On November 1, 2025, the upgraded Hainan offshore duty-free policy was officially implemented, bringing significant changes to the duty-free shopping market. The core content of this policy adjustment can be summarized as “one addition” and “three optimizations”, which comprehensively improves the policy’s coverage and convenience.
“One addition” refers to expanding the scope of duty-free commodities. On the basis of the original 45 categories, 2 new commodity categories are added: pet supplies and portable musical instruments. Pet supplies include pet utensils, toys, and food, while portable musical instruments cover 19 types such as flutes, guitars, and violins. In addition, 3 sub-categories are added, such as sweeping robots and humidifiers in small household appliances, and micro drones in electronic consumer products.
“Three optimizations” include multiple measures to benefit consumers. First, 6 types of domestic commodities such as clothing, shoes and hats, and tea are allowed to be sold duty-free in offshore duty-free stores. Second, the eligible groups are expanded to include departing passengers, who can enjoy the policy within the annual quota. Third, local residents in Hainan with an island departure record within a natural year can purchase 15 categories of commodities such as cosmetics through “on-the-spot purchase and immediate pickup” without restrictions on the number of times.
4. When was the upgraded Hainan offshore duty-free policy officially implemented?
A. October 20, 2025.
B. November 1, 2025.
C. October 31, 2025.
D. November 3, 2025.
5. What is included in “one addition” of the policy upgrade?
A. Reducing the duty-free shopping quota.
B. Adding 2 new commodity categories.
C. Limiting the number of shopping times for local residents.
D. Excluding departing passengers from eligible groups.
6. Which of the following is a newly added commodity category?
A. Daily necessities.
B. Pet supplies.
C. Luxury bags.
D. Cosmetics.
7. What can local residents in Hainan do after the policy upgrade?
A. Purchase “on-the-spot pickup” commodities without limit with an island departure record.
B. Buy duty-free commodities without any quota restrictions.
C. Purchase all duty-free commodities at will.
D. Enjoy the policy without an island departure record.

Some people have said aging is more a slide into forgetfulness than a journey towards wisdom. However, a growing body of research suggests that late-in-life learning in reality education possibly does an aging brain good.
Throughout life, people’s brains constantly restore themselves. In the late 1960s, British brain scientist Geoffrey Raisman studied growth in damaged brain regions of rats through an electron microscope; their brains were making new connections. This meant brains may change every time a person learns something new.
Of course, that doesn’t mean the brain isn’t affected by the effects of time. Just as height usually declines over the years, so does brain volume: Humans lose about 4 percent every decade starting in their 40s. But that reduction doesn’t necessarily make people think slower; as long as we are alive and functioning, we can change our brains with new information and experiences.
In fact, scientists now suspect accumulating novel experiences, facts, and skills can keep people’s minds more flexible. New pathways can strengthen our ever-changing mental structure, even as the brain shrinks.
Conventional ways like word puzzles and brain-training apps can contribute to mental durability. Even something as simple as taking a different route to the grocery store or going somewhere new on vacation can keep the brain healthy.
A desire for new life challenges can further boost brainpower. Research about aging adults who take on new enterprises shows improved function and memory as well as a reduced risk of mental disease. Openness — a, characteristic defined by curiosity and a desire for knowledge-may also help folks pass brain tests. Some folks are born with this take-in-the-world attitude, but those who aren’t as genetically gifted aren’t necessarily out of luck. While genes can encourage an interest in doing new things, a 2012 study in the journal Psychology and Aging found completing reasoning tasks like puzzles and number games can enhance that desire for novel experiences, which can, in turn, refresh the brain. That’s why brain scientist Richard Kennedy says “It’s not that old dogs can’t learn new tricks. It’s that maybe old dogs don’t realize why they should.”
8. What do some people think of aging adults?
A. Their wisdom grows as time goes by. B. Their memory is gradually getting worse.
C. They can benefit from late-in-life learning. D. They are likely to have mental health issues.
9. What can we conclude from Geoffrey Raisman’s finding?
A. Brain damage seriously prevents one’s learning.
B. Brain power weakens slower than we imagine.
C. Brains may refresh and improve with learning.
D. Brains make connections under good physical conditions.
10. What is one thing that helps maintain the health of our brain even as it shrinks?
A Doing daily routines by conventional means. B. Avoiding worrying about our mental strength.
C. Imitating old dogs’ way of learning new tricks. D. Approaching everyday tasks in novel ways.
11. What is the finding of the 2012 study in the journal Psychology and Aging?
A. Wishing to solve puzzles enhances one’s reasoning power.
B. Playing number games unexpectedly stimulates one’s memory.
C. Desiring new experiences can help to refresh the brain.
D. Learning new tricks should not be confined to old dogs only.

Social media is taking over our lives, for example TikTok. These social media platforms have transformed from a way for people to stay connected to an industry where even kids can make money from their posts. While this may seem like another promising innovation, it’s really full of hidden false realities.
In 2018, the average American income was about $63,000. However, TikTok users can get $50,000 to $150,000 for one video made for a brand. Those with over a million followers may make as much as $30,000 each month — much more than most working adults. This difference raises questions.
The problem is not just about high pay for what some see as a simple job. It also builds false admiration and an untrue sense of reality among viewers. Many popular TikTokers are still teenagers, and becoming famous so young can lead to problems like poor mental health later. Since 27% of TikTok users are between 13 and 17 years old, they are easily influenced. They may start to measure their own worth by fame, money, and looks rather than real skills or hard work.
TikTok can be useful for advertising, but its content may harm young people’s view of success. If they believe that being good-looking and posting a short video is all it takes to succeed, their own ideas about working hard could change. This also ignores people who work long hours at regular jobs for much less pay.
Richard Colyer, head of Metaphor, Inc., shared his thoughts: “We should feed young people’s minds, not just their bank accounts. TikTok can be good if used in the right way. Money alone is not enough, technology alone is not enough, and being connected online can be harmful if it is only online.”
As someone who also uses TikTok, I enjoy the app for fun in my free time. I do not think it is wrong to earn money through entertainment. But we should ask: what does becoming famous from a 15-second video really teach the young?
12. What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A. Social networking.
B. Making money on social media.
C. A job offered by TikTok.
D. Staying connected to the Internet.
13. Which is the possible influence of TikTok on its young users?
A. They tend to live an adult life too soon.
B. They are forced to pay for certain services.
C. They may abandon other social media.
D. They are likely to develop false values.
14. What can we infer from Richard Colyer’s comments?
A. TikTok can be positive if used wisely.
B. Young TikTokers should not earn money.
C. Teens should learn useful skills via TikTok.
D. Online videos need content checking first.
15. What is the author’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To share personal fun experiences on TikTok.
B. To warn about the hidden problems of social media fame.
C. To explain how young people can make money online.
D To suggest ways to improve social media platforms.

When I landed in a small town in New Zealand as an exchange student, I thought I was ready for everything — new faces, language barriers, strange social patterns and even homesickness. Still, the smallest things made me feel out of place.
Luckily, the Wilsons, my host family, did everything they could to help me settle in — driving me around, sharing meals, and even letting me use their kitchen when. I. missed Chinese food. With their warmth and support, everything seemed to fall into place.
But at school, small moments felt bigger than I’d imagined. In our first literature class, we discussed a Hemingway story. Everyone jumped in actively, while I struggled to speak up. My desk-mate encouraged me, “Next time, just speak up.” I nodded, forcing a bitter smile.
And just like that, I found myself in another cultural trap, Mrs. Wilson’s birthday dinner. At the table, I answered politely but kept mostly to myself. Mrs. Wilson noticed my silence and gently asked, “You alright, sweet girl? You’ re so quiet tonight.” My face reddened. Was my silence seen as cold, rather than polite?
That night, restless and wide awake, I wondered if I needed to laugh louder, speak faster; or hide parts of myself just to feel I belonged. Questions flooded my mind, none with answers.
A few days later, our teacher announced there would be a Culture Festival next week. “You’ ll prepare a stand to share your own culture — food, crafts, customs ... anything meaningful. You can not only display your culture but also make it interactive, allowing people to try new things, learn traditional skills. or share stories and cultural symbols,” she said. The class lit up with excitement. I sat frozen, mind racing: how could I share my traditions in English? The thought made my stomach twisted (扭曲). Yet, I gathered myself with a deep breath and signed up. After that, I threw myself wholeheartedly into preparations, until the day finally came.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。

On November 1, 2025, the upgraded Hainan offshore duty-free policy was officially implemented, bringing significant changes to the duty-free shopping market. The core content of this policy adjustment can be summarized as “one addition” and “three optimizations”, which comprehensively improves the policy’s coverage and convenience.

In addition, 3 sub-categories are added, such as sweeping robots and humidifiers in small household appliances, and micro drones in electronic consumer products.

In fact scientists now suspect accumulating novel experiences, facts, and skills can keep people’s minds more flexible.
A. Doing daily routines by conventional means.
【答案】8. B 9. C 10. D 11. C

D. To suggest ways to improve social media platforms.
【答案】12. B 13. D 14. A 15. B

In order to explore the impact of AI on English learning and exchange ideas about its advantages and disadvantages, our class hosted a discussion on “AI and English Learning” last week.
Many students noted the potential benefits of AI, such as providing personalized learning and instant feedback. However, some also expressed concerns about the negative effects on traditional teaching methods and interpersonal communication. From my perspective, this was a thought — provoking discussion which inspired me to ponder how we can strike a balance between technology and human communication.
Overall, this discussion highlighted the need for continued examination of AI’s role in English learning as we strive to create effective and engaging learning environments.

And just like that I found myself in another cultural trap, Mrs.

【答案】【参考范文】(116+115词)
At the Culture Festival, I stood behind my stand, nervous but ready. Taking a deep breath, I once again neatly arranged all the well-prepared items: red paper and scissors. Soon, students and teachers gathered, curiosity in their eyes. I welcomed them with a smile and demonstrated: fold, cut, unfold — and a butterfly spread its wings. A wave of surprise rippled through the crowd. Encouraged, I invited a boy to try; his star turned out uneven, yet drew laughter and applause. More joined eagerly, and I moved among them, guiding their hands, praising their efforts and celebrating each creation. When a teacher proudly held up her paper flower, the cheers grew louder. Red pieces fell to the floor, and my confidence, once hidden, shone through every new pattern.
From that day on, my world here started to change. In the hallway, students waved butterflies from my stand and greeted me with bright “Ni hao!” My heart lifted as I waved back. In literature class, I gave voice to my ideas with newfound confidence. My English was not flawless, yet my voice was steady, and instead of silence I saw nods and smiles. After class, a girl asked softly, “Can you show us more about your culture?” Her words lingered in my heart, echoing like a gentle reminder. In that echo, I realized I had not only broken free from cultural shock but also found my place in a shared story — one written by many voices, yet open enough to hold my own.
