Excitement filled the air as we were aboard the ship to Antarctica, enjoying the warmth of the room. Then one morning we saw a sign announcing an open invitation to all passengers: Polar Plunge (极地跳水) at 12:30.
My husband and I stared at the sign. His face brightened, but I had a wave of panic in my stomach. Hundreds of reasons for not doing it filled my mind. “No way,” I said. “For starters, we’re much too old. The water’s freezing cold. Heights terrify me. I’m not much of a swimmer. Not only that,” I complained, “but it means I’d have to wear a swimsuit publicly with so many people looking at my fat body.” He gave me a quick hug along with his appealing smile. “We’ll never have another chance,” he insisted. My determination gradually weakened. My heart “No way” gave way to a weak “Maybe”. Finally I forced myself to say, “Okay. Let’s go for it.”
Dressed in our swimsuits and shaking with anxiety, we gathered with the other participants in the lower part of the ship. I eyed the group. A daring teen tried to be first in line. A twenty-something woman in a bikini also stepped forward. The remaining few ranged in age from enthusiastic young people to middle-aged adults joking and laughing. We two eighty-year-olds were visibly the ancient, senior citizens of the group.
Our turn came all too soon. We moved onto the jump-off point, legs shaking, but it was too late to turn back. We held our hands together, took a deep breath, and took the Polar Plunge into the icy ocean. After what seemed a century, we rose to the surface and swam to the safety platform. Shaking and laughing, I shouted excitedly, “I can’t believe I did that.” That afternoon, I gained my fame and became the focus of the day.
In my memory bank, I’ve stored that fame, and it will last the rest of my life. However, my one-time, completely wild risk is enough. Ah, but the brief moment of fame was so wonderful.

A new survey conducted by the national Center for Health Statistics has discovered a significant gap between American teens’ perceptions (感知) of the support they receive and what their parents believe they provide. The study showed that only 26% of teens feel they get the social and emotional support they need all the time, while parents are almost three times as likely to think they do. A concerning 20% of teens said they rarely or never received the support they needed, and 3% of parents perceived the same issue. This difference tells that parents may be underestimating their children’s need for support.
Dr. Jeffrey Arnett, a developmental psychologist, stressed the importance of the parent-adolescent relationship, stating that parents play a central role in their children’s lives. Lisa Damour, a psychologist, pointed out a possible disconnect between the type of support parents think they offer and what teens actually need. She noted that while parents often provide advice or guidance, teens are more likely to seek empathy (共情) and reassurance.
The lack of perceived support was linked to poorer health outcomes. Teens who felt supported reported higher rates of depression and anxiety. They also struggled with poor sleep and expressed lower satisfaction with life. The study further revealed that this issue affected specific groups more seriously: Black teens reported feeling less supported than their parents believed, and girls generally felt less supported than boys did.
The US surgeon general has called attention to the importance of youth mental health. Help them feel connected and step out of their comfort zones — through sports, education, arts, civic engagement, interactive dialogue and more to build broader social connections. Create a safe space at home where teens feel"seen, heard and valued". Supporting teenagers also involves simply being curious about their experiences and offering empathy, which can be therapeutic (有疗效的) and beneficial for their mental health.
8. What is the main finding of the survey?
A. Parents and teens share similar views on family support.
B. Most teenagers refuse to discuss their feelings with adults.
C. Parental problems are the main cause of family arguments.
D. Parents believe they offer more support than teens actually feel.
9. What does Lisa Damour advise parents to do?
A. Turn to professional therapists.
B. Stop making choices for their kids.
C. Put themselves in their kids’ shoes.
D. Give more practical tips and guidance.
10. What can we infer from paragraph 3?
A. Boys are unlikely to suffer from low spirits.
B. Perceived support must result in life satisfaction.
C. Children from wealthy families feel more supported.
D. Black teenage girls need their parents’ support the most.
11. What does paragraph 4 mainly focus on?
A. The obvious importance of enough support.
B. The specific measures to give teens support.
C. The hidden reasons for parents’ low support.
D. The urgent need for caring about mental health.

However you do it, booking holidays can be a headache. It used to mean a visit to a travel agent in person. Now online firms are expecting to do the brain work with artificial intelligence: Trip. com has brought out TripGenie. Booking. com has introduced AI Trip planner.
The idea that AI might spare humans some boring tasks is a large part of its commercial (商业的) concern. For those driven mad by booking holidays, having AI design personalized routes would be very helpful. “You might want to go on a romantic holiday, but make it at a lower expense,” Rob Francis, Booking.com’s chief technologist, once said confidently, “Traditional search has no filter (过滤) for “heart-shaped beds”.
But are the online agents’ AIs up to it? Evercore, an investment bank, tested some and drew a conclusion with an example: When we asked TripGenie to find a romantic hotel in Paris for a couple, its top suggestion was by the airport.
The online firms may also face tough competition from OpenAI, the world’s best-known AI firm. It is testing Operator, an AI which copies a human’s use of the web. Some analysts think OpenAI might soon be ready to take the online booking firms’ market.
Yet the incumbents have the benefit of a flood of data, from hotel availability to user reviews. Operator can’t yet book flights or hotels directly — it will surf on other platforms. The market values of the two big online agents are up from a year ago, despite news of OpenAI’s new bot.
Sometimes AI booking agents can make mistakes. Air Canada was found responsible after its chatbot wrongly promised a user a discount. Even worse, an AI might be fooled by a prompt (指令) into booking a more expensive flight, or handing over cash to a bad guy.
And they may not prove the ability of knowing people’s endless variety of taste. An expensive view of a metal tower is not everyone’s idea of romance. On Valentine’s Day one couple, the groom Icelandic and the bride French, got married on a flight between their countries. A honeymoon suite at Charles de Gaulle airport might be a best choice.
12. What do online firms expect to do according to the text?
A. To use AI to make more profits in competition.
B. To replace traditional searching methods with AI.
C. To develop AI to assist people in designing travel plans.
D. To go with the stream of the application of AI in society.
13. What can we learn from Evercore’s test?
A. AIs have taken over the booking market.
B. TripGenie is a total failure for Trip. com firm.
C. There is no possibility to meet online firms’ expectation.
D. The current AIs aren’t powerful enough to count on completely.
14. What does “incumbents” in paragraph 5 refer to?
A. The future travel agents. B. The testing organizations.
C. The existing online firms. D. The traditional travel firms.
15. What does the text mainly convey?
A. AI booking is in its early days.
B. People prefer AI to travel agents.
C. Employing AI to book is highly risky.
D. AI is taking the lead in booking holidays.

Some adults worry that you’re more interested in the screen in front of you than the world around you. ___17___ Because you use your phone so much and they wonder how you will deal with school, friends, and family. ___19___ Well, probably not. The fact is that many of today’s teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. The youth also seem to be enthusiastic (热情的) and willing to become leaders. More young people than ever volunteer to help their communities. So if you’re one of the oh-ohs, there’s reason to be hopeful about the future. ___20___ Chances are that you will do GR8 (great) and LOL (laugh out loud)

【66题答案】
【答案】
Dear Mary,
I’m Li Hua, the president of the Student Union. I’m glad to hear that you plan to set up a new club. I suggest establishing a Cross-Cultural Exchange Club, whose purpose is to promote understanding among students from different cultural backgrounds.
The club can hold activities like cultural theme sharing sessions, where members introduce their own cultures. We can also organize cultural experience trips, which will be a lot of fun. As for the organization, we can have regular meetings and elect leaders who are responsible for planning activities.
I hope these suggestions can be helpful.
Yours,
Li Hua
