Wearing all black and sitting in her sunlit living room, Toronto-based Sarah Robichaud is teaching a ballet-inspired routine to 80 students on Zoom. The professionally trained dancer spreads her arms wide to a slow cover version of “I’m Gonna Be” as her students repeat the routine. Many of Robichaud’s students are seated as well. They have Parkinson’s disease and typically move with difficulty, but when they try to mirror her flowing and graceful movements, a look of ease comes over them.
“It’s profound,” says Robichaud, the founder of Canada’s non-profit Dancing With Parkinson’s programme, which offers free daily dance classes online and in person. “I’ve been doing this for 16 years, and I literally have to choke back my tears every time I see all the dancers trying.”
With growing evidence that dancing helps improve brain health and manage symptoms of movement disorders, including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and even brain injury, accessible dance programmes around the world are helping improve the lives of millions.
Robichaud has seen the upside first-hand. A few years after she started the program, her grandfather was diagnosed (确诊) with Parkinson’s. Robichaud danced with him in his long-term care home until his final days. Those memories are brought back every time she teaches, says Robichaud. “The sympathy and care that I have for our dancers is from my grandfather.”
Recently, one of Robichaud’s students, Tom, a man in his fifties who, before trying the programme, was convinced that dancing wasn’t for him, said that he is now able to get around with much more ease. “I cannot deny how this is changing my life,” he told her.
Her students aren’t imagining it. Various studies have shown that activities that target skills such as balance, coordination, flexibility, creativity and memory work can improve Parkinson’s symptoms. And for many, dance is one of the most enjoyable and efficient ways of doing so.
4. What are special about Robichaud’s students?
A. They look like her grandfather.
B. They suffer from physical inflexibility.
C. They promise to become professionals.
D. They can copy the teacher’s movements perfectly.
5. Why does Robichaud mention her grandfather?
A. To state the benefit of dancing ballet. B. To tell the reason for running the program.
C. To illustrate how terrible the disease is. D. To help her students overcome the disease.
6. How has the program affected Tom?
A. He has acquired numerous survival skills.
B. He has made a full recovery from Parkinson’s.
C. The rigidity from his Parkinson’s has lessened.
D. His way of life has been transformed dramatically.
7. What is the best title of the text?

Almost every week the world takes another step in the direction of artificial general intelligence. The most powerful AI models can do astonishing tasks from writing detailed reports to creating videos on demand. Small wonder, then, that so many people worry they will soon be knocked out. But is it actually putting anyone out of work?
Lots of experts claim that it is. For instance, people identify with a link between automation and declining demand for translators. At the same time, however, official American data show the number of people employed in interpretation, translation and the like is 7% higher than a year ago. Klarna, a fintech firm, which had boasted about using the tech to automate customer service is now undertaking an about-turn. “There will always be a human if you want,” Sebastian Siemiatkowski, its boss, has recently said.
We examine American data on employment by career, singling out workers that are believed to be vulnerable to AI. These are white-collar employees, including people in back-office support, financial operations, sales and much more besides. There is a similar pattern here: we find no evidence of an AI hit. Quite the opposite: over the past year the share of employment in white-collar work has risen very slightly.
According to the relevant data, American unemployment remains low, at 4.2%. wage growth is still reasonably strong, which is difficult to agree with the notion that AI is causing demand for labour to fall. Trends outside America point in a similar direction. Earnings growth in much of the rich world, including Britain, the euro area and Japan, is strong.
There are two competing explanations for these trends. The first is that, despite the endless announcements about how firms are integrating AI into their operations, few make much use of the technology for serious work. The second is that even when companies do adopt the tech, they do not let people go. AI may simply help workers do their jobs faster, rather than making them fired. Whatever the explanation, for now for now there is no need to panic.
8. What makes people worried at the beginning of the text?
A. AI may make them unemployed soon.
B. AI becomes more and more powerful.
C. They can’t do astonishing tasks due to AI.
D. They are incapable of making the most of AI.
9. What do Sebastian Siemiatkowski’s words imply?
A. No one can block the application of AI.
B. Human involvement will always have a place.
C. The innovation of technology ends up in failure.
D. Only human can deal with customer service in this firm.
10. Paragraph 3 and 4 can function as ________.
A. the new viewpoint contrary to the above.
B. the proof to support the author’s opinion.
C. the phenomenon leading to the following part.
D. the background information to persuade readers.
11. What does the author think about AI according to the text?
A. Don’t ignore the use of AI. B. We can’t overestimate AI.
C. The future of AI is promising. D. AI hasn’t taken human’s job.
A 9. B 10. B 11. D

根据第一段中“Almost every week the world takes another step in the direction of artificial general intelligence. The most powerful AI models can do astonishing tasks from writing detailed reports to creating videos on demand. Small wonder, then, that so many people worry they will soon be knocked out.(几乎每周,世界都在朝着通用人工智能的方向迈出新的一步。当前最强大的AI模型已能完成令人惊叹的任务——从撰写详尽报告到按需生成视频。难怪那么多人担心自己很快会被淘汰)”可知,文章开头让人们担忧的原因是AI可能很快让他们失业。故选A项。
根据第二段中“Klarna, a fintech firm, which had boasted about using the tech to automate customer service is now undertaking an about-turn. “There will always be a human if you want,” Sebastian Siemiatkowski, its boss, has recently said.(金融科技公司Klarna曾吹嘘使用这项技术实现客户服务自动化,如今却来了个一百八十度大转弯。“只要你愿意,总会有人工服务,”其老板Sebastian Siemiatkowski最近表示)”可知,Sebastian Siemiatkowski的话暗示了无论技术如何发展,人类的参与将始终占有一席之地。故选B项。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“We examine American data on employment by career, singling out workers that are believed to be vulnerable to AI. These are white-collar employees, including people in back-office support, financial operations, sales and much more besides. There is a similar pattern here: we find no evidence of an AI hit. Quite the opposite: over the past year the share of employment in white-collar work has risen very slightly.(我们研究了美国按职业分类的就业数据,找出了被认为容易受到人工智能影响的工人。这些是白领员工,包括后台支持、金融业务、销售等人员。这里也有类似的模式:我们没有发现人工智能对就业造成冲击的证据。恰恰相反:过去一年,白领工作的就业比例略有上升)”以及第四段“According to the relevant data, American unemployment remains low, at 4.2%. wage growth is still reasonably strong, which is difficult to agree with the notion that AI is causing demand for labour to fall. Trends outside America point in a similar direction. Earnings growth in much of the rich world, including Britain, the euro area and Japan, is strong.(根据相关数据,美国失业率仍然很低,为4.2%。工资增长仍然相当强劲,这与人工智能导致劳动力需求下降的观点很难一致。美国以外的趋势也指向类似的方向。包括英国、欧元区和日本在内的许多发达国家的收入增长都很强劲)”可知,第三段和第四段通过列举美国就业数据和相关专家的观点,来支持作者关于人工智能没有导致失业的观点。因此,第三、四段起到了支持作者观点的作用。故选B项。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。通读全文,结合第二段“official American data show the number of people employed in interpretation, translation and the like is 7% higher than a year ago. (美国官方数据显示,口译、笔译等行业的就业人数比一年前增加了7%)”、第三段“over the past year the share of employment in white-collar work has risen very slightly. (过去一年,白领工作的就业份额略有上升)”以及最后一段“AI may simply help workers do their jobs faster, rather than making them fired. (AI可能只是帮助员工更快地完成工作,而不是让他们被解雇)”可知,作者通过数据和分析认为,目前AI并未夺走人类的工作。故选D项。

A new memoir by Chloe Dalton has leapt off bookshelves on both sides of the Atlantic. It brings together two conventional story types. One is “what I learned from wild animals”: in Ms Dalton’s case, a hare. The other is “career woman finds love, joy and wonder”. True, these usually arrive in the form of an attractive human male or female, but for Ms Dalton they come contained in a four-legged, long-eared little package.
During the pandemic, as Ms Dalton finds herself adjusting to lockdown at her weekend country home. One day she hears a dog barking, investigates and finds a palm-size baby hare lying on the grass strip between two tyre tracks. She leaves on a walk, but when she returns, the hare is still there. Buzzards (秃鹫) circle above; vehicles on the road come and go; the dog still barks over there. So Ms Dalton takes the animal home and lays it down to sleep in a grass-lined shoebox.
She learns to care for it. And she grows increasingly fond of the animal but admits,“I reduced my growing attachment to it. I had a sense that I’d be judged as unserious and over emotional, as if I had been swept away by a childish enthusiasm. ” But heart defeats head. Before long she is structuring her days and even her paths around her house to please and avoid disturbing the hare, for which she leaves the garden door open. Any new lover or parent recognizes that feeling.
The memoir is really a hit. Till now, it has sold 60,000 copies in its hardback edition in the UK. Ms Dalton is an elegant writer and sharp-eyed observer. Her hare’s mouth is“a tiny sooty line... curved down at both corners as if she were already slightly disappointed by life. ” A house full of hares smells“faintly like digestive biscuits”. Readers underlining memorable sentences risk running out of ink. Besides, the book’s message is not that love is nice but that paying attention can be spread. Caring for the hare opens Ms Dalton’s eyes to the natural world. Urban writers such as Ms Dalton need reminding that“nature” is not a pleasant place to go on weekends to get away from the city. It is everything and everywhere. Readers need reminding of that, too.
12. What is the memoir written by Chloe Dalton?
A. A classic romance story. B. A criticism of modern urban life.
C. A scientific report on wild animals. D. A creative narrative of old themes.
13. Why did Chloe Dalton decide to take the baby hare home?
A. She intended to turn it into a domestic pet.
B. She wanted to write a memoir about a hare.
C. She was worried about its safety in the wild.
D. She needed a companion during the lockdown.
14. What does “that feeling” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. The deep understanding between lovers.
B. The uncontrollable affection for the beloved.
C. The childlike enthusiasm placed into the event.
D. The remarkable achievement of raising the child.
15. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. The intention of writing the book. B. The writing style the author employed.
C. The significance of the book to literature. D. The reasons why the book is so appealing.
D 13. C 14. B 15. D

根据第一段中“It brings together two conventional story types. One is “what I learned from wild animals”: in Ms Dalton’s case, a hare. The other is “career woman finds love, joy and wonder”.(它融合了两种传统的故事类型。一种是“我从野生动物身上学到的东西”:在道尔顿女士的例子中,是一只野兔。另一种是“职业女性找到了爱情、快乐和奇迹”)”可知,Chloe Dalton的回忆录融合了两种传统故事类型,是对旧主题的创新叙述。故选D。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“Buzzards (秃鹫) circle above; vehicles on the road come and go; the dog still barks over there. So Ms Dalton takes the animal home and lays it down to sleep in a grass-lined shoebox.(秃鹫在上空盘旋;路上的车辆来来往往;那边的狗还在叫。于是,道尔顿女士把这只动物带回家,把它放在一个铺着草垫的鞋盒里睡觉)”可知,Chloe Dalton担心小野兔在野外的安全,所以把它带回了家。故选C。
【14题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段中“Before long she is structuring her days and even her paths around her house to please and avoid disturbing the hare, for which she leaves the garden door open.(不久,她开始调整自己的作息,甚至规划在屋内行走的路线,以取悦并避免打扰野兔,为此,她总是让花园的门敞开着)”可知,Chloe Dalton调整自己的日常安排,甚至改变在房子周围的路线,以取悦并避免打扰野兔,还为它开着花园门,由此可知“that feeling”指的是对所爱之人无法控制的喜爱之情。
根据最后一段中“The memoir is really a hit. Besides, the book’s message is not that love is nice but that paying attention can be spread.(这本回忆录真的很受欢迎。
Even if you don’t worry that artificial intelligence will destroy the human race, you might worry that its alarming appetite for electricity will destroy the environment — asking Chat GPT a question means using ten times more energy than an old-fashioned approach. With new data centers planned, further growth in energy consumption seems unavoidable. ____16____ In fact, AI may be less energy-hungry than many people assume. Better still, AI can help decarbonize the industries that have proved hardest to clean up.
Consider AI’s appetite for energy first. The International Energy Agency (IEA) expects that electricity consumption by data centres could be three times as much in the next five years. ____17____ Data centres today only account for about 1.5% of the world’s electricity consumption — and the vast majority of that is due to streaming, social media and online shopping, not AI.
____18____ AI stands out in identifying complex patterns, processing giant data sets and boosting systems, all of which can help cut emissions sharply. AI is already helping improve the efficiency of electrical grids, cut fuel use in shipping and spot otherwise invisible leaks of methane, a greenhouse gas.
The task for policymakers and industry bosses is to maximize such benefits while minimizing the climate impacts. The most elegant solution would be for governments to set a proper price on carbon and leave the market to do its work. ____19____
The first is greater transparency (透明). From August 2026 the EU will require some AI developers to report their energy use in detail. A second is to rethink how data centres operate. The IEA notes that being able to shift workloads between different data centres at different times could reduce stress and help balance energy grids. Third, tech firms should hold themselves to their own environmental promises. ____20____ Doubling down on some approaches would help transform AI from climate suspect to climate hero.
A. But the concern is misplaced.
B. That approach should be copied elsewhere.
C. Even if energy usage rises, though, the base is still low.
D. For instance, Microsoft aims to become “carbon negative” by 2030.
E. Microsoft’s greenhouse-gas emissions are up by almost 30% since 2020.
F. Moreover, some of AI’s electricity use will help with greening the economy.
G. But because it remains a distant dream, focusing on other measures is more realistic.
A 17. C 18. F 19. G 20. D
上文“With new data centers planned, further growth in energy consumption seems unavoidable.(随着新的数据中心的规划,能源消耗的进一步增长似乎是不可避免的)”表达了对人工智能能源消耗增长的担忧。下文“In fact, AI may be less energy-hungry than many people assume.(事实上,人工智能的能源消耗可能没有许多人想象的那么高)”说明这种担忧是不恰当的。 故选A。
上文“The international Energy Agency (IEA) expects that electricity consumption by data centres could be three times as much in the next five years.(国际能源署(IEA)预计,未来五年数据中心的电力消耗可能会增加两倍)”说明人们对数据中心耗能增长的担忧。 C选项中的“energy usage rises”与上文中的“electricity consumption could be three times as much”相呼应。故选C。
下文“AI stands out in identifying complex patterns, processing giant data sets and boosting systems, all of which can help cut emissions sharply.(人工智能在识别复杂模式、处理海量数据集和提升系统方面表现突出,所有这些都能大幅减少排放)”说明AI在减排、环保方面的积极作用。 F选项中的“help with greening the economy”与下文中AI助力减排、推动环保的内容相呼应。

Jake kicked a loose stone, dragging his feet behind his mom to the old community center. “Why waste my Saturday on this renovation (翻新) project?” he murmured. “Weeding and painting is boring.” His mom stopped, gesturing to an overgrown garden behind the center — twisting vines on a wall, soda cans in yellowed grass. “This used to be kids’ favorite spot,” she said softly. “Give it an hour. If you hate it, we’ll leave.”
The first hour was even worse than Jake had feared. He was in low spirits, pulling up stubborn weeds, his gloves getting caked in mud. He tuned out the other volunteers — mostly kids his age, chattering loudly as they dragged trash bags and laughed over inside jokes — trapped in annoyance alone.
Ms. Lopez, the project leader, gathered everyone. “We’re going to beautify that empty wall,” she announced, pointing to the weathered structure. “Who wants to paint it? Let your creativity shine!” Silence fell. Jake’s throat tightened; he’d loved sketching plants since childhood, filling notebooks with detailed flower and vine drawings. But he’d hidden his talent ever since his cousin teased his art as “girly”. He stared at his shoes, staying silent.
Just as Ms. Lopez was about to speak again a soft voice broke ice: “I... I’ll try. ” Jake looked up. It was Lina, the quiet girl from his math class who never spoke in groups. She stepped forward, hands trembling slightly. “I have some paintings I draw,” she said, pulling a notebook from her pocket. A couple of boys from the football team crowded over, craning their necks to look at the notebook. “That’s so babyish?” “Can you even draw straight? Looks like a little kid’s doodles (涂鸦). ” Hearing these words, Lina’s shoulders tensed, but she tightened her grip on the notebook and didn’t back down, her eyes still fixed on Ms. Lopez.
注意:
1. 续写的词数应为150左右;
Then Jake stood up, walking to Lina’s side and saying, “I’ll join you,”

At the sight of the half-finished work, other kids decided to join them.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Then Jake stood up, walking to Lina’s side and saying, “I’ll join you.” He ignored the surprised looks from others and took a brush from Ms. Lopez. Jake started to paint, his hands steady as he brought the vines he’d sketched in notebooks to life. Lina glanced at him, a small smile appearing on her face, and then continued with her own part. Their combined efforts gradually covered the dull wall with vibrant colors, attracting some curious glances.
At the sight of the half-finished work, other kids decided to join them. The football team boys who had mocked Lina earlier now eagerly asked for brushes, wanting to add their own touches. More and more kids gathered around, sharing ideas and working together. The once-empty wall was now a riot of colors and creativity, with everyone’s unique styles blending harmoniously. Jake looked at the transformed wall, a sense of pride and accomplishment filling his heart. This renovation project had turned out to be far from boring.

Various studies have shown that activities that target skills such as balance coordination, flexibility, creativity and memory work can improve Parkinson’s symptoms.
A Dancing: a Cure for Brain Diseases
B. Sarah Robichaud: an Outstanding Ballet Dancer
C. Dancing with Robichaud: Moving to a Better Life

Just as Ms. Lopez was about to speak again, a soft voice broke ice: “I... Lopez.
注意:
1. 续写的词数应为150左右;
Then Jake stood up, walking to Lina’s side and saying, “I’ll join you,”
