is called the Elephant transit Home (ETH).
Set up in 1995, the ETH aims to protect and nurture baby elephants that are found injured or living without their mothers in the wild. Every year about 30 baby elephants in Sri Lanka need help. As many as possible are brought to the ETH. There they are given food, shelter, and medical care. Most importantly, they are given the chance to be with other elephants and become part of a herd (象群).
A day at the ETH begins early in the morning when the baby elephants are given their first feeding of milk. During the day, each baby will drink an average of 13 gallons of milk. Older elephants are fed mostly coconut leaves and other native plants. Then the elephants are allowed to walk around, eating the grass and forming a herd. The cost of caring for the baby elephants is high. The ETH spends about $125,000 each year on powdered milk for the baby elephants.
At the ETH, workers try to reduce human connection with the elephants. They also try to increase bonds (联系) between the elephants. It usually takes three years for a baby elephant to be set free into its natural habitat. The elephants are sent back to the wild together with other orphans with whom they have bonded. This program helps them return to the wild as members of a herd that will communicate with each other and take care of each other.
The ETH is considered one of the best animal protection sites in the world. Not only are the elephants cared for, they are treated with respect. Most importantly, they go back to live in the wild, where they belong.
28. What does the underlined word “nurture” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Set free. B. Care for. C. Focus on. D. Relate to.

A. It receives about $125000 each year.
B. It is the largest animal protection site.
C. It helps to keep baby elephants safe.
D. It changes elephants’ habitats for the better.
30. The workers reduce human connection with the elephants to ______.
A. train them to stay away from hunters
B. provide them with more living space
C. study them better in a natural environment
D. help them make it in the wild as a herd
31. What’s the purpose of the passage?

Playing pianos could help protect you from dementia (痴呆), according to a recent study looking into the brain health of older musicians. It investigated picking up a new instrument later in life. Playing music was associated with less age-related cognitive (认知的) decline.
The Canada-China study, published in PLOS Biology, recruited 50 adults with an average age of 65. Half didn’t play an instrument, and half played an instrument for at least 32 years. It also found 24 young people, with an average age of 23 without musical training.
The scientists scanned the participants using MRI (磁共振成像) to measure their brain blood flow. During the scans, participants were played a recording of someone speaking above background noise. They were asked to identify what the main speaker was saying. Scientists found the older musicians’ brains responded to the challenge similarly to the younger participants’ brains. The older non-musicians, however, showed signs of cognitive decline.
While the musicians benefitted from strong right-brain connections, the non-musicians didn’t. They had to compensate by using the left side of their brains, putting more stress on the brain. “The brains of older musicians stay sharp thanks to years of training,” said co-author Dr YiDu, from China. “Our study shows musical experience builds cognitive reserve, helping their brains avoid the usual age-related overwork when understanding speech in noisy places.”
As we age, many brain’s functions like memory and learning deteriorate, which can eventually lead to dementia. Scientists believe cognitive reserve—the brain’s ability to cope with damage — might help build adaptability and prevent this decline.
“It’s not clear how this works.” Dr Morten, associate professor of ageing in Copenhagen, noted. “In general, it’s advised to train your brain, but the data is actually not that clear.”
32. What were the participants probably asked to do in the study?
A. Take a language test. B. Play a song recording.
C. Identify background noise. D. Recognize speech content.
33. Why did the older non-musicians put more stress on their brains during the MRI scan?
A. They had weak right-brain links. B. They couldn’t hear the speaker clearly.
C. Their left brains were not functional. D. They compensated for the overuse of brains.
34. What does the underlined word “deteriorate” in paragraph 5 mean?
A. Steady. B. Improve. C. Disappear. D. Worsen.
35. What will the follow-up study focus on?
A. Making use of the findings. B. Clarifying the purpose of the study.
C. Conducting further research. D. Assessing participants’ cognitive reserve.
【答案】32. D 33. A 34. D 35. C
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍一项关于弹奏钢琴与预防老年痴呆关联的研究,揭示长期演奏乐器对大脑认知的积极作用。
【32题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中的“During the scans, participants were played a recording of someone speaking above background noise. They were asked to identify what the main speaker was saying. (扫描过程中,研究人员向参与者播放一段夹杂背景噪音的人声录音,并要求他们辨别出说话者的主要内容)”可知,研究中参与者被要求识别录音中的讲话内容。故选D项。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中的“While the musicians benefitted from strong right-brain connections, the non-musicians didn’t. They had to compensate by using the left side of their brains, putting more stress on the brain. (音乐家的右脑连接更为紧密并从中获益,而非音乐家则没有这样的优势。他们不得不动用左脑来代偿,这给大脑增加了更多负担)”可知,老年非音乐家在磁共振扫描中大脑负担更重的原因是他们的右脑连接较弱。故选A项。
【34题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第五段中的“As we age, many brain’s functions like memory and learning deteriorate, which can eventually lead to dementia. (随着年龄增长,大脑的许多功能如记忆力、学习能力会______,最终可能导致痴呆症)”可知,最终可能导致痴呆症,说明“deteriorate”的结果是引发痴呆,结该词意为“恶化;衰退”。故选D项。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中““It’s not clear how this works.” Dr Morten, associate professor of ageing in Copenhagen, noted. “In general, it’s advised to train your brain, but the data is actually not that clear.” (哥本哈根大学老年学副教授莫滕博士指出:“这种作用机制目前尚不清楚。总体而言,人们建议进行大脑训练,但相关数据其实并不充分”)”可知,当前研究仍存在未明确的机制和数据缺口,因此后续研究很可能会针对这些空白展开进一步探索。故选C项。

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
At Piedmont Middle School, kids loved to play soccer. Laura had dreamed of playing for the school team since first grade. Her cousin Mike had scored the winning goal in the county middle school championship, which inspired Laura. So, when she finally joined the team in sixth grade, she was over the moon.
However, Laura’s excitement was short-lived. It all went wrong in her very first game. Laura passed the ball in the wrong direction, straight to a player in blue from the other team. That player quickly shot it into the net and scored a goal. The coach made her sit on the bench (替补席) for the rest of the season. Heartbroken, Laura figured she wasn’t good enough to play soccer.
At the start of the summer holiday, Laura felt at a loss and wanted nothing more than to erase soccer from her memory. A few days later, Laura’s mom found her lying on the sofa, watching music videos on her phone. “You should practice instead,” her mom said.
“What’s the point?” Laura asked. “How can I improve my skills alone?”
Her mother continued, “For every problem, there’s a solution. Let me film you during practice so you can see how to get better.”
Laura didn’t think it would help, especially since the season was over, and there were no official practice sessions. But her mom was undeterred (不气馁的). “The best players practice even when the season’s over,” her mom said. She reminded Laura of how Mike had spent countless hours practicing in the school field during the summer vacation, running miles under the hot sun to perfect his skills.
“But I need at least one partner to practice plays with,” said Laura, sounding interested.
Her mom said with a gentle smile, “We’ll find the solution together.”

2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The next morning, Laura’s mom woke her up early.

When the new season arrived, Laura stepped onto the field with confidence.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 The next morning, Laura’s mom woke her up early. Laura rubbed her eyes, wondering what the day had in store. To her surprise, her mom had arranged for her cousin Mike to join them at the park. With Mike’s help, Laura practiced passing and receiving the ball, while her mom filmed the sessions. They spent hours on the field, working on different drills and plays. Laura began to see the value in practicing even when there were no official games or practices. Her confidence slowly started to return as she noticed her skills getting sharper.
When the new season arrived, Laura stepped onto the field with confidence. In the first half, Laura moved past other players easily. She showed her new skills and scored a wonderful goal. Her coach and teammates were impressed. In the second half, Laura attacked more and scored one more goal with the help of her teammates. The crowd cheered as she scored the winning goal. When the game was over, Laura’s coach and teammates praised her improvement. “For every problem, there’s a solution” Laura said with pride, knowing her efforts finally paid off.

A His early experience as a cowherd.
B. His excellent academic performance.
C. His working experience at a newspaper.
D. His receiving recognition at college in Hyderabad.
27. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the text?
A. To describe the challenges of rural life in Pakistan.
B. To explain the importance of family support in education.
C. To share his personal career development in creative industries.
D. To encourage readers to achieve their dreams despite difficulties.

Not only are the elephants cared for they are treated with respect. Most importantly, they go back to live in the wild, where they belong.

We spoke with three experts — Tim McWelch, Warren Paddley, and Jeff Masters — about how to survive a disaster when you can’t evacuate. ___36___
Here are their tips and advice on surviving a natural disaster.
McWelch: Every family should have an emergency plan that addresses the most likely disasters in their region. ___37___ These skills need to be learned and practiced long before that dangerous moment, because you simply won’t have time to read a survival book or watch a how-to video in a crisis. Get some first aid training, learn how to cook without a kitchen, figure out different ways to heat and cool at least one room in your home. ___38___
Paddley: A lot of people just can’t afford to buy all the survival things you need, but there are some basic things you must have in your homes. ___39___ People don’t realize how important that is until their power is off, and they’re stumbling (跌跌撞撞) around to find a flashlight (手电筒) that’s 10 years old with corroded (被腐蚀的) batteries inside. There are also solar-powered lanterns you can charge during the day.
Masters: ___40___ For example, cell phones are great, but the towers can go down, so a land line (座机) is handy. Another critical thing is a battery-powered radio that can receive NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts. Get one that has the function to warn you when a weather warning is issued for your county.
A. Develop an emergency plan.
B. Store at least a week’s supply of food and water.
C. The first thing is a reliable light source with extra batteries.
D. Practical survival skills should also be part of every family’s game plan.
E. Each one shared tips on preparation and remaining safe during the event.
F. Often, people don’t realize some things would help them in the event of a disaster.
G. Learn everything you can, since you never know what might be useful in a disaster.

注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The next morning, Laura’s mom woke her up early.

If you've been with us from the beginning, you'll know that we began our tour in amsterdam, walked our way through germany and austria, down into italy, back up through switzerland, and this week we are in paris. We won't spend much time at the big attractions in a tourist destination like paris. Even a new traveller knows to see the famous art museums of paris. And no one misses the iphone tower, but we're going to some of the places the average tourist misses. For instance, the best view in town may not be from the top of the iphone tower, but from the top of the mont partners tower. The view includes the iphone tower as well as everything else. It's cheaper and easier to get up. here. We can join a ride on a public bus. I like the views from line sixty three to cover more territory, traffic and streets for you. I ride the subway.
